The villager who was so poor that he couldn’t afford a bride price, did not learn to do anything, and was idle, actually got a beautiful and rich wife from the city!

The beautiful and rich Bai (white) Fu (rich) Mei (beautiful), Zhao Lanxiang was reborn, and the first thing she did when she woke up was to find her husband in a hurry.

In their last life, they met each other in their later years, he had suffered through the ups and downs in life, and she was scarred. They warmed and healed each other in their remaining years.

In this life, she decided to give this man a good beginning, help him avoid the hidden arrows, and walk onto the bright road!

However… who could tell her why her steady, refined husband is actually such a cold, fierce, and th**ny bully as a young man?

The rough man impatiently pressed the Bai Fumei into the cornfield, patted her tender face, and said fiercely: “You know, you can’t run away if you mess with me again.”

Lovely story. I feel bad for her ex though.. Although not that much.

I don’t like the part after the ML and FL get married. It takes a bit too long and quite boring. It wrapped up the story well though.. Could be shorter.

I like Jiang Li in both life times. She is a good princess character.

Highly recommended.

I often don't much like the kind of drama that comes with historical farming life stories, but this is just lovely, and on top of that extremely educational about Chinese life during the Cultural Revolution. Also, the FL enjoys occasionally squeezing ML's bu*t while walking past and I support that.

Good read, lots of food p*rn—you'll get very hungry while reading

Most of the novel is purely 5 star material, I just got really pissed off at one part of the plot

Spoiler

MC decides to leave ML for like 4 years to "protect" him from other guy who loves her—he threatened to make trouble for ML but she could have atleast said a word to ML instead of asking him to pick a ton of flowers for her and dipping

[collapse]

luckily that was resolved a few chapters later but I was crying angry tears because I was so upset/irritated lmao

It's the type of annoying cliche I didn't think this author would pull but I guess they wanted a dramatic climax and angst before the resolution

then I skimmed some of the resolution because it was boring oof

the twist in the extras was interesting though ^^

still very much recommended reading this! <<less

Everything is okay until chapter 120.

Spoiler

I never like to write a bad review. I think this is my first time writing one for a novel. Everything was okay until ex husband come and 'threatened' the MC with ML and then she decided to 'sacrifice' herself then and there and leave ML to go with ex-husband. What the?!! What was your purpose to find ML at the beginning, isn't it to live with him happily ever after. Why suddenly turn into sacrificing self for the world kind of story. Can't you hold your principle? Acting like this I almost think that MC wants to go back with her ex-husband and acting like a victim. All the things that can be solved by communicating and trust each other but no, she decided to be a martyr. Really if I was the ML, no need to chase, lots of fish in the sea. If it's not 17 chapter before the end, I would have stop reading and be done with it. This kind of vibe makes me hesitate to read BG story. At the end, didn't manage to finish this

Beautiful story. The fact that readers couldn't hate the "villain" says a lot about the author and the story. Loved both FL and ML. Both knew what they wanted and went for it like crazy, and the hardships they encountered were so relatable because they weren't OP. Excellent world-building; this was a good introduction to China in the 70s and 80s.

The MC in this experienced a very painful first marriage followed by a truly full filling and blissful second marriage. So when she woke up one day to find she’d travelled to her youth, why wouldnt she try to improve the early sad years both she and her second husband experienced?

This story has very strong characterization for all the main and secondary character. And it has really grounded world building. The pragmatic approach our MC makes to improving both their lives was interesting. The ML is believable and has wonderful... more>> development. His character, his situation in his village, the truth of the tragedy that befell him in the first life, and his family were mesmerizing.

Spoiler

The fact this is all a self fulfilling time loop was both really cool and also made me a little sad. Our MC experienced two complete lives. Our ML experienced one complete life and than when he time looped he skipped a good 10 years. Felt like their was a version of him who never got to know happiness. That in no way diminished from how lovely this story was.

This is one of the most realistic romance novel I've ever read. Their sufferings, success, hear break everything coveys raw emotions. Every character has something to contribute to the story line. It made me laugh, cry, anxious, sad. This is a gem don't miss it or procrastinate it for silly reasons. Thanks to the author and translator for this great work.

".. For better, for worse, in sickness and in health, in joys and in sorrows, untill death do you apart.. "

I believe these vows beautifully capture the story. It is very very heartwarming and sweet, but that's not all, it has its serious moments as well which fills you up with bittersweet feelings. I always love stories that have a circular structure and ends up at a perfect circle. And this is one of those, so it's just perfect and the ending is beautifully written.

I like how it's not one... more>> of those typical rebirth stories where there's lots of face slapping and redemption, it's rather slow and gentle like the serene countryside.

Spoiler

I love how the s*um ex here is not given a chance, it's not that he's irredeemable but if the FL after her first life gave him another chance I'd be questioning her sanity and drop this.

[collapse]

On this note, I must say how both the ML and FL are absolutely loveable characters, they are people who when loved by someone will love them back and dig out their hearts to give it to their loved person. The FL after her rebirth cares more about helping the ML out of his precarious situation first and then think about romance, she does everything in her own capabilities to help her 'old man' and his family in order to establish their own foothold. Similarly, I adore the ML and how sweet and supportive he is about the FL and how he trusts her with his everything (We need more MLs like him now).

In all, the story progresses in a very poignant way, as we come to know more about people and love the characters, even those whom we might have disliked earlier.

I did shed quite a few tears reading the final epilogue but that's because after watching their lives unfold, it's heart wrenching yet quite touching to get a look into what happened previously.

There's not much to write about this, but if you're in need of a break and would like to read some gentle and healing story that unfolds very maturely then do read this.

Words of caution - As other reviewers wrote, do not read this novel on a hungry stomach, it's just torturing yourself. You've been warned. <<less

Nice storyline... it's actually good for readers who want to have a calm and peaceful read especially if they haven't found any other books recently and they are stocking some updates on some books thus I recommend this.

I have mtl the remaining chapters and what's good about it is, you won't have a hard time understanding the mtl version.

A very interesting rebirth story set in the 70s. It covers how life was back in China during this period of great change, while unfolding a sweet story of love and overcoming difficulty together. I loved the main characters and their interactions. Even the side characters are interesting and well-written. It was very fun to read of ZLX's (FL) surprise and fascination at how different HSB (ML) was now that he's younger and to watch how he developed into the person she remembered.

I MTLed the rest of the book and... more>> I recommend you read to the end (the very last extra at the very least). Extremely heart-warming and I shed plenty of tears. It's also one of the more interesting takes on the rebirth trope. The story takes the idea of love to another level. <<less

I like slow burn romances. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the senseless plot twist (right near the end) that didn’t really do a lot for the story overall. Honestly thought that if author created another obstacle for them (anything else but THAT), then I wouldn’t be disappointed because the plot was tight before that twist.

Its just pure love between them, through thick and thin, rich or poor.

Each others future lies in each others past.

MC's 2nd life was in ML's 1st life while ML's 2nd life was in MC's 1st. So cool.

The ex husband, no matter how I look at it. Is a big freakin s*umbag.

In their 1st life he took MC for granted because she loved him so so much. All kinds of pain was experience by MC its just heartbreaking. But still guilt trip MC while their divorce is ongoing and at the end of the divorce too.

In their rebirth aka 2nd life of MC amd Ex Husband (1st Life of ML) he had the guts to look for MC and made MC leave ML for 3 yrs. He just pisses me off that I really want to punch him in the face.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The ending 😭🎉 how bitter sweet but beautiful. It truly came full circle in the end and I have to admit that this is one of the most satisfying ending I've read in a long time.

The novel in and of itself very feel-good and calm. The progression is slow, which sometimes turns to stagnant and is why I removed a star. However the romance is believable and feels natural. In a way the stagnant feeling is actually very realistic for a slice of life story taking place majorily in the... more>> countryside.

I don't understand why ppl complain about side character not being defined enough. I felt the were very unique and had their own characteristics to set them apart. I just struggled with their names being very similarly spelled. Once they were described or something happened I could quickly remember who was who.

Another reason for the 4 starts and not 5 is the translations. It became more mtl after like chapter 50-70 somewhere but its still readable, just a bit of a pain to correct things mid-reading.

Lovely story, fantastic ending. Honestly did not see it coming. <<less

For a slice of life novel, it falls quite flat. It was simply not gripping enough due to the fact that the characters aside from MC and ML are quite one-dimensional. I found their characters lacking in depth and they are mostly glossed over. There were twists and turns that should’ve evoked strong emotions but I couldn’t help but feel detached from it all as a reader. The story was overall good in the beginning until the college entrance examination arc but falls apart especially towards the end. While it... more>> is an okay read to pass the time, it is quite ineffective in immersing the reader within the forgettable story. <<less

Strong start but really weak finish.

The MC is a regressor who returns to her teenage years and decides to look for the man she married late in life, the ML. This means giving up a cushy life and heading to the country. Stubborn but clever, she arranges to live in the ML's home and sells things on the black market for extra money.

The ML is the son of a "landlord" family and is treated like crap by the rest of the villagers (even accusing him of r*pe) but he is... more>> a strong and hardworking individual. He's resistant to the MC at first but quickly warms up to her even if he doesn't think he's worthy of her. So he focuses on gaining money so that he can be rich and propose to her.

We join the story as the MC decides to go to the country and be with the ML. It's a fairly standard "living in the country in the 70s" story but there really isn't anyone scheming against the MC. They do go gung ho in selling things on the down low and there are really only 2 events that are problematic for the couple. One of which has no explanation for how it was solved.

Spoiler

The first is the former student of the ML's "teacher". This guy is a rapist who targeted one village girl and the ML's older sister (as well as students when he went to be an assistant professor) as well as stole funds and blamed it on the ML's teacher. He attempts to divert attention from himself to the ML by revealing the pig farm the ML was running during the time this was considered bad. Between the witnesses (and victims) of his various r*pes, proof that he stole the money (and then tried to frame someone else twice for it), and the involvement of the MC's ex from the previous life, he is sentenced to death.

The other is the MC's ex from her previous life. He is also a regressor and remembers the life he had with the MC. He desperately wants to renew his romance with her and make up to her about what happened (such as the miscarriage of their two children) but the MC has moved on. So he forces her to leave the ML but in the end, she still doesn't open her heart to him and they go their separate ways. Or at least I'm assuming because once the MC and ML reunite, he is only briefly mentioned in passing with no closure on that arc at all. I know that this was done so the ML can become a powerful businessman but it was still weird.

[collapse]

Otherwise, it's a weird kind of slice of life about how they sell stuff on the black market and raise pigs to slaughter and typical 70s stuff. We do get to see the ML's family get a happy ending, even his grandma gets her dreams come true.

Spoiler

Despite the fact that this woman has been constantly described as being confined to a bed for most of the story, she gets a wheelchair and eventually becomes a math/science professor at university. They even describe her hair as 'thinning' to indicate she's getting older and weaker but she's given a paragraph about how she is now a professor.

[collapse]

There are way better 70s stories to read. <<less

Overall, other than the decision MC made at the end, everything flows naturally. ML & MC relationship is so sweet and very supportive of each other. I really love them together, a contrast to the usual cold faced ML which in this novel is actually the ex-husband. Oh do I have a lot to say about him.

Spoiler

I admit that he is not the worst s*um in the world or anything like that, but no matter the reason or upbringing, I just feel like it's unrealistic for him to say that he is in love with MC.

For 16 years, he said that he didn't love her but there is familial affection, but for me, this is wrong. He just didn't pay didn't give a sh*t, only after MC become depressed then he the missing part. If MC keeps acting like everything is fine, he will still treat her like shit. In the end, it's all about him, so I disagree about him getting a third chance or about him not at fault. Clearly it's obvious that he didn't even treat her decently for 16 years, so he better stay away from MC or anyone for that matter if that's how he's like.

[collapse]

Anyway, read this story to see the MC and ML's devotion towards each other. They're so sweet and considerate of each other, the little stuff they do for each other is just so thoughtful, it warms my heart. <<less
