There is a very strange restaurant in the City of Sin.

Elves and dwarves must share a table, orcs are strangely well behaved, dragons are only welcomed on the small square in front of the restaurant, and the demons must bring their own stool.

This strange restaurant with their strange rules continuous to attract a long line of customers.

“This place serves the best food! The chef of this restaurant is a genius!” Some of the guests in the restaurant left glowing reviews. But these guests have a word of warning for other guests, “No matter what you do, never, never attempt to kidnap the boss or try to ‘eat and run’. You will die.”

A cute little girl stood near the door, and demanded in her tiny voice, “You have eaten the food, now pay up, or I will beat you to death.” The five-meter tall dragon suddenly felt a chill running up its spine.

It is acceptable. But as some people have pointed out this is a very slow paced novel. Typically when I have time I'll binge read all day, but I was sick of this by chapter 70. Not because the writing itself is awful, the characters are unbearable, or anything like that...

Imagine a slice of life story like Chii's Sweet Home, Yotsubato, or some thing like that. Now tar it with awkward jokes. Take the cute character and make her a little bit malicious and a little bit spoiled (just enough to make you raise an eyebrow). And the protagonist is just so 'meh.' Neither his background on Earth as a trust fund as*hole food critic nor his otherworld background as a crippled legendary warrior matter as of chapter 105. And he is not even a real chef. The cooking is completely behind the scenes to the point that it is easier to look at Mike the MC as a vending machine. Insert 600 coins get fried rice.

There is a random cooking system (which has more personality than most), but why does it want to make the main character into a God of Cookery? There is a whole town we've barely explored. There are characters that do little more than eat and leave, maybe dropping a few nice bits of world building exposition. There's magic, math, history, and ongoing battles, but we've yet to see how the affect the characters. There is a "isekai restaurant" vibe going on, but it is like a second rate version compared to the Japanese web/light novels.

Since the story fails at the slice-of-life idyllic pace, the reader can only look towards the tradition conflict-climax-resolution formula for entertainment. However, we're still at the exposition phase.

The story has built up spotty foundation, but what it does with that foundation is still up in the air. But honestly, I think it is leaning more towards a "flop."

Quite similar to godly stay home dad. Its an amazing slice of life novel and soo fluffy.

Not giving 5 stars because while reading this godly stay home dad comes into mind and I don't get the feel which got reading the other novel but don't get me wrong it's an amazing story.

Just the system isn't systematic and I just don't see any food p*rn. I just don't get the complete satisfaction while I read this

A nice and fluffy storyline I really like the pacing of the story.

And a major plus point for this novel is that there is no harem.

Already caught up with the raws and the story is getting better and better!

Read this, not Gourmet Food Supplier.

Let's get the negatives out of the way: Slow burn, jumping plotlines, and you can probably read every other chapter and still get the plot.

Classic Face-slapping protagonist, but now with a cute daughter he has to take care of. This immediately changes the character dynamic and enriches the inherent interactions. There are some flashes of Uchi Musume here and there, but more often than not it's closer to Heavenly Star with more surface level relations, and cuter funny moments.

But that's standard. We all know that... more>> this is what a Chinese Webnovel is about.

It's the Banter and the Worldbuilding that grabs you and keeps you there. Ever wanted to read a story that's basically a Snark-a-thon and where the High-And-Mighty MC gets to head-desk thanks to an uncooperative System? Ever want to see a snarky MC also eat sh*t from his family and the System or even general circumstance? Ever want to see face-slapping done by itty-bitty children? All set in a fantasy world with intrigue and an MC that basically has Amnesia but has to pretend he know's what's going on?

If you said Yes to all of those questions, Bad news - this story gets 80% of the way there but then fails to deliver on the whole package. But if you're desperate for this kind of story, or are ok with not having the ideal exemplar of such ideas, this is a VERY fun story to follow. However, I suggest binging on this story, and not following chapter by chapter, as the chapters are extremely short and it has the traditional face-slapping novel problem of taking forever to "Savor" each scene.

Also, the RAW updates 2 chapters ata time, so really reading one chapter at a time is pretty excruciating.

This is closer to I'm Really a Superstar in tone, but sometimes you can sort of see glimpses of God of Music, if you get what I mean.

Also: Props to the translator Prosperous Food Translations - they actively are adding to the experience and are a GREAT resource for people not knowing the details of the recipes or Chinese food and culture. I highly recommend their translation, as their notes give so much more context for the non-Chinese. <<less

It's basically a clone of all the other "Cooking Mastery" type Chinese novels that have been popping up. While the food being cooked is slightly different, they all basically follow the same tropes. What I like about this series over the others is the addition of the daughter, it adds a cuteness that was missing from the rather bland and blunt personalities initially found in the other cooking novels. The skills that the cook picks up are given a rather blunt plot armor with a temporal warping training space, but... more>> other than that it follows about the same as the others (you can find these others in the recommended novels listing in regards to this series).

Another bonus to this story is that there is an actual story and reason behind why the System is taking control of this person's life instead of just suddenly popping into his life for no reason, so that's a nice little bonus.

Translation quality is nice, release pace is fairly good, and the story quality is decent, which means that this story far outplaces the progenitors of this overused plot. <<less

The story is nice. Some people would say A bit slow, but as far as the story is going it really isn't. For now it's a slice of life story, so don't go expecting young Masters and such popping every which way. Compared to the other similar stories, the MC here has more personality than your average cardboard MC. He comes with an adorable OP daughter as a bouncer. The system starts off the same with the other stories but slowly coming to life. Give it a read if you're... more>> interested in foodgasm stories with a side of fluff. <<less

Actually read it now, I'm a total ret*rd. But yeah... despite the dark backstory of the MC, the novel up to this point's been very light-hearted and cute. No "OP MCs going around messing with noble family this and that" template is always a bonus for me :3
