By some freak coincidence, Song Ci mistakenly consumed the blood of the Demon King, causing himself to become a demon too. A weak scholar…… forced to suffer in silence.

What was even more tragic was that no matter where he went, demons would attack him from all directions braying for his blood, or they would squeeze his neck while interrogating him about his relationship with the Demon King.

As such, Song Ci became an anti-fan of the Demon King. Regardless of who praised the Demon King, he would be the first to stand out and refute them.

Song Ci fled for his life as he searched for the gate leading to the Demon Realm. Along the way, he clung on to the thigh of an influential man, and went to great pains to persuade him to slay the Demon King together with him and restore peace to the human world.

Song Ci, “Sooner or later, I will skin the Demon King, rip the tendons off him, and drink his blood!”

Rong Bai (smiling), “I admire the way you think.”

Who knew that, after entering the demon realm —

Tens of thousands of monsters bowed their heads and kowtowed to this thigh beside him and shouted “Long live the Demon King!”

Song Ci was stunned.

Rong Bai (smiling), “What did you say you were going to do when you came to the Demon Realm?”

Song Ci, “It, it’s all a misunderstanding……”

There is nothing worse than a novel that start greatly but plummeted down so hard at then end. It is already great at start. If the author keep it as it is then it good. But the last arc. Was so all over the place. Like cramming everything in last arc is just not good. A lot of unnecessary flashback, new characters introduced at the LAST ARC. The second last arc was already good to end the story. But idk what happened. It just ruined the story imo. I skipped... more>> literally most of it to go to ending. When I read so passionately before that. So all others review kinda say the same. <<less

I have mixed feelings towards this novel. It had a really, really good start. So good that for one moment I thought I was reading Mo Dao Zu Shi again. The characters are interesting and likeable, the set up is good, we have a goal and they are moving towards it. The first two arcs pass nicely, though she does overuse the strained lovers trope.

The main arc however... yikes. It just felt like it fell apart. The characters she introduced earlier went basically missing, villains in and out stage... more>> left and right, and while

the time travel plot has the potential to be really interesting, it was too full of plot holes to make sense.

It’s like it required reading the other novels to make sense. I get the feeling instead that she just gave up a bit at the end.

The translation is really very good besides a few shallow grammar mistakes which bumps up the rating. <<less

The Book is amazing but by time it's getting collapsed (I don't know why this can happend, but I think it's maybe because this novel still continue and have other series???) Well im not reading other book yet, and I think I may change my rating after read the other book.

(The reason I give three star is because there is to much hole and character that out of no where when it come to the end of the story...)

Part of a series, so it kinda feels like some things are missing. The novel gets confusing at times, but the overall plot was clear. I did wonder if it was unnecessarily convoluted, but it felt good, so I guess it's alright.

When I saw that it was a "fox demon" MC, I though the MC might turn out weak and coquettish. The MC did start out weak, but he was never really coquettish, just trying to hold onto the ML's thigh shamelessly. Yup, MC's quite shameless. I'm glad that he... more>> didn't feel like a wimp even though he started out weak. I kinda didn't like how random the powerups were, but hey, at least the MC got stronger! The side characters are nice! Man, everything in this story starts out normal, gets sad, then gets alright? I was honestly quite surprised by some twists. The angst in the novel was pretty decent.

It was an alright read, perhaps a bit messy, but the characters were fun! I'd like to see the other novels in the series translated someday. <<less

This novel was a great read for me, like I really enjoyed the story line and obviously love Rong Bai and Song Ci, duh. Also, it gave me Heaven Official's Blessing and the Legendary Master's Wife vibes, like there were quite a few similarities. I feel like the author is also a big danmei fan because of this hehe.

The translation was also done extremely well too, so thank you for spending your time on this novel.

There were some parts of the story that did have me in a bit of... more>> confusion, but the author wrote some notes at the end to help clear up the confusion so I'm glad for that.

I really wanted this novel to carry on, because it didn't really say much about the devil king, and then at the end it said that there was another novel called Mo zun (魔尊也在逃命) that tells more of the story of the devil king, but I couldn't find an english translation of it. I'm not sure if there is an english tranlation or not, but I really want to read Mo zun too. <<less

This novel has too little reviews ah!

I don't have much too say about this novel; Translation was perfect, it was a really nice read. It was refreshing, had a meaningful plot but not heavy; exactly what I was looking for. Both ML, MC, and hell even secondary characters had definite, coherent, and likable personalities. Romances scenes were super cuter, and honestly I lovedddd the development of the romance on this one. And kudos to being probably the only book that has a chapter that is 95% fight scene that I... more>> read without skimming. Super engaging.

For cons, I would say the pacing/ the way events are "glued" together/ plot or characters conflict resolutions SOMETIMES fall flat/ are kinda weird. This happens more later in the story, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but it could have been written better. Ending was a bit rushed. But alas, the plot itself and the writing overall are good, so I think this is just a matter of " this author is an amateur and probably doesn't have an experienced editor either". This author also... doesn't treat women too kindly in this story? I'm not saying that there shouldnt be female villains, but if there's barely any women in your story AND all of them but one are b*tches, that's kind of not cool dude. Who hurt you? What did she do?

But in a wordbuilding, characterization, and romance sense, this person has a lot of talent. I hope to read their future works and see them mature <<less

It's a pretty good relaxing story. It's a little bit slow but personally, I really enjoy those stories, especially compared to love-at-first-sight ones.

I like all the characters; the MC is timid but also sometimes gutsy, and has grown quite a bit. The side characters are pretty interesting too. There's quite a bit of world-building, and a "bigger tale" behind the scenes, but I think it'll step it up a notch with this main arc having them go back in time. I think it'll probably paint a really cool picture that... more>> connects a lot of different things together, so I'm pretty excited for it. The entire story has that kind of artful feel to it, where the author is just slowly unveiling pieces of the story to us and one day we'll see the whole picture and be blown away.

Thanks to the translator for doing a great job as well!! The translation is great and so is upload speed. Very very appreciated!

I highly recommend people that like this story read Heaven Official's Blessing, it has a very similar vibe. And also The Founder of Diabolism, for another INCREDIBLE (!!!!!!) slow burn story. <<less

This is a 2.5 at best, and ranks higher than The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish.

Maybe because it's a series and some characters' ends aren't tied here but in the other books in the series so some plot threads were left cold and split from the picture? Or maybe it's because of the anime filler episode-like ending? Or maybe it's the janky (read: sudden) pacing of Rong Bai and Song Ci's dynamic development that sorta felt all over the place? Can't lie that this made me interested in The Demon... more>> Lord Is Fleeing For His Life Again Today and Your Ninth Royal Highness, Please Change Your Clothes though, with all the supposed character cameos are. Some aspects were executed decently though, so it's not an entirely rotten experience despite the misgivings I typed down, but it's decent at best and at least average. It had an interesting premise though, and the comedic parts slapped better because the characters know well enough to clown each other or to lament the position they're in.

main characters → ★★★☆☆ (they're average. I like the touch on delving deeper into song ci's past later on. Tushan rongbai wasn't really interesting to me even if I pitied him for his background.)

side characters → ★★☆☆☆ (not particularly strong but some staple personalities do make themselves known pretty well.)

plot → ★★★☆☆ (the

in my head, it started slow and the drag through the arcs were pretty painful especially at first)

dynamic investment → ★★☆☆☆ (i mean I guess I get the sentiment behind the How and Why of their pairing but that doesn't mean it resounds with me. It feels a bit rushed and cheap to me.)

pacing → ★★★☆☆ (not too fond of how it dragged, but maybe that's just me wanting to quit halfway through and mot following with it)

overall satisfaction (aka how willing am I to reread this, consume fanworks, or actually keep the characters here and their world in my brain not as a stain to sneer on but to fondly recall?) → ★★★☆☆ (nah, no rereads except maybe for information on heavenly demons and hierarchies and stuff) <<less

A good read. Just enough mystery to keep you wanting to read but, like some of the reviews pointed out, the first and second half of the book are two different books. Especially once it hits the final arc. The episodic pace of the first few arcs were quite interesting. Just something to pass time and few to read in general. Those are worth rereading for the fun of it.

What happens in the summary lasts for maybe less than a chapter. After this, it all changes but it's not necessarily... more>> a bad change. Just different. I don't typically like s*upid characters so I enjoyed character development the second half.

Once the "main theme" hit (the author will tell you), it like a whole other book starts with new goals, personality traits. And way of story telling. The pacing gets a little confusing because of our unreliable narrator. New history unravels with our main characters pursuing complete opposite personalities. I did cry at some of the parts here.

The final arc is the main reason why I gave it a 4 star rating. It's unnecessary finish it like that. This is my own opinion but authors shouldn't purposely write the ending as an advertisement for the next series. It's distasteful. As for the reason why the ending is so weird? The author said it herself that this book wasn't meant to be written. (It's no wonder the book gets progressively quicker in pace towards the end.)

All in all, it was a good read. Just don't go in thinking this book will have the same comedic undertone the whole way through. <<less

This book was made to heal the soul, and very intelligent writing since it really isn't a main story, more like a delve into secondary characters, I loved how they integrated the other stories in a way that opens up holes in the story to be filled in so that does not conflict with the objective of the book, but it brings more curiosity in relation to the other books.

The characters are very complex and have their own pains and problems, with problems that sometimes are the fault of protagonists... more>> from another story, showing situations from another angle.

The relationship between the protagonists is truly enviable, it made me doubt whether one day I could have a love so pure, true and trustworthy, it is a love that brings deep satisfaction just by reading it and seeing that it has not been tainted with unnecessary toxicity.

The fact that it gave a concrete ending but clearly created an open path for the continuation in another book is incredible, it's as if they had built a foundation for the relationship so that the real story could then begin, which in this case will be from the perspective of another character. Which does not bring any feeling of loss.

It's not the most complex story but the writing itself is incredible and the characters really carve a path to your heart.

Sorry for the writing errors, English is not my first language, and even if I understand it well, writing is still complicated. <<less

The time travel arc was pretty weird and random I’m kinda confused why he did it? Like if Rong Bai willingly decided not to live why are you forcing him to live by going back in time??? It would have made more sense if someone was trying to kill him and not that he willingly decided he didn’t want to live anymore??

[collapse]

It was so rushed after the first two arcs in my opinion. The relationship felt weirdly forced and I see people talking about how they didn’t like the complete 360 personality change between the 2 characters but I kind of understand why they had such a change so it’s not really a big deal to me personally and I see it more as a character growth.

The side character stories are CHEFS KISS I was sobbing crying at one of them...

This was actually a lot of fun to read up until the last two or so arcs. Each arc is like a mini story revolving around different side characters, and despite these side characters grabbing the focus away from the actual main leads of the story, their (often tragic) stories are engaging enough that it's easy to get attached to them. My favourite arc is the one about the tragic romance of a pair of martial brothers. The first half or so of the novel was great. The problem started... more>> around the end of the Tu Shan RongBai arc, because it was pretty obvious that the author rushed the last arc, the one that was focused on the MC Song Ci's own backstory. The conclusion of the novel was far from satisying, and a lot of questions remained unanswered. Apparently Song Ci and Rong Bai are side characters that appear in another novel by the author, and that's why the ending of this novel left so much unanswered. I really dislike the idea that I have to read another novel centered around entirely different characters to get the supposed full experience of this one. I don't think that is how this is supposed to work. In Tian Ya Ke for example, you don't have to read Qi Ye just to get a satisfying conclusion. If you want a bit more background about Zhou Zishu's character, you can go ahead and pick up Qi Ye, but if you don't it doesn't really matter that much because Tian Ya Ke still stands on its own.

Song Ci and Rong Bai are fun characters and their romance was really cute, so the way this story was concluded was so disappointing. The last arc was so important to Song Ci's character and it's annoying how the author just sped through it. Another more minor complaint are the female characters. I don't really mind if the danmei I read have very little female characters in them tbh, but I do mind very much if literally all the female characters in a story are b*tchy, evil women. Every single woman in this story (apart from one side character that disappears randomly after a short while) are all evil and b*tchy, like jealous concubines in palace harem dramas.

I enjoyed this enough to give it 3 stars, and because I liked the main CP and the tragic side characters a lot. The side CP is also really cute. It's such a shame the author didn't keep up the quality of the writing until the end. The characters deserve a lot better. <<less

This story has a really fun premise, really cool characters but then such a terrible, terrible execution.

The first two arcs are fine, but by the third the problem becomes just really evident and difficult to ignore - every single plot has to be told through a dream or an illusory realm.

I really hate illusory realm plots in other novels, but I just put up with them since you will have one or two arcs where they show up for a few chapters. Here every few chapters a new one comes... more>> up.

The author took the advice "show, don't tell" TOO literally. Characters can't mention their past or have other characters mention it, the MC has to LIVE through the experience of every plot relevant (and irrelevant) thing.

Spoiler

In the third act at least 3 different plot devices were used in sequence so the MC could get the full story in illusory realms. All of this after half the arc was spent with every character just acting over the top ridiculously mysterious and going "ooooh we could tell you but it will so much better for you to figure the mystery out yourself!!! " to the MC. In the end, he did not figure jack sh*t out! He just watched it like a TV show! What was all of the preamble even for!

After this arc just gets WORSE.

The MC goes to the ML's for a reason but it ends up feeling like just another plot device for us to see if all, almost as bad as just a flat out illusory realm. In the past we then have the following:

  • The MC and ML share dream realm and this is how the MC realize the MLs feelings.
  • A character bewitches the MC so he is stuck in a dream.
  • Another character mid conversation casts the MC into another illusory realm for like two chapters as like, a part of the conversation.
  • The MC decides to read a scroll on the supposed History of a clan of some Deities except WAIT in the divine realm you do not read words -
you go into an illusory realm inside the scrolls! Also the scenes recorded in the scroll are exclusively the story of the ML and his mother which could be summarized more poignantly in like three or four lines of actual real world dialogue.

All this was one arc, just one thing after the other. Each chapter either started an illusory realm segment, ended it, or was fully inside one.

When the arc ends, the next arc starts and half way into its first chapter the MC gets trapped into... You guessed it, an illusory realm.

This is MADDENING.

[collapse]

We are introduced to ghosts, their lovers and their enemies - a bunch of different characters that could indirectly and directly tell us their stories. Instead, all every character does is vaguely foreshadow the 'mystery' and exclusively have lengthy conversations if it is to expose the worldbuilding. In the end the MC just sees everything that was hinted at in a new illusory realm.

If the author had stepped back once or twice and allowed SOMETHING, ANYTHING to be even slightly ambiguous this would have been such a fun read.

Spoiler

A simple example:

The most egregious case - the scroll you go into to see the full story with the mother. Two of the MLs siblings are introduce in the story, one who despises the MLs mother and another who seems to like her (and likes the ML). If these two had commented on her from different views, and then the scroll with the History of TuShan had a simple READABLE LINE that said something like 'Year XXI of the Peaceful Era. For failing in her childrearing duties and allowing Tu Shan Bai, heir of the Tu Shan clan, to come into mortal peril, Rong Sang was sentenced to death. " we would have half the story told.

You could then keep her corpse in the MLs dreams, and just have him mention the flowers he tried to foolishly get for her. Include a portrait of him with black hair next to the his mother in the book, and a few rude comments from a clan member about his childhood and you could have the whole sad tale. If done well, it could even hit harder.

There are just so many ways to tell a story that do not involve like four or more dream/illusory realms PER 20 CHAPTER ARC.

[collapse]

End rant. <<less

thoughts

mixed impression of this story. The narrative style feels very disjointed - and not only because the arcs are episodic - but because scenes dont flow well. Ie; dialogues that dont match with whats going on, worldbuilding inconsistencies that werent explained, rapidly switching scenes that are hard to follow, characters that show up for no reason and look out of place, things happen but completely lacks impact.

song ci's kind of a weird guy. His early personality is basically a weak and grovelling kiss-ass. Has an extreme case of tunnel vision as he somehow missed every single sign that rong bai is the demon king. He starts to get his sh*t together in the chessboard arc, and finally gets some character development in his flashback arc.
Spoiler

what I do appreciate is how earlier on we were misled to believe that song ci had a picture perfect rich life in the capital, loved his family and didnt want to leave them behind -- when in fact the whole 'demon blood corrupting him' was probably his excuse to run away. He suffered from childhood ab*se, neglect, and ridicule from peers, and readers didnt get an inkling of that until it was laid bare in his flashback. Song ci compartementalizes a lot and that makes him an unreliable narrator, BUT I like this little twist because it adds a bit of flair to his character.

[collapse]

rong bai for the majority of the story felt like wallpaper lol. Tho I guess theres a canon reason for that. He finally shined in the flashback arc, where we see him at the mercy of his clan, the events that traumatized his childhood and the reason he keeps to himself, but still willing to open up and fall in love. As cliche at it was, I liked how dedicated he was towards song ci and willing to lock away part of himself to immortalize song ci's memory forever. It was a bit tragic, and I think this part of the story was well done.

ending feels terribly incomplete and reason being because the author is trying to push the sequel. Not a fan of this marketing gimmick because this is its own story and deserves its own ending. overall? Pretty forgettable. <<less

Hilarious, adventure-packed story with a cute couple!

I love the dynamic between MC and ML. The MC, our utterly loveable dork, is shameless, naive and timid (for most of the series). His character growth will make you fall for him even more.

... more>> The humor is on point! Seriously, FDCM has some of the best laugh-out-loud moments. That said, there are some angsty and gut-wrenching moments that will definitely make you cry.

As I adore the romance between MC & ML, I wish we have more time to explore them as a couple together. While the last chapter + extra are lovely (and smutty), it feels as if we skip forward the healing part for my two babies, considering their past separation & suffering.

Same thing for some of the side couples. The ending for couples in the first two arcs feels inconclusive. They deserve an extra IMO. As for the other side characters, I hope there will be screentime for them in the third installment.

Since FDCM is written as the second part of a trilogy, the ending is not fully wrapped up. While I love the first two arcs of the series, the second part of FDCM is quite messy. It feels cramped with new characters' introduction and set-up for the third installment. The ending feels rushed, with several plot points left unresolved.

Despite the inconsistency, I love FDCM for its hilarity, romance, loveable cast (main + side characters), and complex world-building. I will definitely read the prequel & sequel when fully translated! <<less

The book is a pretty fun read. The characters have substance to them and the romance is sweet. Although, towards the ending arc they are pretty out of character as stated by in other reviews. Nevertheless, the book is a good light read to pass time. It's narrated well and translation quality is top notch. We get to uncover the story with the MC Song Ci, instead of the usual right in your face narration. I pretty much enjoyed most of the arcs except the Yin-yan array arc (ending... more>> arcs) that began so weirdly. Anyway, the book is good enough, so I do recommend people to try it. <<less
