There's something I found missing in reviews that I myself only noticed when I started over from the start.

That is, the sheer genius of world-building, inferred from the first two chapters. The protagonist directly states [things negative reviews here complain about] and says he'll stake his life preventing them from releasing the game until the story is fixed... So he ends up in the game setting with a task list.

So this is NOT a mystery novel, the protagonist is NOT supposed to be even as smart as Irene Adler was.... more>> The protagonist just has a normal (not perfect) understanding of both the original and the game, neither of which match up to the reality he finds himself in. What we have is a protagonist surrounded by incredibly smart and talented characters who he thinks he can predict. And who he needs to manipulate, or die. Therefore, an expanding yandere harem battle royale that he just needs to survive until the fated showdown between Holmes and Moriarty.

Most of the bad reviews seemed to expect a different genre... <<less

Starts off with potential as a reverse Sherlock Holmes knockoff where our MC has to setup Holmes and Moriarty against each other (no reason why, it's just the only thing he knows since he's in his own game), but quickly throws it away to become a harem. By chapter 20, our MC is grovelling before Moriarty and proclaiming that he's her property while also confessing his love to Holmes. There's no mystery story here, and what little exists are just Cliffnotes versions of the original stories. What's funny is that... more>> our MC (and by extension, presumably, the author) is a diehard fan of Holmes who derides the game as a cheap copy of the Holmes stories, but that's what the author himself ends up writing. Each case is just the corresponding Holmes story, but with magic and another girl falling into his harem.

Oh, and to prevent him from ever coming into any hardships, he

suddenly becomes an immortal vampire out of nowhere for no good reason (other than he's "the creator of magic, " but he wasn't even the guy who developed the actual gameplay--his job was just to review the story).

Being an avid of the original Sherlock Holmes works, this series piqued my interest. And I must say, the author has done a pretty good job with the execution.

After sending a scathing email to the developers of a genderbent, fantasy Sherlock Holmes game, the MC wakes up in the body of Isaac Adler (genderbent Irene Adler). To ensure his own survival, he has to ensure that the irrational storyline created by the story team stays does not deviate too much from the flow of the world and that the characters... more>> of the story remain true to their purpose.

While the mysteries from the original works are adapted into the game, the fantasy elements helps add a twist to them. But, rather than having the mysteries as the focus, I'd say that the characters are what take the limelight. Each of them is well fleshed out, having their own personalities and struggles and hiding a mystery of their own. Their interactions are pretty amusing as well. Watching what can perhaps be called the 'Human-side' of some of these characters is pretty refreshing as well.

All in all, whether you like the mystery genre or you don't, or whether you like Sherlock Holmes or you don't, I'd suggest you give this novel a try. <<less

This is a novel that revolves around the MC, Isaac Adler, changing the flow of the world so that it doesn’t get erased. As we read in the synopsis this is the world of the Sherlock Holmes novels but with all the characters genderswapped to females, except for the protagonist Isaac Adler.

Contrary to the Sherlock Holmes novels, this story is not about the mystery of crimes, they mostly get resolved pretty quickly and aren’t really interesting. The mystery is in the world itself and what would be the fate of... more>> our protagonist.

As you already guessed the are a lot of girls in this web novel, so this story mostly appeals to those who enjoy harem stories and especially for those who like yanderes. As every female character in the story is unhealthy obsessed with the MC. <<less

I can't read this. Like, holy hell, this story feels so damn incoherent. I believe it's due to the ab*se of time skips and leaning too much on the original story.

Let's take The Speckled Band arc for example.

It starts with our MC, Isaac, being stabbed by Helen Stoner. He then woke up in the hospital, and decided to become lady Grace Roylett's pet (?) taking advantage of him being a vampire (read: exotic animal).

After that, it cuts to Moriarty and Holmes (waifu ver btw) entering the Roylett mansion, where they're surprised to see him as a pet. Holmes shares her deduction of the case to Isaac, which he rejects as incorrect.

But see, there's zero investigation whatsoever! You're expected to imagine Holmes doing the same thing as in the novel, except this world has magic! This chapter is the first time the speckled band is even brought up inside the story itself! Holmes literally has never spoken with Helen on-screen up to this point! In fact, they literally never interact on-screen during this entire arc!

By the way, the twist of the novel is that Helen is actually the culprit (the previous deduction is that lady Roylett used the snake to inject hallucinogen into Helen to force her to commit the crime). She is revealed to be obsessed with Isaac... except she literally only appears twice: once when she stabbed him and once when the truth was revealed and she was trying to r*pe him.

A lot of people who reviewed this talked about how this novel basically scalps the original Sherlock book. Entirely true by the way but even if you haven't read the original books, this novel just sucks to read due to just how predictable it really is. Isaac's plans literally never succeed, especially if it's a scheme against the main cast. If he makes a plan or a plan is being thought of in his mind, you can guarantee the exact opposite will happen. If he makes a plan behind the... more>> heroines backs, you can guarantee he will be caught. He just seems to be a Gary Sue, being carried solely by the plot who's purpose begins to make less and less sense as the novel goes on. <<less

It's a decent novel.

That is, if you can ignore the absolute butchering of the setting, and the absurdity of the situation every single time. I just find so many grains with it.

the whole academy thing? That thing wasn't even used for much before getting thrown out of the window. I don't know why it was even there in the first place.

Mc's beauty now automatically fix half of the trouble he run into, without any backslash.

Red mana being a symbol of vampire yet the girl just casually show it to someone else, and nobody knows, except conveniently the main cast all know.

This novel is the definition of chaos hahaha the amount of chaos in every chapter is soo much, it never gets boring in any way it's wayy to entertaining.

The personality of every character is just a chef's kiss everyone feels alive and the interaction between them is such a joy to read.

And the MC is one of my favorite Character of any novels I've read he has just the perfect character for this novel he is straight forward who is also shy, he is a playboy with no experience, he... more>> is controlling and manipulative but is also kind and caring, he is clever but is also goofy and dumb, and the most important my man is a chick magnet especially the psychotic ones yes you yandere lovers get onboard.

Which makes his life so miserable yet so fun whichever you prefer.

I know it's a harem but you gotta try it this just soo damm entertaining. <<less

Given this is from the author of The Main Heroines Are Trying to Kill Me, I went into this expecting a character-driven novel and it has not disappointed. The story revolves around the MC, Isaac Adler, bringing cases for Moriarty to plan and Holmes to solve to alleviate their boredom.

To be clear, despite Holmes being a character, this is not really a mystery series. The author loosely bases Adler's cases around the Sherlock Holmes books and wisely focuses on Holmes and Moriarty's machinations on Adler rather than trying to write... more>> mysteries like Arthur Conan Doyle.

My only complaint is that the system / mana stuff, while a minor part of the story, is a bit convoluted and not explained well. So the series is currently a 4.5/5 for me.

I hear that the series really picks up at around ch 100, so hopefully the setting will be better explained by that point.

PS: A minor thing I really liked is that

Moriarty instantly deduced that Isaac has an invisible window he is reading. While Holmes is less observant, she fairly quickly reached the same conclusion about Isaac as well.

It's not much of a crime solving novel. Most of the focus is on the interactions between MC and the girls. All girls are crazy, obsessive yanderes who want to tie MC up in a basement to keep him there forever. Translation quality is pretty good;as you expect from genesis. You should read it if you want a yanderes harem novel.
