Yuan Xueyue, the overlooked illegitimate daughter of a Prefect, was bartered into marriage with Guo Liangxian, a rising soldier she barely knew. Her father, eager to gain favor, used her as a stepping stone, introducing the ambitious young man to Prince Xian. Five years later, Guo Liangxian returned a decorated General, his name echoing with newfound glory – and with a mistress on his arm.

Reborn into that fateful moment, Yuan Xueyue refuses to repeat her past. She remembers all too well the years of silent suffering, the constant neglect, and the final, agonizing year spent bedridden, ignored by her husband and scorned by his family. She remembers dying a broken woman, a victim of their ambition and indifference. She will no longer be the dutiful wife, silently enduring humiliation and raising a disloyal nephew while her husband flaunts his affections for another. Let the General have his victory, his honor, and his concubine! She will arrange a lavish ceremony, a final act of defiance before severing ties with the treacherous Guo family.

This time, she will not interfere with her adopted nephew’s wild spirit, nor will she waste her energy battling the favored concubine. Let them have their chaos. She, the House Master, is quitting! She’ll embrace a life free from their drama, quietly filing for divorce and leaving the General’s Residence to crumble under its own weight.

But fate, it seems, has other plans. As Yuan Xueyue orchestrates her escape, the General, finally realizing the value of what he’s lost, embarks on a desperate pursuit, only to find the door to her heart firmly closed. And Prince Xian, observing the unfolding drama with keen interest, whispers, “Luckily, you let go, or this Prince would never have found such a wonderful wife.” This time, Yuan Xueyue will write her own destiny, far from the gilded cage of the General’s Residence and into the arms of a man who truly sees her worth.

This story started out strong, then got long. Sadly not in the good way. To be fair backyard drama is a lot of repeat drama.

So much drama

it gets annoying with concubine Lin (or was it yin) constantly killing the child in her belly just to blame mu*der on others, and no matter how bad she acts or bad things she does as long as the man of the house likes her she can do whatever she wants with a slap on her wrist (she doesn’t see that and keep wanting more and more).

if I’m being honest the only punishment the concubine gets is confinement the wife aka FL get punishments and torments, seriously I’m glad we only get hints of her first life because if FL lived through all of this Plus caring for her no good hubby it’s a miracle she lived as long as she did. Can you imagine doing your best and always, Always getting blamed? There’s a reason she no longer cares, she no longer has the energy.

and the ML... I don’t know if I can feel bad for him or not

Spoiler

can’t help but wonder what the prince did to the family in the first life, I’m sure he investigated since she was his child his sweetheart (yeah I was surprised when I skipped to ~ chs 130’s). The guy obviously never investigated FL’s life when she was alive in both lives, but then again he was probably?? Respecting her privacy. The guys a Prince, would he have se ret guards??

the guy tries to help by helping the bad hubbys family, the general only for it to backfire because the general family thinks it’s the Hubby’s power when in fact it was ML’s support of FL. I guess the saying, ‘the road to hell is paved by good intentions’ is true here as well as power corrupts. The General literally tells the Prince he’ll treat his wife) FL) well but ten goes to favor the concubine with the money the Prince gave him, really the general is stepping all over he prince’s face. Even when the general brought out the concubine to the military and she made a Big blunder only for it to be temporary shame. Even mother in law, son and concubine trying to steal Fl’s dowery was forgotten, there’s absolutely no follow through.

This novel is, quite frankly, a disaster. The premise had potential—a neglected wife who finally decides to leave—but the execution is so incredibly sloppy that it's hard to take seriously. The plot is riddled with absurdity, the character decisions defy all logic, and the writing feels immature, almost as if it were written by a teenager making things up as they go.

Let's start with the husband. He is beyond idiotic. ... more>>
Spoiler

His mistress literally confesses to framing the main wife for trying to abort her child, and yet, instead of punishing her, he stays by her side. How does that make any sense?

A general who is supposed to be sharp and decisive is instead portrayed as a complete fool with no ability to think critically.

But he's not the only one. Every character in this novel seems to make the most ridiculous, nonsensical decisions.
Spoiler

Take the uncle, for example—this man actually decides to ask his own son to kill him just so the son can take revenge on the general.

What kind of convoluted, hair-pulling nonsense is that? It's so over-the-top and forced that it becomes laughable. The novel constantly tries to create dramatic moments, but instead, it just ends up feeling like a ridiculous soap opera with zero coherence.

Then there's the forced adoption subplot, which makes absolutely no sense. How is adoption something they're forced into with no discussion? It's like the author just needed to insert a random twist and didn't bother justifying it. And don't even get me started on the "ancestor prophecy" scene—this could have been a major plot point, yet after the prophecy comes true, the novel completely drops it like it never mattered in the first place.

Even the estate management aspect is a mess. At one point, the family want to force them to give are told 60% of their share, and thw ife tells them that 60% is owned by the prnice... ann so? can't they calin 60% of th 40% then—The level of sloppy writing here is insulting.

Honestly, this book is just one absurd, illogical event after another, full of plot holes and nonsense. The characters have no depth, their decisions make no sense, and the storytelling is a chaotic mess. It's like the author had a bunch of dramatic ideas but no idea how to string them together in a way that actually worked. If you're looking for a well-written rebirth or revenge novel, stay far away from this one. <<less

I give it a 3.2 star rating. I liked the premise of the story. It had great potential, unfortunately it didn’t materialize. Since I was reading the MTL, I’m not sure if it was really the writing quality or if it was the MTL. The writing was going around in circles — “ I know I wronged her that’s why she is cold with me. I want to get to know her better but she is so cold with me. So, go to my concubine. I’m not being good to... more>> her, but she is not doing anything to make me be good to her” — like that!

I didn’t entirely dislike the story, hence the 3.2 star rating. <<less
