One day, her father gave her a sl*ve boy. He said he saved him from the battlefield because of his good looks.

“He has a seal engraved on his heart. As long as you have this bead, he won’t be able to disobey you. So you can order him to do anything.”

“Sit down.”

The boy looked rather grim after hearing what she ordered.

“Ah, was I treating him too much like a dog?” As her father squeezed the bead, the boy then knelt at her feet.

“Master”

His red eyes flashed, illuminating his eerie gaze while smiling madly.

He was the darkest of the darkest one. The future grand wizard and final boss of this world.

“Well, you’re all that’s left now, Master.”

And then, at the age of 22, he awoke as the Master of the Magic Tower and took revenge by killing her entire house.

“Do you want to live? Then sit down, Master.”

The eerie red eyes turned to her.

‘Why is he like this to me?! I tried my best to treat him properly!’

The premise was pretty interesting. I've seen transmigrators deliberately get close to villains, avoid them at all cost, discover that supposed villains are actual sweethearts and proceed to "protect" 'em or maybe they're actually bad and try to "save" them... Anyways, most have that sickly sweet shoujo vibe so this novel was like a breath of fresh air.

I'm saying "was" 'cause a novel could only be this butchered. Characterization was one hell of a mess.

MC and ML... I don't get them, really. One day they claim to completely understand each... more>> other, the other day they are no better than strangers; she's supposed to be numb to all but actually hates when ppl die when she didn't have such problems before? Suddenly so compassionate, a natural animal rights protector, a ray of sunshine... Well, ML isn't any better, he's the watered-down version of MC.

For a novel that deserves a "psychological" tag, charas were way too shallow and edgy. Those that can be "saved" are so easy to open up, kinda pure ones can just as easily "blacken". So... *sighs*

I also don't like the sheer amount of cringe talk about MC and ML's mental state. Like, I'm forced to try to survive through " (s) hes (br) ok (en) " kinda talk every 2-3 chapters bruh. It's not like those talks hold much meaning either, it's just there to make you regret the first time you read web novels.

In conclusion, bloody hell mate, I just want to disappear.

P.s: After b*tching around so much, I forgot to mention that translation is good lol, now I'll disappear for good. <<less

The themes of this story is dark. I am currently at a part the theme of healing from deeply rooted trauma is starting to show up. Both the MC and ML are the result of their environment and it's absolutely devastating. I feel my heart aching every time MC is unable to accept a simple gesture of kindness without thinking that she needs to pay it back. Her personality is well developed and too realistic for me. I was looking for a brain dead fluffy romance and did not expect... more>> this story to go down this path. It's a great story but would require patience.

Edit: I saw some reviews talking about the MC having no character. I personally disagree with that. Her sheltered and extreme guarded personality may make it seem like she has 'no personality'.

Spoiler

During her early childhood, she was forced to kill a puppy that she grew fond of. She refused to do so. Her father in turn ensured the puppy died a cruel death. Around chapter 50, she finds a resemblance between the og ML who depended on her and the puppy. She obviously did not want to feel get hurt again and thus she treated the og ML coldly. She knew the ML was deranged and she was targeted by people who wanted to use her alchemy, so she thought it was inevitable for the ones she was connected to to get hurt

[collapse]

Spoiler

She has little to zero common sense but thats due to the fact that she was not allowed to go outside, was treated like a circus clown at banquets, ab*sed, and had no one to really teach her things that weren't 'useful' for alchemy.

[collapse]

Spoiler

She knew the fate of the people under the Count and all the horrible things they've done. Although she tried to stop them when she was younger, she did not have the authority or power to do so. Years pass she becomes desensitized (which is normal because it literally was something that occurred daily in her house and she was also a victim). The only thing she had control over was her emotions so she guarded them. Locked them away would probably be more fitting. Im hoping she heals and open her heart again.

[collapse]

Anyway I can't seem to like the ML at all. His heart is so twisted that I can't find any sort of justifications for his later actions. Its the first time I've read a great book with a bad ML.
Spoiler

I specially cannot handle it whenever he mentions wanting the MC to be a complete doll that only had him. He wants her to be so broken down by everyone around them so that she can only turn to him. God I despise that so much. I am a sucker for possessive/obsessed ML but not this one.

[collapse]

The tragedy tag is killing me right now. I guess im dropping the novel 😭 <<less

This is my first review, so I neglected sorting my complaints in order of when the events happened in the book. Its more of a rant then a proper review tbh.

I can’t say I like it.

I know its a yandere novel, and while im cool with yanderes, I don’t like it when they’re just crazy a**holes.

Spoiler

The MC is a so called alchemist, but pretty recently we can see that the profession is essentially useless. She can’t do anything with it in the beginning, due to her father restricting her access to her equipment, because ancient magic circles should be reliant on equipment, and alchemy as a whole just fades away.

“The top alchemists are capable of creating magic healing potions capable of restoring limbs within hours.” (paraphrasing) Thats it. Thats all we really know, besides they can summon spirits, but I don’t remember whether thats directly linked to alchemy.

Anyway I digress. The first time I saw this phrase, my immediate thought was that this world was rather grounded in terms of how powerful one can be, after all while restoring limbs in hours is amazing, its not very... exciting? ML, of course, defies such... worldy things like expectations.

So later on, ML decides to slaughter some mages since they ticked him off, and then literally revives them instantly with a legendary spell that reverses time with no detriment to his own being. So... MCs ability is useless.

Mm, something else is that her father places a bracelet to restrict her, and her amazing alchemic powers can’t even do anything to try and tinker with it.

You would think alchemy would be related to items and things like transfiguration, but no.

Something else interesting is the absolute lack of a decent human being within the story. MC might count, but she doesn’t do anything at all, save to try and keep her conscience light.

Which brings me to my next problem. How is her mental state still ok? Her father starves her and hangs her by the foot. Her so called servants don’t respect her, and don’t obey her. ML is automatically void of being able to make her happy, at least for the first part of the novel, due to her fear of him.

Im pretty sure the sole reason her conscience is light is due to of all the people being slaughtered horrifically in the mansion, or in the entire story, none of them are decent people.

Well there is actually two entities who are decent... lifeforms? One being the Crown Prince, but she doesn’t bother to socialize with him.

So... forgive me for the blunt words, but why hasn't she attempted su*cide? She finds no joy in life, and she quite literally has nothing to live for. Hell, she hasn’t even tried to escape. She just looks at her bracelet and goes “Woops, nothing I can do.” She could’ve tried asking the Crown Prince, but I guess she hasn’t heard the saying “No risk no reward.” All she does is just wait for her inevitable demise, all the while hoping that treating a sociopathic lunatic better could somehow save her.

Then theres the wind elemental summon, “Jin, ” the other decent entity.

I lied again, as once she gets imprisoned within the magic tower, she decides its a good idea to try and escape.

Its repeated several times throughout the story that shes a smart lady. Like I mentioned before, she wants to keep a light conscience. So why does she not care about Jin?

After getting kidnapped and reduced to a knockoff Rapunzel in the tower of lunatics, she somehow thinks its a good idea to repeatedly summon her high rank spirit summon, as though it could possibly beat ML, who is basically a god rank in comparison to Jin?

Jin protests her actions, such as one time where she tries summoning him with a magic circle made of blood, which she magically learned how to do, saying that he refuses to be summoned through such a foul method, then MC summons him anyway.

Wouldn't you know, the special room in the Tower created by 12 archmages or whatever can’t even stop a summon. Then ML shows up, slams Jin against the wall, and starts licking her wound or whatever. I know saliva can help disinfect wounds or something, but thats gross. MC asks ML patiently to release Jin, which he does, and though my memories somewhat hazy, I believe Jin starts to berate MC, who proceeds to tune out his rant without any remorse for her actions which could’ve gotten him killed.

She also tries helping animals and whatnot that got injured somehow and grounded in her yard, knowing full well if her father catches her, he would kill them, ultimately leaving them worse off then before.

P.S., she somehow believes the ML (The one she called “completely fake”) when he tells her that the Crown Prince was going to use her as a cash cow, though I might be misremembering that.

[collapse]

Anyway, tl;dr, the MC has literally no personality, and theres little to nothing to make up for it in world building, action, other people, etc.

The sole personality she does appear to have is a mirror of her fathers, aka using people for her own gain without remorse, albeit it is nowhere as bad as her fathers.

The translations pretty good though.

My rating should be a 2, but NU won’t let me change it. Thanks NU. <<less

In short, if you like themes such as psychology, slice of life and s*xual tension, this book is for you! If you're into straight up romance and in depth character development, I just saved you from wasting your time on writing a one star review of this novel!

Frankly, there isn't much to like about the characters if you look at them individually, but as a whole, they hold up the plot of the book pretty well! The FL is cold and consistent throughout the book, so we don't have to... more>> put up with the typical emotional-wreck of a female character, and the ML is a steadfast yandere who is true to his nature. The combination of these two characters is pretty insane as I can't imagine how hard it is to put a psychopath and sociopath as lead characters, let alone making them romantic interests, it's not unheard of as yandere couples are pretty common, but for an author to execute the delivery of such complex characters must be a chore. Just like many novels, this novel has its flaws and plot holes as well, but it is beautifully translated (not promoting but RainofSnow Doradora has amazing kr novel translations), and it is a book that I would be glad to stay till the end of its translation! Plus, the translation gives me a very interesting imagery and visualisation of this novel. I wouldn't want to stay and rant too much about the characters individually but I've had a fun time so far reading this novel and I hope whoever is reading this would enjoy it just as much as I did🎐 <<less

The novel is quite entertaining. I do like the story of how the story flows go.

I'm just confused by the female MC. Her personality and the way she act and do are inconsistent.

Like she said she didn't care about other people and hate for them to die, but for several chapters it would change.

... more>> She's like a bland stew, in order for them to make the taste better they would just put whatever they like in it.

The ML too, he goes from killing then the next he would said that female MC hates it when people die. (When MC said she doesn't care about them dying 😂😂😂)

I'm just too confused about their character creation. I'm not sure if MC and the ML really understand each other.

The story is good but the characters are inconsistent.

But I will read until the end if God's willing. I might change my mind and will see the changes in each character. <<less

I should’ve listened to the reviewers. The FL has no personality which makes it boring. It was understandable why the ML is so twisted because he IS a villain in the end. However, I think I wasted my time. I will make sure to note that a good novel cover doesn’t always mean it’ll be a good story. This was not for me :/

It's a very sad that we couldn't see the ending of the novel because it was taken down but if someone was to pick it up, me for sure would love to read it.😔

Despite the ML and FL being broken people we get to see them growing and developing into better people even if it was little by little.❤️

The story itself was very sad and profound so you have to be prepared to cry reading it if you are a soft person like me.😅

I ACTUALLY ENJOYED IT! Because of the negative reviews, I have been ignoring this novel but then I told myself, I need to judge it for myself... NOW I absolutely find myself enjoying the pyschological, angst in this novel.

The ML is twisted and broken, but why? At first I didn't really understand and I found him very creepy, but as I read on, I tried to look at it on his own perceptive.

The moment he was born in the world - he was bombarded by countless memories and lifetimes of... more>> cold-blooded predecessors. He retains those memories and their twisted and violent nature inherent to his nature. THINK. He was only a child but this ugly, cruel emotions and old past memories were already overtaking his childhood. Because of the overwhelming magic in his body - if not vented upon anything - he will turn far beyond insanity. This is where his wrath comes from. Such is the curse and glory of being the Magicians Tower's Master.

As for the MC? I actually felt like she was a very indifferent character at best but if forced in her shoes - who wouldn't be? Her self-esteem was repeatedly stepped on since a young age and both her parents were mentally unstable. She is broken and had long been mentally brainwashed and rewired by her manipulative and abusive father. In order to keep her sanity, she needed to discard her emotions or else she would have just committed su*cide. She wants a quick, painless death but if the situation doesn't call for it - she will try her best to continue living. I like the fact, that she knew how to keep a leash on the ML, using her keen observation and sharp words.

Honestly, I enjoy the power dynamics between the MC and ML. Both had their own cards against each other and they're both twisted and sickly tyrannical. But they don't actually want to. The MC's wish is simple. To own a safe and warm home where she could rest for a long time. The ML's wish is to help her find that peaceful home for her and stay by her side.

I ENJOYED IT, SO WHAT! Compared to thousands of Mary Sue's I've encountered - this type of MC was pretty much new to me. <<less

I.. At first felt it was lacking that I didn't know the MC's motivation at doing things (even the ML) but as the story progressed on and the Duke (will appear around ch30?) we'll see his perspective and then I understood then..

The MC (as well as the ML) has been ab*sed ever since they were children, growing to an environment they grew up in, I could see why the MC acts the way she does, so much wall around her and ready to run at any given moment.. Looking forward... more>> to more scenes with the Duke I hope he just adopts them all lmao <<less

Read this because of promo manga/manhwa in batoto. This doesn't disappoint so far. ML is a bit not right in the head (very cunning, shrewd, and deceptive), but I enjoyed it. And the FL/MC is definitely smart (hopefully she stays this way till the end) as she properly adapted to the situation at hand in regards to ML's behavior. I am surprised, considering how dark some of the contents are, that this doesn't have smut in it (and really.... Really.... REALLY hope this will have smut contents toward the end... more>> 😅). Thank you translators-nim <<less

It's certainly well translated. Really well.

But the content is horrendous - I mean, I don't care if somebody is yandere when he is just killing everyone and everything. His "affection" doesn't matter if he's just a serial killer. In this whole damn story the value of life is literally nowhere to be found excluding only the fl, who lives like a doll through everything.

And don't get me wrong, crazy people and serial killers are nothing unusual in stories. But this whole s*it ala "oh, he's so good looking, I have... more>> to remind myself I must not fall in love with him" right when he's merrily killing an entire household (and even if some of them deserved death, it's still a brutal mass mu*der. It got nothing to do with justice, but was probably portrayed as such)... and all those descriptions are made to make him the ml... there got to be a serious problem with the author.

Maybe it's somehow getting better later on. I read till chapter 30 thinking of that (like in death is the only ending for the villainess, where the MC is somehow coldly calculating surrounded by a bunch of more or less mentally disorderd mls, but the story still somehow working), but after reading so far and skipping through the spoilers I've no confidence in that.

I can't recommend that for anyone, whose concept of humanity isn't rock solid and it definitely deserves an 18+ rating regarding that. <<less

Absolutely adore this novel.i like that the charcters have depth the content is kinda dark two damage people trying to figure out who to live. Yandere ML gose from being a s*ave and ab*sed to having absolute power and of course has to get revenge and dosent understand mercy and kindness because it wasnt shown to him.

FL is emotionally damaged from being exploited ab*se and neglected. So she has become cold and calculating after the death of the abusive family she is trying to learn more about how to have... more>> normal relationships and how she can survive independently when powerful people want her for her abilities.

Warning this is not a fluffy story <<less

Is it just me or this novel is really bad at building a FL's personality? I'm aware that ML is villain & yandere, so I can expect the way he expresses his feeling or whatsoever. But FL is different, she reads & knows the novel's tropes and still acts s*upidly and blandly. On the one hand, she's usually cold and distant from the ML, but easily trusts the strangers even though they are taking advantage of her foolishly. Then, on the other hand, she relies on and dispense some love/affectionations... more>> (no ideas if those emotions are fake or real) to the ML. I think the one who should see a doctor and undergo therapy is the FL instead of the ML due to her past unsolved traumas and weirdo persona. After reading the novel and Manhwa, her complete nonsense character is shown much more clearly. <<less

This is purely my opinion from what I've read in the manhwa. The FL is smart and makes logical decisions at the start, but eventually starts trusting the YANDERE that imprisoned her just because. Like, he literally killed you and your family in another universe just cause he found you annoying. But I also understand why he did that, it was mentioned that he was sexually harassed by both father and daughter in the OG story. But it doesn't change the fact he could kill you at any time he... more>> finds you annoying. He is a double edged sword. The ML is completely deranged and has no morals at all. He's the type of guy who would fatally injure you just cause you looked at him weirdly. I mean, I like obsession but not like this... <<less

I always put of this novel or even the manhwa when I saw this, cause I don't like sla-ves. But finally read this as the rating is so high.

I was so s*upid for casting this away and I regret and envy those who'll read the novel for the first time.

Don't wanna give any spoilers to spoil the fun. But yes, the FL and ML both are strong. They have powers to protect themselves. It's not the regular cliché where only the the ML saves fl. I'll say it's both way... more>> round. ML has a tyranny personality but he's not a jerk.

It's really the most interesting novel I've read so far. I will say for all those novels I've given a review for are good. But this is the best. I mean BEST OF BEST!

Some of the dialogue confuses me about the characters' personalities, especially the female lead. I know that this timeline is from a novel; that gave me the idea that she is originally from a different world, and maybe she's from the "real" world, but the way she thinks about human communication is like a person who has never lived until now.

I gave it 3 stars because I like the premise and word building.

but the main leads just don’t go together, maybe it should have been more about them being like siblings and him learning to let her go.

He is a total loose cannon psycho and she is totally emotionless (littery a living zombie for the first part and out of no were she turns into a condescending\demanding brut).

people say she is like this because of her father, but I don’t think that’s the reason.
