Ye Xi, a young man from Shanxiu Village, scalded his face with boiling water. The wealthy family from the neighboring village, who had arranged a marriage with him since childhood, broke off the engagement overnight.

The villagers all laughed at Ye Xi. Even the young men who were once uglier than him mocked him, whispering behind his back that he would never be able to marry.

After a while, a stranger came to Shanxiu Village. This man was tall and strong, with dark skin. He only carried a tattered bundle, bought a dilapidated thatched hut at the edge of the mountain, and settled down there.

The villagers didn’t dare approach him, fearing he was engaged in shady business.

Ye Xi had encountered him at the foot of the mountain and by the river. He knew that the man not only farmed well but also hunted and fished, and didn’t engage in gambling, drinking, or other vices.

He felt that this man was a truly good and dependable man.

One day, with half his face scarred from the burn, he pushed open the man’s door and, standing at the entrance, blushed and asked, “Will you marry me?”

The man finished the rice in his bowl, lifted his eyes to gaze at him, looked intently for a long moment, and said, “Marry.”

After getting married, there were hot dishes and warm porridge on the stove at home, the torn clothes were mended as if they were new, a group of chickens and ducks were raised in the yard, there were snow-white rabbits in the cage, and the fruits and vegetables in the vegetable garden grew lushly.

Lin Jiangshan looked at his new husband and sighed in his heart: “This is the life of a human being.”

The couple farmed for food, three meals a day, lived in the mountain village, loved each other, and lived a long and steady life.

(The burns will be cured, and it’s still that beautiful little husband!)

It's not thrilling and that's the point 💛

It's a chill read, a comfortable read about the daily life of an ordinary, farming family.

What I love about this novel are:

... more>> MC/ML didn't get amazingly rich (atleast by chap 65, idk yet afterwards). Their lives become better and they earn money but that's because they work hard and try to take advantage of every opportunity like they could've rested during the cold winter but they went and sold charcoal, etc.

The ML was a soldier but he was just an ordinary soldier, not a general or anything.

The ML had a cold personality at the beginning but as we go on, we see that the ML isn't aloof at all. He was just trying to survive in a place he didn't know anyone, couldn't trust anyone and was betrayed before so when MC and his family got along with him, it was endearing to see ML warming up to them, being playful with MC and taking the initiative to interact with others.

MC is referred to as "husband" by ML. It's a little thing but I like that the translator/author made ML refer to MC as husband because in almost all novels with gers or omegaverse, the MLs usually refer to MC as "wife"

What I kinda dislike but not really lol:

Beginning to until they were married was cute and sweet! But after MC and ML got married, there are bits of fluff but the story focused more on cooking. <<less

Decent slice of life story. It was engaging in places. My only complaints were the huge focus on cooking food, and how rushed the ending was. Oh, and some plot holes. Like the brother drops the midwife in the mud and that's the last you hear of her. Is she still there? Lol

Plus, the war, famine, and looters had a great buildup, and then it just moved on a few years with no mention again. Then, the end. It was a bit abrupt, and didn't feel... more>> as fully fleshed out as the first part of the story. <<less

Novel has good prospects and I'm optimistic of it's potential in giving me a warm and light hearted slice of life focused on farming. Kudos to the translator's efforts too! ≪3 Thank you for translating the novel!

Both MC and ML are unfortunate ones but are both strong in their own ways, choosing to strive forward instead of mope around in their misery. It's light hearted and warm, ML's changes not being too abrupt and the romance progresses fast but logically in this novel's context.

Comforting Sweet Heartwarming Slice Of Life story.

But it's not plain nor boring. Especially the start of the story till the Wedding.

While the Married Life we get to see our Main CP have a Harmonious life. Though we get some glimpse of the Villain Canon Fodders' life too.

No clue if there would be some big event happen or the story would have the same pace till the end.

Anyway MC and ML are Lovable Protagonists and Lovable Couple. And his Family and Friends all Good people. I'm LOVING IT!
