Lian Mu, a modern-day cultivator, failed her tribulation and suffered a backlash. When she woke up, she had been reborn.

By some unfortunate coincidence, she was reborn into the body of a little girl with blocked spiritual roots and not a single coin to her name. The girl had been eliminated from the Gui Xian Sect and was now making a living by sweeping the sect’s stairways.

Lian Mu, who had already perfected her Dao in her previous life: Starting over from scratch? What’s so hard about that?

However, it wasn’t until she re-entered the Gui Xian Sect for the second time that she realized—starting over in this world wasn’t just a matter of experience and skill. What she lacked most was money.

As a sword cultivator, she was so poor that she couldn’t even afford a sword. Worse yet, after reconstructing her body with three spiritual roots, her dantian was damaged, and her body was in terrible condition. She needed specialized alchemists and artifact forgers to help her recover—both of which required a massive amount of money.

In order to continue cultivating while spending as little as possible, she had no choice but to switch professions in secret. She simply taught herself alchemy and artifact forging, becoming entirely self-sufficient.

At first, everyone had this impression of Lian Mu—

Elders: “This sword cultivator disciple is neglecting her proper path and lazing around all day. Truly infuriating.”

Sword cultivator senior brothers: “This three-spiritual-root cultivator is absolutely useless. What can she even do? She’s not even worth taking in as a body cultivator!”

Alchemists: “Can someone tell me why she’s slacking off yet keeps running to our Yinxiang Peak?”

Artifact forgers: “So it’s not just our peak suffering—now I feel better.”

But later—during the Grand Sect Tournament, when high-level demonic beasts went on a rampage, catching the various sects off guard and throwing everyone into chaos—

A single sword cultivator from Gui Xian Sect flew out on a broom with a “whoosh,” talismans in her left hand, a sword in her right, and stomped several demonic beasts to death with just a few kicks.

Everyone: “???”

During another sect tournament, Lian Mu once again found herself alone, isolated with no allies.

The others: She’s finally going to be eliminated this time, right?

Then, they watched in stunned silence as she pulled out a top-grade alchemy furnace and a forging platform, casually refined high-tier pills, and effortlessly repaired top-level spiritual weapons.

The four great sects were shaken: What exactly is this person’s profession!?

When Lian Mu walked out, she spread her hands helplessly and said, “Sorry, I was too poor, so I had to learn a little bit of everything. Even though I can refine pills and forge artifacts, I am still a firm sword cultivator.”

Everyone: “……”

It turned out that some people’s three spiritual roots weren’t just ordinary three spiritual roots but a perfect fusion of three heavenly spiritual roots.

The tone is extremely similar to Smash all Pots and Pans to go to School, though the MC's motivations are quite different. I have 2 issues with the story overall.

  1. The main character's characterization and priorities aren't always consistent. For a sword cultivator, it's odd how little mental energy she spends on that aspect of things at times. She has skill, but often seems to lack passion.
  2. By the current chapter the underlying cultivation rules are relatively unclear, and actual cultivation levels are almost never mentioned.
Otherwise, the story has some ongoing mysteries... more>> (or at least they're mysteries to the main character), a decent pace, and solid bonds forming between the characters. Even though some of the characters are a little one-dimensional. There has been zero romance at this point, so if it does come up it will probably be a while. <<less

4.2 / 5 ⭐

Decided to stop reading it at chapter 147 (half of the story) because I just think it gets more serious and I don't think I want to read it right now.

As far as chapter 147 it's still a fun and pretty good read. At the beginning I thought it was similar to SAPAPTGTS (cultivation version) but at the end of course it's not similar... It's still worth the read if you want to read a fun cultivation book!

The novel is not as simple as the description makes it seem like. It's actually quite serious and the FL is someone who has to work really hard to get everything. Her poverty really made me laugh. Other people get upset that she's so talented, but only she and the readers know it's all because she's poor and had to swing it.

The title makes it sound simple, but definitely more than that. Especially the stories of older generations just break my heart. Those people were once young and full of... more>> passion, but they lost their friends and loved ones. They remind me of Marauders from Harry Potter franchise. They had the talent and courage but lacked the destiny.

Spoiler

Xuan Che, Master Feng, Mei Chengyu and everyone from Penglai Sect just break my heart.

Boring. She just wants to cultivate. That's all.

She's trying hard to be cool. "I just want to cultivate. I don't care about anything else"

I like the plot tho but it could've been better if she has more personality rather than "I wanna look cool so bad and I just want to cultivate. So don't bother me." Also if she has more things to achieve rather than just wants to cultivate. Like what happened after she cultivate on the highest level? If she's stronger than anyone else and then??Maybe this is... more>> just me. I have so much expectations before reading this lol

Anyways, just try reading it and see if you like it <<less

This is a decent story to read when you want to pass the time, but don't take it too seriously because it lacks information and is also inconsistent with the usual progress of a typical cultivation novel. The main protagonist is at the level of ascending to heaven, yet due to failing her heavenly tribulation, she was reborn as a waste with blocked spiritual roots and broken Datian. She doesn't need to go back to the beginning in learning about the information dump for cultivation (Surprisingly, my first time seeing... more>> this because every cultivation novel I read, they dump so much information. This one does not mention any realms and all that complicated stuff.) She needs to repair her spiritual roots and Datian with the help of learning other paths, she can go back to her original strength.

There's a lot of mystery surrounding her, but they gave an explanation reason why she transmigrated to that world. I didn't like the execution of how they wrote this novel, although I generally get the intention of author for their story. Most of it is at a slow pace as she restores herself with her adventures of collecting materials/getting money, and participation in the Immortal Sect Tournament. However, the plot was rushed through in the remaining chapters.

Lian Mu is focused on repairing herself by learning alchemy in pills and weapon making. She often forgets to come to her classes and train with her sword. People think she's lazy and lacks passion, but the girl is too poor to care about them; she only focuses on herself. She causes trouble for others, and many people don't like her; even so, she has her friends by her side. She's powerful and knows her limits, but since she has finally accomplished her goals, she doesn't hesitate and is ruthless.

For the romance, I find it funny how MC and the ML have reverse roles. In a typical Chinese romance novel, the female protagonist is a precious cabbage raised by the family, and they refuse to have a pig (male lead) come to eat her (trying to woo the girl). In this story, the ML is the cabbage they had grown in their yard, and the MC is the thief who didn't cherish the cabbage she stole. She acts like a hooligan, which is so hilarious. She often tricks the ML, lies, and doesn't trust him. She used him, but she did feel guilty, and they compromised. The ML is a big, gentle guy who is a crybaby and is scared of being abandoned by her. I'm glad he is not the typical cold and rude ML. I'm so done with them. It's both a late romance and a romantic subplot trope.

Who is the ML?

Spoiler

Ying You, the number sword cultivator in his sect. He is her sword in her previous life, Changsheng, who reincarnated as a human (Ying You) in this world. My second time seeing an ML who is a weapon/artifact, not a demon lord or just plainly a cultivator
