The only half left, Han Naeyung, who lost his twin brother, lived for revenge. Then one day, a man appears with a rescued dog. Introducing himself as Jin, he approaches Han Naeyung without hesitation.

“I’m interested in you. Enough to make up excuses about a dog shampoo that doesn’t even work.”

Han Naeyung is also drawn to him with his sweet breath. His warmth makes him greedy.

But this feeling towards Jin is wrong. Han Naeyung must kill those bastards to survive but with blood-stained hands, he cannot embrace him.

This is a short, psychological novel that's worth the read. If you come here for the romance, it's only a few chapters however this novel is really dark and really make you question if this is right.

mu*der of the perpetrators by MC; MC's adopted father, a retired judge from MC's case, was willing to pull some strings if MC was convicted of his ab*sers' mu*ders to safeguard his life because he was guilty he wasn't able to give the appropriate justice to MC; ML, a prosecutor and the 'Hyung' from MC's childhood took advantage of MC's frail mental health to pretend not to know anything or even ML to escape suspicion.

The author did a good job in bringing out MC's mental health issues since

MC was recommended to use hypnosis to shrug off the past memories as 'nightmares' but he chose not to in order to remember his twin. The PTSD from back then still haunt the MC until the last perpetrator was given life sentence.

Han Naeyung is a veterinarian with a hidden agenda of enacting revenge against his past ab*sers while the ML Jin is a prosecutor with a rescued dog, who basically falls in love at first sight with the other man. Both have a natural draw to each other, though Naeyung has a lot of walls up from his past trauma.

The pacing is a bit abrupt at times, and I actually enjoyed the manhwa adaptation of this story a bit more. I found the flashbacks to be a little more poignant in visual imagery, as though they are still quite intense in the novel, I didn't feel quite the same level of disgust as I did while reading the manhwa.

The character interactions were also a bit stilted at times, as Jin comes off a little too strong at times. There's one scene where he almost forces himself on Han Naeyung that I felt leaned a bit too close to r*pe for comfort, so just a warning to be aware.

The translation is edited MTL so there's a few mistakes with pronouns and grammar, but it's still generally readable. If you're just reading the novel to figure out the ending while waiting for the manhwa though, and want to spare the time of reading the novel:
