Typical xianhua cultivator with really unfair start getting plot armor and major power boosts that sometimes make sense and sometimes don't.
Spoiler

MC starts with 10 spirit eggs that he somehow went his whole life without mentioning to anybody. Putting aside whether or not a kid could successfully keep such a secret, why would he not at least tell his mother? It is pretty clear that he has always trusted her, even though their relationship wasn't as close before he lost his first spirit beast. Then after that particular grudge is settled the MC suddenly gets rings on his arms, which is explained as an after-effect of the family illness. The problem is that a) that illness has been a huge deal for the last 50 chapters or so without ever mentioning the rings, and b) the MC just suddenly gets the rings (technically one per day, but still). This then becomes a huge deal. Throw in the weirdly devoted love interest with the ridiculously useful and unique powers and it is pretty clear that the author doesn't see any reason to hold back on the plot armor and power ups.

Putting aside the issues with the MC's OPness, the story itself is pretty cliche and dull. I took a break for 2 weeks because I legitimately wanted to see the MC kill the starting antagonist and was worried that the author would drag it out by using the new area.
Spoiler

For those with similar concerns, the MC kills him within the first 200 chapters.

When I decided to read it again, I legitimately needed to take time to remember what the story even was. If it wasn't in my reading list, I probably would have completely forgotten it. The MC is just that forgettable and the story is just that cliched. Also nobody really has a personality and there are no interesting side characters. Everybody is either an enemy to be beaten or a powerful backer. Kind of sad to say, but the MC has no friends at the start because of his tragic backstory, and everybody he meets hates him except for the love interest who immediately falls in love with him and whichever adult he needs to be his backer for a particular area. So it's just him and his pets. Literally everybody else his age is his enemy or a random NPC.

Having finished my massive dump on this story, I would like to say that I don't feel this is particularly terrible. It has a lot of action. It's just that this is a forgettable and average story in a genre that has a ton of stories worth reading. If you just want an action-packed story in this genre with a lot of chapters to read, then this is good enough. I don't know why you'd want that but it's a good way to kill time while waiting I guess. There is some tragedy which is rather sad but it doesn't really appear except when there is some particular relevance to a fight or training montage. A solid 3-star action story with battle pets.

Entertaining at first, but you'll soon realize it follows the same template as most Chinese cultivation novels. There's an endless line of arrogant a-holes to slapdown at every stage of cultivation, and there's always a "next level" of cultivation, and there's always the "next area" of stronger people who miraculously have left the weaker areas alone... until the protagonist started leveling up. The logic of all of it just falls apart after repeating the same cycle, over and over again. Truth be told, the MC is also an arrogant a-hole,... more>> but he's a righteous arrogant a-hole with plot armor so he'll never lose or suffer a setback. <<less
