Astelle’s long-awaited marriage life ended in a day.

It’s a sweet story, but the romantic pacing is glacially slow. I like the fMC for being strong, smart, and defending herself and how the ML learns that he can’t change the past but still tries to make it up for her even to the last chapter, but the world building and side characters aren’t really developed in my opinion. All of the obstacles that the fMC experienced were easily resolved and a tad cliche for me. The villains weren’t particularly well thought out and hadn’t made sense for... more>> motivation for opposition for me.

I enjoyed the story; it was sweet. I love Theor. And the side characters are good too. Main issue is the romance is a a sloooowwwwww burn. It’s good that the fMC makes the ML take accountability but it feels like the romance btwn the two didn’t develop until he saw her and there was no precursor that showed how he fell in love. He just took her for granted until she was gone and he wouldn’t have noticed if he never saw her. He even said that.

In all though, an enjoyable read. <<less

boring. The premise had potential but the writing just was not done skillfully.

the romance felt lackluster and the kid's cuteness was not enough to make me like the novel. The schemes are uncreative while the ml's groveling just was him apologizing and giving jewelry. The jewelry would have been impressive if it wasn't from pockets of the tax payers.

like, authors really love to make their royal characters flaunt their riches as if they earned that.

and don't get me started on the ml's reason why he divorced the fl. What a... more>> self-centered prick. It's as if he thinks he's the only one I the world who suffered. As if he doesn't benefit the most out of all the one in nobility. Get over yourself ml.

all in all, this was disappointing to read. <<less

This is a common trope novel that I feel most of you might have come across already. I love a good second chance especially those that promise a groveling ML but a lot of these either just make the second chance unjustifiable or the ML not apologetic enough. The pluses for this one is I can see why both acted the way they did and it is nice to see a ML who really ditched the FL without any underlying misunderstanding but given his situation and the person he was... more>> it wasn't exactly unreasonable for him to do so but does leave the FL understandably hurt.

But then comes my gripe, is that I felt the ML fell or the FL for no reason this time around like I wish we delved more into his psyche and understood why he came to love her now that he met her again. I liked how the FL actually maintained her stance and didn't crumble the very second he showed remorse but I feel like the novel didn't take advantage of the complexity of the feelings of its leads.

It is still much better than like most of the knovels of this trope. <<less

I give this novel a 3, I decided to drop it after reading as much as I could but it is a bit unbearable. The ML is unlikable and I hate when the good guys keep giving chanes to the villains to do whatever they want.

Withe the duke after so many assacination attempts and other problems that duke should have been poisoned or quietly killed long ago

The translation is good, the kid is adorable but I feel like the story is longer than it should be.

I love the story. Its different then usual. Yes, there may be some romance in it if you squint long enough, it is a lengthy "slow burn" after all... I do dislike the ML emperor masn child... hopefully he suffer all throughout the story (& grows a spine/character/be a good man) before he is "actually" accepted by our fav. FL Astelle. As for our dear Astelle... YOU GO QUEEN!!!

Love the comments by the way! Everyones opinion good or bad this is true fanbase...!

I don't usually enjoy reading the 'male lead is tr*sh but will be redeemed' kind of story but I got curious about this one so I gave it a read and somehow got hooked just because I love the suspense of waiting to find out when ML will finally know the truth about his son. I also love how level-headed and dignified and capable the female lead is. As to the ml, he's certainly not the worst, he just didn't care about the FL and didn't think of her as... more>> anything but a shackle to him prior to their divorce which is fair enough as his only focus is to solidify the authority of the emperor and nothing else. There are some parts that are meh for me but so far I'm still enjoying this one so will give it a 4⭐. <<less

FL: 11/10 strong, independent, quick witted, thoughtful, dignified, and a true mother bear to her son. I have no complaints about the female lead, I really think that her personality makes a lot of sense and seems grounded in reality. I am reading this story mainly because I just like her so much.

ML: 3/10 at most I can say he's not intentionally abusive or anything, but he's selfish, immature, heartless, cruel, kinda emotionally dumb as hell? And just selfish selfish selfish. He has character development but as of this point... more>> I still don't like him nor do I think he deserves forgiveness.

The son is cute but to be honest children aren't really my thing so I won't rate him lol

All in all, a wonderful female protagonist who is too good for the male lead and I want her to live happily ever after with her son without the male lead

Honestly, I'm not sure if I want to keep going with this one. It was okay at first, but by chapter 25 or so, I kind of got tired reading this novel.

For starters, I don't like the male lead. Don't get me wrong, I like novels like this one where the male lead regrets leaving or breaking up with the female lead and then does all kinds of things to get her back. I just don't like how the ML made the FL stay where she was when she asked to go back to her grandparent's house. ML does have reasons for not liking the FL back when they were married, but he's still a douchebag for me (especially since I read a spoiler that he puts FL in house arrest just to stop her from running away which made me dislike him further).

After that little rant, I think this one is a decent book to read if you like novels with a similar plot like this one. <<less

Love how our FL doesn’t fall into love back with the ML. It’s just him chasing her (though he’s not even knowing why his eyes follow her back figure.

Characters are fleshed out and I love the translation!!

So far I really like this novel. Some aspects of the plot may seem generic but the twists are really uncommon and different from the rising trends nowadays. I must say, her move on making her child be her dead brother's son instead of her own was a wise move. MC is really smart and although ML was def a douche back when they were young, we could really see some-although slow, but progressive character development on his part.

The MVP for this novel would def be the grandpa. I'm not... more>> sure yet as to what's to come since there are not that much chapters yet and I'm not willing to lose brain cells reading MTL since I already lost some, but I'll be back and update my review later when more chapters are in. <<less

I’m excited to see where this goes! I wasn’t expecting it to be that good because some of the reviews made it out to be horrible. I could see where their problems were but it’s translated very well and I enjoy the story. :) Not for everyone but I like it.

More of a 3.5 but I rounded up. Other ppl have written everything I want to say about this story but I co-sign that the ML is one of the more realistic & actually human ML's I've come across. That's nice. And thank you Jesus the son isn't written to be some weirdo genius tiny yandere a$$ baby ML who fights his dad over his mom. He's a sweet little boy who loves animals & learns to love his dad. The ML adores his son and it's just so normal... more>> and wholesome. <<less

It's all over a cute story.

But I will be lying if I said I am totally okay with the ending.......I really hate the fact that she fell in love with the emperor........ like I feel bad for Sibel (the 2nd male lead if I am not wrong about his spelling).

I would say all was expected except for Duke of Reston (Astelle's brother) and that herbal lady (Astelle's friend who helped in changing Theor's eye colour) relationship.

Started off roughly but the character development was 10/10.

The storyline makes sense if you consider the era and in as much as the Emperor’s actions were distasteful at the beginning, as you read through you understand why. Also, politics usually trump over feelings in this kind of context but I’m glad they had a happy ending.

The pace is steady and it has angst, comedy, frustrations, tear jerking moments and more but was totally worth the read.

I love the FL at first when she was cold towards the ML then got disappointed when she stared to forgive him. I felt like their relationship was forced by the author. The FL was kinda cool since she was pretty cunning and smart (she outsmarted her dad) but I just didn't get how she suddenly forgave the ml.

The bane of all k-novel's existence: repetitiveness and too much inner monologues. Translation is a 4.0 stars but the novel itself is <3.0. I really dont know what else to say - lots of useless fillers, most chapters are skippable and characters are bland.

When people who grow up having no agency and no emotional anchorage are suddenly granted far too much power, most inevitably become not just a bit of a shit, no matter how good the base material is. ML is realistically horrible as a result -- not completely devoid of good intentions, but still stuck-up and utterly self-centred, a real swine. Even if he is just a slimy, unbaked cinnamon roll on the inside, his favourite form of communication is unlawful confinement, and he doesn't care about metaphorically dropping his loved... more>> ones into pits of snakes and scorpions, and for these alone, he is worth no one's tears.

However, he's not sociopathic. You may want to punch his prick face until his daddy wouldn't recognise him, but that's about it -- nothing like wanting to watch him die eaten by piranhas, like that Soveish*t from Remarried Empress. MC is just a lovely normie: a steadfast and capable mom with an administrative mind, but also someone who kind of sucks at big picture contingencies and lacks the resolve to put threats in the grave. Neither MC nor ML are particularly good for each other. Yet what are such stories for but to give unworthy men hope in the path of deprioritising their egos, and to give unlucky women hope that unworthy men can at least be emotionally whipped into feeling and behaving like human beings? When there's already a kid, Korean values dictate that the parents are tied together through the kid forever, unless the kid dies. You can't read stories like these from a culture like that while seriously expecting a different sort of ending.

Beyond that, the plots, narrative style, and characterisation are flimsy because this novel was not written for a mature audience, and these expectations have been taken to account in the rating I decided on in the end. There is a place for vaudeville in literature, and has always been. For those who want to read about an unusual young emperor who grows up without agency or emotional anchor, but who still watches himself hard to make sure that he is NOT a shit, I recommend The Goblin Emperor by Sarah Monette. (Not on Novelupdates, it's a properly published book.) That, there, is a solid ten stars out of Novelupdate's limit of five. This one is 4 stars at best. <<less

The writing is flawless! I adore the narrative of the author. But the plot is SO BAD, the ML is straight on gaslighting the girl and she is also constantly just blank. I wish she would just tell him to f0ck off and go away, sadly this won't happen

I like the story but dont like the ML. I dont understand why after forcing and abusing their power the " ML' s" act like they are very understanding (* you can leave whenever you want I won't force you, i'll give you everything) like sh*t man why did you even force the FL to do things she doesn't want to.. this kaizer or whatever acted same, after forcing and confining the FL in the palace he made her agree to marry him (bcz this dirt bag is some GOD... more>> send angel so he has a responsibility to correct everyone's misunderstanding about the FL, and her reputation is tarnished so he HAS to improve it) like maaaan why did u even propose to her in the hall full of shitty nobles... hate this and this ML may he never rest in peace.

But it doesn't mean that the story is bad.... its good worthy of the read👍👍 <<less
