Before her rebirth, Wei Luo was an innocent little girl.

After rebirth, she appeared lovable on the outside but was a different person on the inside.

Those who learned of her true nature yielded to her.

Only the prince regent regarded her as a treasure; no matter how much he pampered her, it was not enough for him.

Anything she wanted, he gave her, including the princess position that she didn’t want, which he stubbornly pushed onto her.

This is a pretty good novel deserving at least 4 star if the other would just remember the time period. Everything after is my rant about some obvious bias other have.

Spoiler
  1. Li Song can bite a fat one, why would anyone like him is beyond me. The previous timeline aside, this timeline he still became a bully in his younger year which is not too bad of a start since he was just a kid, but then even after timeskip he still hold hostility against MC and only change his mind after seeing how pretty she is. Then he try to cover up a mu*der attempt, then he turn into an alcoholic and almost force himself on the MC. Even in the dream world where he met the previous timeline MC, he is still a creep who literally force himself on her this time and his fan still has the gall to call this a nice end.
  2. The matter of ML being a lo*icon is also a weird thing to say, I'm not saying he is not being too invasive, but a lo*icon he is not. He became interest in MC for her maturity and intellegent beyond her year. During her entire her childhood he has not make a single s*xual advance to MC and even thinking about finding a good husband for her later which is clearly the sign that he is acting like an overprotective brother at this point in time. Then at some point it turn into love, but he still make no s*xual advance toward her. His first advance toward her was after knowing that she has become an adult. Remember that 20 is call too old to marry in this time period, and 15 is the optimal range for marriage and having children.
  3. On the note of the time period, people get uncomfortable with ML and MC age gap romance where MC is too young is also bias. The time period being what it is, child birth is a literal life and death situation and the earlier you have children the better is the norm. Then the matter of s*avery, owner who has literal right over the life and death of servants, father who can take child away from his mother, dog fight, polygamy and so on is also present, but why was so little people who get uncomfortable with that in the review? And where are the people who concern about the little princess and her guard who also has a significant age gap.
  4. Then the MC's hate toward almost every other person that do her wrong in the previous timeline. She has every right to hate them, she was kill when she was only 15 and her family has every horrible thing possible done to them. After rebirth she got her revenge and then live her life normally, but still remember her hatred and that is fine, she don't have to change her mind. Why would she has to after Li Song being an ass in his younger year, then after seeing him in the festival he is too busy dazing in her beauty to notice how he was touching her inappropriately.
  5. The pinnacle of bias is when they hate how the MC is being a manipulative and evil while knowing that the story is literally a revenge story in the early chapter.
[collapse]

I could say more but let go on with the review.

Story and World building: 4.5/5, portraying a really good picture of an Ancient China country.

Character and Development: 3/5, not the worst but could be so much better. MC and ML is ahead of the other so much in term of character the other feel really bland. And even MC and ML is a little one track mind sometime.

Plot: 3.5/5, not too much drama but also not enough story to go around.

Translation: 5/5, even has picture and explanation for every foreign term you find.

Overall a great story 4/5. As long as you remember to keep in mind the story setting and time period, this will be good read. Highly recommend. <<less

ya know what, seeing this novel really takes me back... like wayyyyy back.

almost as far back as Wei Luo's age when she first met Zhao Jie. bad joke? not as bad as their age gap, but I digress. 4 stars for this book is kinda pushing it for me, but I do appreciate the translator and there are some parts that I don't totally hate. like the twins not instantly forgiving their mom. I wouldn't.

problem number one is obviously the age gap. I know, I know it was normal back... more>> then and like the norm, but THAT DOESN'T MAKE ME FEEL ANY BETTER DURING THE S*X SCENES. PERIOD. (get it lol period... I'll stop)

number two is... Wei Luo's character. the problem, per say, is that there's not a lot of it. like, how the author focuses so much on her ~beauty~ that I almost forgot how unbelievably cruel she is. like OP, I've been around. I've read some things, I'm aware of the harsh but historically accurate punishments but Wei Luo is a little too much. the author does focus on how Wei Luo is 'giving them what they deserve' but man it's kinda painful to read.

problem number three is the relationship between Wei Luo and Zhao Jie. I'm not loving it, and by 'not' I mean that Zhao Jie is psychotic but who am I to judge right? all males are overly possessive men who marry child brides and then literally ravage them s*xually. o_O~

but like I still gave it 4 stars cause like yolo or whatever

I really enjoyed this novel. I've actually reread it a couple times. Transmigration/Rebirth are my favorite type of chinese novel genre. I think what makes this novel such an enjoyable read is that I prefer the MC to be pampered. Even though the ML is a bit older, I didn't mind as much. I love that he is devoted to 1 person.

I know there are some shortcomings of the male lead and female lead, but nobody is perfect. The story is detailed and light heartened. The plot stands in ancient China.

I can't argue with other readers with Zhao Jie's and Wei Luo's romance because ancient Asia has a tradition of marrying a little to an old man. Compared to that, Zhao Jie is only 9 years older than Wei Luo. In ancient times in Asia, romance bloomed before a girl turned 6 or 7 properly (heard stories from my grandma and... more>> history teachers). So, base on history, the story has nothing wrong.

I LOVE this novel. I don't know how many times I read it but I'll reread it again and again in the future. <<less

An enjoyable read. I do agree with other reviewers that this is more shoujo than josei. It's a shorter read than usual C-Novels, which is nice. The plot is quite simple to follow, 1st half is focused on MC's revenge when handling members of the family/changing her life, 2nd half is more focused on her romance with the ML. There's not much political scheming or action.

I understand some people's concerns for the age gap, but I don't recall ML doing anything inappropriate to MC while she was young. He only... more>> started pursuing her when she reached "marriageable" age according to ancient standards I kinda just accepted it as it is. <<less

Beware! Throw your logic when you read this novel. How come a 12 yo kids can scheme using aphrodisiac to steal her step sister fiance? It doesnt make sense!! I dont think 12yo kids know what the use of aphrodisiac yet.

This novel is full of doting and fluffy scene from ML and MC. Throw your logic that the fluffy scene happen when FL only 13yo!!!

MC is very annoying to death. She is very cruel. She can stab someone who appear to love her without a guilty conscience. I really hate... more>> her.

The MC is not smart. The only redeeming point is her beautiful face. She is just cunning, heartless. And too attach with her previous live. I think villain role suit her best.

It also has inconsistent story line

Spoiler

1. She appear to have an allergic to fur animal, but there is a scene when she met the ML and play with the kitten without showing allergic symptom

2. She died at 16yo, and she had a stepbrother (8yo) who already become a s*umbag with no future. I mean 8 yo?

I really dont know how this novel can have a good rating. <<less

So first starting out, it wasn't bad, but as you read along there are things here and there that make you c*ck your head because something seems off. The gist of the novel and plot line isn't bad. It's about a girl who transmirates to her childhood after dying an unjustly death.

It starts off with her being a 6 year old meeting the ML who's 9 years older already interested in her. Throughout the story I felt like the author had a need to constantly remind us of how young... more>> she is, but also reminding us constantly of how beautiful she is too. To paraphrase: MC is super beautiful with white teeth, shiny black hair, skin as white as snow, she just had her period, and her breasts are super sore because SHE'S 13. DON'T FORGET SHE'S 13 AND VERY VERY YOUNG. Who looks at a 13 year old with her breasts barely growing in, has her first period, and thinks "damn, she's f***kable now!"?? ML, that's who! Even after she gave birth, why was there a need to include "her body still looked like a TEENAGER that hadn't given birth yet."

I didn't like how her twin brother was practically in love with her? Why was there a need for that? Could have given him some development in the later half of the story that because he didn't have a mom, he projected onto MC, but all that was was just familial love and not romantic interest?

The other love interest Li Song, was an awful person, with an awful sister, and had MC's sister gang r*ped multiple times because she tricked him into having s*x with her. But it's okay because he's in love with the MC so here's a side story of how it would turn out if he ended up with the MC.

I didn't like ML or MC's personalities. All in all, it was an okay story. I guess you could read it to past time. <<less

Well... what can I say.. The story was beautiful and great but only on the first half. The second half somehow was kind of boring but cute because of the fluffiness. This may have something to do with how it was written by the author. The story was kind of mostly narrated and I did not connect well with how things were going on. Like I knew it was happening but I did not feel it happen.

This is a great read. There wasn't any political conflict, it was just full of Fluff and romance with a couple of problems and tears here and there. The most amazing thing is that the characters are not a 1 dimensional thing that only have one emotion throughout the novel. There really want any villain in this novel (Except a certain prince, but he was mostly in the background) The Reincarnation plot would become a long distant dream about a couple dozen chapters.

Yall I just wanna say that Gao DanYang is really pitiful, and also Song Hui too! Gao Danyang's story reminds me of a certain book with the villainess as a protagonist (The villainess' dark side, you really need to read it???) She was suppose to be married to a prince she was in love with, all people around her says so. But then this girl comes along and all your dreams are shattered. And then the last straw us being married of to a far away place! I think Empress Chen is wrong on that one. Then there's Song Hui, just waiting to marry your childhood sweetheart, but then that sweetheart turns into a th**ny rose that wants to end your engagement just after your parents discussed it! Wei Luo was so wrong on that.

Okay, first of all, this book is far better than any books i've read (the translator did a great job). I usually have high expectations for books with good summary and this book checked all of my lists for a good book. Though some of the circumstances in the story did not make sense and sometimes, I, myself felt it's a little creepy on the Male lead's infatuation towards the MC but it's not a turn off at all. Just finished reading this novel and I thought that this novel was overall good and quite satisfying. It was quite interesting to see how the MC's actions would alter the course of destiny in her second chance of life. I was happy that she ended up with the ML since I quite shipped them right off the bat and hoped it wasn't a misleading scene to lead the readers astray with who the ML was. I only have a few complaints that would be put in the spoiler as my... more>> complaints contained spoilers, obviously, lol.

Spoiler

Most of my complaints involved MC's family members.

    • Wei Zheng - When Wei Luo returned to her past, Wei Zheng was only five and I think if she was raised well by someone else, let say, Qin-shi (the Fourth Madam), I'm sure she wouldn't have turned out the way she was. She had chances and time to change, but the author decided to go with her growing up as a bad girl and had Wei Luo take a revenge for what Wei Zheng did in her first life.
I feel like it was natural for Wei Zheng to grow up like that since she had to see her mother getting abandoned and her father sort of neglected her and pampered Wei Luo. She had to experience the bitterness and envy towards Wei Luo since she was a five-year-old, and her mother (Du-shi) also ingrained to her mind that Wei Luo was at fault. So, if Qin-shi were to raise her (as Qin-shi had sons only, but no daughter at all), I bet Wei Zheng might be able to change and who knew if she could turn out to be Wei Luo's ally, and her change of stance would leave Du-shi more bitter instead?
    • Wei Chang Hong - The author left us hanging on Wei Chang Hong (MC's twin brother) 's story. What happened after his interaction with Gao Qing Yang? We never heard anything more, not even in the last chapter where Wei Luo had already had a son and a daughter.
    • Jiang Miao Lan (MC's mother) - I feel bad for her, actually. It was quite understandable why she'd choose to leave without bringing her children. She left without the thought of living. It was mentioned that she wouldn't have had survived if Fu Xing Yun (her new husband, a great doctor) hadn't met her at all. She never thought she would have lived. It was natural for her not to bring her children. Though she went missing for so long and didn't look for her children for so long, which was her fault...
But I still feel that Wei Kun (MC's father) had more blames to shoulder. It was stated that Wei Kun sometimes got drunk and treated Du-shi as Jiang Miao Lan, igniting JML's jealousy. Plus, Wei Kun's brother that had a crush on JML also lied to JML, and Wei Kun saw JML and his brother being close and became mad, blaming JML and saying harsh words to her. It was his fault that JML left. Then, he still took Du-shi as his wife and that was how Du-shi managed to harm Ah Luo in her first life. If only Wei Kun talked nicely back then, or if Wei Kun hadn't been kind to Du-shi, I believe JML would have stayed as a good mother.

... Also, let's not mention the Old Madame of Duke Ying (Wei Kun's mother) who sought Du-shi and offered her to become Wei Kun's concubine because she wasn't satisfied with JML's ordinary background. But what did Wei Kun and Old Madame get? They got nothing. Wei Luo was in good terms with them, and she was quite affectionate with her father. Let's not mention that JML almost died giving birth to her and Chang Hong, and that she had to suffer scars in her uterus and thus not being able to have any more child. I just felt like it wasn't fair for her, when she was also a victim. Wei Luo's treatment of her was too harsh.

[collapse]

That's only my opinion, though. And overall, it was a good story and I'd recommend you to read it if you feel like it's your cup of tea. <<less

This story was interesting but I was stuck between giving it a 3 or a 4. There was a lot I liked the whole part where she was a child was really sweet some people are saying he was a pe*vert but he wasn't romantically interested in her when she was a child he even thought about finding her a better marriage when she was older so it's not like he was waiting to swoop in. He doted on her like a big brother he wanted to be around her... more>> because she was interesting and pitiful. My problem was with after the romance started he started getting unwarranted jealousy and for a while it was just borderline s*xual assault/r*pe. I say borderline only because she is a character that I believe would bite his tong right off if she was opposed to it enough to do so. I would say he started treating her better by the end but all in all I'm a bit disappointed with where his character went... changed my mind I should have given it a 3 after all lol. <<less

It's very interesting how the author developed the characters as though they are real people, a bundle of emotions that act because of their circumstances. Thus I couldn't really root for the protagonists nor completely hate the antagonists, they're not black and white, and the actions seem more understandable.

If anything, I found the FL and ML to be quite hateful...

But nevertheless their romance is very much interesting to be followed.

It's just that, most of the characters seem to have similar tempraments, tend to react extremely everytime they felt wronged. The... more>> people with timid tempraments such as Song Hui just never made it to the stage. Everyone is so... extreme.

Spoiler

The author also gave a short story on Li Song in the alternate universe where he eventually marry Wei Luo. It healed my broken heart--Li Song was so miserable in the main story because he was involved with FL-ML and their extreme acts (exiled, forced to marry, take blame for almost killing Chang Hong, had his bones broken repeatedly, had his martial abilities lost forever), poor him, and circumstances made him to be the bad guy as well. Gyaaaaahhhhhhh!!!! It's so unfair : ((

If not for the side story, I would've given a lower rating, because the protagonists are just too annoyying to boot : (

I absolutely adore this novel. So far, it has been one of my favourites due to the nature of the relationship between the ML and MC. I will say, towards the end he gets a bit too jealous for a s*upid reason, but otherwise, their interactions are heart-warming. A lot of some of the characters will make you angry, however you'll get the satisfying face-slapping right after. This isn't a story where the MC is highly skilled in martial arts; it's more wits and craftiness for Wei Luo. I'm quite... more>> sad it has been completed, but the ending was super cute and satisfactory. <<less

Spoiler

There was some unnecessary cruelness to minor characters, very dubious consent, and Wei Luo (MC) is narcissistic and becomes annoying towards the end.

There are definitely unfinished storyline. It dedicated several scenes to Gao Qing Yang and Wei Chang Hong and doesn't even follow up. It left us the readers hanging.

For a reincarnation novel, it is a disappointment to see such a weak female lead. She claimed to be ruthless to whoever would do her wrong, but after dealing with the stepmother. And dealing with a couple minor characters Wei Luo worried more about her looks. It was disheartening to see her from having so much conviction to act out against the concubine mother and stabbing people with a hairpin to being so self absorbed and focused on ways to beautify herself.

The main redeeming point was the male lead who was so sweet and doting towards her although it was very questionable since she was so young at the start of the novel. However, even though there are moments where she acts stubborn, for the most part she is subservient to him. He shoulders most of the responsibilities, shelters her, and spoils her. As sweet as he was, it felt a bit lacking.

Regarding Li Song

Spoiler

I cannot believe the author dedicated a chapter to him! Even though it was a unique idea to have him save Wei Luo in the oriig AL timeline, he was such a bad guy!!! Yes we were the tiniest bit sympathetic since he yearned for Wei Luo but he never did anything worth of her in the alternate timeline! He drugged and led to the downfall of WL twin brother in the original timeline. In the alternate timeline, she was someone who ignored him which led him to being obsessed over her. He also willingly let his wife be repeatedly r*ped. Even though Wei Sheng was devious, I hate the usage of r*pe to crush female characters. I wished this extra chapter would have been dedicated to Wei Luo's brother and his romance.

[collapse]

If you came for a strong female character, face slaps and revenge, avoid. This is more of a slice of life and seeing how an ancient Chinese female character beautifies herself and most of the time she is lazily reclining in bed, being carried around, or ordering people around.

As someone who loves food, I appreciate the photos placed in translations as reference. Excellent touch! However there are several sweet moments between the two main leads that are very romantic and definitely warms your heart.

Will definitely check out the translator's new work. <<less

Basically, you'll only be reading for the fluffs. Revenge is satisfactory in a way but it won't be with all that gory detail and basically are quickly settled. Everything is about the MC being able to live the life she wants and she won't suffer any frustrating setbacks at all.

To be honest, I just really really want the mc's twin brother side story. WHY AUTHOR WHYYYYYYYY.

This is the opinion of someone who likes it. Don't get me wrong. I know why you guys hate it. I'm also annoyed by ZJ. The reasons why I like it are..

  1. I'm Li Song's fan. (You gonna love him even if that part is the last special chapter.)
  2. I love most of the side characters. (Go back to your HELL, Li Xiang!! And you too JERK EMPEROR!!)
  3. Some ridiculous fluffyness from the main couple (Better turn on Ancient Brain Mode)
  4. Those unfairly cruel scenes torturing the cannon fodders that statisfy my sadistic heart.
I hope you don't take my SM obsession seriously.

I stopped at the time the MC accepts the ML's love. The way she accepted ML and rejected her fiance made me broken-hearted.

Girl, if u don't love him as a man why did u keep him by ur side all of these time?

I love the sibling love between MC and her twin but...

Boy, u can't be more useless than this, can u?

And the way she solves the problems is kind of reckless to me. Whenever she couldn't restrain her emotion, she just vent it out with hairpin. WHAT?! Can't u be ruthless with other way? That's not ruthless nor smart way, that's just venting ur hatred!

Anyway, I gave it three stars for her interaction with ML (at six years old), her kind fiance and best friend, and her care for her twin.

I really want to give this novel four stars, first of all because it's a good story, although a bit safe, but also thanks to the translator. A good translated novel is always a joy to read, but unfortunately it's the author that drags the novel down to three stars.

Spoiler

The author seems to forget that the female lead is a lot older than her fellow peers after reincarnating back to the age of six. Mentally she's supposed to be around 15 years old in the beginning and by chapter 82 she's supposed to be 22 years old, but as a reader I don't feel that matureness at all, no growth (only psychically). Actually I sometimes feel that female lead regress and acts unbelievably immature for her otherwise supposed age. Normally I'm a fan of time skips, especially because the novel isn't very long, but if the author wants to do time skips, at least make sure the characters development follows as well.

Translation: 4.5/5

Plot: 3/5

Characters: 4/5

---

Summary: MC gets done in by evil stepmother and step sister when she is 16, then she wakes up 6 years old, the day before everything started spiraling and changes her life for the better. Attracts the attention and love of a Prince and works towards a happy ending (presumably) while overcoming obstacles.

Spoiler

Thoughts: It's a pretty standard rebirth story, with some light revenge. MC wakes up more jaded with hatred towards the step mother who tried to sell her, and failing that, mu*der her, and failing that (MC survives and fosters with a peasant family that also failed to mu*der her), disfigure her to death (success!). MC is, of course, the prettiest girl around, and overcomes the stepmother's ploys through some clever thinking and a willingness to use violence. Some suspension of disbelief later, the beginning of the story is quiet enjoyable, because the villains are mostly done in by their own arrogance and incompetence and MC gets to play at being an adorable tyke while enjoying the suffering of her enemies. Honestly, thinking back, I went through a lot of chapters and not much excitement happens after the stepmother gets demoted and confined to house. MC just goes about her day being rich and beautiful and smart enough to avoid some standard ploys by stepsister. ML is constantly there to help her out and is super devoted (like a yandere lo*icon with extra intensity and a desire for the throne that's somewhat unmentioned). Definitely more slice of life progresses and full of the 'everyone loves me' syndrome for MC, good at everything/domineering/possessive for the ML, and general incompetence for everyone else. The younger twin brother is regulated to sister complex and somewhat successful c*ck-block, unfortunately. This is the first story to actually make me feel somewhat sympathetic towards the discarded secondary MLs and the stepsister (MC was originally engaged to a pretty decent guy who gets summarily dumped when MC realizes love for ML, and the stepsister is narrow minded and spiteful, but failing at a ploy to get 2nd ML, she loses her v-card to 3rd ML, who's an all around a-hole, and becomes trapped in what looks to be a terrible marriage). The last half is dragging a bit (she's 14 now and finally engaged and with only one potential enemy at the moment) with the introduction of what looks like 4th ML, but will keep reading just to see them finally get married.

Translation is great though, makes it super readable, the added pictures are helpful. Some typos and grammar issues, but ignorable.

[collapse]

Update 1/7/19, alright, finally got around to finishing up the last few chapters, and it just didn't have the same amount of sparkle as before. Don't know if its been too long, been spoiled by better translations and plots, but the last bit was boring and ML seriously started perving on 14 year old MC. Allowances for the time period and setting, but it just got a little much, a lot of rinse and repeat were ML squashes threats to MC and MC doesn't invoke sympathy so much as apathy by that point. Skimmed to end, somewhat disappointing. <<less
