It wasn't instant love on the FL's side in that she's very practical and tried to deflect the ML several times. The assistants are hilarious and the family relationship for both characters is wonderful. The ML's persistence pays off in the end. It's just that the author made the 2nd male lead very weak in that he had no chance at all with FL and no character development at all. The female antagonists were all pretty 2 dimensional and not interesting at all.

I really cant believe that I was able to finished reading this novel. It was good, but not that great, there was really no daily face slapping happened as the title suggested. The FL character is inconsistent most of the time, the ML POV was not explained well, so I dont know how or when he gets to like the FL, it was just so sudden. Honestly the rating would be 3 but after reading tragic novel this week, this one helps me calm, so ill rate this 4 instead.

Its fluff, its cute, but its kinda flat. I thought the reason ML fall in love with FL because he was the crown prince, he has the same face with cp so I expected something about their past, maybe some unfinished feeling bc FL get assasinate in their wedding ceremony. I dont know if it got explained in the latter chap since I stop reading in the middle.

ML fall in love to fast, and FL who first said didnt want any relationship suddenly head over heel with ML after ML... more>> kiss her. She said she wanna keep it private, and then decide to act casually as a lover just because its doesnt matter anymore. Everything its just to fast.

But if you looking some light novel, and doesnt matter with minor illogical chara (its really minor) you can give it a try <<less

So the beginning of the novel was quite nice. The characters are likeable and had strong potential. But as the story goes on it feels bland and a lot of words without substance or just unnecessary. At first I like the FL but after they got together her shyness irks me cause it's too much. I mean it was fine at first but there's no development she keeps getting shy. I couldn't find the last chapter! TT^TT

This was so cute and so fluffy. Her past life does not matter that much imo. Replace the heroine with a true modern woman and the plot will still be the same. Her ancient talents like embroidery, playing the guzheng, calligraphy are not really featured and were only mentioned in passing. So there's really no point into making MC an ancient China person. I guess it helped her in acting, but still, it's a minor thing. ML doesn't really have much of a character... more>> development, but he's the perfect lover so I guess it's fine. The first 24 chapters were beautiful and I was intrigued so I MTL'd it. I was also very fond of showbiz novels that was whg I had high hopes for this one... WELL, turns out its not so beautiful at all.

Disregarding the first few chaps where ML's feelings were without basis (that I thought would get explained by a feeling of familiarity because ML looked like the crown prince in MC's past life), MC also agreed to the relationship very easily even if her feelings were not really that deep—... more>> and her reason also does not include her past life. It created a sense of dissonance in the whole novel since she was portrayed as a cold and reasonable MC— also it was quite annoying to read how she's always blushing whenever he's with ML. I thought this would be reasonable mature novel but it went downhill.

The sense of transmigration also disappeared as quickly as it came. I thought there would be explanations or something in the end but there was nothing, its like the author even forgot that she was a transmigrator. I also quite hoped that her manners or habits hold a bit of her past life but alas...

Anyhows, main CP's feelings were without basis and it was rather cliché to read their scenes together. <<less

I started reading this since I was curious how her character being originally from the ancient times would affect her career as an actress. Like many other reviews said, except for her cooking and some small scenes of her playing musical instruments, she barely used them at all, which is pretty disappointing.

Another problem I have is that her acting roles aren't distinguishable from each other at all. As far as I remember, her roles don't even have names, I can't even recall if the movies and TV shows she participates... more>> in even have titles. So when she gets bashed for stealing a role from so and so, I have no idea which role she is being bashed for. And when she attends an event for a movie I have no idea which role she's promoting at all. Not sure if I missed it because I read mostly from MTL but nothing really sticks out to me. <<less

kinda wish the author would divulge more about what happened after MC's death in her previous life (or did I miss this part in the story? I read until the fanwai/extra, but it's only about MC giving birth). Since ML was described by MC to have some similarities with the crown prince she married to before, I kind of assumed that the current ML is his reincarnation or something who might get a flashback of his past life anytime in the future. But so far until the end of story, he didn't yet🤣

Hmm... initial impression is that this novel is a decent read on a slow weekend haze. The characters are what you'd usually expect from a showbiz drama. Face-slapping here, face-slapping there and a dash of romance as the additive flavor. The problems Su Su encountered are repetitive but it's not exactly a serious read, so take this with a grain of salt and just enjoy the light read. At least the MC is not an annoying sleaze hohoho

Its not too bad and not too good. It just so-so. At first, the story is nice and good but as I read, I could see tge repetition of story as she got a new role in drama and the news come out as saying she snatch other actress role. This scene not only happen one but repeat over and over again.

It somehow a bit disappointed as why must the author repeat the same storyline again and again. I read this as its a showbiz but somehow I cannot finish... more>> it as the other novel with the same genre.

The character of FL and MlL is good but the storyline is too much repetition. <<less

An easy read. I am in a bit of a reading block right now and nothing seems to pick up my interest hence why I shall not judge this book right now. Will come back to finish reading it later on as usually I am a fan of light and fluffy novels.

I thought if I just keep on going I'll get to the end but I can't anymore.

There are two problems in this story, one is MC and the other is the ml.

MC came here from the past but other than it being mentioned and her playing instruments/cooking/calligraphy it doesn't do anything honestly. She's initially happy that in the modern times women aren't property of men and she can have a career which she wants to focus on (as she says so many times) but then the ML confesses and she... more>> accepts while setting rules which she throws out the window shortly later. From then she just turns into an obedient partner and what feels like a future submissive wife.

As for the "career she wants to focus on" in later chapters

after she sleeps with ML for the first time he jokes how she's probably already pregnant and she just goes on discussing a script she wants to take... how very responsible I guess?because being pregnant will not interfere heavily with her busy schedule and put her career on hold so why bother trying to prevent getting pregnant, right?

It makes all her earlier words sound like a joke, like good for them to be together and have a family but they didn't even get married and already got working on children

Those novels are written by women aren't they? Makes me wonder just how allergic chinese are to any type of birth control and what makes it even funnier I almost exclusively see birth control in chinese novels when they're set in ancient times, wear a c*ndom for god's sake

Then the other problem would be the ml...

The first we meet the ML he's the cold and rude type and his entire road from making MC not bother him to getting in relationship with her is... eating her food, that's it, that's all it takes for him to start following her. And he's surprised she doesn't throw herself at him when he shows the smallest amount of interest in her like ???????????

After they get into a relationship, every time the two are together the ML is busy being possessive or trying to put his hands on her - with the obligatory "it's hard for me to control myself but I'll do it for you" (????? The mindset that always creeps me out, is man an untrained dog or what??? But he still "presses her down" for kissing whenever he wants and holds her tight enough she can't escape), or sometimes he's busy with his mood swings so he can ask how will MC "make him feel better" (not like that, he's just jealous like a toddler when mc's all attention isn't on him)

Look even the toxic red flag mls dote on their partners and there's 0 doting in this story, the ML is just clingy and possessive (and thirsty, honestly with how handsy he is you'd think he'd be in and out a club every day and night but he's supposed to be 'never interested in any woman before' type which shows how bad the writer is at creating characters) while MC pretends to build her career while mentally turning into ml's possession at a speed of sound.

Having complained about these 2 enough (not nearly enough tbh orz) I should mention the plot: MC starts off going from set to set which at first is easy to follow but later on I find confusing which movie or drama they're talking about at the moment, the entire thing focuses on mc's interactions with people around her while trying to build her career (and being with ML or thinking of him). There's no conflict, there's no drama, no face slapping, I struggle to remember any interesting happening in this story and I just gave up in the middle of binging it.

In short: it's a tepid story about a wifey like MC who's stron in name and toddler tempered ML who decided she's his <<less

This was a relatively quick and cute read. The FL was too tsundere for me. It’s nearly 90% the ML who puts in all the effort in the relationship. Good thing it works for the ML but I’d have long been sad by her behavior. I think she only visits him once on site, the rest is all him flying back just to spend a day with her and he’s always the one calling her but she complains that he doesn’t come see her. Hard mouth, soft heart I guess.... more>> Nearly all the female actresses were snarky and most the male actors were cool. The ending felt abrupt as if there should be more. <<less

Someone said MC and ML doesn't seems to have a chemistry, which I absolutely agree with this one.

The plot about entertainment industry was quite interesting. I feel like the storyline about MC's journey as a 18 line actress is more interesting that her romance.

When the romance between MC and ML were developed, I feel nothing. There's no such an excitement of wanting them to quickly become together.

Insipidly insipid.

I was heavily tempted to see how many times I could work that word into my review because the author/translator simply loves that word. It gets used about every 2 chapters and from various characters but mainly the MC and the ML.

It also kind of fits this story. Things happen but it still doesn't feel like anything. I was promised Daily Face Slapping but the face slapping is very lacking. The relationship also moves very fast chapter wise but it's supposed to be over the course of months (as... more>> it mentions the MC and the ML often spend time working on their respective movies).

The MC is kind of bland. She suddenly transmigrates (or is reborn and just remembered) into the body of an actress but with all the memories of the host's life. This means she adapts to the 21st century pretty fast and then just outright decides she will be an actress like the original host wanted. She is also strangely shy while getting courted despite her origin as a shu daughter who managed to manipulate her way into marrying the crown prince. It seems like the rebirth/transmigration was just an excuse for why a modern girl would know the four arts and three principles. Even her attitude to the host's parents is more like a loving daughter rather than someone who had taken over the body.

The ML looks like the crown prince she was supposed to marry in her past life but that's about it. He's also the first to fall in love and actively pursues her until they start dating. It's also made clear that he's older but this is his first relationship. He also acts like the stereotypical guy who "can't stop eating meat once he's had a taste" and constantly wants to kiss the FL. He doesn't push for s*x though, he'll instigate but will only continue if the MC says so. Their relationship starts out relatively quickly and the story quickly degenerates into fluff.

The two of them going back and forth about the other not doing dangerous stunts was kind of cute. She told him not to skydive or do anything dangerous before returning to film her own movie. She ends up doing a dangerous stunt (as they needed to see her face) and he just happens to show up during it.

It's a nice story if you just want snapshots about actresses and the guy who is totally obsessed with her but there really isn't anything to this story beyond that.

All that aside, I am always eternally grateful to people translating works for us to read but I feel like I need to put a note here about the translator's website. Occasionally the "next" button takes you to a request to donate or opens a new tab instead of continuing in the same tab. It's a minor inconvenience but adding that here because I know this can offset some readers. <<less

I just checked out "Film Empress's Daily Face-Slapping" on the link you provided, and I have to say, it's quite an intriguing story! Su Shen's journey from a concubine's daughter to the Crown Prince's consort, only to become a "flower vase" actress, is a twist I didn't expect. The sudden improvement in her acting skills and proficiency in the four arts adds an exciting layer to the plot. The interview with the host and the revelation about her relationship with Xie Yan only piqued my interest further. I'm definitely excited... more>> to watch this drama on a movie streaming platform. Fluffy romance with a happy ending. It brought to mind the saying that when cold personalities fall in love they become very devoted lovers. It did seem as if him liking her was a little sudden though. I also feel like her coming from the past was an excuse to give her a bunch of talents which she rarely used, and then were never spoken of again. Dripping here. I don't know if it's good for some, but I actually don't find it horrendous but not my cup of tea as of the moment. I'm in for a lighthearted—if not, then at least, it should be heartwarming. But this story, from the very beginning frustrated me. I understand though, as the host, who just died ridiculously, isn't good at acting. However, understanding and enjoying it are different. I didn't enjoyed it because the negativities are influencing my mood. Also, I've read from the few comments that there's... more>> no face slapping? The more reason not to continue (if it's really true) then. After all, I can endure the FL being wronged but not her being a pushover. I understand how the ML just fell in love with her without any valid reason because they say that love doesn't need much reason. I understand that she's being lowkey with her skills because she doesn't want to arouse suspicions from the host's family even if the author is painting her as someone very proficient with the 4 arts I understand those suspicious points but I can't really tolerate a pushover FL. If she wants to be lowkey, fine. But it's indeed better if the author just didn't design her with such mastery but didn't used it. It's like having a car but still choosing to walk to reach a 1 kilometer destination. Sure, all path will lead to Rome as the saying goes, but let's be honest, who would want to take the longer route if there's an easier (and justifiable) way? Also, the FL can just push the blame to the host's grandfather, right?

Anyway, my main points of dropping this is the frustration because of the brainless fans and cannon fodders, and second, the FL's inability to fight back. It's really tiring. But nevertheless, the a star for the author's efforts and the other for the translator's work. <<less

3.7 to 3.8 I would like to say, I don't hate peaceful romance but the romantic is really feel kind of superficial the setting actually good but I agree the execution was not so good, many details go switch on and off sometimes they detailed it sometimes not (and the not part is the point to build the romance...) although author maybe want to take a route of ''love doesn't have to had a reason'' but at least you need to expressed ml's opinion about MC, I mean.. write it..... more>> not just show us how he take care of her, say that he doing this and that, the passer by is just it, I give it rating more that 3.7 is bcs they sweet, light, and not annoying <<less
