Romance Arc:

On the eve of entering the challenge, Wei Huan is blindsided by an arranged engagement.

His nearly bankrupt father, swayed by his stepmother’s suggestion, plans to marry him off to a disabled man.

Upon meeting, Wei Huan discovers his betrothed is none other than Mu Zhong.

Mu Zhong: the heartthrob of Challenger University, born with supernatural talent, and a prospective member of the Dragon Team’s Sixth Squad. He was set to officially join after acquiring a second extraordinary ability in the [Highway Survival Challenge] .

However, in a recent mission, Mu Zhong was unexpectedly crippled, losing even his supernatural abilities.

His final value lies in a commercial marriage alliance with the legitimate heir of a second-tier family, stripped of his inheritance rights.

The day after their wedding, Wei Huan enters the [Highway Survival Challenge] and successfully obtains a god-tier extraordinary ability.

But then…

[Ding!]

[Family member requests to join: Mu Zhong wishes to board. Do you accept?]

Content Warnings:

1. This is a main-attack story. The protagonist isn’t selfish; having returned from a shattered world, he understands the importance of mutual support, leaning slightly toward a saintly disposition.

2. The protagonist will rise to become a leader of humanity, so his major decisions may sometimes appear ruthless.

3. Those who board his vehicle, regardless of initial conflicts, will never betray him once aboard. This isn’t a flaw, so feel free to emotionally invest in every teammate.

4. Occasionally reserved, the protagonist relies on his wife as his spokesperson. He deeply loves his wife, and his wife loves him back. Their romance is smooth, focusing on an unstoppable husband-and-wife duo dominating the world together.

This is the first time I have dived into this kind of highway apocalyptic genre. And my experience with this novel is good. As I haven't finished reading it yet, I'll just give a brief insight into what I thought pros and cons of this novel.

Pros:

Spoiler

First of I liked the fact that from the very beginning with the author showed the prices that a soldier needs to pay when fighting in a war. The seme Wei Huan burns his face badly when he chooses to open a diamond chest. And Mu Zong lost both of his legs when he was in a mission. So things start with a dreary picture. And it's a hooking start.

As this is a seme pov novel, the main emphasis is seme's thoughts and experiences. That being said, I liked how pragmatic the seme is. He had his prejudices against the uke Mu Zong's family (it was understandable from the seme's side even though we as the readers will quickly catch on that lack of information and anger from the previous life have created the misunderstandings). But Wei Huan is not stubborn. When he realised that something is wrong, he corrected his decisions according to that. No extra drama.

Also Wei Huan's (seme) main mission is to make sure that in the war between two civilizations, humans came out as the winner because in his previous life human lost the war. Hence expect the novel to be centered around war and fighting more than romance and other things.

As for the uke Mu Zong, he is like a tragic hero. He was powerful and glorious but had to lose his legs in a mission and had to be married to a complete stranger (the seme) and place his life in this stranger's hand because of a proficiency and necessity. However, despite the disability, he is still powerful and refuses to be a burden to his husband. He feels inferior because of his injuries but still retains the pride and dignity of a soldier. (He heals his legs and Wei Huan will also heal his face, but it'll take a long time. Around 300th chapters I think)

The way both of them handled the whole situation and their marriage despite being complete strangers is quite good. There's no extra drama. After all when the destiny of whole humanity lies on one's shoulders, when war and death is just a everyday occurrence, being clear headed is expected. But within this dire situation and logics, they gave each other the trust and respect they deserved as a spouse and really fell in love with each other. Nothing overly dramatic. Everything proceeded as it should be.

Also I liked how Wei Huan is not a lone wolf here. He is a commander with team members and family and the country. Most of the time, in apocalyptic world protagonists are showcased as lone wolves or as someone who hides their power and only reveals them to slap faces. But Wei Huan is strong and straightforward. He doesn't hide. And I liked this change.

The world building is good. Every new world has it's own characteristics. So there's a freshness in this aspect. The enemies are unique and matches the characteristics of the world it belongs to. Wei Huan doesn't fight along. He needs the help of his team members and spouse. So the enemies feel strong.

Now the cons:

Spoiler

Now as I said before, the main emphasis is on Wei Huan's journey after his rebirth. So while Mu Zong gets screen time as his partner, other supporting characters don't get that much screen time. To be honest there are some exceptions with some major supporting characters. But other normal supporting characters are mentioned less. So there's a lacking of that.

And the major con for this novel is the overwhelming patriotism towards china and full blown hate towards some specific countries. All the major villains from the human side are actually from these countries that china hates. So expect disgusting villains and disgusting villainous acts from characters that belongs to those countries. I won't name them as in the novel the author used pseudo names to represent these rival/villain countries. But those of us who read chinese novels can pretty much guess even vaguely who is who. So anyway, if that's something you don't like, you can be cautious entering this novel. I personally turn off real life resemblance and just treat them as fictional world and countries.

Another point, Wei Huan may look saintly but he is very ruthless when the safety of his people and humanity at large is compromised. So his actions towards these villainous countries will be ruthless.

[collapse]

Overall, this novel gave me a good entry in this highway genre. The unity shown here is really rare especially when I went to read other highway genre novels and most of them turned out to be either lone wolf like protagonist or harems. <<less
