The most popular girl in class, Yuzu, confessed her feelings to me. Well, it was more along the lines of: “Please pretend to be my boyfriend so I can help sort out the love triangle among the group of normies!” Yuzu always seemed so sweet and innocent during class, but in front of me, she showed her true, self-absorbed and narcissistic side. I should have found it annoying, but somehow…

Best Romance Comedy for me. What I like is:

    • The plot, while not as dramatic, isn't driven by s*upid choices or misunderstandings. I hate when that happens.
    • Male Lead is quite normal and relatable.
    • Female Lead is best girl. She has emotions, but knows to control them instead of being toxic to others. She is sarcastic and plays pranks, but not to the point of being annoying. She is very cute, but it's not one dimensional and she is cute in many different ways.
    • The resolution is satisfying. It's done similar to oregairu perhaps, but the male lead (Maybe he is too competent for a high school student actually?) makes smarter choices which ends up being more cool.
    • There are quite a few original jokes/skits which are funny and creative while also simple. Side stories are all fun to read.
I will say that vol. 2 was not as good as vol. 1 in my opinion. It seemed to have worse pacing and a less interesting resolution. Though the side stories in vol. 2 were very cute.

This was so good I was forced to write my first review.

Regarding the main story, FMC's character is fleshed out pretty well, regarding her motives when she asked MC out and how that would affect her friends. The MC is proactive when he needs to be, and the FMC is very likable, her narcissism plays into some of the comedic parts. Their banter is really great, most of them funny, but some turn really sweet. I am relieved to find out ... more>>
Spoiler

that the MC doesn't have a traumatic past that caused him to shy away from social interactions, that he was actually a riajuu at first, but then chose to enjoy life by himself with his games. I'm a bit iffy about FMC's confession (kinda) not being given a clear answer by MC at end of v1 and not making it official at the end of v2 even though their feelings are obvious to each other,

but I think this will still be a great read going into the the next volumes since their dynamic is very nice

Regarding the side story, among the sugary romance that light/web novels here can offer, this is one of the best to get diabetes, make you go kyaa kyaa as you roll around your bed while reading, and cause you to wish that normies go explode. Seriously, how can they say they're fake lovers while doing all that stuff, what a dumb couple

5/5 would recommend <<less

I found lot of things in the story are cliche. However, it is well written. Personally, I think this is one of the best romcom I ever read.

Out of all the novels I have read, this is by far my most favourite romcom, the plot is played out very well and the characters feel fleshed out.

Spoiler

The end of Vol. 1 was pretty disappointing, but I still have faith that this will become an excellent novel

The character interactions are cute and the fake dating scenario is played well. However, ... more>>
Spoiler

by the end of the first volume, the protagonist is aware that Yuzu wanted to actually date him but never responded to her confession for some reason, even after the fact. There's no reason they shouldn't be actually dating at the end of the first volume except for the romance progression to get dragged out unnecessarily. So while the first volume was good, the ending was a bit disappointing and I'm expecting that it's not going to go anywhere anytime soon

I read the first two chapters completely so far, so I wanted to a give a review of my thoughts so far. It's okay, and I don't love it, but I plan to continue to see how it develops.

Although her reasoning for wanting a fake boyfriend makes sense, I do think some of the extent they go through to fake it is unnecessary and contrived. For example, the date to the basketball area wasn't truly needed, and I think a true fake couple wouldn't bother going out for a day... more>> like that. It's similar with having the literature clubroom be their personal room to meet and plan how to get Yuzu's friends to confess and date - it's not necessary to have a whole room and spend their after-school time in it everyday. They could both just go home, text a plan and be done. It all feels a bit contrived to make them have moments together, especially alone, and artificially build their chemistry. Then you also get moments like her waist conveniently "going out" when she falls on top of him. Yet, she doesn't at least roll over or anything - it's all obviously just to create that scene, and it feels very forced and cheap in my opinion.

I also don't love their banter or Yuzu's routine of being narcissistic, and I find it a bit repetitive.

But despite all these criticisms, I still find it okay. I like that the two are starting to have some shared joys together like the games (even if I find Yuzu's enjoying of that and his manga to be a bit convenient), like that the two are more honest with each other than anything else, and I also like the mix of popular girl with unpopular boy. The writing is also fairly good, and the characterizations are serviceable, though it needs more time to flesh out the characters before I give a final verdict. <<less

id gladly rate it 4.8 one if a best romance ive read its cute its not dull by any means WHICH makes it stand out even more it doesn't lack on small details idk if you can consider this a a fluffy one but it is cute. Its very very VERY interesting and will recommend. The pace of the romance is brilliancy. I hope they would update soon and be completed within a respectable pace so I can buy a thicc ass physical book with all the volumes and read... more>> it again and again. it says there are 2 Vols rn but I cant seem to find the canon ones I only see the SS volumes <<less

The shortest light novel I've ever read (since it only has 3 volumes).

Even though Yamato is seen as an average person, he has his own strength—his leadership skills. Paired with Yuzu, whose strength is more obvious—her sociability—they make a really good match.

The main conflict is minimal, but it's enough for a short light novel like this (most of the content is actually side stories, but each chapter is short).

Totally recommended for anyone looking for a short light novel that won’t take long to finish!

It's peak. I still cannot believe I've found a romcom like this where the story is both developed at a good pace, and given a lot of depth. I especially love how the characters feel like real people. Hopefully the author will eventually write more, because I'd love to read a college arc.

4/5

To sum it up short and sweet. It definitely had a lot of good points the way MC and fMC interact is refreshing. Compared to certain novels I have read fMC sometimes gets annoying and MC are dense or prolongs misunderstanding from unnecessary reasons. The reason give 4/5 is because the side character is underdeveloped or simply rushed which is unavoidable because author couldnt get the vol 4 that they wanted so I understand why these problem arises. And as to why said these the ending was quite the flop... more>> for me just like how MC flopped and fell the stair the ending really left me with a bad taste rather the empty feeling after finishing an good novel but I digress still good read. Really cute and funny story. The first volume is magnificent.

The fake couple creates many hilarious situations when considering the contradictory personalities of the two characters. The hilarious dynamic between them and the fluffiness are also fully exploited in the side stories.

The protagonist, while being a loner, contains a few pleasant surprises.

Volume 2 and 3 were a bit disappointing. The romance regresses for the sake of keeping up the funny gags. And eventually the story becomes melodramatic, even though it clearly did not need to.

I like this novel quite a lot, the characters are fleshed out and the romcom is genuinely amusing. The MC was quite realistic compared to most loner MC's - he's a good middle ground between enjoying personal time and basic human contact, and he doesn't show any unnatural macho moments throughout the novel. He stands up if he needs to, but generally just doesn't meddle. The FL is also quite a nice character, and although the author tried to put in some Hikigaya-like discussion in places the cringe factor outside... more>> of those few conversations is pretty low.

Overall, I highly recommend this work as a casual rom-com. I wish it had a continuation, really, but I suppose 27 side stories kinda wears out my motivation to keep reading. <<less
