Lin Qing He transmigrated into the novel and became one of its cannon fodder. The novel’s background is non-viable-1960s, time of want to eat but nothing to eat and want to wear, nothing to wear. Although the lack of supplies and life was monotonous, this wasn’t what she was concerned about because she got a small personal interspatial space, which is stuffed with supplies, so temporarily no worries about basic needs.

What she is worried about, if she remembers correctly, her three so-called sons will become big villains in the future, and their upright and cold dad will end up in an indestructible end.

Lin Qing He looked at the three future villain sons, eldest who was only five years old, the second child was only three years old, and the third child was only one year old, and decided to give them half a big white bun first…

Slow slice of life. I love that it depicts a period of China in detail that I don't usually see. Translation is excellent!

Why do I feel so much agonizing pain in my heart? My heart hurts so much after reading this novel. There are very few novels that I can count in one hand that can truly make me feel very emotional and cry so much, full of tears as this novel. I really don't want to let go, really.... I really don't want to part ways with Mother Lin Qinghe, Father Zhou Qingbai, Brother Zhou Kai, Brother Zhou Xuan, Brother Zhou Guilai, Little Sister Zhou Mi and the others...

Maybe it's because... more>> I also yearn to have such a loving and caring family in reality as well. I really don't want it to end. If only I could live inside the novel forever... Mother Lin Qinghe and the Zhou Family truly soothe my broken self and give me hope on continuing to live on and become a better person. She enlightened and warmly guiding me as if she was my own mother giving guidance to her child and I'm honestly extremely grateful for it. I wonder what it feels like to have such a warm, caring, wonderful mother and family. I truly wonder what it feels to be love and lovingly embrace by her. For me, the ending truly pained me so much that it hurts deeply akin to a sharp knife piercing through my chest. It's a very very very beautiful yet sad bittersweet relief ending. I wish it could be continue forever... I'm also full of yearning to be embrace forever in such warmth and caring emotion of familial love. If this novel is a dream, then I wish I could stay inside this dream for eternity. I feel very cold, empty and lonely once the story reach its end. I just don't know why... Maybe... Maybe I'm just... sad... I guess... Thank you... Thank you for giving me such a warmth familial love, full of comfort and affection while I'm trying to escape away from my miserable dark reality.

I guess I would have to stop reading novels for a long while after this. I'm currently experiencing a very anguish book hangover. Maybe I might just read it again and again and again. <<less

This is a long slice of life story that I really enjoyed. Mostly because I'm from an Asian family who went through more or less the same thing. Knowing how hard my grandparents wouldve worked back then along with having multiple children for the sake of having more boys to help out... Truly a great story to read. Just to note, my paternal grandparents had 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls) while my maternal grandparents had 8 children (2 boys and 2 girls). The drama that occurs within families... more>> is A LOT. So yes, to those reviews that said FL interferes too much, it really do be like that.

It is a long story with a hardworking FL who strives to improves the conditions of her family alongside a dependable understanding ML who also works hard together. The three boys of theirs grows up along with the story and they have their own stories later on as well.

Basically the first few chapters is how FL raises her family during the 60s, in times of poverty. How she rises up and moves to the capital along with her family and how they slowly gain more property and become more well-to-do. Other subplots include familial relationships, some rotten characters trying to do bad things but end up suffering from them, some bad people turning over a new leaf, and romance between other side characters.

Reviews by charysa and meatshield are also comprehensive already about the story. Basically a great story to read so check it out when you have time. <<less

I am dropping this one because there is a lot of repetition after FL moves to the university and the story starts to focus on the side characters.

Reading it now feels like a chore.

... more>> Also, what ticks me is FL helping every f*king relative. I get she wants to grow the entire Zhou family but I don’t know where this drive comes from?

Cause our generation (in general) is very individualistic (like mainly focus on your partner and kids). So, I don’t know where she gets this drive/mentality to help every Zhou person.

I genuinely enjoyed the 60s when the story focused on the main characters (FL, ML & their kids) and their growth. FL wasn’t into anybody’s business (acting Mary Sue) and focused on making her life better.

I think I would’ve liked it better if the story focused more on their business expansion, the couple, their three kids and a little on the side characters.

Translation is good. Very informative about the Chinese reformation and 60s lifetstyle.

Finally, it’s not a bad read. But this extended family-Mary Sue drama that starts in 70s is not what I signed up for. <<less

Wait. I'm still having lingering feelings so although I have a lot to say, I can't really put it into words that much. I mean, I feel like it's a very long story despite the fact that it's only more than 700 chapters. I've read countless of stories, some even have more than 3, 000 chapters. But perhaps the reason why I found this story to be long is not because of its chapter but because of the content. From the beginning where Lin Qing He transmigrated and until now,... more>> I feel a little bit emotional. It's like I'm the one who watched the kids grow up and now, they have their own families. Especially the last few special chapters. The ending, despite being a happy and peaceful one made me cry. It's really a long road, and now I have reached the end. What a good story indeed. This is probably the best story among the stories with the setting of 60's, and the likes, that I've read. From romance, family relationships, etc. It's really great. This story also made me realized a lot of things such as the hardship of our parents before (my mother often told me how hard the life was in their era), also, how hard it was for my parents to support us, siblings. 10/10! <<less

What the hell happened to the OG story? Didn't she transmigrate to a novel she used to read? The OG ML and FL were nowhere to be found. Might as well just scratch the description and the OG backstory of the setting, since it's just the same as your usual. The MC and her sons have barely any screen time, it's all about the gossip from her neighbors, nephews and nieces. If there's any screen time at all, it's the same routine of cooking, eating and New Year.

Never in my life that I would actually moved by chinese novel like this. So moved that when I finally reach the last chapter, I actually shed tears especially when Lin Qing He said her last words to Qing Bai. Even when I'm writing this, I'm still quite teary.

I don't know, I'm 22 and never had a boyfriend much less children in my life but reading this makes me excited having my own family. Wishing to have a husband like Qingbai who's love gets stronger as time passed by. And... more>> those three sons are really cute and sensible.

I have read different kinds of novel with different genre, however after reading them and enjoyed them, I forget them after months. Unlike this novel who made me feel really happy and sad despite the happy ending because I dont really want to end it. This became my favorite of all time that I actually copied it to print so I can read it offline anytime I miss it.

AGAIN, MY FAVORITE NOVEL OF ALL TIME.

Maybe I could name my sons Da Wa, Er Wa and San Wa if I could birth in the future.

Spoiler
[collapse]

The first son (Da Wa) is really smart but the novel said that the second son (Er Wa) is the smartest.

The couple lived long and died at the age of 90. Lin Qing He left first, after settling their will, Qing Bai lay down with her. <<less

I really really love this story. I binged read the whole thing in 2-3 days. An amazing read. Love the character development. The growth of the sons is done really well. I love that she doesn't ab*se her power that much in the storyline. Great story all around. One of the best transmigration stories I've read. Super slow slice of life but, I was never ever bored once while reading.

Too awesome. Re-reading for a fourth time already. Even tried to read raws through translater. Good plot, good development, reasonable leads and what is the most important matter to me realistic actions of FL. It's like I would do the same if I was her. Many details of China from that age was know to me after I read this novel. It's really interesting when author is paying attention to such details. So 5 stars and good job!

This novel got me pretty emotional at the end of the story. Idk why I even shed tears.

At first when I found this novel, I did not want to read it because most of slice of life genre is boring af. And look at those chapters! 700+! Nope not going to read this. Then, after I did not have anything to read I decide to give this novel a try. And yea I'm s*upid af bc this novel never get me tired or bored. When I finish the last chapter,... more>> I reread it again from the start lololol.

for me, this is the best slice of life genre and ugh I just love it. The cannon fooder will get their role again, and not vanished just like that. They will have their ending, altho I really wish to read third bro lin got mentioned in the end of chapter bcs I love that soft hearted boi. Man, if I transmigrated into this story I will pursue thrid bro lin :)

Even tho I kinda did not like how the author changes old zhou at first, it's just pretty sudden change and it's weird, but luckily she will be back to her old self.

Okay, here why I got emotional.

It's because Zhou Gulai (MC youngest son) why? Basically bc I feel I was his mom lmao.

I watch (read) him grew up little by little, from when he's still a small chubby boi who wants a meat always shouting to MC "meat! Meat!" and then suddenly he become capable man owned a big business :) bish not lie, I felt that I was the one who raise him lololol 😌✌but I'm going to warn you, if you like the zhou kai or zhou xuan (MC eldest and second son) be prepared bc they will barely mention after 450+ or so chapters bc the eldest went to military and second went to college. <<less

I rarely get impressed by chinese novel, honestly. But somehow, this novel really left a great impression on me.

Let me give a simple introduction about this novel. This is not your regular wuxia novel, even though it is a chinese novel. This is also not your MC is OP and will get many harem members type of novel, even though it is a chinese novel. This is though a very wholesome, laid back, very close to reality, slice of life type novel.

Don't expect a huge fight of clan members. Don't... more>> expect 'you offend me, therefore I shall kill you' situations. Don't expect huge conflicts that will change the world or at least a region. You should only expect a wholesome, slow paced, full of love, simple day to day life of Lin Qing He, Zhou Qing Bai and their three smart, crafty, little lads.

I can't say it with words how much I love this novel, and I can't force you to love this like I do. But everything about this novel, the farming, the cooking, the family, all of them are wholesome and really just relaxing to read. Your emotions will always follow everything that happened in this novel and it will left a good impression on yourself.

I really did not expect to read this kind of novel, but I have no regrets whatsoever. I love this novel, and you should give it a try.

10/10 will not disappoint.

Edit (2/2/2021) : I read this novel to the very last chapter by MTL. Despite all the hardship and headache that I got from doing that, I can state that I have never enjoyed any other Chinese webnovel like I enjoyed this one.

Absolutely loved the ending, the parting is both warm and sad, just the perfect ending for this webnovel.

I don't really have anything more to add, this webnovel is by far the most wholesome webnovel I've ever read.

Thank you, translator for letting me know that there is a webnovel like this out there. I enjoyed the journey, and now it's time to look for another one. <<less

Advice: Once you read all the translated chapters, hit up the spoilers forum. This way, if you decide to MTL. You can better understand what's going on in the story.

I loved this story most when they were in the countryside and family interactions and food were the focus lol. I completely understand people's obsession with eating well when there's nothing else to do---thanks COVID-19. You could really feel the FL's care for her family, the ML's struggle to express his love and devotion to FL, and the growth of other... more>> characters. Even minor characters like 2nd Brother-in-law felt real and complex. That being said, it's a wonderful and well-paced story throughout 700 chapters. Many characters in the novel are very relatable. People who are annoying aren't necessarily villains---some get their comeuppance, some just continue living their lives, and some even change. I appreciated that a lot, actually.

The most fantastical character is the FL. I wondered how she had so much knowledge of different industries and developments, but I let that go to enjoy the story. I believed in her character because of how she seemed resigned to life at the very beginning of the novel---by nature, she's a survivor who makes the best of whatever her situation. The development of her immediate family and her investment in them was clearly conveyed and understandable. What I'm saying is, the characters' development is, surprisingly, believable in this "transmigrated into a novel" family-centered novel.

A truly satisfying slice of life piece. Don't read if you prefer assassins, magical doctors, highly talented and perfect OTP, nobles, or wicked face-slapping lol. Conflict in this story are not prolonged or dramatic because people have to live. <<less

I finished reading this novel using MTL and it was easy to read. I love it!

So far, this is one of the best slice of life I have read. It is my first time reading a novel wherein you watch the characters grows up year by year. Like your own child, from 1 year old (Sanwa) until they become successful, As in. It might be slow but I never got bored. I read it all the way.
    • This novel was full of character development. Not only the main characters but the side characters too. Full of hardworking people.
    • I like the MC's mind-your-own-business-attitude and the way she educate the children.
    • Full of warmth and cuteness. I envied the ML and MC's relationship. Sana all. This couple was too sticky up until the end.
Spoiler

To the point that they died in the same bed, holding hands, coz of old age. That was the last part, and the only part where I really cried for real. It was all over my head for a few days, I can't even read another novel properly. This might also be one of the reason for reading the novel again. Yes, I can't accept that they died. Although they live until they are ninety plus years old, why can't they live for a long time? Like in wuxia novel? Hahaha. Why does the author needs to include this part. Hate it, at the same time, love it. So beautiful.

    • All in all, a good novel. Worth Recommending!

  1. MTL: 3.5-4

(understandable, but names are very confusing as they are all nicknames, so you'd have to keep this in mind going forward as to not get confuse)

    Spoiler

Its a pretty chill, relaxing, simple slice of life, married life, raising kids, later, building business, etc.

The kids are so cute and lovable when they were just little imps around MC

MC and ML is not extremely OP. However, MC uses her knowledge of the present to elevate their lives (not super magical knowledge out of nothing that seems to make all problems disappear, though). It was more like, how to find a business to support the family, negotiate business, teach the kids, what to focus more on establishing business, investing on estates, relearning english, etc.

Her space, as time goes on slowly fades away in the background (I dont mean that its gone, just became rarely used or mentioned as it was no longer needed as much as the beginning), which was kinda good since its just a storage space basicallu.

MC and ML were very in line with their time. I mean, the decisions they made and how they acted was really how you would imagine it would be if you were them. And their decisions and reactions to certain situations matches their characteristics and their current state of mind. Flaws and all.

Relatives some are okay, some bearable, some are 'ugh'.

I have to be honest, that the glimpse of the life of the 3rd child at the near end chapter, idont quite like. Especially, because the 3rd son, is whom I like him the most at the start watching him the most, them seeing him ends up with a not so good kind of wife, plus the summary of his life, wife, his kids afterwards was meh. Im not sure if its MTLs fault but Ill check this out when alls done and completely translated.

I like the initial part of the novel, where the kids are just cute little kids. However, as it goes by its not getting more interesting, though this is still a good read without a doubt.

I like this novel enough to read it like 7/8 times (?) now.

Read if you are bored. It's very easy to follow. The plot is very basic but it was done well because I get invested with the characters. So invested.

Spoiler

Like San Ni and Second Brother In Law... I was so invested and the entire time I was just hoping for someone to give those two a break.

[collapse]

The characters have depth and the relationships are realistic. Just like how FL fell in love with the ML, I fell in love with the story and I couldn't put it down.

This is my second time reading this but actually this time only I persisted reading until the end. During my first read I really enjoyed the farming arc but it made me loose interest in the middle of the city arc. Not completing this novel had always been a regret of mine so this time I persisted and I'm glad that I did.

I really love the female lead in this novel. She's not the typical op Mary sue nor she is a pushover. I love the way she handles the... more>> relationships between her in-laws. But the thing that I love the most is her relationship with her sons. It's so endearing to see how she feed the cubs and motivates them to study and all. Their relationship was so pure and heart warming. One of the best I've ever read. Though the FL seems to only care about her and her family's happiness, she never hesitates to help people the good people around her.

Spoiler

like her sister-in-law and her family, third brother Lin, all the nieces and nephews. It made me so happy to read about father Zhou and mother Zhou enjoying their city life. But what I love the most is that her helping the second brother-in-law and that liu ni's child in the later chapters. It made me genuinely smile when old Zhou family and fl's third brother and Zhou Dong thriving because of the fl.

[collapse]

The cubs (sons)

I can't say how much I enjoyed the growth process of them from potential villains to the successful individuals they became later. Their interactions with their mom is heartwarming and realistic. All three of them have distinct personalities and they have a clear presence in the story. It made me want to tear up when they all grew up and started having their own families. That made me feel like an old mother watching their kids grow up.
Spoiler

I do love the daughter at the end but I think that she should have been born earlier in the farming arc so she could grow up with her brothers and save all that hassle of the ml.

[collapse]

I can't say that I hate the ml. He was supportive of the FL albeit feeling a little inferior at times. I love how he always trusted the FL but other than that there's nothing much to like about him.
Spoiler

I hate how he treats his sons and if the og FL was at fault for the sons becoming villains then I feel like he's also a major reason. Because he's indifferent to them. I don't whether it's due to that time or since the sons had grown up so he should act "tough" with his sons but to me it's pure indifference. It was quite good during the farming arc, though he did not interfere much with the kids education he at least had thoughts about their wellbeing and it seemed reasonable. But I hate it in the city arc. I don't know whether it's because of the sons have grown up and all but it infuriated me when he started accumulating all those properties for the unborn daughter saying that the sons doesn't need them and should suffer to earn. And boy don't get me started with his obsession of giving birth to a daughter. It was simply outrageous and though his doting towards his daughter was heartwarming it made me mad at how he treated his sons.

[collapse]

All in all this novel was a wonderful slice of life and I cried at the ending because it felt like parting away from people you've known for ages. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves transmigrating into the economic reformation era because this one is really one of the best out there. <<less
