In his previous life, Mu Yixi, an illegitimate child, was taken back to the Mu family by Mrs Mu. Doing everything possible to deceive her and break her trust, he caused Mu family to shatter into pieces. But in this life, he is truly sincere about being a family.

I LOVE IT, although this may not be for everyone.

Both MC and ML are made for each other, and also all other couples of the story. All of them are unique and weirdly cute in their own ways.

So if u are into rare but so compatible couples with a cruel reality (almost not fluffy), this is story is for u!

I enjoyed this for the most part. I enjoyed the day to day interactions with the siblings and mom a lot, as well as the natural progression of the main CP.

The final hurdle/situated that was dealt with tho...3 of them back to back to back. That was a lot. Then 3rd uncle deciding to stay with the head case had me wondering if the author was alright.

Still, all in all a sweet story that managed to cleanse my palate after going through the ringer with a complicated xianxia story

I like this novel so much!! The rebirth stuff is subtle enough that it's not annoying. The relationships of all of the characters are beautiful. The mother, the sibling, the lover, all wonderful! It's a joy to read.

Also I prefer novels with a strong MC who can take charge in his life in a respectful and loving way. So this is just what I like. The over-saturation of bottom MC's in the Webnovel community is a bit annoying.

hnggg it's generally interesting; highlighting obligations to family, familial love and whatnot. Mc's trauma is also portrayed nicely; he is scheming, controlling, and paranoid.

but I personally don't really like the writing style. Once a character is introduced, you will get several paragraphs detailing their genealogical diagram along with their intercine family conflicts lol.

Eh- I feel kind of weird with how the story flow occured. Maybe it is because of culture difference? I'm getting kind of confused with some others.

Anyway, as of now, my bias is Madame Mu. She is kind but is not easily fooled either. She wants the best of her kids and when she noticed that Mu Yixi put the stolen things on the kid robber, she said that it is alright to protect yourself if others try to harm you. Was great at start, then went into twists and disappointing events when they all grew up. The extras were also lacking and should have been part of main story instead of being extras too.

Overall, I like that the MC played an important role as basically the canon fodder to his brother who he also treasures. I think it’s quite unique that we have a MC who’s an illegitimate child who doesn’t end up being the final boss or strongest person with the best position of power in the end. He’s... more>> still powerful, but not the “main character” in the characters’ worlds. It was refreshing.

MC and ML’s relationship was also not my fav tbh since I think ML deserved better but hey, he chose him. -Shrugs- <<less

The story was pretty good, too much dog blood but not too annoying. The translation is not very good though. May be if a new reader goes to read this they might think the translation was ok, but this was only a little bit better than MTL and many points are unclear as it wasn't translated properly. I even went back and forth chapters thinking I might have missed something only to realise ah the paragraph before was a bit misinterpreted or the characters names were swapped.

This is an interesting story, the characters in it are quite different from other novels. One thing that is quite different is the lack of possessiveness of the characters. The morality of monogamy is also lacking, many relationships are quite messy. Even though it does seem more realistic in real life, if you are looking for a sense of possessiveness in this novel then don't expect much. But it's a story worth reading. So give it a try!

Apparently the MC is reborn as a child and he changes his behavior to atone for the things he did in his past life. Now my problem is with the setting of the plot. Originally the MC's father and his father's wife are the ones who have technically wronged the MC. The MC's mother did exaggerate and lie about what happened but if you think about it it isn't that far from the truth?

The MC's father was a who*e and slept with a lot of women. When he decided to get married for business reasons he got rid of all his flings but the last woman he had been with got pregnant. They say she schemed but it takes two to tango and it would never have happened if the MC's father wasn't hoeing around in the first place. Afterwards the MC's mother went to the father to cause trouble because she was pregnant and he was rich (she went to the wife first but the wife left her to the father). The MC's father tries to force the mother to get an abortion but she escapes and doesn't mess with them again. She leaves the MC with his grandmother and he gets ab*sed terribly.

In my opinion the fault for the terrible mistreatment of the MC as a child lies jointly on his father and mother. The wife of the father bears some responsibility since she was complicit. The MC's father didn't want the MC to threaten his children with his wife and their positions but babes don't be a who*e if you don't want any kids possibly coming out of it AND if you know how crazy the chick you slept with was and she already tried to scheme you once, take the child once it was born! Leaving her with the child let's the child be used against you if she has resentment left over and you can let the child be treated fairly and live a normal life while making sure it never interferes with the children that you actually care about.

I'll try to read it but the fact that he feels the need to atone for his past sins is bearable BUT glossing over the fact that he was indeed treated terribly because he was neglected by both of his parents and left to be ab*sed irritates me. He only went the path he did because he was left to be manipulated by his crazy evil mother and ignoring all the adults in the equation that let that happen is just ergghhhh

Edit: read further and turns out MC's father's wife (so stepmom) Mrs. Mu did not know about the MC being born. After she left the MC's birth mom to the MC's father, after the birth mom came to cause trouble while she was pregnant, Mrs. Mu washed her hands of the situation and paid it no mind. The MC's father definitely knew about him and his living situation though so he can kick rocks

It's an okay story. I had a lot of hopes at the beginning. I loved the step-mom in particular, and the childhood was done pretty well. MC's motivation and emotions were very clear and well done.

Unfortunately, I started to lose interest as they grew older. The romance was okay. I did like how they didn't have him start to have feelings for ML while the other was only 6 years old. I find it sad that that is something I need to say, but seriously, way too many stories start... more>> the romantic feelings at such a young age that it's beyond creepy (especially with one side being mentally adult).

A lot of chapters ended in what felt like the middle of a scene, and the next chapter picked up in a completely new scene. Everything was explained, but the transitions were jarring.

The whole plot revolving around ML's biological parents was just not done well. It came up out of almost no where. With the amount of craziness involved it really needed to have a lot more proper build up to give it any chance of working, especially since it was supposed to be the overriding mastermind plot behind the scenes also. I really couldn't buy the mastermind even being a mastermind. Really, the story would have been stronger with that whole part taken out.

I don't know. Not horrible, but I won't be reading it a second time. <<less

  • WELL overall the MC is very pitiful he got manipulated by his birth mom to turn against his adopted family which is also his fathers family which he got abandoned but the head wife of the family liked children and like adopted MC cos he cute and adorable das right mwahahaha
  • anyways I did not like how the author forced the MC to change his decision to take revenge on tht mu jingruo THT DAD and HIS DAD literally use their own grandkids and kids as chesspieces not even thinking them as human and like throwin out bs like they dont deserve the family das all im sayin and for the kidnapping scene like it was ok but there was NO NEED FOR THE MC to have force to change his plan to get entangled in Mu's family affairs when he CLEARLY was not interested and they treated him so indifferently too so why shld they get someone as perfect as him to be part of their stinky family

Finnally finished this novel. Thank you translator for the regular updates. This novel had MC and ML who were both relatively smart and rich.

The first half focuses on MC's family relationships. Then it was family politics and their romantic relationship. If you are looking for gong MC, tsundere shou, cute family relationships, growth of both MC and ML, relatively quick pacing, then check this one out.

The intricacies of causality around the MC make sense, at first the chapter 20s was a bit boring because the original conflict hadn't started yet, but after that it was quite fun. This story doesn't have deep emotion even though the author repeatedly emphasizes how MC cares for his family but the explanation of the inner conflict is quite shallow, basically it's the same as in the synopsis. The story isn't too heavy, but not too light either. Only regret that the inner fluctuations of MC and ML were not... more>> explored initially so that when the story continued to be the focus of problems involving MC and ML's feelings, it felt less about my heart to be very hurt.

I struggled to finish this. Read if you don't mind a surprise psycho yandere side couple

First I was enjoying it, despite how choppy it is. It feels like parts are missing, even mid chapter. I read other stories translated by midnight rambles that didn't have this issue. It is very jarring at times. Not talking about timeskips either.

whole 3 kidnappings and psycho stalker confiner ML bio dad and aware ML adoptive dad pairing is just eugh. In the extras it's revealed adoptive dad knew before they technically met. Barely scratching the surface on this, it's so f*cking gross and egregious...

OK so psycho wants to revenge on MC family, moves next to uncle but falls in love at first sight. Stalks, chases off suitors, and ultimately confines one woman. He has her write letters to uncle about how great a husband he is. They have a kid ML. She runs away and dies and psycho gets uncle to adopt the kid that's 3 or so. ML runs off to MC house at 6 and stays for over a decade and during that is when psycho and adoptive meet.

Lastly, extras are just that. I shouldn't have to read them to find out how the revenge plot ends. And it was a fizzle compared to how much it was talked about.

I can't even remember what I was enjoying before it went bat sh*t at the end.

After a few days thought-

MC may not have started from a place of love, but he genuinely deeply cared for years by the end. It made me sad thinking that his family don't really reflect that back to him.

MCs father using MCs siblings' future as hostage is so gross. Don't think it's an empty threat, dude's all about business and the bigger family. The brother finds out shortly before the father gets hurt and it just never gets addressed.

MC still ends up working for his family and can't do anything to these people who were using him as a pawn because his loved ones love them. Even the big bad. <<less

MC and ML were literally a perfect match. Despite the rebirth, MC worked towards building a comfortable life for his stepmother and step siblings which was sweet and Mrs Mu, the stepmother is such a hidden ace. I loved the cast overall a peaceful read.

... more>> I liked it enough. Was pretty immersed and engaged with the whole story. Didn't have any point where I wanted to stop so that's good. I liked the MC and how cunning he was. I just wish there were more small clashes where he can show off his smarts and faceslapping haha. There were some parts where the big actions were all done off-screen. But overall, I enjoyed myself.

Short Summary: Reborn MC goes back to when he was six to atone for his previous life's actions of taking down the Mu family by making sure they are happy this time. Along the way, he gets together with a bystander-ish person that he never "won" against. When he is in high school onwards, he also starts to live for himself too. MC is very cunning and smart.

Plot: 3.8/5

The plot was ok I suppose? I do wish we spent more on the school setting and I can see all his interactions and manoeuverings in more detail to take over the school lol. It felt glossed over and we get the aftermath only. Same with the fiance situation. We got a time skip and the beginning of after the time skip was where we find out what he did to overcome the situation. The only big action thing that happened was the kidnapping situation at the end. It was just the ML part after that that started to become a bit too odd. The placement of his deal was after that huge climactic kidnapping. But the MC didn't succeed in doing as much to help the ML as that huge kidnapping situation so that felt odd.

Writing/Translation: 3.46/5

The translation I read is from Iso Hungry Translation from C1-C19. 3.7/5. It was okay, there were some pronoun and name mistakes which made me a bit confused at the start when I was still learning all the different characters and their attitudes. It was getting a bit worse at the end that I was getting annoyed.

The rest I read from MidnightRambles. 3.4

5. This one has a distinct edited MTLflavour. There were noticeable grammar errors. Same with pronoun errors. Lots of confusing sentences. A teeny bit better than pure MTL but the MTL is surprisingly very understandable. It also has the issue of missing text at the end of some chapters. As one of the reviewers said, it is super frustrating. But, this is solved by just opening the raws on Shubaow and checking there if anything is too confusing or for the missing end texts. This wasn't anywhere near a dealbreaker for me. The story is also enjoyable enough and worth the trouble for my taste.

*C35, 38, 39, 47, and 86 have some missing text at the end. I may have forgotten some chapters. Need to go to the raws and Google translate the missing text.

The author's writing as mentioned by another reviewer kind of jumps around. I didn't really find it annoying but I can understand why they did. Many a time did I find myself double-checking if I missed some text when starting a new chapter because the author jumps to the next scene and it sometimes feels like we missed something. But continue reading and usually, it will get explained from context what had happened. Other than this case, unfortunately, the TL did miss the ending text in some chapters so that feeling of missing something is really because we did miss something lol.

Pacing: 3.8/5

As mentioned above, the pacing can feel a bit at the start of a new chapter. I solved it for myself by opening the raws in another tab with Google translate and checking it whenever I felt like I missed something. The author's style of jumping didn't annoy me so that wasn't an issue. Other than the time skip in the middle and the ML background at the end, the pacing was not too bad.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.6/5

It was so-so. I was looking forward to some university setting but that got time skipped. The school and class setting were also not shown. It was all kinda generic so. Just lots of houses and home.

Characters: 3.9/5

I like the characters. The likeable ones were cute and likeable like the family and the others were deep and mysterious. And the antagonists were annoying and their screen time wasn't frustrating.

I like the MC! He was a sympathetic and hardworking character yet also a smart and cunning person. I love the relationships he has with his family. I wish we had more of the sister though. That hard conversation he had with her was so good! I wanted a more badass sister haha.

Romance: 3.8/5

The romance is okay. I like the different dynamic here where the MC who had such a hard life and was so villainous who I thought was the shou is actually the gong. The cool, genius and untouchable ML is the shou. But I didn't feel the ML completely changed character after getting together. I liked that part. The conflict they had was also short-lived. The smut scenes are not explicit here and are very by the way, they did the do.

Giving it 5 stars since the translator did a very great job!

But overall satisfaction rate is 7/10. The title is kind of misleading since the MC isn't relaxing or enjoying much at all he has to work hard to protect everyone lol.

A good, straight forward second chance novel where MC, Mu Yixi, goes back to fix his past mistakes. With knowledge from his past life, he's able to predict the schemes of others and also turn these scheme against them.

Although the general plot outline is predictable, it is an entertaining read. I liked the unusual stepmother treats her stepchild better than the biological father scenario. Mrs. Mu was my favorite character in this novel.
