Lin Qing He transmigrated into the novel and became one of its cannon fodder. The novel’s background is non-viable-1960s, time of want to eat but nothing to eat and want to wear, nothing to wear. Although the lack of supplies and life was monotonous, this wasn’t what she was concerned about because she got a small personal interspatial space, which is stuffed with supplies, so temporarily no worries about basic needs.

What she is worried about, if she remembers correctly, her three so-called sons will become big villains in the future, and their upright and cold dad will end up in an indestructible end.

Lin Qing He looked at the three future villain sons, eldest who was only five years old, the second child was only three years old, and the third child was only one year old, and decided to give them half a big white bun first…

It's a very good slice of life novel. I read it in mtl and I am in love with this novel. The story is very smooth and relaxing. Most of all I like MC's characters very much and the story process.

Overall it's very satisfying and I enjoyed it till the end.

This had a strong start but a very weak finish. It's a slice of life story but the story got so mundane and trifling. I couldn't stand the arc about the baby girl; Everytime she was brought up, I cringed.

Edit: I was bored and reread this. I just became infuriated & extremely disappointed at the hypocrisy of the MC.

  • It's actually disgusting that a transmigrator was pushing women to give birth when their careers/education were on the line, when they had different concerns and fears about their body, economic situation, etc.
  • MC was actually a very mediocre business person. All her businesses were hinged on nepotism. If the whole Ma family quit or betrayed her, her business would suffer.
  • Essentially, she wanted the power over her relatives without any risk of reproach, not even from her husband.
The writing is extremely repetitive and redundant (catch it? Lol). It's ridiculous that author spent 250 chapters copying and pasting the same routines over 7 years. The antagonists were all the same; loose women the MC disliked & she was proven right because they had horrible endings they "deserved". Sigh.

This is one of those unexpectedly good stories. Came in expecting a decent read about faceslapping but encountered something a looot more than that. The pace is relatively slow in the start but once you get past that you'll be in one heck of a read. One of the very few novels that made ne tear up.

+ family depiction with stern mom and dad who listens to hus wife is sooo good

+ ML is really well-written

+ awesome and detailed depiction of 60s and later decades. One can learn a lot

- time skips at the end. I wish those chapters were a bit more detailed <<less

Decent. This is less than a novel, more than a journal of sorts. There is nothing overly dramatic in this story. The MC had been given a space and knowledge, but these are just shortcuts to explain her determination to get wealthy. The author could have easily written the story without it, and one can sense the author had felt regret incorporating the fantastical aspects because the entire story is about the MC's near daily life. Nearly every chapter was about food or gossipy family incidents. Nothing as dramatic as... more>> world changing. What is interesting is that you can see the gradual changes during the three generations (her elders, herself and her children) in China's history during the 60s to the 90s. From scrounging basic necessities to get milk and meat, to buying electrical appliances, from bicycles to personal cars. It offers a window to the society of China in those decades. If this was adapted into live action, it would be one of those long-running day time family drama series. <<less

rough start. great middle. so-so later chapters.

rough start:

was not into the info-dumping I received from the author. it was just too much! wished the author revealed the original plot gradually. it almost made me stop reading.

... more>> great middle:

if you enjoy slice of life, you'll enjoy this one. it really felt like I was reafing someone's diary. though one might say that it's filled will too much filler chapters but that's kind of what slice of life is. a genre riddled with fillers. and to me, it's only effective if you don't add to much conflict. because irl you aren't always drowning with problems after another which is a common mistake with cnovels with slice of life as it's tagged genre. fields of gold rubbed my the wrong way with the author's lack of restraint in wanting to make tge MC pitiful. this novel, knew that sprinkling conflict moderately rather than liberally is a better way to go.

but while the story was great fun in the middle, the later chapters around chapter 500 up just kind bored me. I just skimmed through the leads scenes, especially the male lead. the younglings were more interesting tbh.

now unto the characters! I have a lot to say about them.

    • the female lead lqh, was initially a fun character but as she grew older I can truly see author's own irl opinions bleed through her. h*mophobia, slut-shaming heavy dislike for shy introverts and colorism.
    • the male lead zqb, was just kinda there? he kinda only thinks with his d*ck and just lets the FL do the heavy lifting when it came to family matters. I felt indifferent to him throughout the story until 500+ chapters. thoughtat one point that he would get character development but whoops! author decides no!
Spoiler

at one point when FL reached

late thirties, he realized that ge doesn't want his wife to suffer and decides to let go of getting her preggers. naive little me found that cute! but damn, author decided forget that sweet character development and let's have a priest tell them their future daughter and make FL loose her job that she had been working so hard from the very beginning to get. she's a career oriented woman. FL was literally excited to finally work in an office. she waited for more than a decade! ugh... no one cares bc baby! that's what a woman is worth for

baby!

disliked him so much once he had a daughter. he actually thinks his sons were worthless now. no author, that isn't a win for feminism.

[collapse]

    • hated mother zhou, and the author wants us to like her. nope. this naggy, miser of a lady just annoyed me. I wouldn't mind if she was a miser. it's understandable. grew up poor, lived poorly for so long but it's her hypocrisy that just made me want to shake her. also, she just won't shut up about money. it's not even her money but she just won't shut up about it.
Spoiler

the lady hates the fact that FL gave something to her brother but expects FL to give them to her side of the family. lady shut the f*ck up. you naggy crumbled leaf.

[collapse]

    • so many women antagonists but none of them got a redemption arc. I wouldn't bat an eye but the nephew ex-convict who beaten a man to insanity gets a redemption arc. but none of these female antagonists can repent to their actions? just say you hate women author.
  • the sons, I hate the face that they are more littler scenes than the other side characters. they should be the heart of the story. only the eldest son got to see his romance progress. the second son's gf we only got to see after they ended up together. the youngest (my favorite) we got it on the epilogue! I don't give a f*ck about nephew #100 going to the capital and marrying niece in law #100, give me more interactions with the three boys damn.
would I recommend this? yes, if you like slice of life since it is one of the better ones. but I say that with hestation bc by 500, I kinda got tired of the main leads. which is not a thing you want a romance book feel.

would I ever read this again? initially I thought that yes, I would but once I have gotten more time to soak in the story in my head more, I don't think i'll read this again.

reasons?

  • the intro is too boring.
  • the leads are just less interesting
  • my favorite boy sanwa, the very reason I carried on reading this novel, barely have scenes.
  • the story keeps repeating scenes over and over again. while that is true to life, hence it's slice of life but the author doesn't really explore more interesting aspects of the time period. MC basically just cooks, f cks the ml, cooks, goes to the black market, cooks, f

    cks the ml, cooks.

A very laid-back and relaxing novel. It was literally about MC's everyday life from when she was transmigrating until she died of an old age, for example: what she cooked today, how she educated her children, her interaction with ML, etc. There's no drama between MC and ML. They almost instantly hit it off since ML coming back from the military. If there was any conflict, it was usually between MC and other people (many times, it was with her own family member).

MC's personality was very refreshing. She wasn't overly... more>> kind; sometimes she could be strong-headed and arrogant if it was a matter of principle. She was very indifferent with other people's opinions and for those people that she didn't like, she simply ignored them. On the contrary of MC, ML's personality was a bit boring. But at least he tried so hard to be better because he knew that if not for the fact that he was already MC's husband, he wasn't worthy of her.

In my opinion, MC's sons stood out more than ML. The three of them had a different temperament and personality but they were very successful in their life (Da Wa chose a military path, Er Wa chose to be a politician, and San Wa chose to inherit MC and ML's business empire).

The ending was also very satisfying although for San Wa's part, the author seemed to rush it a bit. Almost everyone got their happy ending and those who deserved a retribution, got their retribution (apart from those who repented). <<less

I doubt I'll reread this within a year or two, but it's for sure worth reading once.

I can easily see why this is pretty highly rated. Not much to complain about, and it's pretty entertaining for a slice of life type story.

... more>> Easy to get hooked. Some really great character development. You get to watch them grow as a couple, and watch the kids grow up and start their own families.

Really good character growth for some characters, you'll hate them, but then you can see how they can get educated by life and turn around and be good people. Usually with web novels, once someone does something bad, it's death or suffering forever, it's nice that some people are offered a chance at redemption (after appropriate punishment), and take that opportunity to not be total bags of shit.

Honestly, once the main characters hit my parents age, I got a bit of existential dread regarding how fast time passes, and couldn't bring myself to finish on first read.

Spoiler

Last extra kills off main couple in their 90s.

[collapse]

Spoiler about disclosing transmigration:

Spoiler

She took like 182 chapters to loop her husband in on her transmigration. Felt pretty long, but they had to get a solid relationship before I guess.

[collapse]

Spoiler about future kids?

  • The yes/no do they have one or not
    • Spoiler

A daughter late into the story.

      [collapse]
  • The details
    • Spoiler

She transmigrated after the original host had already gotten herself fixed. Because it's like a 1:10000 chance of failure, they don't get their daughter until she's in her late 30s. A good amount of chapters surrounding this, we get set up for it twice and only on third time is it actually legit.

I enjoyed the story very much. I've been looking for a stable slice of life novel. Although some details are repetitive like the daily patterns in life (their meals, routines, etc.) I find it relaxing to read. There's not much stimulating drama in my opinion. If anything, I find the mother in law annoying for always nagging about money but overall it's not really the kind that will turn into dislike and hate.

I don't want to say too much because I might spoil but I think this is a good... more>> read.

Don't read this if you're expecting a super sticky relationship between mother and children. They indeed have good relationship and I must say, they were properly raised and cultivated, however the way it was written in the novel is simple and not much of those dramatic and emotional mother-son bond.

If you're only looking for something to pass time, not too dramatic, no exaggerated face slapping or revenge story, then go ahead. <<less

I rarely like slice of life genre in novel because I easily get bored but surprisingly, the story is very interesting. Like all novel, there are also some character that is forgotten and not again being mention such as Su Cheng and his brother. I also wanna know about those two brothers especially that both brothers grow up in MC care. There is also a character that annoys me which is the HUSBAND! Tbh, I understand that in that era, women who don’t have a husband are easily being picked... more>> on but honestly I just don’t see the husband worth in this novel except for the pa* pa* pa* moment with MC 😅 <<less

While I did enjoy the story thoroughly, I would agree to those that state that the cannonfodders/villains are hopeless and have no character development. But then again, while I do know that there are real life people with such kind of mindsets, living or already gone, I think the conflicts just became repetitive at some point.

On the other hand, I did love the FL's character, albeit not agreeing to some of her opinions. Still, it was entertaining.

It's an enjoyable wish fulfillment novel of a woman who can do anything she wants because she's the MC including starting successful businesses one after another with almost no effort.

It goes on for too long and the writing is pretty dry which can make it emotionally flat at times but it's worth a read (though maybe not for the whole thing).

I love this novel a lot! The MC is a tiny bit op but overall, she's fun to watch grow. It's also nice that she doesn't just care for her main family, she benefits a lot of people around her. Though she's no nonsense and says that she's selfish, I found her to be a pretty great person.

Her relationship with the ML and their kids is really good, this is the first time I've read such believable kids, they really act their age and are all cute. I like that... more>> we get to see them grow up and I'm looking forward to seeing how this novel ends, I have a feeling it's going to be very satisfying! <<less

Finished it? Yep all 700 and 1 chapters of it.

The transmigrated MC, with children to feed and a husband to tame, also lotsa in laws to manage and drill lol It went all the way to MC son's and all the nephews and nieces. This one is in the 60s tho, and since it involves China 60s culture, I dont understand few bits, but I'll make it do and push through.

I can only say it was like reading a copy paste plot being repeated over and over. I would only... more>> remember and be amazed for the early half, the later half is not that necessary as the important part of the story, that is her husband love, her children's well being, all the problematic in laws, her families, and the villagers has been resolved and done nicely. Really, this story could stop without going into the 70s up - in so many hundreds chapters. If you stop at where they're going to enter the university life, it's doable. In fact, I'd suggest you to stop at that point, coz it's just a jungle of repetition after that but with the younger generation but not her children story mainly instead was her nephews and nieces. Some things from MC's ownself is ridiculous like how no one being suspicious of someone coming and going selling stuff there. I love how the wife and husband reltionship grows, how their children behave, the wife and husband did good with the children education and teaching, and how they deal with in laws and parents and all that.

One scene that really captured my heart and I will alw remember is the scene with MC and one of her unfortunate niece. The eldest daughter of ML's second brother, was alw treated poorly by her mother to work all the jobs in the house, and thus she wanted to escape from the village and away from her family or precisely her mother and siblings. She searched for herself a man outside the village, and when she married, MC and ML asked her abt it, since she was sure abt it, MC and ML gave her good dowry. A while back, they heard how her body was too weak to conceive child and alw go to the hospital to check. While her husband was older, poor but he was nice to her. When MC and ML went to visit her, the moment the niece saw her, came face to face, this niece was crying silently, seeing her like that, but still maintained the calm attitude, MC and ML were distressed but relieved. In the whole world, the niece knew only her fourth uncle and aunt cared for her well being. This scene really captured my heart.

I was not satisfied that they didnt do any face slapping or divorce the second sister in law. But when it happened, it's alr the modern age, not ancient era where reputation is everything. So yeah, it was a good reading. I'd read again, but only up to them out of the village coz after we're out of the 60s, the tone of the novel has changed and truthfully it was a repetitive cycle of nephews and nieces match making processes, and just a mix of everything. <<less

Can’t believe I found this novel out only recently. Such a good slice of life themed novel. I wouldn’t mind reading more fillers regarding the life of the 3rd generation of the fourth’s family as the ‘2nd generation’ young masters and mistress. Or maybe a filler regarding alternate story where the MC transmigrate to the original story line where everyone’s life wasn’t as good but was somewhat patched up by her. Would’ve been a good one. Really love this novel nonetheless.

I have to say this novel is so good for those who wants a slow pace plot and realistic background.

MC is kinda a laid back character with no big ambition and just to live well with the 3 kids. What make it interesting is the conflict between MC and ML relatives is realistic and although MC has powerful golden finger (her dimention space to store things) but she also help the relative around her to improve their life with realistic ways like giving better education, advice, connection or lend money.

Although... more>> it has a slow romance. In the later part, ML and MC relationship is so cute, possessive but also understanding
