Cannon Fodder Fake Master Was Stunned After Being Reborn

Description

It was only after Jian Xingsui’s death that he realized that he was the cannon fodder in a book with a dog-blooded plot. He was a dumb and s*upid fake young master in it.

In the book, he was reluctant to return to his poor ”biological” parents. He was greedy of the Jian Family’s wealth and also wanted to suppress the protagonist shou of the book, the real young master. With the tricks that he had personally thought out in his pig-headed brain, he finally succeeded in annoying the hell out of everyone in the family:

His CEO former eldest brother: “I don’t have a younger brother like you.”

His celebrity former second brother: “Never mention to anyone in the entertainment industry that I used to be your brother!!!”

His former father: “Get out, I’m so disappointed in you.”

After that, he was kicked out of the house and had a terrible ending.

After he was reborn, when it was the day when the protagonist shou came up to his door, instead of waiting for his family to talk to him, he took the initiative: “You guys won’t have to say anything, I am willing to leave the house!”

Not long after returning home, his poor “biological” parents said: We’re sorry, you don’t seem to be our own child.

Jian Xingsui: ??

Later, the top wealthy family, the Shen family, finally found their young master who had been separated from them for many years. The whole family rejoiced and could not wait to make up for everything to this child:

His CEO biological eldest brother: “Is this 50 million pocket money enough for you?”

His celebrity biological second brother: “You can casually choose any one of these scripts.”

His biological parents: “Suisui is really our pride!”

When the people of the Jian family finally remembered the poor kid who had been kicked out and wanted to give him some compensation, they found out that the new, praised by everyone, rising celebrity in the entertainment industry seemed to be their s*upid and annoying child…

Too many loophole the most critical is tuya Charactee design, 1st time meeting only speak germany (if I don't remember wrong), and next time speak proper mandarin, so how could someone already understand chinese within 1 min?. And the way the author mention abt being eliminated, the number told is dubious. And when the story is abt elimination progress from 52 to 16 suddenly it became elimination from 16 to 6 like, what did I miss?. Reading this feel like time travelling. Suddenly goes to future. And the 1st time... more>> I read abt JXS agent I think he is good person, cause he still giving a job to JXS even when he know JXS got kicked out, but the next the agent became a money loving villain. The difference between character setting is too much. Typical mary sue novel but because I come here for healing after reading angst hence 4 stars, recommended, good for healing. <<less

Same old, same old.

The only thing is about MC personality in his previous life. So, did he bullied the protagonist shou or not? Or was just the protagonist slandering him? Anyway, his personality doesn't seem to belong to a past bully.

Honestly... I expected more from the MC. He is too stupdly naive for someone reborn. And everytime he interacts with the super OP ml... his IQ seems to fall further.

I also see no reason for the antagonist to have been reborn too... and for him to not notice that there's something "wrong" with the MC. But that and his white lotus sheet aside... I do like him more as a reborn than the MC. Simply because he is smarter than him and actually tries to get what he wants.

My biggest... more>> complaint is really the mc's personality. He is dumb, silly, naive, shy, cowardly and his good points being considerate and hard working... and a "musical genius".

I hate the kind of story where the MC depends on the ML for everything. And this is one of those. If it wasn't for the ML this MC would've beem offed by the antagonist before the half of the novel.

Also...

Spoiler

His capabilities and personality are a big mismatch with his real family and he makes 0 effort to fix this. He is just... shy shy shy and pampered pampered pampered and it gets annoying. Even his worship of the ML gets tiring. No matter how close their families are, how close they get, how their relationship changes... he keeps being shy and it feels like theres a distance between them that never closes because he keeps acting like he is frigging inferior to him.

[collapse]

I honestly don't know how I'm able to get to this point without dropping it... actually I know. It's because of his brother and my curiosity on why he hates that teammate when that dude seems to kinda like him.. and my expectations that they'll end up together... yeah... nothing about it... the end was cute... but kinda meh too...

The mais couple? Meh... it's the same old wronged pure white lotus × OP boss super capable charming prince that we're all dead tired of. <<less

I enjoyed it! Overall, even though there's obvious flaws that could be better, I decided to give this a 5* bc I enjoyed reading the novel. The antagonists return-pace is very good (i.e. coming back to cause troubles), romance-line flirting very consistent, although there are obvious flaws my overall reading experience was positive, and it exceeds the flaws of this novel (for me) -- but I can understand if that's not the case for everyone.

The best way I can try to talk about this is - if you enjoy the... more>> CP dynamic, then you would probably enjoy the novel (?) The main plot and development of the story here is the emotional-line. I think it's also because -- this novel seems a little immature for the author, who's other works are quite fine. But in this one, it's very ambiguous whether this is heavily work-focused or romance-focused. There was an attempt to straddle the line between the two -- but I think it works better if you come into this novel liking the CP dynamic, and not focusing so much on the work part lol.

Even though it may not seem important, it's gonna save you a lot of heart/frustration with this novel because of how hm. inconsistent the work-line aspect is. The work-line plot relies heavily on the variety show arcs, there are three main meats (big seasons) that are like cornerstones in the novel. There are moments where it's just about these plots, it's --- the best way I can help you through is to say 'just focus on the romance, don't look at it/just enjoy the ride if you can' lmao. There's also a lot of fillers in between, but basically these are the main "meat" of the work-line, so don't expect much other activities/climbing up the ropes here.

In terms of quality of work-line content, work-line is very very loose. Sadly, for both the main and side-characters - which is a shame. What I mean is, there's no trajectory to their career that's as clear as others. It seems very superficial, the MC continues to make music behind the scenes for others. Being a producer, not really an idol. He doesn't make an album, doesn't hold concerts, tours, etc. He's simply just... doing his thing lol. The ML's work is even more obscure, he seems to be an actor/singer when he was young. But it's all very muddy and unclear. Even those who were in the same 'debut group' doesn't seem to have any group activities -- so you can see... it's a little disappointing, but it's fine. This is not a work-line story/drama anyways....

Anyways, although the MC is very very white lotus (which might not appeal to everyone) -- I think it's done to the degree that I can accept it if it's with the ML. So I quite like this novel. The face slaps aren't vicious or quick enough, but that's very subjective and is a personal preference. It has all the elements including warning for (cw/tw warnings below:)

Spoiler

attempted r*pe (not by ML, but in the later arc of the novel. In a mansion, on a rainy night, lol) drugging the MC (see former) -- so if you're queasy with this subject, just be warned. It doesn't actually happen, but I understand that this subject can be sensitive for other people, so just a heads up in case. It's fine though, the ML came to rescue him and nothing happen, it's not very insidious, just very badly planned by the antagonist.

[collapse]

To me, this novel really isn't that bad compared to others I've read that are more one-note. Although it has it's short comings, I find the overall experience pleasant and nice. I would recommend it, but also I've just come off reading 2 unlimited flow horror stories in a row, and desperately needed a light-hearted entertainment novel. So. My evaluation may be biased, but I think hey at least it didn't leave me feeling dissatisfied. So it's still quite good in my book!

Overall, I really really wish there's a continuation or sequel for the secondary pairing... mainly the MC's brother (real) and his nemesis... I really want to know what happened to them, and they seem like characters I'd enjoy reading as the main couple as well... <<less

I love Zhi Tang's novels, and this one was really good as well. It has a lot of face slapping, showbiz, and of course the usual 'fake master vs true master' swapped at birth trope.

It's a bit of a cliche in this genre, but the story is fun, and it's by no means as bad as another review makes it to be. Obviously it's not Shakespeare, but if you like this trope/genre, it's a welcome addition by a really great author.

2.5 stars. 2 stars are exclusively for Fu-ge. This novel is okay-ish. There are a lot of loop holes and errors in writing. But I liked the story. I don't like the main character. At first, he was okay. But he's a taker when he's with ML (Fu-ge). He just takes everything ML offers without giving much. And I hate him for that. He doesn't deserve ML. I loved the male lead!! If it's any other character, I'd have thought they're over-the-top and a Gary-Stu. But when it comes to... more>> Fu-ge it somehow feels right and not over-bearing. The amount of plot holes and convenient happenings and randomness just to create the face-slapping or doki-doki trope moment... so many.

But did I finish it? Yes, lol.

There was something about all the typical tropes you expect coming out and executed averagely (with very mid translations) that made a it a very brainless fluff easygoing read.

... more>> The leads are conveniently strong, or childish, cunning, OP, everything you want, the author will write it in. Not convincingly or coherently, but it’s there.

Could probably write a few pages on all the plot holes and my personal icks (inconsistent age difference, ML calling MC a child for most of the first part, the rebirth unexplained, why does MC’s family not even like him to begin with, but like the new kid so much, it’s so irrational), but shall just leave it as that.

The revelations and face-slapping was not satisfying for me T_T!! That was what frustrated me the most.
Spoiler

Take MC’s trumpet account and the all the way back relationship with ML. It was what was teased and foreshadowed so well (Anran in previous life, all went down bc of ML seeing the room, ML talking about his supporter being there multiple times. But the big reveal was so flat??

[collapse]
Out of nowhere (very little foreshadowing), the previous people who were bad to MC suddenly had reveals of all the sweet things he used to do and BAM! All feel hurt and stabbing pains. At one point, some random dude was introduced just to get a “you were not there for me, you’re dead to me now” plot point.

Would not reread this. <<less

This novel was really fun to read, there were multiple points where I cracked up in laughter. It was very light-hearted, and while the plot wasn't incredibly deep or profound, it was still enjoyable to read. The relationship between the ML and MC was very cute and thought out. Due to his past, the MC had self-esteem issues, making it a little hard to believe the ML could truly love him, but the ML was patient and didn't waste any time chasing the MC once he realized he loved him.

I... more>> also loved the family, oh my god, the amount of times I teared up because of how caring and sweet they were, it was everything the MC deserved and more. The friendships were pure gold too, they were so sweet and caring and it was so much fun seeing them all interact while in the variety shows.

If you're looking for a sweet and light-hearted novel to read, this one should definitely be on your list. I understand it doesn't have the greatest reviews, but I honestly had such a great time reading this novel and I only got bored towards the end purely because I was tired and I had been reading it for a long time. But other than that, this is easily a five-star novel for me, and I will be coming back to re-read this sometime in the future. <<less

Only for those who like early Disney movies. I swear the MC becomes Snow White given the power he has over everyone. To be completely honest, the MC is more a completely different person than advertised but then someone 'brought back' to his past. But then that might be how the author is showing his trauma from his past life.

Story starts out as extremely sad. Our MC is kicked out, unloved, misunderstood by everyone around him. Even his bio parents care more about their fake son than him. But then... more>> he decides to change himself and, for a family side of the story does an awesome job at becoming a full-fledge mature adult that you can't help but greatly empathize with. And then the contest is over and he becomes this weird, weak-willed wraith who only does with everyone tells him. The majority of the poor reviews are because from this point the author goes 'oh yeah, I got these things to do' and proceeds to do them badly.

Also the discussion about pronouns is a legitimate thing. The character does a complete 180 during the romance portion that if you're like me, who really loved the early version of the character, you feel a bit off by this lovesick teenager girl inhabiting his body. Early in the story we are told that MC was, in his previous life, a very aggressive guy that people misunderstood all the time. It's why he ended up dying in a back alley. In, what I can only charitably describe, as poor taste, constantly make fun of a character with those same traits. <<less

Honestly, the potential at the beginning until the reveal and reuniting with the real family was solid. But after that I feel that the author kept dragging the story. Maybe building up the love story after the big reveal got hard, and I keep feeling that it's just forcing the plot to continue to move forward. Even the face-slapping left me unsettled. Like, that's it? I just kept pushing through because I want to know the ending but I really can't, for the life of me, read the extras. I... more>> know there must be some type of explanation for the rebirth on the extras or about the first life, maybe I'll read that next time when I'm willing to give this book a re-read. <<less

Angst, emotions and then unconditional love.

Had fun reading this after nothing but brainless fluff for a while.

Will probably feel more heartwarming if read directly after angst or action.

My favorite thing about this book was the MC and the shen family, they were very cute so I'll give it 3 stars

However I didn't really like a lot of the plot.

First of all, the ML appeared from like the first or second chapters and literally never left after that he was always somehow in the narrative which was strange since this is the MCs story and then he suddenly fell for the MC for no apparent reason except that he defended him (ml) to some black fans. His interest... more>> was strange and unwarranted, also he was with anran in the previous life and loved everything about that fake green tea so the fact that he all of a sudden fell for the MC in this life felt like the author was forcefully trying to make him the love interest and make the romance plot advance. I feel like for the most part of the book the MC just liked him as a fan likes an idol so imo the ML should have been someone else closer in age to MC and this FJ guy remained as a cool mentor /idol tbh.

My next gripe with the ML is the power dynamics in their relationship plus the age gap, it made me uncomfortable the whole time ngl. Also the strange scene of when the MC met the MLs mother for the first time and she was already giving him a family heirloom meant specifically for the brides of the family and basically planning his marriage to her son was strange as all hell especially because MCs mom who literally just got her long lost son back seemed to be going along with it. Like the dude is so young why should he be getting married?!

Anyway, it's not a bad book to pass the time I guess.

Enjoy. <<less

Two stars coz I was enjoying it for like the first 20 chapters.

However the MC turned into the white moonlight and it just disgusted me. I'm used to that being the persona of the villain.

Anyways it got boring as well, very overpowered couple leaving you no sense of expectation or anticipation. Everything just became too easy to guess. Therefore boring. I reached a point and was skipping like 10 chapters in a go. And still I felt like I've missed nothing.

I was so annoyed by the lack of privacy in... more>> the live shows.

Everything after that just became silly and predictable and boring. <<less

4.67 stars from me!

First make sure to read the KnoxT translation as the alternative is an unedited MTL that is painful to read.

Just an incredibly sweet couple but I really enjoyed the nuances to their characters and relationship.

Some notes people may care about:

  • This takes place in a fictional/AU China where homosexuality is legal and marriage is allowed but it's not fully accepted and there is h*mophobia from some people.
  • It's a bit unclear but after reading the entire novel I will say this is actually a regression story not an isekai. Although Suisui mentions a novel a couple of times, it always in relation to being cannon fodder and he never talks about the content of the alleged novel. He talks about his past life using novel terms but never goes into details of what happens in said novel. This makes me believe that it's being used metaphorically and that he didn't literally believe his past life was a novel. Our MC is somewhat depressed at times and also very romantic. In his mind, IF life was a novel, he was cannon fodder and A Ran was the MC with Fu being his ML. That's how he perceives the world and as we can see from An Rans POV that it is not totally correct
    Spoiler

From An Ran, we learn that he also was reborn with his memories and is also trying to fix his past mistakes because he was never successful with Mr. Fu in the past and ended up married to a shady businessman.

    [collapse]
With this additional information we can see that Suisui only remembers his version of events rather than an actual novel. This is critical to the next point.
  • ML is Mr. Fu and is the ML from the original timeline however as you read further it is clarified that A Ran who Suisui portrays as the original main character and Mr. Fu never got together in either life.
Suisui is just an all around good human being that goes above and beyond even with practical strangers but he has his limits and is quick to cut off those that haven't been kind to him and his. He is not the type of character to get into dangerous situations because of trusting the wrong people or not listening to advice. For instance, he needs to go to his old house to get stuff but knows he may encounter his ex-brother. Instead of sneaking in alone, he puts on a camera and mic and has his real brother on alert outside.
Spoiler

Similarly, when he is drugged by a colleague, even after the man apologizes and shows that he didn't mean harm, Suisui is unwilling to work near him as he put him at risk. He doesn't seek revenge but he draws a clear line and refuses a contract if it means collaboration.

[collapse]

Also I love the ML. At first, he is teasing Suisui because it's interesting. After Suisui confesses he realizes his feelings and that teasing very clearly shifts to flirting. After they become a couple, ML is still the same person but he is so considerate and sincere with Suisui that is makes you kick your feet. Especially in the final filming of the show.

Spoiler

The proposal scene was probably one of my favorites to read and it just felt so right for the characters and how they met.

[collapse]

There are a few reasons this isn't a straightforward 5 star read but they are very small plot holes that didn't impact the overall joy I felt reading this:

    • Why did ML go to the rice shop in the first place?
    • We know that Shuishui gets exposed as a super fan but I would have liked ML's POV realizing that the fan he cherished was our MC.
    • There was also a lot of subtext between Shengchen and another contestant that never got clarified. Why did Shengchen not like him and why was it so one sided?
    • Finally, we saw small moments of regret from the Jian family, but I feel like they never realized how much they undervalued Sui. All their regrets were mostly for themselves but everytime they realized something he did for them that they didn't appreciate, I waited for their moment of clarity but it never came. Up until the end in their minds he was useless and mean. Maybe that's why they are the villains.
I was really hoping some of this would be addressed in the extras but all in all this was such a beautiful story. I highly recommend.

It is another typical cute BL with a lot of family fluff. I love all the characters in this book, and I don't really have any complaints because I had low expectations. I also just wanted to binge something from the showbiz tag, so here I am. Worth Reading if you want a brainless but cute story for a past time.

Criticisms: Just that they dragged out the variety show thing for so long I got really bored. It took up practically majority of the story. And I want more Shen... more>> family interactions, but I barely got any.

Now I am craving a story with a ghost with the number of times ghosts were mentioned in this story. <<less

This is the Mcdonald’s meal you’re craving at 1am

The minute I saw the tags & read the synopsis, I immediately opened up the first chapter in a new tab. Bad reviews or not, I didn’t care—I was craving a showbiz novel that could literally deprive me of brain cells & I got it!

This review shouldn’t even be counted. Objectively speaking, the synopsis is bland, the writing is mid, the ending rushed. Originally, I’d give it three stars but I tend to enjoy reading plots like these. Who wouldn’t want... more>> to marry their idol? The moments I do melt for are definitely centered around MC’s real family interactions. It’s so endearing & I just die for fluffy family love. I love black bellied MLs too, so that was icing on the cake for me since ML was my type indeed. The romance is cute; I feel that there are A LOT of similar novels with better writing & execution, so you don’t need to settle for this one in particular. ML teasing MC makes me so single. There were a lot of missing details though; I can’t even shrug them off. They’re that apparent.

But if you know what you’re going into, then rest assured, it’s exactly what you think it is. <<less

A naïve cellulose chickflick about a love-hungry crybaby and an ML who comes with a room temperature control function. Beyond assembling character descriptions and dialogues from cringey stock sentences, the authorial voice also likes to gush soulfully about the MC freaking out over every trivial setback. It's fine mead for people who need such narratives to lend dignity to their own unworthy feelings, but others may find it dull after a few rounds, and those who enjoy quality will note that CAPS, exclamation marks, and fawning are not good replacements... more>> for actual depth or solid prose. 2 stars. <<less

I really enjoyed the MC in this story.

He's definitely super relateable, has low self-esteem, works really hard, but doesn't wallow in his pain. Overall great characterization and the song lyrics were very emotional.

The tension in the story was very immersive, the pacing and other elements were done really well in the first part, but the latter half started to drag a bit too much.

The ML is super stereotypical, very doting / teasing / cold / oppressive / CEO / OP ML type. Not my favorite, but whatever, in this case,... more>> there was marginal reason that he kind of had to be someone oppressive in order to break through the MC's self-doubt and sad shell.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings. I enjoyed this story so much in the early parts, but the wrap up and villains just became too brainless and I'm honestly surprised that there were so many plot holes that didn't get proper conclusion. There was no enlightenment from the villains, they just continue to be dumb to the end.

The author could have done a better job with the main conflict (which was the main reason why the story started to drag).

Anyway, overall not a bad read if you're looking for entertainment/showbiz novel. <<less
