Fake Slackers

Description

After class placements were decided, the school’s two infamous ‘problem youths’ not only shared the same class, but the same desk.

They’re clearly good at studies, but pretend to be slackers. Fakers from head to toe who just keep walking farther down the path of their performance.

Heard through the grapevine about the two big brothers who always fight over the last place in class.

Basically, this is a serious comedy. About the little matters of growing up.

The novel is so much fun to read! I am hoping to read the entire novel in some way. So far the characters seem very real. They made laugh out loud.

Definitely a bit slow, but such a heartwarming read. Xie Yu's personality is cold and mean from an outsider's perspective, but the way he treats his friends and the way he treats He Zhao is just really nice. He Zhao's down-to-earth, comical personality just meshes well with Xie Yu's. Truly a couple who bring out the best in each other.

A humorous and sweet story about school life, growing up and the friendships forged along the way.

Xie Yu and He Zhao are two notorious slackers of their school, with a bad reputation for fighting and beating people up. So seating them side by side in class is a recipe for disaster - until they completely flip expectations and become friends.

It was hilarious watching them try and help the other along in studies while having to hide the fact that they're smart. And even more when others in class tried to... more>> give the two genii tips about studying.

Character development was also well done, and seeing how far they came from

was a delight!

The side characters were entertaining, the family dynamics were complex yet sweet and the friendships shown were some of the best! Over all, a lovely read! <<less

The novel radiates the aura of youth and innocent love. They are hot-blooded yet they are not reckless. The author and the translator not only successfully portrays the nostalgia and vibrant feeling of school days, it also interweaves a tragic yet beautiful tale of two troubled youths who find solace within one another. I loved the character growth that takes place.

Their love story is not, I only want you to be happy. It is more of, I have you, that is why I am happy. You pull me forwards. Being... more>> with you, I have learned more, loved more and lived more.

Although the side characters are not prominent, they are not forgotten either. They all play a role in the story. Their presence is minor but it is like adding salt in a dish. It is subtle but noticeable and essential. Every little detail adds more color to the story.

Minor spoiler:

Although, I was a bit upset that we did not get anything in regards to a certain tr*sh step brother. I would have loved some face-smacking on that part. I also would have liked to know more about He's missing sister. But still, over all the story was quite satisfactory.

The ending reminded me of Perks of being a wallflower. It is vivid and it leaves a way for endless possibilities. The novel may have ended, but their story is just starting. <<less

Nostalgia hit me as I was nearing the ending, and it sure hit hard. I'll surely miss reading this, wondering when I will encounter such good work again. As my reading list attests, I dont think I have read high school slice-of-life bl novel aside from this, because they suck and they're boring. This? This is such a gem I laughed throughout. The cast are such a mood you'd wish you had them as classmates (especially the ml).

It's that good, the story hooked me - from the start to the... more>> end.

It's one of those times I have to thank my eyes for spotting a potential good novel! Hah I know my eyes are never wrong (Just kidding. God know how many times I was proven wrong). <<less

Cute. Definitely funny as well. Found myself laughing out loud at certain parts. Quick easy read. I also love the more flowery descriptions of things. It goes well with the high school setting. Sort of ads a whole air of nostalgia.

Personal rating 4.5, this is focus story between MC and ML in their high school life, with a bit drama on their life, not so dark and heavy, their problem not so extreme, u can feel familial warm (but not that much, just enough), and also may feel motivated to do better.. (or feel guilty for urself), there's many motivational moment and quote here.. but it's on appropriate time.. MC, ml, and their friend is so good and green flag character for me... they also had a bit smut but... more>> the thing I don't like is just the time stamp is vague. Sometimes I feel Author jump to 1 scene to Another scene that feels like glimpse over to some event (although I know the reason is to build more emotion and became bridge for present chp, but still some of them is too vague that makes me confused) <<less

This is a really beautifully written high school romance. It is really funny but heartwarming one. It breaks through the class system that rich only like rich or rich people only get along with rich people and also the ranking system that top graderes usually associate themselves with those from the top and so on. It's not at all cliché and really interesting. Each characters are given character trais unique to their own. He Zhao and Xie Yu are really cool (? 😂) Or in the words of their school... more>> mates real tyrants of East and West buildings who always score last and second last. But it's just for those who with this fear of their outlook don't dare to associate with them. Xie Yu after a while understood the burden of slackerdom. Gradually they, especially Xie Yu found themselves surrounded by group of people who treat them same in all situations and will be together with them for a long run. He Zhao has a lively character in the front but is like a beast caged inside who others won't dare anger. On the other hand, Xie Yu is like a cold block of ice to whom others won't dare get close to but has a soft side hidden for only those who dare to know him. He Zhao is talkative and interactive while Xie Yu won't give a sh*t to anything and anyone. Although they are like this but with their looks and charisma people can't help but look in their direction more than once. The other characters like those people from Black Water neighborhood Xie Yu is close with, the students of class 2.3, the teachers of ErZhong, Madam Gu, Old He and others are those characters that make the story lively and give it a soul in addition to these two big brothers.

Its a nice story which should be given a try! <<less

the novel was really so beautiful. The way the author wrote on every characters in the novel makes me cry. Theyre making me love everyone (except for that dog zhong jie) more and I cant bear to move on with this book. Its giving me the nostalgia feeling of being in classes when every thing was just as fine as a perfect sunny day back then. And the couple is so f*cking smart im gonna cry

This is right up my alley. Three words: wholesome, adorable and hilarious.

A teens' slice of life. Some were swept under the rug but it was a very satisfying read. The pacing is slow but when I reached the end, it felt too fast! I want to know more about their university life, marriage and welp, I did not expect I would love to see more interactions between Class 3. They were as tight as thieves! A very worth envy bond.

You know what's more great? The illustration they launched between pages... more>> were so 😍😍😍.

Orz s-save meee, there's an adapted manhua next.

Spoiler

It was not heavy, the misunderstandings were resolved but I kind of still felt unfair for the ones who got punished for being a student with bad grades. Thank goodness, only two teachers (the one who expelled He Zhao's friend) and Xia gal who got petitioned) were from a spoiled egg. I hope the Zhong Jie would find closure aside from his fear of He Zao, seriously, I know his loss was probably not handled well but he also did not try to see the happiness of his father and Madam Gu.

Can I just say I got a little bit teary when their homeroom teacher tried his best until the end to "help" Xie Yu and He Zhao? They were considered as bad seed, delinquent, but he still tried his all to understand and motivate them. I no longer want to know why he transferred, I just know that he's a good person.

~3.5 ✨ rounded up ~

Ahh so cute, this was my first slice of life / high school set danmei. It wasa little difficult to get used to in the beginning since im used to diving head first into the intricacies of a plot and lenghty descriptions (thank you priest), and I could feel a reading slump coming but im SO GLAD I kept reading, I enjoyed it so much. The CP is so endearing (He Zhao + Xie Yu Forevaa). Its light hearted and dramatic, but that's what makes it... more>> fun and keeps you reading. There weren't any shocking nor surprising moments just overall cuteness. Definitely recommend for a light and amusing read, where you can giggle over the antics of dramatic high school students fretting over exam grades, wishing they were playing video games instead. <<less
