First of all, this is not a story where the cannon fodder chambermaid counterattacks and gives the main wife a beat-down!

I love this author, this is my third favorite novel by this author, the firs one is about the Jin Wang dotes on his concubine, this two are similars, but differents in some aspects, I recommend all the novels by this author, each one is different, each one has a different MC, not all of them are the same, and not all ML are the same.

Finished this novel. I would rate this novel as 3.5. It's actually quite boring, to be honest. Is it realistic? Yes and no. I like Fatty Lou's story, and Jin Wang Dotes on His Concubine more. FL is a concubine for a young master in her past life, got rebirth but still end up as a concubine for ML in her current life. Did not exhibit anything special during rear court drama or in anything, was shielded by the wooden faced ML, they just snu snu, nothing special about their... more>> story. <<less

This is one of the most beautiful, yet chill CN novels i've ever read. It's so hard to find these *sigh* but I think I could compare this to Eight Treasure Trousseau (which is what started me on my journey a long time ago), and it would be pretty fitting

This book does not have dog blood drama. Instead it's a slow and sweet paced romance with a more low key scheming. Though the initial "pressing down" was a I-have-no-choice-but-to-endure and it-hurts (which is really realistic since she is a mere maid and he's the master of the palace and it is ancient China), it slowly builds into something sweet that changes both the cautious female protagonist and the apathetic and 'mute' Prince Jing.

There are super adorable kids involved and all loose ends are tied. The side characters stories are... more>> good (so definitely read till the very end). The ending is totally my type of ending where the author fasts forward to the future where the children grows up and runs though what happens as the years pass. The translation is superb too!

To counter some of the bad reviews:

Some may feel that certain actions taken by the characters are childish or unreasonable but personally I feel that these actions stem from a justifiable place. They are still growing as people and though they have lived two lifetimes, they were ignorant and 'sheltered' in the past. The author also properly explains why certain actions were taken in the story and in the author's notes. The author's notes contains tons of spoilers but the translator does give a warning so beware. A bonus is that some of the characters you meet here will have their own stories *hint Wan Wan, fatty Luo and barbarian Yan* to satisfy your cravings. <<less

Really loved it. One of the reviewer in "chang an's first beauty" recommended this book. She said there is some similarities between these two novels, so right after I finished that book I came here. Story and writing is great, character development is also very realistic.

This is a very down to earth kind of story. Our main character isnt the scheme sort, having already lived a past life scheming and trying to stay on top of others. MCs quest is now to remain alive and content without having to plot or trying to keep herself alive from enemies.

I like this story alot since MC is quite relatable in her motives and needs as the story progress.

However I feel like I need to point out that there is:

1. A ten year old difference between MC and... more>> the male lead.

2. The tagging may have already spoiled it,

but MC gets r*ped by the male lead so if you don't find those stories enjoyable maybe skip this one.

I will say that the story is very based in reality. Ancient times weren't that easy for someone who was a s*ave. Especially if you also were female. I am willing to give this a chance since I do find MC to be a very good main character and who I have found myself enjoying reading about. My thoughts about the male lead will have to wait. <<less

Definitely a good read, really love their interactions except for the fact that the characters get pregnant at a really young age but anyways it's understandable since this was set in ancient times..

The ML is very likeable and the fl. Also the empress is quite pitiful however she brought that up to herself.. I love how Qian-shi got to have her own happy ending as well and all the side characters got to have their sweet moments hehehehe

I like this though I like to say that the name of this doesn’t really suit the storyline. I get the chambermaid but the counterattacks is abit far fetched.

As tagged, this novel is leaning more towards a slice of life + mild smugness ;) In my opinion I like how the characters interact with each other though it’s a bit cheesy and I actually can’t wait to read more side characters backstory from this author.

I feel complicated about this novel. From the title, I expected many face-slapping moment but it turned out, there was barely any. Well, actually the rise of her status itself was the biggest face-slapping moment but she earned it because of ML, not because she had a notable achievement.

I know I shouldn't expect much from MC. She wasn't born noble and it was hard for her to live as a woman in ancient time. And although she was reborn, she still didn't learn much from her previous life, except for... more>> the art of seducing man. It's not that I looked down on her status, but it's understandable that I expect more from her as she was MC in this story.

What makes me more disappointed is after she became ML's favorite concubine, she barely made any move. The story focused more on ML and MC suddenly changed to be some sort of decoration who didn't stand out much. She was just there, became a sensible wife who didn't ask much and readily available when ML "needed" her.

She was usually so understanding and trusting so I find it a bit ridiculous when she suddenly became so unreasonable after ML wanted to leave her briefly. Previously, she told ML that she trusted him wholeheartedly over and over again so why didn't she trust ML at that moment? She should know that ML must have his own reason. And ML was no better than MC. Why couldn't he tell her the truth? It's not like she couldn't understand if he explain to her well.

Things didn't change much after ML became a crown prince and then the emperor. Surely, she managed to have some face-slapping moment but mostly those could happened because ML helped her in the back, not because her own capability. Well, it's debatable though because having manage to obtain a man's heart and make him willingly do anything for you was also a capability. It's also a useful one because in ancient time, married woman relied on her husband.

As for the ending, it's quite satisfying. There were also side stories about the kids and other side characters but I mostly enjoy Ruan Siyi's side story. <<less

FL is 15 years old when she gets with the ML. And by gets I don’t just mean meet and she is also a s*ave so there is that power difference as well. Please be mindful of these facts if that can be triggering

It’s not that huge on politics but is realistic and cute (for me) not toooo fluffy but addicting. I think a review mentioned it’s not transmigration... and #reincarnation but it is for a minor character in this story (lol) honestly I love the main pairings relationship after they are more open with each other ❤️ I really like the lengths ML would go for FL like legit she’s the ONE ❤️❤️❤️

I'm honestly impressed with how realistically awkward the two main characters are. Although they have both lived one lifetime, but their previous lifetimes were honestly living within a bubble. This second chance at life only gave them the advantage of knowing who to not trust again - if they meet new people, they're still in the dark about what to do and how to proceed (so that's why their romance was quite slow to develop). I enjoyed watching their relationship grow - from indifference to a relationship based on wrong... more>> reasons to a truly loving couple. There wasn't heartbreaking drama (or I've become immune to this level of drama), but it was at a good level that didn't seem over-the-top for me. I love the main characters' honesty so that there were little to no misunderstandings; for the most part anyway.

I had fun with this one - several LOL moments and some sad moments. I'd like to reread this in my broken Chinese when I have the time (the translator did an amazing job, but I imagine the original might be a little funnier/punnier). <<less

It's really well written, plot, story. Not so much about characters because I'm dropping this for now. So far the MC is reasonable. She knows her place and know how to avoid her second mistakes. I'm not continuing this cause the writing style is not my cup of tea and how the story go. It's really realistic and good read for you if you want to get to know real ancient china life and relationship.

It was a really neat plot and very well written. But for some such things I can't digest I have to lower one point from my rating. You know what I mean if you read the other reviews.

But overall it's a good story and I'd like to give applause for the author and translator, you've done a good job. Especially the ending was executed well.

I want to read another by this author.

This was actually a good read except for the lengthy childhood intro and events. Some are not really significant.

And the worst here? The extras! Oh em gee.. Why ruin a good novel for mediocre extra chapters! I really hate them! ! ! Grrrr

The story when MC tried to survive was very engaging. Be careful with the author notes though, for those who mind spoilers. Authors tend to spill a lot of infos xD

My favorite part surprisingly was the extra story about Qiao-shi, the hateful 4th madam from the first arc. Ended up shedding some onion tears while reading that part ಥ‿ಥ

I'm finally at ease to write about this novel

It has a very pleasing wrighting and I want to thank the translator a lot for this enjoable experience

I actually don't really like the "slice of life" jenre but this kind of slow pacing writing was very interesting to read even if the story was telling about sweeping or daily matters, it was still enjoable to read somehow.

... more>> I like the heroine. Tho she isn't a transmigrated person and have that traditional views, I still liked to watch her.

She isn't s*upid and can stand up for herself, still I wasn't satisfied about their interactions with the ML

She was r*ped at their first interc**rse and after that he hurted her because of his low skill

I was very angry at that period of time, because it's so traumatic to be treated like this.

And I also thought that that prince Jing (the ML) just didn't took to account her feelings or simply wellbeing.

He also very stiff and I personally don't like when MC have to guess ML's thoughts because he's a F ck ng rock. But that's just the whole idea so... eh, he still isn't that good of a romance target compared to even HIS EUNUCH

Yea, I was more immersed in the chemistry between ML's old eunuch and his old lady in the side story than in the main d mn couple.
