In a Mary-Sue novel, the readers all liked the Devil Venerable, the second male lead who devoted himself whole-heartedly to the female lead. However the female lead only loved the male lead who ab*sed her physically and mentally.

Readers: Why doesn’t the female lead like the Devil Venerable?!

Devil Venerable: This Venerable also wants to know. But what I really want to know is why I even like the female lead at all.

In order to understand why the female lead wasn’t attracted to him, the self-conscious Devil Venerable brutally interrogated the entire cast of characters from the novel.

if you are expecting a sweet romance you are wrong here. A little sweet, sorry fighting ;) you can get af the end of the story.

It's a story where the devil venerable get to know his destiny and is trying to fix it. Along the way he discovers a lot of things for witch he was blind in his previews life. And a different point of view can change a situation completely. You will discover that withe is now withe and black is not necessary black.

The wirtten point of view... more>> is sometimes a little heavy to reed but you can't find a boring moments. You get some badass characters, silly/s*upid characters, some face slapping, battle action and funny moment's. <<less

SO SO SOOO GOOD!! I love the character development in this novel. And although it isn't really romance focused, I still enjoyed reading the entire novel. It was funny, heart wrenching and also it makes you use your brain to think about the plot. So its totally not boring and repetitive at all :> Highly recomended hehe.

Definitely not a romance focused novel and I live for it. It’s very unique and nice power/skills building and it doesn’t feel like info-dumping. The two main protagonists tho, ohh boy this two... I swear. This book is the best description for slow burn and action-pron. I LOVE IT! It doesn’t overly feed you with romance sub-plots and just gives you action and highly intellectual fight scenes, back to back to back! I love it very much!

I had a hard time to finish this danmei. It was a good and fun ride though. Yin Hanjiang, what a loyal man you were towards Wenren E. The slow burn romance captured my heart in a second the moment MC realized his true feeling. And even all the side charcaters (mostly Xuanyuan Sect) gonna makes me missing them after this. The cunningness, petty arguements and peak comedy that they were showing lol. Still a good novel and kudos to the translators!

It was amazing. Those are the only words I can really use to summarize how this made me feel. The characters were really expressive and they just behaved in a way that I have never read about before. I also really liked how the heroine ended up in the end. It was overall really good.

HONESTLY, this was a good ass read. I loved this novel and reading it was not a mistake at all. But tbh I wished I read it earlier T-T. When reading it for the first time last year I wasn't really interested because I didn't understand the story depth that much by the summary and so when I first read the first chapter I was pretty confused. Honestly the story is such mwah chef kiss bruhh 😩✨ Tbh I think this was my first time reading a slow burn romance ngl and it was pretty AWESOME. The plot was hella intriguing and kept me reading and me interested in it. Honestly the romance between MC and ML was the spice of the story. If there wasn't romance in this, the story would still be pretty good but its more better with the romance being the spice of it all. Honestly MC and ML relationship is so complicated and is to tied up into multiple of knots. Just when I thought they finally understood each other, there was still more into defining each other's personalities and emotions wirh one another. It didn't have angst and tragedy like 2ha and YuWu but the plot I would say can almost be the same level as it but only almost, not same. After thinking it back the romance wasn't like any other romance I seen. Probably because its my first time reading a slow burn one I didn't felt that much heart ache for the love of MC and ML and all ngl but their dedication towards each others makes me think they are more like platonic soulmate. But the romance still pretty badass to define. They went through life and death together so its understandable for them to bond and be in love with each other. The side characters were pretty well written as well. Each has their own important tole to the plit and is greatly appreciated and used well in the novel. My favorite is definitely Zhongli Qian. He's soo fking smart and wise bruhh wished he was real man. He's a really well written character and I love his development during the story and intelligences. Him being the love counselor for MC and ML is pretty funny to me lol even if it was such a short time.

i also I am sooo glad that the author finally, finally gave Baili Qingmiao who was originally the FL in the book of the world MC and ML was living; finally gave her a redemption.. FINALLY BRUHH I was waiting for her character development. I kept hoping that the author didn't abandon her and let her have character development, forget about the tr*sh original ML and have a chance to redeem herself from her s*upidity.

I also like Protector Qiu's straightforwardness ngl. Pretty refreshing and made me have a couple of laughs lol. Tbh I kidna hoped for more to see ML more true side ngl. But I dis get to see it that much since it was nearing the end of the story. Yk like I kidna wished that ML realized his true self and desires which the author could've been more depth about since most if the time ML sees MC as someone superior as a god and didn't belive he was Worthy in having his live and standing by his side. He only realize when its kinda nearing the end of the story. But I like how the author didn't make the MC OP and invincible in the beginning ngl. I like how the author gives out how even if MC is the strongest in his sect, he still is a human and has weakness and is bound to have deadly injuries occuring. And MC was able to grow stronger as well which is pretty good. Tbh I really got confused on the time skip but I was not expecting like 10 or 30 years skip in the story 💀. Cause like in my mind I was like: after that much years pass aren't the characters gonna grow old and have a old appearance 😭so I was hella confused because I had a slow mind. But after finishing reading it and thinking about it some more I finally understand that they didn't have an old appearance because they are cultivators and so they their appearance would slowly grow to be old and will still have a young appearance because of their powers of being a cultivator. Honestly idk why this thought didn't appear while reading it lol but appeared after. Idk why I also didn't question how MC is 300 years old but aint old and have a good looking appearance lmaoo 😭. It's awesome.

This novel is funny, interesting and refreshing.

I like main characters development. I also like side characters which have different personality and different goals.

Devil Venerable is really strong, but anyway he faced few challenging situations.

Many episodes are funny, yet some scenes are sad and tragic.

The romance is really slow, but I love it this way.

while reading one of the reviews that said "little romance" and "no *** to the end" I had my doubts about reading it. but after I finally wanted to try... oh I never regret reading it. the story is very fresh and interesting... when you read the story you will think to yourself that if there is no romance that's fine too... because the story is very entertaining. and the romance that is given here in my opinion is also enough. As for the characters, I've always disliked the female... more>> characters in danmei novels but this is an exception... some of the female characters here I like because they're so cute. MC and ML are very good, for MC there has been a lot of praise for him in other reviews. and also for ml, ah it appeals to me, he's a bit horror but cute... a few words for the two protagonists of the book in the novel... yes I really hate that hwc, every chapter I read it I just hate it... and for bqm some chapters I'm tired of his brain, but when his real self starts to come back, bqm is actually smart. <<less

Finished it in 4 days, and I must say I'm really satisfied.

It's a really good novel that makes fun of the stereotype Harem male lead and the naive innocent girl that has eyes set only for the Male lead. Though we will see how our protagonist tries to make the female lead give up on him ... more>>

I see many people complaining about this story's romance not being prominent, but I actually find it being shown in the little (kind of) gestures our MC does for the ML and vice versa.

I reccomend it to everyone who searches for well written female characters, not stereotyped one dimensional bl romance and characters' development. <<less

The initial plot was really interesting and unique. I read nonstop until chapter 20. But afterwards, the novel felt like a drag and got kind of boring. I skipped chapters in between but made it towards the end and managed to finished it somehow.

I expected a lot of romance but it's more plot than romance. The romance is towards the middlish endish.

The romance kicks in when the ML thinks the MC is one of his inner demons and doesn't realize he is the real MC. The ML is drunk and kisses him. From then on the MC decides to observe the ML and understand his true personality since the ML always suppresses his true self in front of the MC.

I liked this novel much more than I thought I would honestly! The main characters were really interesting and there were a bunch of plot twists. Wenren E is a clueless idiot in love and Yan Hanjiang would ruin anyone who dares to touch Wenren E in the background. It was fun to read them get their sh*t together and fall in love haha. Excellent story! I would really call this a comedy, with a good amount of gratifyingly easy to follow xianxia and super wholesome romance thrown in. This is a quick read and entirely satisfying. Great for newbies to danmei and expert readers alike. There is really no drawn out angst or dog blood. The plot moves quickly and is extremely entertaining with never a dull moment. The characters all have very distinct personalities and this novel manages to have 3 excellent female characters as well! The romance, though sadly lacking any... more>> explicit details, is incredibly cute and the two leads are stuck together being adorable for most of the novel. Both are very manly and I can see them being a switch couple. Even without the romance though, this book is so funny and entertaining it’s worth a read anyway. This is good for the heart, read this if you need to be uplifted! <<less

i just started this novel but I. LOVE. THE. ML!!!!! And not just because he and I share a name, lmao (which I was extremely and pleasantly surprised by)

Unwavering loyalty yet stubborn! Tries to be strong for his Venerable one despite being a little weak! A protector through and through! Morally gray but slay!

This is a bit random but I was hoping for a novel where the cultivator's sword can take on a human form and this is... pretty much as close as I have ever gotten. ML can... more>> literally turn into swords. And that's hot af

Another detail that I absolutely love is how it uses astrology. MC and ML being compared to Polis and Alkaid stars.. Oml. Also, in those paragraphs about how the ML acted in the OG book. His behavior gave me absolute chills, especially that part about the mask, the author KNOWS how to write their "driven mad" archetypes.

Also, it's so refreshing to see an MC that is strong, mature and a little evil. The author doesn't unnecessarily point out his looks or his body and make ML drool over him. I usually don't really like overpowered characters, but the MC has a great personality to balance it out, he doesn't kill whoever he wants. Despite being a demonic cultivator, he has a strong sense of virtue. This is a man who, despite being the most powerful demon sect leader, has travelled to the mortal world to fight as a foot soldier, then ranks up to general with his own skills and battles while willingly sealing his spiritual energy away. He is clearly more than capable of his position and he knows how to act with so much power.

That being said, the author's writing style is also fleshed out so nicely. The plot so far is great, it's not shallow and filled with silly tropes. The main characters from the OG book (let's call them Protag and FL) may be silly, but it's a sort of justified silly- although I wholeheartedly believe Protag is tr*sh, the FL isn't some one dimensional character. Sure, she's a bit hopeless, but she has a strong sense of justice and is quite capable of herself. I found myself rooting for her... And hoping she ends up with another female side character (hehe).

Additionally, there are very interesting questions raised in the novel so far, and it's hardly been 10 chapters. The reason I keep reading isn't just because of how lovable the characters are, but also the mysteries given. I want to know what MC does with the book, what happens to the FL and Protag's relationship, etc. <<less

Never thought this novel would be this complex emotional and beautiful I thought it would only be funny at most and oh boy how mistaken I was misjudging this great novel. The only regretful part was that we couldn’t really see them being that much lovey-dovey but still amazing the plot the complexity of characters everything is very well designed recommended %100

This is the best thing EVER! I MEAN EVER!

All the characters were so good and relevant that nothing was left unexplained.

This novel has a very different perspective of cultivation, and I love hearing Wenren E's thoughts and deeds. He is unlike some of the brainiest people I've read about but his actions are always on point. And Yin Hanjiang was just pure precious, its best to just read and find out just how awesome they both are.

The story in its essence was the MC leading everything to a better ending... more>> and loved how he made Baili QingMiao into a better version of herself, or better yet the person she was destined to be.

Would have loved to know a little more about what happened after everything was over, but it was very satisfying and fulfilling.

P.S. Right protector Shu, Qiu Conxue, Zhongli Qian, and Su Hai were gold! And it was hilarious how Shu yanyan always thinks about taking over Wenren E. Even being unsatisfied with being left behind by Wenren E and Yin Hanjiang when they leave for the immortal realm.

Easily one of the best novel I have ever read. The characters are gold. Also I really loved both MLs.

The story starts with the devil venerable getting a book with a title that every abusive and toxic webnovel has lol. After reading the book ML is confused about the world and also about himself as he considers himself heartless and couldn't imagine giving his life to save someone else. The book also makes him realize the only person who will always be loyal to himself is Yin Hanjiang so he... more>> starts to focus on him and also tries to understand him.

Then he starts changing the plot entirely from emotionally ab*sed FL to a firm and strong FL. He also tries to find the reasons why all the cannon fodders behave that way to the FL and ML in the original novel because he firmly believes that love cannot make a person behave so irrationally and he was correct at this point. This is also the part I really like the most, ML didn't leave their behavior as it is considering it the halo of the plot but justified it. <<less

It is one of the well written and well translated novel.. Translation by mourningcrow is good, not sure of the other one.

It has story, if you want to read a quirky humour with a well thought out story, this works.

Each character is unique and well developed. It is a good read.

note: If you like over possessive and arrogant president MC and s*upid/naive ML and abusive love relationship with communication issue and some female as villains, then it is not for you. You will definitely find it boring. Because this story... more>> is not about 2 people and rest of the world is there only to make that 2 people fall in love with each other. This book seriously changed my perspective on cultivation novels. At some point I found myself avoiding cuktivation novels because I didn't really get why everyone was trying to acsend, or felt like the different stages of power didnt make sense to me, and most of all, it always felt like everyone had the same powers. Not to say this is true, only that it was my perspective. Now I have a whole new perspective. This book's main couple is firstly amazing, but secindly the supporting cast is all so good... more>> as well, personality and otherwise. The different pathways, as well as the difference between righteous and demonic cultivators finally made sense to me and honestly kind of just shattered my worldview for a moment. To prevent more rambling, I'm trying to say that I 100% recomend this novel to anyone who likes cultivation danmei with good plot and worldbuilding that does the "i didnt know I was in love with you" trope with flying colors <<less

I enjoyed this novel for the most part, especially the first half. The second half was weaker in my opinion. If you are looking for something with decent plot but not too complicated, this is a perfect novel to read inbetween other more complex or heavier novels. The romance was... alright, pretty standard servant-master type of thing with an obssesive servant part. Though I was pleasantly surprised with how a certain point was handled in that aspect. Still, if you are looking for something ground breaking, this ain't it.
