Heroic Death System

“I curse you to never die in peace!”

Thus, Shang Ke started a never-ending cycle of constantly throwing away his miserable life.

He would always show himself as a martyr while letting others cry over his death.

It was because of a woman’s curse that Shang Ke was hit by a car and turned into a human vegetable. This led to him becoming bound by an unlucky system in which he was cursed to die. The most unfortunate part was that he never cheated on anyone’s feelings. The reason for why he was cursed by a woman was because of a guy named Qi Chen. Qi Chen was a ladies man, and he would always use Shang Ke as an excuse to break up with any woman that he was with. As a result, Shang Ke was always blamed for the breakups. Since then, the main character could only be forced to cross into different worlds. He would thus experience for himself, the hero’s “thrill”.

This is one of my favourite BL stories,

I swear the arcs are all unique and although some of them are the cliche arcs you see in other bl stories. I'm not going to spoil anything's, BUT some of the arcs like Arc 8 really reminded me of Detroit Become Human for some reason, and Arc 7 really reminded me of the movie Dolphin Tale (although they aren't that similar).

Although I must say, ML is just kinda depressing, every arc he ends up crying while clutching MC in his arms.... more>> Plus some (most) arcs he is just kinda obsessive over MC. Anyways you get annoyed then feel bad for him.

I definitely recommend this though!!!! <<less

Honestly this novel has a lot of potential. However, there is alot of things wrong with it. I don't know if anyone else noticed the complete personality swap in the ML that took place in between the first world and the second but It threw me off. The world's after that he doesn't really care about the MC the MC is more like a trophy then his lover. And the MCs character keeps getting worse. Plus he is an extreme enabler. I picked up and put down this story multiple... more>> times just becuase honestly it started off really good. The very beginning despite not much actually happening it sets a good toan. It shows you what this story is about and when I first read it I was entranced with it it pulled me in and didn't let go. That was up until world 4. That is where I dropped it the first time. World four was the first world where I truly felt the story was going downhill. I mean world two wasn't the best and world three it felt like the Arthur was kinda tired of writing but they where still good and enjoyable and still semi stuck to the right path. But world four started out good but then in the middle of it I couldn't help but wonder what I was reading. I pushed through world 4 only to stumble onto world five which was not the best follow up. When I read it again I made a calculated decision to skip over world 4 and world five turned out to be half way decent.

The ML seemed like a whole other person and was steadily getting worse but the rest of it was ok. Even though I was disappointed that the novel started so great but steadily was getting worse I pushed on with the thought that it would get better. And then six came and I felt like it was right for me to read on becuase the beginning started off so good that it made me remember why I was reading in the first place. Sadly that ened quickly as this is when the male lead became extremely r*pey yes world five had moments but it was really bad in world six. And then kept getting worse. From other reviews it doesn't seem the story gets better. And it definitely won't live up to my expectations.

The story can be enjoyable for others and it does have enjoyable moments but I personally can't bring myself to read more. I can say the beginning made my expectations to high and that is my fault. If I had lowered my expectations from the beginning I probably would have found it more enjoyable. I may try reading this again my only regret is I can't read the begining for the first time again. Honestly the beginning and how unique it is is the only thing giving it three stars.

Spoiler

I just wanted to say this becuase It bothers me just a little but I couldn't get over the fact that in arc seven it implies that dolphins breath under water, I say implies becuase they never out right stated that but dolphins hold their breath and are only under water up to 20 mins they are usually only under there for ten. It doesn't really matter like at all but I noticed that two lines In and haven't stopped thinking about it and need to get it off my chest. Like yeah I can assume that if they can shape-shift they can breath underwater and stuff but this was before the shape-shifting and its been stuck in my head :' (

[collapse]

Anyway I want you guys to remember that this is just my opinion and it shouldn't effect your own. If you like it you like it don't let what other pepole say change that. <<less

this novel's only good things are the main character and some ML in certain worlds, the kids and the author's creativity sometimes. other than that, this story is full of holes, unexplained plots, and questionable things.

MC is certainly lovable and charming, he was the reason why I decided to ignore the red flags and shortcomings of this novel. the things ML did to him though, I dislike that he just brushed it all off. his way of thinking sometimes is also questionable.

ML is... yes, if you've seen the tags, everything... more>> is already explained. he thinks r*pe as a casual thing and seemed to not regret doing it to MC at all. he is the typical danmei ML, cold and yandere, extremely obsessed with the MC. he forces MC to do things, like forcing to live MC to live together with him and doing things without any consent. he is full of red flags, the only thing I liked was him taking care of the children MC leaves when he dies. other than that, his whole character is just about MC. his head is f*cking full of s*x with MC too.

the side characters are good too, some of them. especially the children and Leo. but in the end, after MC's death in their world, they are immediately just forgotten, except Waves, bby appeared in one arc and I love that.

as for the plot... it had potential. certainly, it used to have potential... but everything was really just thrown away and instead, we were given an unnecessary amount of papapa moments between the horn dog and MC instead of a plot explanation. I believe that I have good reading comprehension. but I really couldn't understand the thing about the reincarnation lamp. so it's either the translation I've read or the author themselves.

if it explained or even retold the story of their first-ever life, the one where wu du used the reincarnation lamp first, then I probably would've considered giving a 3 or 4 star at least. honestly, I feel like I wasted my time reading this to the last chapter.

ML is a s*x fiend istg <<less

Although the last update doesn't show it, this novel is fully translated and available on Snowy Codex.

If you will like this novel most likely depends on your own tolerance to r*pe and disrespectful behavior. I have to admit, the writer did a superior job in depicting MCs heroic death moments. They made me cry without fail but in the long run it could not counter MLs forced behavior.

Let's start with the world... one popular review compared this novel to QWFD (Quickly Wear The Face Of The Devil)... if you... more>> really HAVE to compare them, then this would be the low budget p*rn version. Also, MC and ML are in this cycle of rebirth cause of a previous life you will never really know about. There are so many holes and dangling strings.

This novel is made up of 16 Arcs and 10 "revisiting " arcs. Every arc is around 10 chapters, the longest one 20 chapters. The revisiting arcs are about 5 chapters each.

MC has the systems task "die heroically" while completing up to 3 missions in a world. This was still somewhat fun during the first one or two worlds but all got really strange. The system is not reliable and the explanation for it somewhat sucks.

ML was rather likable in world one but from there on it went down hill. Yes you can argue that ML went overboard because of a soul trauma for allways losing his beloved tragically but in my opinion this is wrong. There were worlds where MC survived his 3 Missions, so the soul should be soothed, also there were "revisiting " arcs in between where they also lived out their live. So, ML being an abusive rapist without any care for MLs opinions seems to be a kink of the writer.

There were really no meaningful interactions or communication and basically MC falls in love (and heat) at first sight. When ever this happens he forces MC into s*x (without any foreplay) for hours and hours... bla bla bla. There were zero Charakter growth or even changes from world to world. It felt like copy/ paste with a bit of addon.

Each story had potential but the writer used up the screen time for s*x instead of story and that became so boring and annoying. You would think that at least the "endgame" would be a great show.... but no, the ending was a great disappointment and rather abrupt.

I feel like I need to explain another thing,... even in the worlds and revisiting when they were together for a long time, you will not read about the cute stuff since it basically is a " and they lived until the end" sentence that conveys the meaning. While I told you about the revisiting arcs, don't get too excited, it takes 9 arcs of dying until you reach the first one. The pacing of this sucks greatly since at a later part, the writer packed them back to back. Should have mixed it up better.

So.... would I recommend this novel? Well, the translation is really good and if you want to have a good cry, you can read one or two arcs. If you look for a story with deep love, communication and equal partners, this won't do.

The main theme of this novel is: Hurting your partner by dying heroically and raping your partner to keep him close.

So, no...i would not exactly recommend this novel but as I said, it depends on your own bottom line and expectations. <<less

Some of the arcs were really good and creative, some were really meh and boring. The later revisited arc chapters were lacking and the author forgot some of their own info.

The MC was good, I liked him. He doesn't exactly start out OP, but he gets to pick skills when he successfully completes a world, so he ends up OP. His comedy bits with the system were amusing.

The ML bugged me through most of the novel, he was only likeable in 1 or 2 arcs. The last arc made me... more>> hate him completely. He is the definition of scum. Not sure why the author made such an unlikable ML.

The author doesn't really go into their original life much, which made the story lack. Honestly, it seemed like the author kind of gave up on any quality towards the end.

All in all mediocre read with a gross ML, will not read again and not sure why I even finished it.

Translation was good. Not sure why some of the later chapters have the original Chinese paragraph and then the translation under it. I thought it would annoy me a lot, but it surprisingly didn't bother me. <<less

It's been a while since I read the entire thing but I recently reread some arcs so I think my review should be accurate enough.

This novel was the first World Hopping Novel I ever read and it remained special even as I read more novels of the same genre.

The reasons for that are, firstly that the Worlds the MC visits are different from normal World Hopping Novels. They either have a completely different setting compared to usual (example: arc 7, 8, 10,..)

Spoiler

arc 7: MC being one of the last Dolphins in a futuristic world and becoming research material

arc 8: MC becoming emotionless 'Convernantor' who is expected to follow orders and contracts unconditionally

arc 10: Seninel & Guide (don't know how to explain this in short, you'll know if read it ;)

[collapse]

or a more common setting has been adjusted to become unique (example: arc 1, 5, 6,...).

Spoiler

arc 1: interstellar - MC being tortured and in captivity the entire time

arc 5: xianxia - MC becoming a mushroom that has to cultivate into human form

arc 6: omega verse - MC and ML both being Alphas

[collapse]

Secondly, the plot is uncommonly suspenseful. This is because the MC rarely relies on MLs OP influence to finish his missions and solves them independently. But also because the lack of any plot armor as the MC in this novel frequently dies because of his missions.

Spoiler

Though he can return to the worlds to have a HE with ML after he has finished enough missions successfully... So it's not entirely a tragedy.

[collapse]

However this novel isn't perfect due to one major bad point: the romance between MC and ML. In my opinion the MCs and MLs characters don't fit well as a couple. As mentioned before the MC is rather independent and strong while doing his task mission, however in his normal day to day life he is more easy going and gentle. On the other hand the ML brings the character setting of the domineering yandere to such extremes, he appears to be utterly tyrannical and uncaring for anyones opinions or feeling (unfortunately including MC). As such we never read about them having a more in-depth conversation or discovering more about the other than just their superficial character setting.

Spoiler

Apparently all the romantic stuff happened offscreen in their previous life.

[collapse]

On the contrary, their relationship seems to consist of the ML basically sexually assaulting the MC and the MC somehow putting up with him.

Spoiler

Especially their s*x scenes make me really uncomfortable. There is never any foreplay or preparation. The ML always charges straight at MC and MC seems to endure it more than enjoy it. We also never see them cuddling or simply finding closure in the others presence. It's always straight to s*x. Not a big fan...

[collapse]

To sum it up, I absolutely like the plot and world building of this novel, with just that it would definitely be worth 5 stars. However the relationship of MC and ML is so badly written that I have to deduct at least 1 star. <<less

Honest rating: 3.2 or 3.3/5

huge disclaimer: ML in the last arc is scummy as hell. Highly recommend to skip it. Here's a short summary of the important stuff that happens:

Spoiler

MC returns to their original world and Wei Xun is the ML. Qi Cheng, MC's friend, has the memories of Wu Du (junior brother of MC). MC figures out that he has to do another heroic death so that they can live a life without Wu Du interfering. He does that by dying in an avalanche while protecting the ML.

[collapse]

Character ratings:

Spoiler

MC: 4/5. I'd almost call him a white lotus with how much he forgives the ML and his scummy habits. He's very good with kids and is incredibly charming in every life.

ML: 3/5 but the last arc wants me to put him at a 1/5. Scummy as hell. Sometimes he makes moves with the MC's consent, sometimes not. Depends on the world. I understand his s*um personality but it continues to leave a bitter taste in my mouth. There were a few incarnations when I liked him. Just, not the last one.

System: 4.5/5. I'm talking about the system made of ML's soul. I wanted to pray that he was the real ML but no. He's cute and deserves love.

[collapse]

Plot:

Spoiler

I loved majority of the worlds. The only ones I didn't like are the 12th, 16th, and part of the 15th arc. They weren't my flavor. I especially like the Return arcs. They were incredibly sweet, especially with the sentinel and guide return arc. I like how the PoV is their child. For the most part the couple is sweet.

I think that the last chapter kind of salvaged whatever was good about the story for me.

[collapse]

The novel started strong but died at the very last arc. I love this story, but the ML is testing my bottom line far too much. <<less

I started losing a lot of interest around chapter 220, because the ML's hatred and annoyance towards anything that is not his beloved MC were really ticking me off. Like I would totally believe it if there was a world where the ML had a husband, children, and friends, and the ML would just throw all that out the window the second he caught a glimpse of the MC. I'm starting to hate the cliche ML-who-follows-the-MC-to-different-worlds-but-somehow-retains-feelings-for-MC-despite-"losing"-his-memories.

The villains were all definitely 1-D and always only hated either the MC or ML... more>> and wanted to kill one of them or break them apart.

The only thing saving this from a 1-star rating from me is that I initially had a good impression of this novel. <<less

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:

this novel itself was a really good read, it took a common trope and changed it enough to make it interesting. That said, the last arc was absolutely horrendous. Just read until the last RE chapter and then be done with it. The ML completely breaks any character development he had previously followed: he literally r*pes the MC, doesn’t care, tells the MC he won’t stop, and still acts like the high and mighty president. Even if other arcs had some pretty major dubcon none of them had... more>> an unapologetic b*stard who didn’t care about anything except forcing the MC to do what he wants. I F*CKING HATE THE LAST ARC SO MUCH IT MADE ME REGRET READING THIS NOVEL. IT BROKE THE ML’S CHARACTER AND MADE THE MC SEEM LIKE A WEAK AND POWERLESS BUM WHO DOESNT CARE THAT THE ML IS A HORRIBLE HUMAN BEING. <<less

This is one of my favourite BL novels! Totally recommend it!

It has everything you want: fluff, angst, heartwarming, heartbreaking, etc.

The worlds where the MC transmigrates to are very original in comparison to other QT novels (shoujo included) and the system is literally a system. It's an AI and he does not show any feelings and only follows the "rules" so it may seem a bit cruel in comparison to other systems.

The way our MC transmigrates has rules he needs to follow so it's not like "oh, just counterattack the male/... more>> female protagonist or get revenge for the body you transmigrated in". That's what I like about it, it's different to other novels. Our MC doesn't only have to complete the missions while trying to stay alive but if he dies he needs to die "heroically".

The arc of Faith made my heart bled!!!! I hate those f*cking haters for bullying him!! But my favorite arc was when he was supposedly inlove with the younger sister of his lover. It was a bittersweet love story but in the end he died because of that f*cking little sister and that s*upid Older brother of his! The line of the ML was really heartwrenching!

He said to his younger sister was like this:" You are my sister, I cannot hate you but I will never forgive you."

He (ML) also hate his lover's brother because he thought that her sister and his lover is the ones who killed him (MC), indirectly and he hated his sister for having the MC's undying love even sacrificing his little life.

I really hate the sister cuz she thinks that the MC's world revolves around her.

I love this novel! It is super fun to read and it is not as sad as you would expect from a main character who dies all the time in several different tragic ways (: in fact almost all of the novels being translated at SnowyCodex. The premise of this novel is a unique twist on systems and (quick) transmigration, in that the MC is supposed to die as dramatically as possible in the most appropriately "heroic" manner for each story. The author definitely had fun with some of the arcs (a world of magical pen demons, anyone?), but at the same time about 98+% of the novel is filled with blazing red flags and morally questionable-to-straight criminal behavior, which you can get the idea of by reading just about any other review here.

The ML is... more>> the typical possessive, violent, yandere top of most BLs, and the MC is of the typical gentle, kind, white lotus shou variety. I'm not a huge fan of the ML myself, but I don't understand why more readers aren't pointing out that the MC practically encourages the ML to r*pe and pillage and plunder? MC is fully capable of defending himself or at least saying NO and physically removing himself from most situations, yet HE. NEVER. DOES. Or at the most, he'll scold him with something as effective as an adult shaking their head at a kid.

My primary issue, and the reason I stopped at 255, is because

Spoiler

of the mole. Yes, seriously. I can't stand it's actions and ridiculous toxicity!

In the second chance/redo arcs, the mole has become a separate entity (is part of the original ML's soul, but due to whatever reason has created its own "identity"). The mole is petty, b*tchy, and digs so many unnecessary pits for the ML that even the MC with his minor amnesia between worlds at this point can tell something is wrong. But does the MC actually do anything like scold the mole, other than being speechless? No, of course he doesn't. He won't even tell the ML to quit being a rapist. ≪

[collapse]

I don't know if I'd recommend the book, but it's here if someone is interested. Cheers! <<less

don't judge a novel by the reviews.

please give it a try. Complete story on wattapad. I read from there.

This novel kept me hooked for a long time and last night this romance ended when I finished reading it 4 in the morning. Nothing is perfect, ML may seems a s*um but he is helpless because he has no memories of the MC in every arc. The arcs are blended properly with return cards integration for mending each end.

This novel is adventures, romantic, fluff, tragic (but happy ending). Do give it... more>> a try ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐ <<less

However I didn't like, as stated by another reviewer, the r*pey ML and his relationship with the MC.

But overall I liked the story and it is one that I like to re-read so it's a 4 star. Also Snowy-sama is an amazing translator! I feel the segment below of MC's inner rant sums up the ML perfectly, which kinda made it funny because the MC is super aware of the ML's high s*um value.

ps. Like most QT MLs there's a way for the MC to find their lost MLs. Which I've blocked out in the segment because it's too much of a spoiler.

3.5* not a huge fan of the relationship dynamic, a little too r*pe-y with an unhealthy representation of "no means yes" but other than that it's well written with some pretty creative and fun transmigration identities,

the arcs are on the shorter side but for the most part they are still well fleshed out, later on it becomes less about the world and more about them doing it which gets boring (at least for me since I'm not a fan of the ml)

I wanted to like this one because I liked the concept so I ignored the reviews and pushed through. I liked what I got at first for the most part. I was able to ignore the awful ML. The MC gave me a few chuckles and the angst was just carefree enough for me to sit back, turn my brain off, and enjoy. This obviously did not last long. The reviews do not exaggerate. The ML is intolerable, he’s like a dog in heat and the s*x scenes aren’t even... more>> enjoyable because the majority is r*pe and even in the few instances it was consensual the ML is cringy as hell. I thought there were a few good plots, and I really did like the MC but the good nowhere near redeems the bad. Also don’t make the mistake (like me lol) of pushing through the novel to see how it ends and wtf is going on with all of this. It’s totally not worth it, barely explains anything, and is ultimately unsatisfying. <<less

This webnovel had some bad and good arcs making it a 4/5 overall. Moreover, this is my personal opinion on each arc based on how much I enjoyed reading it:

Arc One (2x) : 5/5

Arc Two (2x) : 5/5

... more>> Arc Three (2x) : 4/5

Arc Four: 5/5

Arc Five (2x) : 1/5 (Dropped)

Arc Six (2x) : 4/5

Arc Seven (2x) : 2/5 (Dropped)

Arc Eight (x2) : 4/5

Arc Nine: 5/5

Arc Ten (2x) : 3/5

Arc Eleven (2x) : 4/5

Arc Twelve (2x) : 1/5 (Dropped)

Arc Thirteen: 4/5

Arc Fourteen: 4/5

Arc Fifteen: 2/5 (Dropped)

Arc Sixteen: 3/5

I recommended reading this but remember that you can skip an arc if it’s not your cup of tea. However, it must be noted with the ones I added ‘2x’ for they do follow up those arcs again later in the story. <<less

I rated 5/5, just because of the Moral Brigade's downrating.

I mean, MC suffers unspeakable tortures along the story, died in horrible ways, he's literally shattered to pieces while still conscious, but what triggers some people to downrate the novel is the r*pe thing? Really? And also, r*pe happens when one party is unwilling! In almost every arc, MC teases ML just to see how long can he (ML) restrains himself, while being full aware how addept of rough s*x ML is. Besides that, the way they copulate in the beastmen... more>> arc, well, it's the way lions do it in the wild. Let's block felines!

(Don't use a novel as a moral guide, like the blockheads downrating any BL novel because of their moral compasses, while giving their thumbs up to hundreds being beheaded in shonen novels.)

Anyway,

my thoughts about the novel.

I actually expected more, much more. I thought the novel would be some "quickly wear the face of the devil" prequel, before Zhou Yun Sheng hacked the system. The first arc is brutal, deceiving me to believe that's what I was going to get. But it's not.

Very soon the author chooses to give us mounds of dog food, instead fulltime despair. It's ok. I respect the author decision, it's his story anyway, albeit I had to spend dozens of insulin frasks while reading the Re: arcs. (To be honest, I had to skip some of them.)

At least, despite using some common routes, the author is daring to make MC to have some unusual experiences. Such as being a mushroom, an evil ghost, an evil god, a shapeshifter dolphin, a pen!

About MC, because of the Matrix way to upgrade between the arcs, ends up being extra OP. He's not constrained to the previous body owner's personality, so it's ok to be OOC, allthough sometimes the Holy Mother vibe is too much. He's also very indulgent with the 'always in heat' ML.

While out of fiction, a yandere partner is a big NO-NO for me, in the novel, the ML's obsession, possessiveness and 'love at first sight' syndrome is consistent with the protagonists' origin. This is also one of the reasons why I became frustrated, because of the supposed novel's premise that I believe it would be (blood and tears). Sometimes he becames so obsessive, jealous or manipulative, to the point of being dumb, bringing some comedy tone, breaking the expected angst.

This novel is not a masterpiece, but is above average. Unless, like me, at first you expected something else, in line with the brutality of 'a hundred ways to kill a heartthrob'. <<less

Arghhhh! Although I don't expect so much from this novel after I have already read other readers' reviews about ML r*pes to MC, still I feel so disgusting after I finished this novel.

This is like the worst novel without a good plot, character development and so many flaws...... This novel only emphasizes about s*x (to say the truth: r*pe) and the toxic like relationships.......

I can't get why many people are into this type of novel but for me this kind of one is really disappointing. This is like encouraging rapists... more>> using the excuse of love or possessiveness. Seriously, what the f*ck is wrong with the authors and readers to enjoy and think this kind of plot as if this is a good thing.... <<less
