Sorry, it was just too boring for me.

Part of the reason I dropped this is because this was the fourth book that I have read from the same author. I like his book Stray, but I was meh with one of his book, and did not like the last one, it was sloppy considering it was a later book.

This had a high rating so I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

You see, no matter how I like Stray, I have some problems with the authors writing style and with... more>> the Translator translation (They were the sole translator of Nian Zhong books, I don't know if it's me only but I feel they were mistranslating some meaning from the books, like they should have used 'for' instead of 'to' and the likes, or they may have misunderstood the meaning from the raws and translated what they thought was the right interpretation), anyway I always find reading the author's book confusing sometimes, and the only I could ignore that is if the story itself was interesting enough.

This one is slightly boring. I have trouble connecting with the characters or feeling interest from them.

The motivation and goal was also not early established making it a draggy read. The pacing was slow and the stakes was not that high. It had no tension, all because the author loved to make their MCs super mega op. I think why Stray work for me was because the MC was weak from the start and he was growing. From his other three books (I also read the blurb of his other books that I have not read yet and they also seemed to have the same format) that I have read, all of them were super OP from the start, thus making it boring and tension-less.

The world building was also not that piquing. For the romance, I still not even there yet for the character.

It would be unfair to rate this when I only read less than ten chapters, but damn, I was already fighting with my drowsiness, and I was still going to dinner in a while. That in itself made its stake for me. So dropped. <<less

Story so good I cried. The protagonist's is charming, most of the characters are interesting and fun to explore. The villain's are really well written.

The main antagonist really makes me feel disgusted. Im very impressed. The way they're written was so good it really makes me hate the to the bones. Every time I read them in a chapter, all I can say is " eww, your disgusting just disappear. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww"

I was super excited to evaluate this novel, it should be recognized for what it really is; well written, detailed world, incredible characters, all written with a lot of personality.

If you found the synopsis and tags interesting, please read it and ignore the low ratings based on others personal taste! Time will definitely not be wasted, there are several poorly written novels that are very successful, this one that is so good does not deserve to die in the limbo of novel updates

Requires some brainpower to compute, lol. The world building is complex and beautiful, well paced and slowly fleshed out with continuity. The characters (main and side) are dimensional and solidly built. The plot twists and turns and builds. My brain just struggles to understand what’s going on 10+% of the time because it’s so complicated.

The primordial elements—I couldn’t easily accept why ‘Satisfaction’ and ‘Fear’ are the two key starter pack emotions. When you think about it a bit... yes, I guess, if it boils down to the basest of feelings; but! Why satisfaction x birth, fear x death?

There’s so many emotions, why spotlight those specific emotions of sorrow, anxiety, loneliness, etc?

It also seemed like a very lucky blend of coincidences with the decision to destroy fear right then, triggering that particular ‘divine descent’—but why did it affect Yin Ren specifically in the womb? Luckily that black river ZCS was located right where he was staying too. And how did Yin Ren come to the human world right then? Just nice meet in the rain?

Then towards the end it seemed like the condition to create ‘gods’ is not that hard? Meiqiu was like poof! created.

Anyway, besides that I did enjoy it! Each arc and plot point is developed; funny and cute when it needed to be, heart warming and sad, even tears inducing, satisfying with the at times OP strength, but with areas to grow throughout the novel. Each arc builds on not just the main characters own backstory and their relationship, but also introduces the side characters, building that emotional connection. Best characters Huang Jin and Ge Tingting who are ‘average’ humans but showed strength in unexpected ways. The salted fish boss leads x helpless company management interactions were also super funny.

The romance was unusual but so right because of their characters and personalities. The unveiling of vests was satisfying, and the tension was present, the eventual fluff was nice too! Awkward, but right. Superrr cute, two of them together.

That was one of the best. I never thought it will be that good at the beginning. Usually its one of the protagonists that makes me interested in a story but here it was once MC than the ML and after some times its the MC again and go on. What Yin Ren went through was too much and heart breaking but that what made him what he is a unique character. And it was never tragic because he never made us feel that, I really enjoyed watching him. This story is just so so so good! I love it. The translation is awesome and the characters, plots and world building all were fantastic. The whole story would make a great series. There’s alot of reviews already, so I won’t say much. Just that I love all the characters, storylines and the whole small interconnected arcs all came together.A very awesome read for me. I have an enjoyable time reading it. Highly recommend. Tq

This was a rabbit hole...

I say this with good intentions because it was so hard to see where the plot was going. It sure did give me New Times, New Hell vibes—which is interesting enough for me already. I like stories that mesh old-fashioned traditional concepts with modern approaches. Or in other words, I like when centuries-old ghosts fiddle with cellphones.

MC wakes up after a thousand-year nap. We know he’s not human & that he’s probably packing one hell of a punch. Add in our OCD king of a... more>> male lead & the setting of working together in a paranormal investigation corporate company... I had no idea where this was heading.

Overall, this story was a total web of intrigue, mystery, & a sweet slowburn that had my heart sobbing. Ghosts & plot aside, I adored the main CP. It’s a great example of truly being made for the other person. What MC embodies is what ML lacks & they complete each other perfectly. It’s a relationship that incites growth & I am absolutely for it.

I agree with other reviews, it's a unique plot but it becomes a bit boring and tedious to read. I started to get frustrated with some of the characters around the disappearance case arc and then dropped the novel the arc after. I didn't really feel any tension and the characters fall a little bit flat for me. The events are also described in a way that feels too complex to entirely digest or visualize, and I have trouble trying to sort out what's actually happening in my mind. The author did an amazing job writing a story thats so well-connected with all of its elements and previous discussions. The translator did an amazing job translating every detail that there was to note.

The story started extremely strong, but I cannot say how it ended.

The first arc had me so hooked I did not even want to sleep and keep reading instead.

Every arc is connected, slowly telling the full story.

Only issue I had: somethings became a bit too much.

This would probably be my best novel for a long time. The world building and power system intricate. Author combined the scientific aspect seamlessly. From the importance of scientific personnel (atheist) to the network like system in the end, it was very well thought of. The metaphysical side of power system was also very interesting. It's kinda a spoiler but aside from the "basic class" there also "advanced class" and mutation-like classification that could happen to metaphysical personnel.

The characters was especially amazing. I don't think I could forget Yin Ren... more>> and Zhong Chengshuo personality forever lol. Yin Ren (MC/shou) liveliness and maturity, Zhong Chengshuo zero EQ and persistence (ML/gong) was such a weird combination, but it works for them. They always came up with equally unique problem solving methods (you won't imagine what they did to solve the final boss lol). Basically, they have one of a kind personality and relationship dynamic in danmeis www. Seeing the black cat and black rabbit cuddling has always been a boost of serotonin for me. Ofc, other characters are also nice with their own development. Here, even "villains" might even be the MCs teammates in further revelation.

Tho if I have to nitpick, I think author could've expand more on the period

When the whole city was going insane. I think it'll be much more impactful if we were to see the perspective of sober people, who were less affected by the corruption, seeing the world around them descend into chaos. It'll make us feel more thrill and sense of crisis yknow.

... But then again at that time, we already have more than enough sense of crisis from just the main characters perspective. So eh, I wasn't really major, mostly my personal taste.

Another thing would be some of the potential elements or characters were abandoned/wasn't developed enough? Feng Qi, the little boy who could see other as game stats wasn't mentioned anymore, the nightwalkers, or the "average" metaphysical world wasn't developed enough, and we barely know the situation of other cities/provinces.

But of course logically speaking, such widely developed story wouldn't be able to be packed in just 200+ chapters. And I have seen Nian Zhong writing style. They writes intricate and compact story that is well developed in an appropriate manner. It produces great story telling but sometimes it sacrifice the screentimes for some "not as related to the main story" elements in world building.

In conclusion, those things wasn't a major problem. It was just my personal preferences of story with grand world building that is completely developed. Setting aside all of that, this is definitely top tier novel. A whole five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ novel, no less. You all should try it 👍 <<less

So so good!!! I love all the characters and the main couple - the author does such a great job writing them! The plot is so well crafted, with complicated motivations, twists and many emotional moments. It's definitely more thriller/mystery than romance but I really like that and think both parts are done well. The MC and ML are both strong but still have a sense of progression and face difficult challenges rather than being OP. I'll definitely return to this and read the authors other novels :)

I really wanted to like this novel; the premise was everything I wanted in a BL novel and the SCP aspect was new in this genre, but I just really couldn't immerse myself in the characters. The romance would've been so good but to be brutally honest, the characters themselves aren't interesting on their own, not to mention I found the world-building to be lacking.

I HIGHLY recommend you take notes of names and who they are in the story. There are maybe ~40 characters

Some unassuming characters that you might overlook will come back into the story again after a few incidents or just be brought up by name

There also many names that they use for others like (##-er),

... more>> (xiao-##), (Lao-##), etc. They even have usernames in their group chats that had to be remembered as well so I can tell who is talking (fruit knife), (final fruit), etc.

I read this story without notes and stopped in the middle somewhere. When I came back I find that I don’t remember who [Gu Lingxao] is, which (fruit) was the MC or ML, and if (Qin##) was the guy or the lady?

I reread from the beginning specifically so I can jot down the names, what others called them as, and usernames too

I know their characteristics but it’s hard to link names after a long time, you know?

Story is memorable though, very good read <<less

It seems nice. Prologue was fun. More has yet to be learned about MC and Ml, but they have the makings. At the moment, it seems that ML has no idea about the supernatural. This is a feature, but I expected something else, so I'll postpone reading a bit. It's too early to estimate at the moment, but it's probably 3.5/5 for me.

Try to read it if you like stories like that.

Bro this is so good like I'm in love with both leads, sadly I'm in the middle of exam week and I could only read sporadically so now I can't read anymore so I'm gonna restart some day. Seriously read this it's so fun!!

So our MC, Yin Ren, is this over a thousand year old ghost who gets free after being bound for a thousand years. Literally like an hour later he bumps into ML and there starts their comedic story.

MC is a carefree evil spirit who wants to be... more>> a salted fish. He's usually smiley and social and secretly super super strong.

ML is this germaphobe atheist guy who's super smart and has a secret identity. He's a cold guy but he's written so nicely that you can't help but like him. It's not like he's an ice block, he truly has a personality.

The author has done a great job with the characterisation. Unlike many novels that have dull, repetitive characters these characters are much more 3 dimensional. You can see their flaws and feelings quite well.

The writing is also in light, relieving way. Yes, the story might be a bit dark sometimes- it's horror, ya know- but overall it's a really fun read. 10/10 recommend. <<less

This was fantastic! Sci-fi horror elements, well-defined characters and a fantastical and captivating plot.

  • Started off with episodic horror mysteries - a girl and her strange supernatural cat disappearing into a void, a young boy corrupted by evil forces with a young girl killing sinners...
  • Many overarching mysteries that frame the story well: who is MC, who is ML, what is this mystery void and what is the evil organisation trying to do with the Other Side... ?
