I like this story alot as I find that this transmigrator has the most lazy personality. She only goes into action when she is being stabbed by others. If a person does not harm her, she will not do anything to that person. At the same time, she is smart and intelligent to know how to execute her plans and play her role as a dutiful wife.

I must say that she is really lucky to have the main lead care for her the way he does. Infact, before he even... more>> meets her on their wedding day, he already make a choice to pamper her for the rest of her life with all his abilities. <<less

All I have to say is that this novel was very heartwarming and worth reading all the way.

Love the couple. It may come off that because the ML was interested in her at first but he was really protective yet kind to her and the MC is actually sweet but she does have a strong personality but is also protective of the ML. The ML is also very mysterious but the MC never questions on what he does in the dark (which also sometimes is for the MC and her... more>> protection), even though she probably knows of what the ML does, she still seems to still care about him. They are both very humble when they talk to each other.

Also, the fact that her family loves her, it's really adorable and quite refreshing since most of these historical / transmigrating story is about destroying their evil family but this wasn't the case. <<less

Beautiful story, loaded with hidden meanings. Unfortunately I didnt catch them all, so the first half felt rather slow. Also the end felt rushed, but thats maybe only because I didnt understand the final scheme?

Others have already pointed out the good and best parts of the novel, so I'll not repeat them. Instead, I'll tell you what different and what others may find lacking. (The bad points)

The story is not character centric. As a passive FL, most of the things is just her observing the scemes of the imperial family, while being slowly pulled into it. In other words, not much action from the main couple. A lot of things happens and their attitude is like: 'lets wait and see'.

The interactions of the... more>> couple is unromantic. I did not feel the romance until... maybe at the latter half. However, this is very realistic, as it was an arranged marriage.

The ending is lacking. It's like giving you the result, but not the process. Some things arent just explained.

Overall, it was a smooth read. Since it is finish, you can read it in one go and not be confused with people's relationships and names. If it wasn't, it would be hard to remember everyone names and roles.

I sugest you read it. Translators have done a good job putting the chinese terminology so readers will understand <<less

Highly recommended this book, well written and deservedly well translated, nothing more to say storyline was well written and well thought out. The romance was to my liking the MC was lazy to the point that I felt a connection to me being lazy...

Can't praise this book anymore read it more than once during the process of translation and will without doubt be read more than once in the future.

“TBAVW v.2”

Hmmm no. Honestly, I can certainly find the similarities between the two novels since they do have the same author, translator, and similar concept. But, it is not a clone or is inferior in any way. Maybe it’s because I read this one first.

This novel has its own charm points that are totally different than TBAVW. I felt that this one was more subtle, and the relationship between the two leads were deeper and and made a little more sense. It felt more acceptable to me. I also like... more>> this couple better than the one in TBAVW.

The setting is similar but the situation is slightly different. For one, the mc’s family treasures her which omits any of the vicious backstabbing painful ‘schemes’. So this makes it very refreshing to see genuine familial love.

The ML is also very reasonable, more than the one in TBAVW. I mean he doesnt have any other women, and that might have really buttered me up. He respects the MC and gives her time. He’s hardworking and very endearing. But, he’s two dimensional and he is contrasted with his cruel self which is very cliche but this was delivered really well.

Some people find the mc’s bystander viewpoint disappointing but I thought it was a good story element. It’s very refreshing to see from the perspective of someone that is inevitably dragged in as a bystander most of the time and witness the hero of the story succeed, being her husband. It gives a slightly different taste from TBAVW since that one’s MC is more involved.

The mc’s personality is also pretty likable for me. She seems much more relatable to me than the one in TBAVW. Since I can relate to her more, I can get into the story a little deeper.

Overall, this should be viewed as a conpletely different story, then maybe people would enjoy this more. I certainly did. TBAVW is also really good and also has its charm different from this one. Personally, I enjoyed this one better. <<less

One of best novel that makes for falls for this novel. This novel is very good with interesting summaries plots so are characters. There aren't drama like other novel. It's about arranged marriage, politics and family love. It's slice of life, I enjoying reading this unique novel.

Since it's by the same author, it's very similar to How to be a Virtuous Wife except this MC actually has a lot of hidden abilities coupled with her beauty. She's just super lazy and I love that about her. Hua Xi Wan doesn't even care about her husband most of the time. Also, she's very close with her family and she doesn't want to hurt them unlike other MC's.

I'd also recommend reading How to be a Virtuous Wife before reading this. Both are complete and fun reads.

Really a great read. The amount of graceful and meticulous writing is to my taste and the main characters really surprisingly made me satisfied. This novel is unique in it's own way.

i've heard of To Be a Virtuous Wife and i'll probably read it next.

Anyways, I highly recommend this novel. A worthwhile and satisfying read

This novel is really good. It is similar to 'To be a virtuous wife'. I have been reading quite a few transmigration stories, but none of them are done being translated. So not sure how it ends. One thing I really like about this book and TBVW is that the FL is really strong. She doesn't fall in love with the ML immediately. Even when she does fall in love, she does it with wariness and a big dose of realism. I love the story so far and think that... more>> I will love it as much as I did the TBVW.

It is a fact of life that we all have to make decisions using our brains instead of our heart. While it is true that the era in the book is where the world was controlled by men and women are just pawns. It is also true that values remain same for women even today. You are virtuous if you are feminine and conform to societal norms set by men and you are a who*e if you as for more. The author talks about this double standard between men and women a lot!

It's readable...... but it's not really interesting nor is the plot interesting. I don't really see where this story is heading and the main girl/guy don't have much of any "flavor" therefore the story is boring and plain. The main girl is boring, doing the same thing in almost each chapters.

I feel like there isn't much of a plot. I can't see direction the story is trying to go........ but over all its readable but boring..........

So after a while I came back to give this a second shot.... more>> Turns out this is actually pretty good. I'm glad gave this a second chance instead of dropping this novel!!!!

Also I can't wait to see what scheme the male lead is hiding. <<less

Enjoyable read with a strong female lead, Hua Xi Wan. She marries Yan Jin Qiu, a second ranked prince, due to the emperor's decree. The manure part in the intro is due to her reputation of being unattractive. However, that is a false rumor since she is the most beautiful female in the novel. All of this is in the first few chapters, so not really a spoiler.

The plot contains the politics and conniving of the court and imperial family. This is not a super fluffy love story but the... more>> love does eventually grow. The ending is a happy one as expected but the process of getting there was entertaining.

I'm not sure if FL is a transmigrator or born into another world with her previous life memories intact. She's 16 years old and has the reputation of being a homebody cause she's too ugly. However, FL stays home cause she's too lazy to go out. In her last life she was a hardworking actress. So in this life, she just wants to chill.

She is forced by the emperor's decree to marry ML. ML is the emperor's nephew and the emperor wanted to scheme against ML with this marriage. He figured that ML would find FL disagreeable and neglect her. Then FL's powerful family would dislike ML. However, the emperor's plan of course failed. ML slowly falls in love with FL but FL is cautious in giving her heart to ML.


Later she does give him a chance with the understanding that feelings can change. At the end of the novel, ML succeeds in becoming the emperor and FL his empress. ML stays true to FL and never strays.

This is a great read if you have read TBAVW.

I feel like that one is more inner palace centered, whereas this one is more political. Both books are similar, but this one felt too flat in terms of the main couple's relationship. I feel like this one is a bit lackluster for me in that department, but if you like more political books with bits of romance, this is fine.

Loved it, as other reviews have said, it is just like TBVW.

My only gripe is that I wish there was more to the epilogue. Wanted to read about the kids and such. This left me unsatisfied.

But besides this the MC is just the best! I love how lazy she is. The ML was also great but MC all the way XD

I would have love this more if this is not a "transmigrated" genre. If the author just make the FL with a strong character without that "transmigrated", it would have been perfect. Anyway still 5 star because I love the flow of story and the main couple.

Was an interesting story with a transmigrated FL. Even if she was "lazy" she handled all situations good. Also the male lead has a good and strong personality. I missed intimate scenes to be described more intense. This was not the case at all.

I liked this story. It's a considerably light read, the politics are laid out for us to understand, the characters were diverse and multidimensional, and the plot was developed on a good pace.

The FMC - Hua Xi Wan:

She's a lazy person of lazy habits. Throughout the story this does not change, even when the tension outside the fu is rising and everyone is afraid, she's there listening some voice changing actor guy entertain her. However, she's able, confident, trustworthy and sensible. Values her paternal family and herself, and to... more>> me her best quality is that she has a clear mind. She doesn't lose herself in that historical period, always recognized women's abilities and setbacks, and even more so their disadvantages on such a misogynistic time. Another thing is: the value of human life. In the early chapters is little darker than later on, but HXW recognizes that people below her social standing are also people. Which in comparison, other regressors are laughable. Never had somebody BEATEN TO DEATH because of an inconvenience, like we see in so many stories.

To summarize all this, I quote

"I'm just a common person." Hua Xi Wan smiled. "I will compromise some things in order to let myself live better, and will do some things that I once did not like."

The MMC - Yan Jin Qiu

I don't like him much as person, but in the position he was born and raised, it's this or death. He's vicious, merciless and calm, and all this was needed for the ambitions he cultivated. We never know when the supposed love he has for HXW becomes true as the act and the heart could not be separated. He, like other men in their time (and ours), looked down on women and never tried to understand why they were so. The only woman who was different was his. To quote "what he wanted was a living woman, and not a puppet", he thinks women are just that, decorations, tools.

"Even the most cunning man was crude and simple when dealing with affairs of the inner compound."

As proof of that, he never recognized the sorority of HXW, and to me that should be decisive on understanding her dispositions.

"Noticing her unusually plain appearance, his smile grew smaller. "You feel for the Crown Princess?"" this is when the Crown Princess killed herself. Seriously, how could he not get that? To which woman would it be pleasing having another KILL HERSELF, get a f-ing grip.

Another thing I hate, is that to diverge her attention from heavy topics HXW mentions, he acts cute. And that bothers me for some reason...

Anyways, to me, he is forgettable. In a pile of MLs, YJQ is not a shining one.

For their relationship, I think it's written quite well. In the beginning, they flirted and all but we felt they were distant and awkward. As it goes, both get more comfortable and speak actual words instead of that weird interactions full of riddles they had.

Btw, something that gets under my skin is the constant affirmation "Xian Wang Fei who was deeply loved by Xian Wang". Like almost every chapter we read this same words by different people, there's a chapter this same words were repeated like three f-ing times. Girl, we get it!! They're deeply in love. Also, is kinda disappointing how the politics are there but are really distant, as a result we get

the end which like?? WTF even happened, when did the emperor get sick? How did he die? How did YJQ defeated Yan Bo Yi in the palace? I have so many questions. Yuan Shu Yi killed the Crown Prince on WHOSE order? She tried to sneak out, why? HXW opened her freaking arm in that incident, and after YJQ saw and felt sorrowful and angry it was never mentioned again? The result of the attempted assassination never got them anything??? IHAVESOMANYQUESTIONSSS

As an honorable mention, I'd like to say that Yao shi is my favorite character. I just love her sm. The first time she appeared the opinions on her are biased, as HXW doesn't really care for Yao shi. But from my perspective, she's really funny. I cracked everytime she showed up, said something or even when she's just silent. MOTHER behavior. Honestly I do not think she's a bad person, even tho she did bad things, Yao shi was never malicious to anyone. Beside saying things in private, which everybody does.

This is her, after inquiring about the well-being of HXW:

""Who is concerned about her?" Yao shi coughed awkwardly"

Judging the Eldest Miss and Zhang shi actions, and in introspection:

"Yao shi would admit that she wasn't a virtuous and generous person."

Interesting read. I wouldn't say it was bad and wouldn't say it was great. The tag said that the FL is lazy but I didn't expect her to be that lazy. She definitely did what was necessary but nothing more and nothing less. Interesting to read about a character like this. The ML was great to read about as well. I'm glad he didn't turn it into one of the stereotypical men of that time.

Would recommend if you like these types of stores, read the summary and tags. If you... more>> find that you like them then give this a read. I don't think you'll regret it. <<less
