Chi Zhou and Lu Shen are sworn enemies, their personalities fundamentally incompatible. Whenever they meet, sparks fly, and they’re constantly tripping each other up.

One day, Chi Zhou has a “car accident” and ends up in the hospital.

His nemesis, Lu Shen, pays him a visit.

Chi Zhou, with a sly grin, points to his head: “Sorry, I’ve lost my memory. Who are you?”

Lu Shen looks at the minor scr*pe on Chi Zhou’s head – barely enough to warrant a Band-Aid.

Then he counters: “Don’t remember? I’m your boyfriend.”

Chi Zhou: “?”

Damn, Lu Shen, you’d stoop that low just to mess with me?

Chi Zhou sneers internally.

Fine, pretending to be gay just to mess with me? Let’s see who wins this game.

—Because everyone knows Lu Shen is a bona fide straight guy.

From that moment, Chi Zhou gained a “boyfriend.”

And soon, everyone was shocked to see that Chi Zhou had changed.

He started showing up everywhere with Lu Shen, clinging to him, calling him “ge”, holding hands, even changing his profile picture and social media banner to cozy photos of him and Lu Shen.

People even witnessed Chi Zhou warding off Lu Shen’s admirers on the basketball court, drinking from Lu Shen’s water bottle, and innocently asking, “What’s wrong, Ge? Aren’t we a couple?”

Everyone around was so stunned they dropped their basketballs.

Lu Shen’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, but he calmly replied, “Of course, babe, you can do whatever you want.”

Chi Zhou, caught off guard by that “babe”: “…”

Damn it, almost got played by this jerk!

*

Chi Zhou never imagined that this time, his scheme would end up trapping him, too.

Afterward, he fumed more and more, finally kicking Lu Shen off the bed with a shout: “I’ve regained my memory. We’re breaking up. Right now!”

Translations are still ongoing, but so far, I'm loving the narration and the execution of a potentially good concept- albeit quite a bit unreasonable, or at least for me. (Chi You) MC, who somehow really hated (Lu Shen) ML's indifferent attitude that appeared to him as a pretend front, started that he threw him mild pranks because of that, although it was said that it actually didn't go too far.

But regardless of that mild tick off, I'm anticipating for what will come up next. I have a good feeling... more>> about this book.

Spoiler

I really pitied MC's friend and dorm roommate. The friend and his one-year lover used to be straight, but then one day, this guy started pursuing him like crazy and it went to the extent as to serenading him outside their dorm, which finally "bent" MC's friend. It appears, this guy actually hated MC's friend, which the friend also knew so he ignored his crazy pursuit for months until he lost composure and turned gay, and it was that guy's form of revenge to break the heart of MC's friend. I can really sympathize with the cries and mourns of MC's friend. The guy was so despicable... Aah just thinking about it again makes me tear up.

First of all, the translation did a good work as usual (tbh I'm a fan of their website). Second of all this review isn't directed to any fans to this novel or similar genre, this is just my personal opinion.

I feel complicated with this novel, at first it may looks funny but it gets annoying later on. MC and ML are supposed to be "straight" and enemies. I read the backstory and feel it was just a whole big misunderstanding and was happy that ML is actually not a possessive... more>> typical ML I thought he's going to be. I thought MC is mature but he's just the typical sunny/someone's moonlight and childish MC (like the typical shounen mc).

Here's the annoying part, after MC discovered that ML is actually gay and like him (he even confessed to him), MC at first rejected him. I know some people may said he's still in denial although MC actually like ML as well, he's the one who sulk/mad at ML bcs ML is starting to distance himself and confront abt it to him. Then they become friends bcs ML doesn't want to force MC to like him.

Like BFR, MC is the one who reject him and expected ML will treat him as usual friend? ML also has his own freedom to distanced himself from MC, but no MC indirectly guilt-tripping ML with "since he's sick I'm going to care for him". The whole thing "I'm not gay" is annoying already, although it's sweet but I went from a fan to a hater, especially the author (or MC and his friends) mentioned "not gay" and "straight" in every 2-3 chapters. <<less

This novel was a super cute read! Cute and short. Complete fluff and comedy aspect. I can't say there's no angst because one of the character's has a sadder backstory but...

The main character, Chi Zhou, has a (one-sided) rivalry with a person from high school. Lu Shen is his arch nemesis. He's always at a competition with him. No matter if it's a serious competition like flying drones or an unserious competition like who makes it to class first. In the novel around the backstory arc, you learn a bit... more>> more about Lu Shen's side of things, but for a majority of the novel, you get Chi Zhou's view of their biggest competition yet and that is: who can withstand being gayest for the longest?

Chi Zhou and Lu Shen are "competing" in this silly acting gay test between the two. Who can say the more sickening embarrassing thing? Chi Zhou is always thinking of a way to thoroughly embarrass Lu Shen. Slowly over the course of it all, Chi Zhou is becoming bent. How is Lu Shen so good at being gay?!

Originally, I thought Chi Zhou's rivalry had more depth to it. It does, but not in the way I expected it to. He doesn't dislike Lu Shen. Not at all. Not ever. It's more like a miscommunication in his immature mind as a child that never got resolved and carried on misunderstood to adulthood. Chi Zhou's desire throughout the novel feels very natural, smooth, and executed very well from his feelings of "I need to compete with this guy" to "I want to be friends with this guy" to "I want to be gay with this guy."

Other characters in this are so good. I loved them all. Especially Chi Zhou's gay roommate who is a good person beside him that offers him advice in "getting bent." I kind of hate when h*mophobia is added in a story because I read to get away from all of that, so reading all of Chi Zhou's roommates being funny and lowkey rooting him on was a good read.

Very good translator! I don't remember seeing a single error. Very easy read and flow. Amazing job.

The only issue I have with this novel is kind of what starts it all: Lu Shen saying to the "amnesiac" Chi Zhou "I'm your boyfriend" when he asks who he is. Yes, Chi Zhou takes it as a competition that Lu Shen has started a battle to embarrass him! but the reality is that Lu Shen took advantage of his "amnesia" to be in a relationship with him. It's kind of... eh. Weird. When you think about it.

Other than that, Lu Shen is very respectable to Chi Zhou. He genuinely loves him and is devoted, even willing to bare through the pain of being only friends if Chi Zhou rejected him romantically in the end. The flirting is cute, and the one-sided fighting from Chi Zhou is genuinely so funny. Chi Zhou is smartly s*upid, and Lu Shen is s*upidly smart.

A review said they lowered the star rating because of the second extra which is a bit dramatic lol. It's an extra of current time Lu Shen dreaming of the past where he can fix his relationship with Chi Zhou. It's funny and cute, watching Chi Zhou get all confused and flustered about Lu Shen doing all these outright romantic things unprovoked out of nowhere. It's only weird to me that Lu Shen is probably mentally twenty-something and Chi Zhou is probably sixteen or seventeen. But I guess Chi Zhou is said to have not really changed since high school, so his personality between then and the current is very similar anyway. Still... Whatever. Extras are not the main storyline anyhow.

I rated it four out of five because of this and my other dislike of the novel. Lowering it to three out of five because of both is a bit harsh. A four out of five feels just right. They kind of feel like a modern, less in-depth, less tragic version of wangxian, especially with their personalities. It's definitely worth the read! A very quick read that's doable in a day if you wanted to. <<less

The ratings are super low at the time of this review, and I just wanted to boost this short novel up a little! I personally enjoyed it for what it is (short modern-campus love story), and the fake-amnesia concept is very fun as well!

Don't read if you're expecting lots of drama or major conflict; you can thoroughly turn off your brain for the logic since the power of love triumphs over all. The novel is short and sweet with only 41 chapters +2 extras, and it's packed with fluff and... more>> dog food at every turn! Would recommend as a nice breather from long novels/serials or from novels with heavy subject matters!

Spoiler

I wish we could learn more about MC's dorm mate who bent for a straight man's revenge, but the author doesn't focus too much on him. He's more of a precursor that MC's friends will love him regardless of orientation. Here's to hoping the author will give him a spin-off though!

Super cute short story, no angst just silly cuteness. The ML has liked the MC for a longtime, he’s like the sunshine in his life but due to some misunderstandings they didn’t get close during high school. The ML has always been different to the MC but he took it as rivalry and never realized it was a sort of liking. It’s funny how he took all the things together as a challenge and when they finally got together he was as silly as always. Sweet read.

Yo, this was so cute, embarrassing, sweet, and loving. My heart... aaahhh~

It has good pacing, good character growth, and there wasn't too much unnecessary drama or side plots. All the characters were amazing in their own way.

No doubt, I recommend for an adorakable read.

To be fair, this is quite a cute sweet loving theme. And it’s very light so not too much dramas.

Could have given full stars if not for the extra

Spoiler

the second extra in which the ML somehow turned back was unnecessary imo. Like it feels he started again from the beginning which doesn’t seem to change much. The first extra is nice, the second one doesn’t seem like a good what if scenario to me so yeah. Overall it’s a good right tho

This is the definition of "short and sweet". This is pure fluff but without being braindead. You can enjoy it without having to burden or turn off your brain, which is rare. I finished this in one sitting, just took a few hours. I won't say that I wish it were longer because I understand that its brevity is crucial for its charm. There is no messy drama, no face-slapping, no horrible villains, just cute fluff. I enjoyed it very much and it was a nice break.

Not a solid 5 star but just want to bump the rating up since it deservers more than 3.9 stars.

This is an enemy turned to lovers trope which is my most fave but for some reason, the 'I'm straight, I'm not gay' argument feels so annoying hence I'm not into it more than I imagined.

Also, I understand that it's for the plot but I can't seem to understand how someone could pretend they are lovers just to see his enemy suffer.

Although I had a guess that the MC may be interested with ML (in a romantic way) but didn't realize it. Still, thinking that you hate a person, why would you play pretend lovers with them?

I guess, to enjoy this novel, you need to not take things too seriously and just enjoy the moment. Which in my case didn't happen so I'm not too engrossed with it.

It's still worth the read to pass time, but not for a reread. <<less
