In a Mary-Sue novel, the readers all liked the Devil Venerable, the second male lead who devoted himself whole-heartedly to the female lead. However the female lead only loved the male lead who ab*sed her physically and mentally.

Readers: Why doesn’t the female lead like the Devil Venerable?!

Devil Venerable: This Venerable also wants to know. But what I really want to know is why I even like the female lead at all.

(Sorry if my English gets awkward at some parts).

I love the characters, they're so well built-up and are in constant change, reflecting about their past behaviour, questioning why they acted that way or another. Each character is so characteristic, since the author constructed them as it's supposed to be done, so you are able to distinguish them from their dialogue or their little gesture with no need of their name, and that's so satisfying and sad, cause all stories should have well-built characters.

About the plot and the world: more... more>> of the same. The plot is quite original, as it mixes transmigration and reincarnation elements, but resulting in something different and refreshing. I's not the best of the best, but I really enjoyed reading and at no time I got bored: author knew how to devide narration, description and action parts so you don't feel there's too much of any of them.

In conclusion, I really recommend this novel. I was having a hard time finding a story I could be dragged into, when I went across with this one (well, not that I found it all of a sudden, but I had saved it long time ago and this time I decided to read it). I'm in debt with the author, I couldn't stop reading. I was wondering what was going to happen next at all time and had to grab my phone to keep with the story.

Hope you also give it a chance and enjoy it as much as I did! <<less

Keep in mind that this is plot driven --- most focused on xianxia with a subtle BL, so don't expect a lot of snu snu.

The world building, character development, and the execution on how the story flows was execptional! You'll understand that not all evil are truly evil, and good are truly good.

MC and ML are both fleshed out really well. They are strong but have weakness. They are strongwilled but imperfect. Other characters are well written too. I specially adore MC. Him being a 'devil venerable' doesn't hinder his... more>> principle. Although ML does irked me quite a bit but I'm not exactly sure of the reason. It's also great that MC and ML compliments each other.

In conlusion, this is a pleasent read, albeit not my favorite.

A joy to read!!! Both MC and ML are power packed and even our other character leads are too entertaining when they’re thrown into the mix.

Love the comedic undertones and I do think everyone would love this! No sense of yellow scenes so it’s really a good dip into this danmei world

my first non-straight novel, what else can I say except this is a total gold, platinum, or whatever that describe the word masterpiece the most.

Plot 10/10 Self-concious "side" character that is changing the plot little by little, very intriguing

Characters 10/10 My favorite is actually not the MC or ML, but Shu Yanyan, almost all the characters are not what they looked like, and always have hidden persona, definitely not 1st/2nd dimensional characters

Amazing work.

It takes devil and make it not necessarily evil but just one side of the same coin. Right is not without evil, there is no new beginnings without destruction. Love this aspect of the story. So behold amazing villain story!

Another great part is that it takes stallion novels, Mary Sues characters and points out all the illogical things that are there. Wifes and harem, ML getting all the goodies in the world, Mary Sue too good to all others except herself. Our ML takes these inconsistencies and set out... more>> to find out whys. As per the title of the story. And the best of all - he will find the answers to his questions! Brilliant? Brilliant!

And don't let me start about how clever and intelligent the plot is. Smarts, smarts everywhere with crazy plot twists and funny commentary as added bonus!

Minor spoiler about MLs.

The romance is slow burning in this story. MLs are taking their sweet time to comprehend it and when the moment of truth comes, we can see relationship that is true and without toxic aspects that can be found in other stories aka using force or unhealthy obsession mixed with restricting the other person. Yes, there are unhealthy aspects because one ML is a little bit extreme. But they are healing and that's the only really important thing.

Really love it so far!! Just waiting for mourning crow's translation to finish before I continue reading. Kudos to the translator!! I love Polis and Alkaid!!!!! Can't wait to finish readung it and finally give a conclusion to my thoughts on the actual story. For now, I'll just praise the translator.

I’m totally in love with this story!

The world is complete, have good structure and quite logical. During the plot, reader can understand more and more and have an opportunity to continue the whole big puzzle step by step. All explained and all is logical. I love how this world is, how the concepts are.

The writing stile is nice. It never bores you. The same goes for the plot and characters. Translation also very good! Love it. Really love this novel.

Characters are very alive and have each it’s own story and... more>> grows. Especially the main couple. I love their interaction, how they grow together and help each other. There is a drama, but very high quality one. The comedy is very good. I was laughing and crying during read and it was so good.

I’m not sure I ever read such a quality story like this. I want to forget and read it again.

This was a pleasant read!

I was actually searching for a cultivation novel because there seems to be a lot these days which have good reviews but the story doesn't seem quite alright. Anyway, this was a pleasant and comical read. Although there was not any serious plot, the characters were funny especially the side characters. The main couple was kind of cute too but I wish the writer showed more of their backstory and what happens when they find out about their feelings. Regardless, it's a great read for killing... more>> time. Read it with low expectations and you'll feel delighted. <<less

Please appraise this gem, you won't be disappointed. I really admire Wenren È and his principles. I'm not fond of seme protagonists but this one changed my mind. This novel gave me another outlook about cultivation world stories and now I have an even higher standard for cultivation novels. I'm reading mourningcrow's translation, just a personal preference but the two translators have done an impressive job. So kudos to them!

This novel is fantastic. The world building and plot are so exciting and entertaining. And the ending wrap up was excellent. Even the background story seem heavy but the balance of every aspect and all the characters makes this novel so solid and entertaining. The supporting characters especially the devil clan all have their special qualities and they are quite funny. If I go over everything I will type the whole night. This Novel is beyond words, I honestly learn a lot from this Novel, its like a slice of life story with a bit additions of Xianxia genre, I learn a lot from Wen Ren E / Wen RenHe. His portrayal here Chef Kiss cause basically they are like people in our society persecution them a DEVIL, even though They are not really doing Evil stuffs, but meh u know how society treat others that are different from common folks, they get alienate and force to hide.

Overall this Novel is not... more>> your type if you want heavy s*x stuff, this novel only shows light BL only which is sweet in their own way and did not make you wanna vomit due to the heavy theme.

Read This Novel, enjoy the thrill and adventure of Wenren E try to escape from his fate.

I just wanted to say it's a perfect story for me.

My reading was fluid, the characters were charismatic and the main couple gradually discovered their feelings until they got together.

Well I don't have much to add it was a great read to pass the time.

A very light read, with no exact plot or advancement, to the point that it seems short even having 80 chapters in total.

This novel is mainly concentrated on characters, their emotions and relationship.

A romance side is nonexistent. (Well, they do speak about it and express their feelings, but it was done in the last 10 chapters or so q.q)

This book is a gem. This book has very intriguing plot. Out of all the bl novel I read, this one has the most complete world structure. With other books, I used to skip paragraphs, but this book I have read word by word, not wanting to miss anything. All the characters in this book are 3D. We can understand their thought process. I will update this once I complete it.

Well-crafted Xianxia and comedy! It stars an ensemble cast; likable characters are lovable and absolutely fun, despicable characters are still entertaining and contribute a lot to the enjoyment of reading. The romance is moving but the face-slapping of the s*um boyfriend (not part of the main couple) was moving. I enjoyed this book a ton!

Good and quick read! Well, quick for me, at least haha

DVAWK has appeared in the circles I dabble in a couple of times, but I hadn't thought to get into when it did. What finally got me to read it, is that I wanted to read a BL with a seme protagonist lol

I enjoyed the pacing of this story. Even though there are some aspects I wish were expanded on and had more emphasis, I'm satisfied with what's offered. I especially like how the couple's relationship developed :)

Definitely this novel will be going into my rec list! I love how it twisted all the usual danmei tropes and how there's literally no plot hole or unresolved plot line you could see. I don't know how the author could guess my live reactions through the meta reviews in-universe sjdkks

I have to take off one star though for the pacing, I feel like this novel would be even better (it's already good actually as it is) if the author allowed us some breathing time between major plot points. This novel is soooo well thought out and written. There are just so many praiseworthy things about DVAWtK that putting them to words is difficult. All I can say is that this is definitely a must-read danmei, truly one of a kind. It's not so short that it feels rushed but also not drawn out to the point where you'd feel bored.

The female characters are awesome. Every single one of them have their own goals and motivations, making them very compelling characters. They also don't follow typical archetypes found in... more>> danmei so you'll surely find their actions very refreshing. I sure did. Their POVs are also very insightful to read and, in my opinion, are one of the most enjoyable part of the novel. I'm serious when I say I would die for a spin-off based on one of them.

The humor is top-notch. Personally, I find it quite hard to understand a lot of the jokes in danmei due to the language barrier. Like, I would understand why it's funny after reading the tl notes but I wouldn't laugh iykwim cause the timing just wouldn't hit. I feel like the humor in DVAWtK is more situational and relies a lot on reoccurring gags (it feels kinda sitcom-ey), cause of this, the jokes definitely land. This novel is hilarious yet it balances its serious moments with comedic ones very well.

The character development is impeccable. Every character feels like they had the opportunity to grow as people and the process that they go through to make that realization isn't instantaneous. Instead, there's a slow buildup where the author would explain to the reader the character's thought process and what impact that change brought upon them afterwards.

To conclude, DVAWtK is an incredibly easy and enjoyable read that'll def leave you with some deep thoughts afterward. The characters and writing are top-tier and this novel is def super underrated. Read this for CEO of yearning YHJ, man-hating lesbians and lots of oil lamp threats (iykyk). <<less
