It was such a nice and lovely story. I especially liked that it was written mostly from his perspective — how he felt and what he thought. I was positively surprised by that and can only support novels that also include the male point of view. It’s just a pity that it was so short and felt a bit rushed toward the end.

This is not a fantasy of a cold clumsy Prince Charming and Cinderella. It's closer to a dark modern take on Beauty and the Beast.

Our female protagonist is an artist who loves music, adventure and beauty. She prioritizes personal freedom after a lifetime of being confined by, defined by and isolated by her lack of hearing. A romantic loss that lingers motivates her desire to distract herself in the fleeting passionate love affair our male protagonist appears to steamroll her into. Make no mistake: she is a willing participant who sees no harm as they have no longterm future. She is also flattered and overjoyed to be seen as a woman first and a deaf person second.

I do feel the writer could spend more time better explaining our FP's past relationship. The half written from her perspective is enlightening. I'm just left with that one question mark into her past and thinking.

Review: The first half is hard to read. The male lead is such an a**hole, and it's hard to sympathize with him at all. However, he definitely does a lot of groveling in the second half. If you are a reader who enjoys watching the male lead squirm and beg for affection, this may be the book for you! The female lead reminds me of a fairy. She has an otherworldly aura about her, and the male lead has a hard time deciphering her thoughts and actions. However, when the author switches to her POV in the second half, we can understand how shaky her world really is. I found it difficult to get through the first half of the novel, but I thought it was an interesting read in the end. <<less

I'm assuming that we are meant to hate the ML (narrator) given how ableist, chauvinistic, and hedonistic he is. How I feel about him is that I really dislike him, but oddly I want to keep reading partly because of that. Idk what that says about me but allow me to explain myself... Once in a while, instead of portraying the handsome and elite ML as being surprisingly kind/clumsy etc. it is kind of interesting to see someone corrupt, self-serving, and easy to understand like how we think of real... more>> corrupt greedy executives. He is exactly the punchable s*um that a reader would hate and want to see the downfall of. That's precisely why I'm here. I want to him to be anxious, confused, upset, and kicked to the curb. Hopefully this isn't like one of those sh*++y overly long manhua where the ML forces himself onto the FL, she gets preggo and runs away and then he chases after her and stays ever the flaming garbage he was at the beginning.

As for the FL, I'm as confused as he here? It's only 3 chapters (ML pov) in so I can't judge that hard but we have no clue why she is going along with this nonchalantly. I hope it's not because she's just that pure and innocent because I'm going to drop a star if that turns out to be true.

Another wonderful read from this translator! If you've ever read My Lady from the same translator, then this would be right up your alley.

This turned out sooo much better than I expected. In the first half I loved the spicy stuff as well as the intensity as well as that anxiety over their unstable relationship mixed with the mystery of their characters. The second half was where all the depth and emotional rollercoaster was at. It was such a ride tbh.

At first I didn't like the ML all that much... more>> cuz he screamed red flag all over but eventually you can't help but fall for him. Both the ML and FL are flawed humans in their own ways in respect on how they grew up in their lives. With ML having to live under the pressure of "having to be perfect and flawless" and with FL living with the struggles of her disability. If you love the hurt/comfort/inner struggles/past trauma tropes this is for you. I love how beautifully our lead's relationship develops, its a lot of stuggles but beautiful nevertheless. You'll definitely not regret reading this, a 10/10 for me. <<less

This story is so beautiful. Let me tell you, don't give up on ML yet when you read the ealier chapters. I know he was horrible and arrogant in those chapters but he would change later. That's what I love about this story: character development. We could see how he tried to change to be a better person for FL.

Meanwhile, FL might appear strong in the beginning but she actually hid her insecurity and inferiority in her heart. She never trully overcame the blow of being a deaf person although... more>> she lived like that all her life. Oftentimes, she chose to run away because she was afraid of being hurt. Fortunately, ML never tired of assuring her over and over again until she could be brave enough to stand by his side.

As for the sm*t, it was quite good and they're plenty of them and this story also had a happy ending. <<less

GIVE THIS A CHANCE

I almost skipped this book because of the one-star top review, but I’m so glad I didn’t! This experience has convinced me to stop relying on top reviews because this story was an absolute gem.

The male lead has one of the best redemption arcs I’ve ever read. Yes, he’s an as*hole in the first 1–10 chapters, but the way the author handled his growth? Chef’s kiss. I melted. I don't want to spoil it but if you like groveling MLs, you'll love this. The story even made... more>> me emotional at times.

I also loved the pacing, it flowed beautifully. Great translation too! This isn’t my first book by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. I picked this up after reading Doppio Senso, and so far, she hasn’t disappointed me. These two books are now among my favorite straight romances.

Actually it's a 2.5 for me, but NU apparently decided on my star rating.

The reason for the rating is that I never felt emotionally invested in the characters or their relationship. I don't understand why the FL chose to have a strangers-with-benefits relationship with the ml. From his POV it seems like she could take him or leave him and yet allowed him to use her and treat her like a thing. Why?

Everyone seems to hate the ml, but I liked him more than the fl. He was an arse,... more>> but it was clearly as a result of how he was brought up, emotional immaturity and self-defense more than just being horrible.

The ML knew there were no feelings between him and his fiance, but the FL didn't know this and still had a s*xual relationship with him. The ML grew up in a world were marriage meant nothing, but she did not and yet never felt bad for being the other woman.

To me the smut was boring since there wasn't feelings behind it. He might have desperately wanted her, but she seemed to just have an opening in her diary so she went with it.

The ML comes off as a super insensitive jerk who is about to get married in business arranged marriage with another heiress with strings attached. However, the ML meets the FL when he confronts her about a wedding arrangement for one of his clients. Coming off at a lost in each confrontation with a deaf woman, he eventually realizes his strange attraction to her.

In the first part of the... more>> story, the ML is really a jerk and mean to the FL with a disability. But because the POV is always from the ML, all you see is that the FL seems to be indifferent and that as a reader you can start feeling that the ML is all bluster.

In the second part of the story, the POV is from the FL. Once you begin to understand the feelings of her insecurities, you can't help falling in love with her and the ML.

Both characters have a lot of depth and you can't help feeling for the both of the main characters. It's a painful journey for the both of them in their search for freedom from all the ties that hold them back from loving freely and finding their happily ever after ending. <<less

I've said this before but I'll say it again, I love strong female characters!!! And the FL in this novel is one despite her disability. She's passionate and successful in her field and has a very chill go with the flow attitude, though her backstory is a bit sad.

I love that both FL and ML are flawed in many different ways which are revealed to the readers in due time. Both are complicated characters and have valid reasons for acting and doing the things they've done in the novel. And... more>> I really like their growth as characters, especially ML.

I agree that ML's actions and thoughts in the first few chapters are discriminating and offensive but it portrays how most able bodied people think of people with disability in real life. And this is one of the reasons why I love this novel because it puts that issue into light and educates the readers that it shouldn't be that way.

And, of course, the smut scenes are hot af and there are a lot. Hahaha all in all the novel is a gem. Thank you translator for translating! <<less

Honestly, I had some reservations too when I read the summary and negative reviews but they were all unfounded. I love this novel. I love how strong and resolute our female lead is and the redemption arc of the ML It’s also refreshing to have the ML’s pov too. I love how she has a backbone. These two are flawed. Their relationship was a train wreck but they were both able to find themselves despite the initial toxicity of their relationship. Excellent translation quality. Kim-paa’s Doppio Sensio is well loved... more>> but I prefer this work over it. It’s just as steamy and the complicated characters are fleshed out. This one is a favourite. <<less

I usually disliked this kind of plot but the author was good in writing flawed/complex characters and their development. Read this with roller-coaster of emotions despite being a short smut novel.

Honestly, Min Seon Jae (ML) was initially the definition of toxic jerk & reddest red flag. He had anger issues, arrogant and crass being disrespectful to others including to FL (who was deaf). I like that Lee Yeon Jung (FL) really good in dealing his non-sense actions and words. I like FL able to give him taste of his medicine... more>> lmao.

The first half of novel were mostly focused on ML's POV while second half (timeskip) was FL's POV.

Separation and time skip was needed for them to grow and "somewhat" heal. I like the growth of ML (he was able to control his bad mouth and anger better). Also, loved that they achieved the freedom (based on their own definition) they both wanted. Furthermore, the leads being able to deal with their own insecurities with FL (as deaf fearing future) and ML (as illegimate kid who kept chasing accomplishment & his dad's approval). I'm very satisfied with the ending.

• At first, I kinda sympathized with ML's fiancee. Both were arranged but he still having affair with other girls (including FL)... initially, I'm sad for her but later on it's better that their marriage was not pursue bc of ML's attitude (prior loving FL), he was toxic. Both will not be happy with both families using each other with ML and her being chess pieces. With ML's breaking engagement, it can be hurtful but it sign that he freed himself from family's shackles.

• Open questions of time skip... Did ML how much FL's suffered due his family? They didn't mention it during reunion.

• ML's still being immature at times (like public jealousy, etc). It understandable bc growth can't happen easily. Him being to change his anger issues kinda good sign now.

• I felt that despite ML being able to better person... he developed abandonment issue and separation trauma after FL left him. His unhealthy clinginess and jealousy became really serious sign of mental problem... even guarding her apartment like dog lmao. At one point, he even threaten FL that he'll unalive himself if breakup or left him. Even his jealousy to men who he deemed interested to FL can't escape his outburst. Well, FL didn't mind it so... I think it's okay hahaha

6/5. The writing feels so real. It doesn’t give sugar-coating to the deplorable sections nor the good sections. The two characters have personality maturation. Every word drives the story. These combination is the reason for the sixth star. Should have stopped at Extra3. Extra4 is sweet but takes the overall tone down to 5/5 again.

It’s painful to read waiting for the shoe to drop, and then watching the shoe falling falling falling... it hurts so hard.

The story was written in mid-2000’s and uses a word which is now offensive. Well, ML uses other words quite offensively too.

ML pov is very well-written and I can empathise with him given his upbringing; I wish he’d had a better nurturing home. I don’t agree with his world view bc it’s quite sociopathic.

The second half of the novel is the redemption arc. Phew. So much more relaxing. ML is happy and MC is rediscovering her willingness to trust him. He was so unhappy in the first arc, and didn’t know how to hold onto the good things in his life. She’s still so insecure though. He’s so freaking cool in the second arc.

It’s tedious how she finds it hard to face her fears, to share her doubts with ML. Really wanted to stop reading there but I’m near the end.

Ah! Satisfying HE.

Extras. ML acknowledges he hasn’t fundamentally changed, just changed his life-goal. He’s still a selfish b@stard but he has more self-awareness now. She’s more confident accepting his love. He’s become so considerate and doting on here, ugh 🙂

It’s kinda hilarious to have s*x as the ultimate move to prove your love; quite juvenile.

I can't praise it enough: this short-novel was an eye opener for me. The drama, romance and smut were so well merged.

Personally, I can get why the bastard behavior of Min SeonJae remained when dealing with Lee YeonJung. It was realistic! That was the personality he developed after being abandoned by his biological mother and being suppressed in the Seo Jin Group's family. It was an upfront to protect himself.

I went on such a rollercoaster witnessing the character growth of both ML and FL in their desperate pursuit of freedom.

Lee YeonJung was burdened by her hearing impairment, but astonishingly she found confort in her career as a professional florist. Unfortunately, in the midst of it, she escaped from her husband Kim Wuju, who was bound to a wheelchair. She figured she was unable to cope with a relationship where both parties had disabilities. What brought a tremor in her silenced world after ditching her marriage, was an unconventional relationship with an engaged man used to playing around with women. Both entered such a toxic relationship expecting to end it at some point when the thrill dissipated... Poor Min SeonJae found himself falling head of heels in love with a deaf woman. It turned out that such alluring and simple moments made them found a haven. And both payed deerly to finally be brought together after ending their affair.
