I completed this through MTL, which itself was not terrible.

I have no reason to like the ML and his crew of friends. They've done nothing but WRONG the MC since the very beginning and honestly, they didn't even try to repent and jus kept adding on to their 500mile long list of antagonizing. I'm also really sad that the 2nd ML didn' t have any opportunity to grow in this story, that was one of my biggest :thumbsdown: to this entire... more>> novel. He had so much potential at the end of the story, but then the focus pivots itself back to the depressed ML time and time again. :/ Really, this universe is just so unjust. And it's not like we even knew they were the 2nd ML until.. NEVER, at least according to the main plot. SIGH.

Overall, I loved the drama, I loved that the MC picks himself up (and something else along the way), but I will never appreciate this ML or his group of friends. <<less

Maybe sad, the MC is quite useless. I haven't finished reading this yet. Still waiting for the black lotus to emerged. Is the black lotus mc? Maybe, who knows. Can't wait if the MC will retaliate. The ML is hateful. Just kill him can't ya!

All I have to say is complete the novel through raws (yeah you have to use Google translate it translate much better now) cause you only get to read half chapters here and stop judging the story without fully completing it. People here are so weak minded they can't tolerate such things so they should read tags before reading any novels or they don't even have to complete it just cursing the author I think author is really good at writing scene every scene hit heart the most I love... more>> the author's way of writing and love this novel. <<less

The storyline the characters everything is perfect for the trop like this but I am amazed by the storyline like it hit so hard when wen niannan was suffering I felt like it was happening Infront of my eyes or I just entered their world oh my gosh this author is so good with writing stories it's just so damn good but in the end it's not like other stories where ML get away from suffering or just doesn't suffer much. Gu yansheng suffered so much and put every effort... more>> even if it cost his life I like ML like these who completely kneel themselves for wrong doings which is available in this novel but but but you have to wait for 100 chapters for that to happen coz the novel is really long and good so suffer till that then enjoy gu yansheng's suffering I love this novel very much will always have priority in my heart. <<less

I purposely searching this kind of novel myself. I want find the good revenge because im sick reading novel that always has s*um ML and s*upid MC forgive them without giving them what they deserves. I mentally strong to read this garbage novel with patiently waiting our MC one day comeback stronger to destroy the entire ML family along with the people who contribute with them. I dont hope he just... s*upidly useless MC after all he been through and still forgive him. WHERE'S THE REVENGE? That ML guy destroy... more>> you entirely. From heart to dignity, yet still forgive him just because the ML finally feeling guilty and realize he was wrong all this time? Isnt it bare minimum for any ab*sers should feel? the author made a good job...

probably, this is the ML that I hated the most. I remember, while reading, thinking of killing him in many ways possible.

despite hating the ML, I couldn't empathize with the MC. this is a bad thing, right?

and after the divorce... man, is this a novel about transmigration? the way the ML changed his personality and behavior, the only explanation is that some transmigrattor took his body.

and the plotholes, the OP characters (why most of CEO type in chinese bl novels are almost omnipotent? that's not the way the world works.), the interaction of some side characters...

i dropped in the middle.

Not going to rate this since I haven't finished, but would like to say that the 1 star reviews are wildly exaggerating how supposedly bad the story is.

Don't make moral judgments about a pure dogblood story that's just a piece of fiction not meant to be taken seriously.

Personally I find it entertaining enough so far, but also repetitive to the point where I struggle to keep my interest.

If you get riled up over Gu Yansheng, you've obviously never read a real dark romance story in your life. He's still quite tame compared to most of the 188 gongs, and doesn't hold a candle to Sissy's Shao Qun (s*um president!).

The story is a soap opera, so read with this in mind. This is fine if you're in the mood for that kind of thing, and thee ab*se is simply spice to make the story more dramatic and make the reader pity the MC while cursing the ML. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for reading this type of story, and for those in thee reviews who want to act morally superior - go read some fluff instead and stop trying to shame the rest of us.

This is isn't a bad story, and personally I've read worse when it comes to how evil the characters can get. The author doesn't pretend that the ab*se is romantic. The MC is pretty s*upid and stubborn though, which makes it kind of boring. I wish he would just grow a spine and divorce the ML so we can all enjoy the ML grovelling and chasing. The novel is too long considering how simple the plot is. <<less

I regret reading this.

I’m sorry but I genuinely wonder how people enjoy this story. The MC had to deal with so much crap from the ML including violence, becoming a laughing stock in public, verbal ab*se, and a lot more. And it just gets brushed off??? What????? I’m not sure if I remember correctly but the ML even shoved the MC in a basement which triggered his trauma and it was absolutely awful. Why did they end up together?

It’s nice to know that apparently all I have to do after... more>> hitting someone and abusing them for years is to show how sorry I am. I thought the servant was alright until the chapter when the ML realized he f*cked up with the MC and is in regret. Are you kidding me? The servant witnessed all the crap going on in the household and just goes “oh yeah it’s ok cause ik you were chill what you were a kid”

I regret reading this and I hope like half of the characters burn. If you want an awful ML with brain dead characters go right ahead. <<less

I know this is unpopular opinion but I'm gonna clarify something for author justice

I'm completely agree with most comment here, that the main couple behavior are simply toxic and manipulative in which are so painful to watch. Despite its main theme to be about submissive MC who desperately fall in love with the abusive ML, however, I personally think that this is just one dimension of the story and there is more to it besides the romanticize of abusive relationship. There is a reason why some people interest in this... more>> kind of book. It is basically how you portray yourselves as and what you are focusing on. For example, you might picture yourselves as the MC and the ML is the person who hurt or traumatized you like your family, friend or lover. The story of MC taking revenge on that person might give the sense of satisfaction on getting revenge on the person you might unconsciously want to hurt but not dare to. So, in some way despite how you hate the person they might be someone important to you that you unknowingly want to forgive that person. Likewise, even though you know that your family traumatized you in the end MOST child would still take care of their parent when they are sick like how the MC still get together with ML in the end. The way that the people around MC always persuading them to get along might be their also be their thought of preserving peace that they want get along with everyone even your enemy. Some of it might be from the ideology of wanting the character to have dedication to one true love. Or else, both MC and ML might be us that when they get together it is like we accepting every part of ourselves even the cruel and aggressive part of us. Also, the progress in which we see the MC change personality after the breakup and how the ML said to MC that "you're so cruel" can also be the way you view yourselves after the trauma that you think you have grow which may appear cold and distance but mentally mature.

Therefore, you do not need to be ashamed or guilty at all if you like the novel or Manhua. There are just so much more to unpacked from this in psychological sense. Thus, If you realize the toxicity in this relationship and learn to avoid, get away or never to do it in real life you should be safe. <<less

Coming from the manhua to this, just to see if the novel would be somewhat less insufferable but from the comments I can see this is very much not so, I've lost interest. I wanna vent but these comments have already said all that needs to be said. An absolutely disgusting ML, an unbearable and irritating MC, the tr*shy luo an. What do I gain from reading this? I already know how this plot is gonna end and I already know that if I continue I'm going to end up... more>> throwing my phone. Ain't no f*cking way in hell I'm voluntary staying with a guy that obviously does not want me. There's nothing he could say that would make me forgive him if I were Nian. But that's just me. <<less

I love dog blood novels but this is way too much. The MC is a complete idiot with 0 character growth and I didn’t feel bad for him at all reading through the entire thing. MC and ML deserve immense pain and suffering

The previous review said that it had a manhwa, so I was like, "Let's check it out, why not?" Maybe because I can't really take the abusive stuff in the novel, so I tried the manhwa beforehand. I was really surprised because I sped-run through the entire stuff in just literally like, 15 minutes? And I definitely didn't enjoy it, apart from the artwork which was pretty great. Then I decided to just bite the bullet and attempt to read this stuff. And as I guessed, I couldn't get passed... more>> the first chapter (which is no surprise since I didn't heed the advice of previous reviewers). But still I skimmed random chapters and really, the only thing worth noting where all forms of ab*se, mental, physical, emotional, social, etc and the only thing I saw was that the MC's 'love' transcended that sort of ab*se, and still remained deeply in love with the ML. In other words, MC is a dumbass, till the last chapter he remained a dumbass. No improvement. I couldn't even see any character growth (given that I sped-ran per 3-5 chapters). Like, there should be some considerable noteworthy progress in each character but no, there wasn't. There is something I would like to point out to the previous 5 star reviewer which literally irked me. There are abusive novels, and I know they were famous at a point in time (like 2016-18). Actually, most CN BGs portrayed these sensitive themes such as r*pe and ab*se back then and they were quite the hit. There are still long-running novels in serialisation portraying these themes and to some extent, are also well-received by audience. But times are changing and the scales are tilting. Now, stronger MCs or at least, respectable MLs are more well-received amongst the readers. Not to mention, thriller, mystery and horror novels portraying mu*ders are completely different as compared to a supposed romance/romance-tragedy portraying pure ab*se. Despite graphic descriptions, mu*der novels tend to tilt towards solving the mystery behind a 'case', whereas there was no mystery or any interesting upcoming plot in this novel apart from predictable ab*se, which is a disappointment. <<less

I'm sorry but this has to be one of the DUMBEST cast of characters in the history of writing. I didn't get this authors obsession with the 'withholding information' trope though I guess without that critical plot device, this wouldn't even be a story... because trust me, everything in here is based around that pesky little 'withholding' information trope...

For one, the villain (SL), is so comically bad.. it's not even that he's super smart and devious and so he's able to come up with really clever underhanded schemes... no... what... more>> happens is that everyone basically tells him they plan to take him down, while simultaneously talking about their business dealings or letting him into their offices without putting away confidential information. Then, for whatever reason, they are shocked and surprised when critical business information somehow gets leaked and used against them 🙄🙄. Also, he could've been exposed a literal decade ago, back when everyone was in HS, but MC is your typical weak, sniveling, 'love at first sight' simpleton who can't be assed to just say 'SL stole from me and here's proof...' because... his crush on the ML would be revealed... yeah...

And despite everyone else also knowing SL's a POS and having actual evidence to substantiate it (MLs mom has the actual evidence of SL taking money from her to go abroad because he gave two shits about being in a relationship with her son), they just go 'well, ML won't believe me anyways, so what's even the point? Sure, MC is suffering (ML beats his ass regularly) but... what can we possibly do to help???'... because, I guess there's no power in numbers or, you know, actual evidence. Honestly, the villain is a pest and annoying but I didn't hate him.... he was more an opportunist than an evil mastermind.

The second ML (TS). A joke of a man. Honestly, he irritated me more than the ML. He was insanely obnoxious and immature. His family was literally fighting for their lives (like literally) and he was too caught up in some BS fantasy romance with the MC to truly give a damn. He's also weirdly creepy and obsessive to me. In the early stages he 100% crosses boundaries with the MC and pesters him even when MC clearly doesn't want it. When MC tells him it's not appropriate, he still comes to his house and hugs him, making the ML misunderstand. And sure, ML has no room to talk, but that's not the point... his intentional provocations did nothing to help anyone, ever. Also, when the ML first sees them together at dinner, TS says NOTHING to defend the MC while ML is degrading MC about 'cheating', so honestly, I didn't like him from there, because obviously he was more invested in MC not liking ML then MCs mental health and reputation at that time. He's a loser IMO and IDK why anyone thought they would be good together. He can't give the MC anything substantive from a mental or emotional perspective. He's an emotional leech and I found him tiresome and irksome. He almost got his well meaning brother killed cause of his BS.

His brother (TL) was also dumb for coddling TS while the family was literally sinking and going bankrupt. And this is NOT to say I agreed with the ML and his shenanigans, but the Gu family (MLs family) were very obviously the more powerful family, and it made NO SENSE for the Tang family to create enemies on two sides -- especially when TL knew that his family's business was small and growing. When he realized they were being framed/targeted, he should've just admitted the truth to ML but here's that good ol' 'withholding information' trope to create drama. Honestly TL questioning the ML's trust of the Tang family made no sense when even TL knew there had been a breech in information. If he would've just been a mature adult and admitted that information had been compromised and they weren't doing anything underhanded, ML might've trusted him a little more and helped him figure out the mole. Beyond that, TL should've also been firmer with TS on cooling it on his HS crush until the business deal was signed; instead the idiot (TS) is going around doing lives and buying couple cell-phone charms knowing it's going to piss ML off, while his brother is working himself to death (literally) trying to keep his family from going into bankruptcy since they've incurred enemies on both sides -- and what's annoying is that TL didn't need to make enemies with the ML. To me, it wasn't worth it to coddle his brother and his childish HS crush dreams...

When TL gets into the airplane crash and seemingly dies his brother still is so focused on winning against ML it made my stomach churn. Like your bother might've DIED trying to keep your childish fantasies and the family business alive and you don't even gaf? TS should've been mourning but he was seemingly more worried about making sure ML doesn't see the proof that MC saved him all those years ago because he doesn't want them to get back together...

ML (GYS). A stubborn idiot. Honestly, I don't get the obsession with the super smart business man who apparently can sniff out any form of corruption or poor business ethics but can't tell when he's being played by the 'white lotus' trope in danmei... In this case, this guy is the dumbest of the dumb, supplemented by an asinine amount of stubbornness and hardheadedness. He's willing to investigate any and everything but the man he's allegedly in love with (SL)... even when he notices inconsistencies in his stories. He also knows his 'lover' is the nephew of a rival family but never once suspects him of foul play and continually lets him into the office, into his house, gets blackout drunk around him and leaves him alone with his cellphone during negotiation periods without any consideration for his business plans or trade secrets. He also can never seem to recall anything on his nights out with SL and yet he never suspects anything... He's so s*upidly stubborn that even when he's being accused of the mu*der of TL, he refuses to do anything to clear his name and instead focuses on some nonsense from HS that practically everyone already alluded to in the first place, that being that MC is the one who saved him all those years ago and not SL. But honestly, he wasn't a 'hatable' character IMO. Like yes, he's god-awful, don't get me wrong, but it was more annoying to me reading about everyone ENABLING his behavior than his actual behavior, if that makes sense. Like, his mom's threats are so empty and basically amount to 'I'm going to come and babysit you guys by staying at the house for a month so your bff will do all your work for you...' and like... how is that a 'punishment' or how does that get him to change his ways??? He doesn't really ever even change because people still make excuses and cover up for his sh*t behavior.

He DESTROYED the piano of MC's late mother... like took a bat to it... the only remaining item MC had of his late mom... and MC is supposed to just 'suck it up' because 'he has a temper'??? Ofc it's silly but that's how all his actions got justified.

ML's Mom. I wanted to like her but I couldn't. Sure, she liked MC and wanted him to be the Gu family 'wife' but she also did f*ck-all to actually support MC in any way that truly mattered and at the end of the day, everything she did was solely for the sake of her son and his future. She KNEW SL was a POS who took money from her to go abroad because he gave two fu**s about her son, but she didn't say anything to GYS when he was berating MC over it. She also knew that MC was the one who saved her son from the kidnappers and didn't say anything to GYS... instead of minding her son she threatens MC with the financial ruin of his family to force him to stay in his physically and mentally abusive relationship with GYS. She was there when GYS poured wine on MC's head on their wedding date and seemingly didn't say or do anything. She lets her son yell in MCs face every other day that he wants a divorce and doesn't really stop him from parading around with his 'lover' but as soon as MC wants a divorce she suddenly finds her voice... At the end of the day she just wanted to secure her child's future with a basically weak-willed, obedient wife who would never betray him, allowing him to become President of the Gu family without issue. She used MC to help block the Shen and Qi family so her son could rise to the top without incident and she picked MC because she felt like being married into the Gu family was his due payment for rescuing her son and because his obedient and docile nature made him the perfect doormat for their family...

MC (WNN). So.... he does a lot of s*upid stuff, and they throw in this concept of him feeling unloved or blamed for his mothers death as to why he's so weak-willed but it makes no sense in the overall scope of the plot. Overall he never confesses anything to MC because 'what's the point' which starts back in HS for no real reason other than he's scared to stick up for himself or else SL will tell ML about his crush... MC's also... oddly naive? Like, this is the same guy who basically bullied you in HS and you really thought he'd...come to like you after being forced to marry you??? Not saying that arranged marriages can never work out, but it's foolish to think he believed anything positive would come from 1) liking your HS bully and 2) having that bully be forced to marry you. TBH he puts up with far too much BS and it shouldn't have taken nearly 100 chapters for a freaking divorce. I know he was threatened by ML's Mom about the family finances, but considering the plot was alluding to the fact that MC had a poor relationship with his dad, why care about that? He's definitely in a bit of a psychological hold because he wants his dream romance to come true so badly, which is my main issue with this story. Despite all that GYS has done to him, this 'pure young love' trope overcomes all... which opens the door to forgiving a pure ab*ser which should not be condoned. ML's ab*se is glorified as being 'unknown' emotions that he was 'struggling with' and that his bad temper worsened... but if MC can just forgive him for beating him, humiliating him, destroying personal property, etc., he can finally have that fantasy romance with his HS crush he's been dreaming about since forever. It's such a dangerous message.

It doesn't matter if an ab*ser 'changes' -- they aren't entitled to a second chance, and this story basically amounts to, 'well he changed and he's sorry so... take him back' because it's easier to live in a youthful fantasy. GYS wasn't an ass just because of the misinformation with SL, he's shown to be an ass regardless... he was an ass to TS in HS and his own staff and BFF... what MC loved was a person who didn't exist anymore, but his infatuation can't let go of the person he fell in love with at age 10 despite the fact that tat person has drastically changed... from the ML's perspective, he basically realizes what his mom saw in MC all along, an obedient, docile 'wife' to do whatever you say because they are 'in-love' with you... <<less

Won't rate it as I started with the novel but continued on with the manhua, but man I wish I hadn't read it. I got to 176 of the manhua, which is the ending? But it is different from the endings in the spoilers here. I would only rate this 1 star which I don't do often.

It's partly my fault, I had this in my rebirth list so I thought it was the crematorium type novel, which I really like. If I had knew it was a s*um gong novel,... more>> I wouldn't have read it.

Infact if this had been the ML going back in time to fix everything, I probably would have loved the story, as those are my guilty pleasures. If the ML was tortured in some way in the first life after finding out the truth, then rebirthed and treated MC right, I would be completely on board.

The MC remembering all the ab*se and getting back with the ML and ML not getting punished much, is just not my cup of tea. The author almost romanticizes DV. Also everyone keeping the misunderstanding going for 3 years watching the MC being ab*sed?! Like wtf is wrong with them? <<less

I only read the spoilers in the forum.. I don't have a heart to start reading this and just by reading spoilers I also need to wash my mind by some fluff stories. I don't gave reviews if I didn't read the novel but this made me an exception.

My first point in this is that this plot is familiar I have read it in a shoujo type novel.. FMC also save the ML and the white lotus bit*h take advantage of it. The ML continued to ab*sed the FMC until... more>> to the point of breaking down. Why did this author put this kind of plot in a Danmei? I have read of some ab*sed characters in other bl stories but not to this point that he wasn't treated as a human being. It's like the Author hated the MMC to do this to him and still ended up with a tr*sh. Gu Yansheng surpassed the legendary Shuviesh*t in this sense. And if I were the author I would just let the MMC heal himself. There is no better revenge than be happy by yourself. He should have left the ML and live happily somewhere out there someone will show up that genuinely loves him.. Not the tr*sh. Just because he realized that he was the savior and did a lot of things for him he got sympathize and fell for him like "WTF" The MC hiding that fact was actually useless and dumb eventually he will know it.. And he did really know it and fell for him. I know in real life it's hard to get out with these narcissist and sociopath ab*sers but I did hope the Author gave a message that Happy ending doesn't mean getting back together with your new leaf ab*ser. There's no security in that relationship his trauma will still act up from time to time which is also not healthy for the relationship. And happy ending doesn't mean you have to find a partner to be happy. In his case of being ab*se since he was a teen a better happy ending is to love himself. Because all through his life he only love that bastard gave himself to the love which is inexistent. The fault of MC was he drowned himself to the illusion of love. He made ML his world which is wrong..

Lesson to bring out of this:

Don't love foolishly

Don't sacrifice yourself for love

Love yourself

Love doesn't only mean being in a relationship. You also have to love yourself.

Best revenge for ab*sers is to made them see your happy. Don't bother retaliating with them just be yourself and happy.

Stay away from toxic people and seek help.. If they are using reverse psychology to you resist it and don't give in.. Read more books on how to avoid these type of people.

P.S: Lastly I just felt that the author just reference this plot from another FMC type novel. I could never mistaken that I have read same scenario but the MC was female.. I just can't remember which novel. But this could have been better if written with a thought of healing. <<less

With a whooping 186 votes or 67% one-star rating, I obviously started this novel with trepidation and caution. I didn't read other reviews before because I didn't want to influence my reading experience.

Sooo... Guess what? It kinda deserves the low rating. The characters, the plot and the writing are weak, the logic is a whole big disjointed mashup of cliches and trope-abiding. It makes for a rather annoyingly unberable thing to read because the readers know what's wrong with the story, but the author already went... more>> off hitchiking to the neverland abyss of dog-blooded mary sue vs slag man drama: chinese BL version. Hence, the content warning.

Do proceed with caution and make sure to always put your logic brain glasses on. <<less

5 stars, this deserves 5 stars. I've never enjoyed watching a MC suffer so much. I'm not a monster or a sadist, it's just that the MC loves it, LOVES IT. He wallows in the ab*se like a pig in shit. He's not a victim, he's an active participant who fully seeks out and embraces any mistreatment he can. The MC does everything he can to avoid being treated like a person and constantly manipulates the people around jim into treating him as poorly as possible.

I can't even hate the... more>> ML. The ML is the real victim. The only thing he's done wrong is that he's allowed himself to be manipulated and gaslit by the MC to the point where he's become violent and deranged, all because that's what the MC wants. Gaslighting used to be called crazy making for a reason and the MC has fully made the ML look insane.

I had to stop reading to leave this review because I'm so impressed with this author. I've read so many dogs blood novels but I've never read one with this twist. You should seriously read this novel with an open mind and realize how insidious the plot really is. <<less

I liked this novel, but the author seemed to have lost creativity half way. First is the unnecessary kidnapping in this story, I can’t remember how many times, but it happened frequently. Secondly, the character I forgot the name, that guy that keeps on escaping, I can’t stand it! They’re supposed to be rich families, and they can’t keep that guy locked up?! Why?!

So, half of this novel, I felt bored reading. I just finished it for the sake of finishing it.
