As the apocalypse arrives, Song Ke, who grew up in the abandoned area, unexpectedly awakens her special ability. Within her field of vision, all objects can be transformed into handy spiritual tools with just a thought. She becomes the sharpest blade, now possessing the most flexible scabbard. Wherever she goes, zombies of all kinds cower in fear.

After wandering alone for several days, Song Ke encounters a troublesome man. The man has a broken leg, and speaks weakly as if on the verge of death, yet there’s a smile at the corner of his mouth that is strangely beguiling.

“Little girl, I have nothing to offer you in return. How about offering myself to you?”

Suspiciously eyeing him for a couple of seconds, Song Ke slowly summons her spiritual tool.

“Speak up, how do you want to… die?”

One thing leads to another, and her adventurous path… takes a peculiar turn? She ends up gathering a series of strange teammates.

A year after the apocalypse, a bizarre rumor circulates among the major surviving bases:

It’s said that the top-ranked awakener team “V587” on the scoreboard are all burly and sturdy, capable of frightening children with their bear-like physiques and iron-like strength.

Their name alone exudes power: V587, how commanding and domineering!

V587 punches the Zombie King, kicks mutant beasts, robs the Death Prison of Sin City, and KOs the tyrannical rulers of District C with one move!

No matter how difficult the mission, it’s flawlessly cleared when it falls into their hands.

Their feats become the talk of the Alliance, earning admiration from countless ability users.

Until the grand opening of the inaugural global awakeners challenge, the enigmatic V587 members gather, making their first appearance.

The crowd’s faces turn dumbfounded, “Wait, who are these elderly, young, sick, and two wheelchair-bound cripples? V587? Nooo!”

【Reading Guide】

This is not a space-oriented story. It’s set in an alternative future with a significant technological gap (about 50 years ahead) and uses fictional terms with no direct prototypes.

Combines superpowers with cyberpunk elements, featuring a main storyline alongside team adventures.

Team recruitment is relatively slow at the beginning. The protagonist’s team consists of 7 members, each with their own flaws.

I recently finished reading it, and I must say, one of the standout features of this book is the main character. From the very first chapter, I found them incredibly likeable—charming, relatable, and full of personality. Whether they were facing challenges or experiencing moments of joy, I couldn't help but root for them throughout the entire story. Their wit, vulnerability, and growth made them feel like a real person, which drew me deeper into the plot.

The author does an excellent job of crafting a character that is easy to connect... more>> with, and this connection is what really drives the emotional impact of the book. It's not just about the events that unfold, but about how we, as readers, come to care about what happens to this character.

Overall, if you enjoy books with a memorable and engaging protagonist, this one is definitely worth checking out! <<less

4.5 but rounded down as the ending is pretty lackluster and there are a few weird things about the story. Such as the utter lack of explanation at the first of the story. The world does get fleshed out as the story goes but some things feel like we already supposed to know things (such as the world's version of a tablet).

The MC is Song Ke, a slightly naive and very under-educated young woman. She has lived her life mostly sheltered by her grandfather but his death has her living... more>> alone in one of the poorest areas of her country. Outside her upbringing making her appear dimwitted at times, she is a capable martial artist and very loyal. However, she is not a saint. While willing to help others, she doesn't really go out of her way for anyone beyond her teammates.

The ML is Zhuang Qingyan, a man who initially manipulated the MC into helping him. Seemingly without a care in the world, he begins to see the MC as his reason for existing as he begins to fall for her. It takes quite some time before they begin a full relationship as the MC was just too ignorant about that kind of thing. There is also an implied age gap that is explained by the end of the novel.

Spoiler

It turns out that the pair knew each other when they were much younger. The ML's father ran a lab where the MC came into existence. The ML stayed with his father and often encountered the MC, who became the only ease for his boredom.

Neither looked the same when they met again so its understandable that they didn't recognize each other (the MC also lost all her memories of that time).

[collapse]

The story begins at the start of the Apocalypse and we're given a very rough explanation of the world. It's high tech but the MC is living in the poorest location on her own. We're introduced to some neighbours and how she practices Martial Arts. Then things go downhill very fast and the MC awakens her power. With the area full of zombies, the MC makes the smart decision to leave.

The journey to the ML is relatively short but we get to see the developing dynamic of the world. Primarily with a father and son being separated as one was powered and the other was normal. We also encounter our first "sentient" zombie. It is a lot of world building in a few chapters.

Then we get introduced to the ML, who basically becomes the source for many explanations in the story. Unlike the good natured MC, he is rather cold and unfeeling but seems to enjoy her company.

Spoiler

Later we learn that he is clinically a psychopath but calms down around the MC. Whether this is because of love or some other reason is never explained.

[collapse]

Over the story, the MC is like a Dragon Ball Z character and has a repeating process of wiping out her opponents or coming back stronger after being nearly beaten. She does collect a team (as the synopsis says) but she deals most of the damage.

Her interactions are usually pretty entertaining but they can be a bit mind numbing as her lack of knowledge does make her seem rather dumb. Her team helps off set that so that she is never manipulated beyond the ML's initial action (he starts developing feels pretty quickly even if he is calling her his golden thigh).

Throughout the story, hints are given about the real identities of our two main leads but only the ML really understands who they both are. He doesn't reveal anything until nearly the end of the story.

The story ends up as a fun romp through a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk-esque world but then it gets towards the end and it honestly feels like being cheated.

Spoiler

We have the MC's herioc sacrifice which was clearly never going to be permanent based on her abilities. Following that, we have a time skip until she returns to her friends. Followed by another time skip and the decision to attack another city.

Which is followed by yet another time skip, a mention of that citys destruction and then its side stories.

We were totally robbed of seeing a real end. Even if it was nice to know that two of the teammates get their happy ending.

[collapse]

Overall, it is a fairly entertaining read but the ending could have been so much better.

Definitely a recommended. <<less
