Chu Yu was good-looking and had a good family background. Despite being male and an irredeemable slacker, he was still elected as Jianing Private School’s school flower by an overwhelming number of votes.

The whole school knew that Chu Yu was on bad terms with the second year’s top student who’d won so many awards from various competitions that his hand had gone limp with exhaustion just from holding them. He was the cold, restrained, taciturn, and indifferent to anyone school grass, Lu Shi.

That was until one certain day after school, when someone saw Chu Yu amongst the trees behind the school building, pulling on the sleeves of the study god’s white shirt while speaking pitifully, “Lu Shi, give me a bite, I’ll be gentle.”

Lu Shi put his finger in Chu Yu’s mouth. “It doesn’t matter if it hurts a little.”

——

Chu Yu was frightened to discover that, overnight, he had awakened a strange bloodline that required him to suck a drop or two of blood everyday in order to survive. However, the blood of everyone was bitter and smelly, except…Lu Shi’s.

#The Heavens must be pitting me#

——

*坑 (lit. Pit.) means a teammate that intentionally or unintentionally screws their teammate over.

Overall the story is good. Both the MC and ML try to face reality and overcome their pains and struggle while becoming a pillar for each other through their journey.

The unsatisfactory part is that there is no explanation of how the MC got his vampire characteristic setting from and the background of the MC has been put much thought into.

MC and ML are too dependent on each other but there is no clear goals for the future except wanting to live with each. Like after the ML had completed his... more>> revenge he didn't no what to do with his life except living for the MC.

I like the story if viewed generally ignoring the plot holes in the story. The possessiveness of the MC and ML adds a charm to the story. How the become the strength of each other. Good development of the story.

Just the story should have some smut scenes it would have been more awesome, cuz too little stories go into dark romance genre would good storyline. <<less

If you look at the book purely as a typical school story, it's actually quite solidly written. However, the book was written in such a way that the protagonist is—let’s say—a vampire who can only drink the blood of the male lead. But this concept was neither really explained nor explored in the story. Even by the end, you can't really say where it comes from or what it's supposed to mean. It also has no real impact on the plot, except at the very beginning, where it gives the... more>> two protagonists a reason to spend time together. Other than that, it plays no role in the story, which is quite disappointing—especially since the book’s description places strong emphasis on that aspect, so you’d naturally expect more in that direction.

The whole blood-drinking thing doesn’t seem to matter much to the protagonist either, and both characters just accept it without question. The actual story is more focused on the main character’s academic struggles and his poor relationship with his mother. <<less

First of all, the translator did an amazing job capturing the nuances of the original text.

While I typically avoid school life stories, the themes in this novel drew me in. The friendships, with their witty banter and heartwarming dynamics, added a layer of depth and humor to the story, a welcome change from the typical BL tropes. Even the way the teacher, old Ye, interacted with his students was refreshing, adding a layer of heart to the story.

However, the true highlights were the ML and MC. Their character development was... more>> well-done, giving context to their personalities (one possessive, one clingy) and they were perfectly matched. I particularly enjoyed how the MC's narcissism was always delivered with humor. <<less

One of a kind 'heavy' novel but the author delivers the storyline in an epic way! In comparison, I'm the type of reader who hates excessive conflict, including the conflict in this story, but the author presents and outlines the story very well, the conflict is packed fast and dense, so it's not 'annoying' for light story readers like me.

The plus point of this novel is the solid character development. Our MC is silly, sweet, she's beautiful, she's arrogant, yet her arrogance is adorable. She's a real cure for our... more>> ML. Yandere, possessive, obsessive, one of my most favorite characters to have in a Ml. Really, great writer to keep both of their characters consistent from beginning to end. Although at the beginning I was confused, like? When did ML suddenly like MC?

The fantasy genre towards the end started to disappear. Fantasy? Or is it a scientific disease? I'm not sure, but it was a starting point that brought them together well.

Consistent story, worth your time, but not the light and lovey dovey kind despite ML's MC being very clingy 🫶

Thanks to the author for the masterpiece, and thanks to the translator for letting me get to know this story. <<less

A-tier (4.2 star point)

What I love from this novel is the way the two male leads are broken, and yet they're complete when they're together. Chu Yu is not as described in the summary, he's not the spoiled guy or the person who likes to make trouble. He's just very lonely. And that loneliness in the end was fulfilled by Lu Shi, another broken guy who is lonely and alone. He fight his demon alone, and when he met Chu Yu, he started to become human.

The line I remember... more>> from the novel, is when Lu Shi wanted to taint Chu Yu to be just like him, to make him no longer pure. But in the end, it turned into pure love instead. It's Lu Shi who can't live without Chu Yu.

Somehow with this author, they always go with the "black-hearted" parents. Both Chu Yu's mother and Lu Shi's family have their own flaws, and they're definitely not perfect, and they're just so pitiful. Other than being pitiful, they're also bad people. They're villain in their own way. But they're villain with layers, not just the usual boring villain. And I love that.

The story is Happy Ending, but the road to that happy ending is long and painful. And at the end of the novel, I was so happy for the two of them for grabbing that happiness themselves. It's not happiness handed to them on silver platter, but it's happiness that they fought to get so they could be happy together. <<less

Status: beautiful prose exceptional translation
what I was struck by initially was the gorgeous prose of the author. the scene setting is detailed and melancholy.

once you get further into the novel the beauty of the translation team really kicks in. lovely footnotes and the staff shenanigans had me rolling. Bubbles for the win!

so many reviews on this skip over the fun of the side characters. the pure delight of slice of life stories. to me it felt like A Life So Beautiful. so many delicious high school hijinks. Dream-Ge spinning his basketball on his middle... more>> finger = chefs kiss provocateur. Shitou competing against an elementary school kid in a claw game = delightfully embarrassing. everyone wearing red bands around their foreheads= well I won’t spoil it but I laughed out loud.

this isn’t a story for folks who love dog blood dramas or misunderstandings or endless action. this is a story for folks who appreciate humorous and thoughtful world building.

i do agree however that the vampire bit deserved more of a spotlight... but there’s no way to give half stars and this was so delightful I rounded up. enjoy! <<less

This novel was really great in the way it developed it's characters. It keeps it's pace nicely and didn't get dull at all despite the characters not dating until the latter half of the story.

I love the way how Chu Yu isn't oblivious to Lu Shi's advances and the way their relationship progresses feels so natural. Lu Shi never oversteps MC's boundaries but still shows his love so wholeheartedly. I love watching them heal together.

The translator also took the extra mile when translating.

I highly recommend this novel!!!

Very nice read. It’s very funny how the MC is always very concerned with his looks and will only like someone better looking than himself. The ML has lived a difficult life and was full of hatred and only wanting revenge. MC showing up in his life saved him from all the darkness. At the same time, he also saved the MC since the MC can only survive with his blood. I really like this author’s novels.

I read this a year or two ago and remembered enjoying it. Reading it for the second time, it was harder to finish cause the anticipation of finding out the unknown was not there. Therefore, it’s best not to read the spoiler as it might affect your reading experience.

MC, Chu Yu, is an easy going boy from a wealthy family. ML, Lu Shi, is aloof and cold with beautiful hands. I wonder if the author has a hand fetish since ML’s hands got more mentions than both MC’s and ML’s... more>> parents combined. 😂

Spoiler

MC for some reason has a blood sucking trait. The reason is never completely explained in the novel. MC needs blood and has physical reactions when he is in withdrawal. ML’s blood is the only one that smells good to MC.

ML was portrayed as being mysterious and has self harmed himself. He realizes before MC that MC is attracted to his blood. ML believes his blood is dirty so he feels good knowing that MC doesn’t reject his blood but craves it. ML gives MC blood daily and this leads to the blossoming of their romance.

SPOILER...

...

ML was mentally unstable because the woman he thought was his biological mom was actually his stepmom. He was then told that she died in childbirth but ML was suspicious. Later, ML discovered that his mom was mu*dered by his stepmom. His father and grandfather knew and covered it up.

In the end, ML was able to gather proof and completed his revenge.

Looking at the reviews I wasn't quite sure what to think about this, but I really liked it.

As others have said, there's never an explanation for Chu Yu's vampirism--I chalk it up to the fact

Spoiler

that Lu Shi would never have opened up to anyone who wasn't completely dependent on him for something, so it's just a plot device. So yes, there are possibly unhealthy elements about their relationship, but without changing either of their intrinsic natures, I think it's actually decent overall.

[collapse]

I love how despite the fact that it was Chu Yu's sudden vampirism that drew them together, he and Lu Shi do end up building a pretty solid relationship. They're there for each other, and support each other completely.

I would also definitely say the male yandere tag is apt. (And it's why I stumbled on this one in the first place)

There's more face slapping than I expected based on the description, due to a background plot I won't spoil.

The ending
Spoiler

isn't really an ending so much as an ending to this part of their story. Whether or not the author goes back and continues the story for these characters, you get the impression that it continues on.

Ahhh, this is a real gem... very well written and translated. School romance with a beautiful, shameless, lazy and adorably narcissistic 'vampire' MC x a school-genius rebellious-punk yandere ML. Even though MC needs blood to survive, this is not a vampire tale and MC is not keen to know whether he is one or not. The emphasis is not on vampires but on the protags' school life and their relationship development. MC's exclusive need for ML's blood brings the 2 together in a very special way, beneficial to both their... more>> fragile psychology. Both are estranged from their parents and both suffer serious abandonment issues. Their relationship dynamic is very interesting and I like how author portrays their 'symbiotic' relationship. I loved their interactions, their romance, their temperament, their obsession, ML's yandere personality and MC's funny narcissism. They are surrounded by a good cast of helpful and supportive friends. I wish there was a sequel about them enjoying their university life! <<less

The dynamic of Leads are so good. HighSchool love, the environment, the students everything brought me back to my schools days. [Sobbing in a corner. Jpg]

They are people with faults, everyone lack something in their life that they always yearn for.

ML and MC are typical example of minus and minus becomes plus. Their relationship may seem little bit toxic according to today's trend, that they are dependent on each other, but I see nothing wrong with that. They can't live without each other also, they are like light for each... more>> other's life. ML is shown a bit like Yandere, but tbh he is not yandere to the core, you can see that when the chapters go along. He respects MC and if MC says No, then it's a NO.

Highly Recommended!! <<less

Haven't been reading for a bit and oh boy, can I say this was worthy of being the novel that dragged me back into it? Finished it in one day and instantly catapulted to being one of my faves.

Absolutely riveting. This is a book of complexity, of contradictions. It's shounen ai but is filled with more s*xual tension and sexy vibes than some of the yaoi novels I've read. It's a story about 17-18 year olds but the ML feels nothing like a young teen. It has some of the... more>> purest, most lighthearted playful moments of kids at school, but is also filled with some of the darkest, most painful, and scary things imaginable. And that's representative of the dynamic between our MC and ML.

The ML, the ML. It's hard to imagine how a kid of only 18 years old could have survived through the life he led and the pain he experienced. He's so dark and twisted and mentally problematic, but it's beautiful. One of the worst yanderes you'll see for sure, but can you really blame him? Luckily for him, the MC has a symbiotic relationship with him. Neither can live without the other, and the blood is honestly used in a beautiful way as a way for them to vent, to express their need and obsession with each other. I love both of them so much and I wish this story were longer. I wanted to see more of my two beauties together. <<less

Because of the plot description, it seems that this is a typical story about school years with supernatural elements; in some ways it is, but it also has unique elements that make the novel interesting and different. I really liked both MC and ML, despite their negative characteristics. I think the main reason is that they felt real, and I liked their growth. It's strange; ML does really dangerous things and is possessive, but I never felt scared for MC. I felt that MC was safe with ML and that... more>> he would never hurt him. And MC was so understanding; his EQ is amazing. Those two were made for each other. The story is interesting too, but the characters and their relationships are what made it so engrossing. MC needed someone who would love him unconditionally. ML needed someone he could trust. I think MC grounded ML. I loved that they both had interesting backstories too. At first, I thought that the main accent would be on the MC being a supernatural creature, but it wasn't as important as I thought. It isn't even shown why MC changed, but at the end of the day, it isn't important. The MC and ML's relationship is the most intriguing part of this novel. It has other interesting parts too. I think it is worth reading and would recommend it. <<less

I finished the story through MTL, but I'm willing to wait for the translation team to finish it, because some things were quite confusing towards the end. Still one of my favourite modern novels~

The novel deserves 5 stars for me, and the fact that I decided to MTL shows that. The plot is centered around our MC Chu Yu and ML Lu Shi, though the focus at the end was more for Lu Shi, because he clearly has an intricate family story and he needed to solve The Conflict to... more>> start thinking of his own life, to heal and be together with Chu Yu.

Major spoiler:
Spoiler

His backstory was harsher by far, his mother was killed by his father and the woman he was supposed to marry, then that woman pretended to be his mother his whole life, up until he found out the truth like a year before the story starts. He is very self-destructive at the beginning, and I have to admit that he would have also been an amazing MC!

[collapse]

Chu Yu still gets to work on his own problems, and I was satisfied with the choices he made, though I think he was a bit too kind, but that may just be me.
Spoiler

After all the neglect from his mother (and brother+sister, though they at least tried to spend time with him) and the way that shaped his personality, Chu Yu decided to be the bigger person and just broke the relationship with his mother, wishing her a good life. (Take this with a grain of salt, because MTL OuQ)

[collapse]

I do think that at times the story seems a bit unrealistic, because there is a strong feeling of love cures all, and it kind of does in this case, though Chu Yu and Lu Shi really are well matched. There are some plot holes
Spoiler

Some major ones like the reason behind Chu Yu needing blood never being explained, and some minor ones like the connection between the two that allows Lu Shi to find Chu Yu (like some kind of miracle) after he gets trapped in a cave due to the earthquake or whatever that brought down part of the mountain.

[collapse]

but overall, they make a great couple and I could never imagine them getting together with anyone else. Chu Yu wants someone beautiful that needs him, and Lu Shi wants to be needed, to get revenge and to protect what's important to him, so they are a perfect fit.

TL;DR: It's a great story, not too serious but with enough drama and tension to keep you hooked. Not perfect, but still one of my favourites. CP is really great and sweet to each other. <<less

I'm not brave enough to MTL the rest so I'm waiting for the rest of the translations. What I have read so far is great though!

I'm super curious about how the MC became a vampire and why only the ML's blood is compatible. I saw a lot of reviews saying that this is never addressed so this 4 stars might change to a 3 when I finish.

Can I just say that the ML is so HOT?? He's a top student at school but outside he's a total bad boy. He... more>> races, he drinks, he smokes, and basically does everything that you would not expect from a top student. This character twist is quite charming and I found myself just swooning over the ML most of the time LOL. It is also very attractive how he takes care of the MC.

Plus the characters are super likable! I like how the story is not just about our main couple! The side characters are well fleshed out and I found Dream-ge to be my favorite. I love him.

This is a pretty good read though, especially if you're into the stuff I'm into *ahem* read the tags *ahem*. <<less
