Border line disgusting with way to unnecessary s*xual violence.

I am strongly against this book with r*pe on numerous occasions, sadistic and arrogant ML and way to forgiving with no self respect MC.

I have to say that I absolutely hated this novel. I couldn't stand the fact that Lu Cang stayed with Jing, and to be honest Jing's actions made up 99% of why I hated this novel. Personally, I prefer more dark stories but this was just one that I couldn't carry on reading.

Jing got Lu Cang's sister pregnant and yet he still stayed with him? The way Jing treated Lu Cang was a huge no no for me and I hated how Lu Cang just forgot about everything Jing did in the end

[collapse]

Lu Cang turned into such a fragile white lotus and I did not stay for it. <<less

To be honest, the only reason I read this was because I ran out of Japanese light novels to read back then and this was one of the few Chinese translated M/M novels available. Also, the premise is actually interesting. After a few chapters, I hate the ML. He is manipulative, abusive, sadistic, etc. I don't like the way he treats the MC. He gets easily jealous when MC interacts with another human being but he has children with other women, the nerve. I don't understand why the MC stays... more>> with the ML. Probably fear? The beginning was funny, interesting and original. The premise of a good romp between a strong bandit chief and a beautiful emperor mistaken for a woman is unique enough to pique my interest but the story quickly devolved into an or*y of bloody sadism and continuous cruelty lol...

Definitely this is a one-of-a-kind novel that is as hardcore and extreme as one can expect when one of the MC is a complete psychopath. Yes, Jing is the very definition of a psychopath by textbook standards.

I don't think "stockholm syndrome" and "unhealthy... more>> relationship" applies to this story lol... and Jing is way worse than just a "sad*st emperor". He is an unrepentant psycho who clearly knows, accepts and embrace his psychopathy and moreover, lives in a world that allows his psychopathy to run unrestrained and unlimited. Jing is rather unique for an ML in the sense that there really is nothing redeeming in his character or behaviour, thus completely unlikable till the very end of the book lol

As for Cang the bandit, his fate does break my heart. Throughout Volume 1, he is under great mental torture and physical pain. His mixed feelings towards Jing was very well portrayed.

Volume 2 shows a more lovey-dovey side to the ill-fated couple and a change in Jing's heart and behaviour. While I can well suspend my disbelief and wholeheartedly accept that love can change a person (after all I am here for the romance!), there are a few incoherences in plot and behaviour that bothered me. For example, Jing is portrayed as being an all-powerful tyrant who can dispose of and kill people on a whim and has done so in the past... then why not behave the same towards Minister Zhang? Allowing a court official to humiliate Cang several times does not fit Jing's temperament... Jing being concerned and sensitive about his reputation at court also not consistent with what was said about him before... when he was crazy obsessed about his uncle, was he not concerned about his reputation then? when he had his concubines killed for a simple scratch and some other silliness, was he not concerned about his reputation then? Also, Jing's excuse for sleeping around is quite pitiful lol... hard to believe that such an OP character would think that the best way to "protect" his lover is by sleeping around... all these just seem like plot devices to create more drama... melodrama is what I hate the most in novels <<less

Well... if you don't like hardcore bl (even more on an emotional level >.> you are gonna get ab*sed <.<) run away immediately or you are gonna be marked forever!

This novel is not for the weak minded, who want fluffiness, blushing, awing, cute bl!

There's lots of angst, lots of tears to cry, and mostly lots of curses to shout at the ml!!

This is a roller coaster of emotions, if you have began you have to finish, because you can't simply suffer as a dog (oh damn poor dog...) and still... more>> not get your sweet reward at the end!

Ah but after all that suffering you reach the happy ending and fully enjoy it! (though I still would want to torture the ML more <.< it has influenced me badly...)

But lets be honest the ML was damn sick, sick, sick got to make our poor uke a statue for making him fall for him and return him back to humans standard!

Anyway it's worth reading if you don't have a frail heart ;) <<less

I personally think this is one the most sadistic novels out there, it kind of gives both the element of angst and satisfaction while reading (at least for me). Although the ending and the story's plot itself is heart-wrenching it never lost the approach from a realistic perspective and not some fairy tale's happy ending.

Reading over the chapters, I can safely say this book is just p*rn with plot. Each chapter almost always has some sort of foreplay or s*xual act, and it's always written in a way where it's mean to be appealing or hot to the audience. Therefore, the whole plot is kinda bland and is more in the background and used as a plot device for s*x than an actually entertaining storyline. The romance is terrible, it's a giant case of stockholm syndrome. But the p*rn is pretty well translated, so... more>> you might as well give it a read if you want the ML to dominate and r*pe the MC constantly. <<less

The ML spent the whole novel raping or forcing the MC, which wouldn't bother me that much if it weren't for the lack of plot. The MC fell in love with the ML at some point, not sure if we are told/shown because one moment he disliked him and the next he cannot stop thinking about him. Irrelevant or silly things happened and then we had the HEA.

This is an ok read, like one of those mangas that has nice art, so-so plot but not worth a re-reading. <<less

So, this human has been conflicted at first, whether to continue or not basing on the first chapter. I agree to the people that say ML is a b****rd or something with same meaning as that word. But I continued on reading anyway. I did not regret it. Meanwhile r*pe is indeed unforgivable or something (man, I say 'or something' a lot), that MC shouldn't have fell in love with him cause, psh, which rapist victim falls in love his/her rapist...

You can't really help it ah. This novel makes me... more>> think that anyone could have turned like ML long time ago, that there aren't just those MLs in other stories which are gentle when it comes to their MC.

This story isn't your average "Ah I'm interested with you so I have to be gentle to you the first time" story.

(I dunno how to express myself. Help. My thoughts are jumbled and incoherent.)

Ah. Anyways, just try it out yourselves. Don't let the reviews impede your desire to read. Judge it yourselves after you read all. <<less

THIS NOVEL NOT FOR THE FAINT HEART. You've been warned.

Even after all the years, it is still my favorite novel! Though I admit, at first I was traumatized by Jing at the brothel house (for those who have read it, you know which one rofl). I stopped right on the spot (my 13 y/o self can't cope with it XD).

But then after I read the manga version, I picked it up again and BAM I got hooked! I wished Xing Bao Er would released more novels like this one.... more>> (Tho secretly I want a reincarnated version of Jing and Lu Cang hint hint haha) <<less

I feel like Lu Cang liked Jin's face too much to justify forgiving Jin for everything he did, but I was impressed at the scene where Jin broke down and cried while clinging to Lu Cang. I was also surprised that Jin let Lu Cang poke his chrysanthemum in the end. It was a bit repetitive with Lu Cang leaving and Jin going to get him twice, but I guess that shows how much Jin loved Lu Cang......?

My very first bl novel by a Chinese author, so at first I found it very Sadistic. Too much blood (especially since the manga has all of those graphic r*pe pictures). But as the story process I came to fall in love with X Lu and Jing. But it was really saddening in the middle, or climax of the story. But at least they have a happy ending and I'm just happy for X Lu. And with reading the Fan fiction by Luxiufer I came to love the story and... more>> happy that this story was brought into life. So the tags do not lie. R*pe is not a one time issue in this novel. It is the relationship between the two main characters. If you like reluctance/r*pe tag to read, this will be up your alley, if not avoid. It's a bit too dark for me though. I kept waiting for the silver lining, for the relationship to improve, and in an entire volume it never did to my satisfaction. I gave it a 4 rating because it is not a bad story. It kept me engaged while... more>> reading it. But I do not want to continue reading it, and I would only recommend it to people who are interested in a dark read. <<less

I love this story! Plot, secondary characters, emotions of heroes - everything is well written.

you guys are scolding the author, even though she just wrote a bad character well (I am silent about the fact that there are books about much worse people). Those who talk about the cruelty of this book, I think, did not read the tags - everything is described there more than well and clearly. Or me, the end was really very unexpected, and I am grateful to the author for introducing me to this wonderful... more>> book. <<less

It was hard to read, heavy on the soul, it’s not my favorite but it was a nice Change at that time. Unforgettable for sure and till the end I didn’t like the emperor (sick and selfish guy, I am not even sure how to describe him) who would? It’s good for this story’s been written. It can be always worse. Reality is even more cruel and even more tragic things are happening even right now, and without this nice of an ending (if we can describe it a such).

My biggest issue with the book is that the emotions feels comically fake and abrupt. I mean with the tags on the novel, it’s pretty obvious that the novel is about a cruel disturbing painful romance, BUT it’s impossible to feel the emotions that the characters supposedly have. Even how they fall in love is a mystery to me because it’s literally just stated that they have, but there’s no hint or lead up before that.

when the MC first shows that he has some fond feelings for the ML, I was actually mystified. And it’s not because the ML behaves like a total depraved s*umbag, but because the MC’s thoughts and actions up to that point seemed to be focused on running away and hating the guy. So when he showed some reluctance to part with ML, I was like eh? When did that happen? How did that happen? Why did it happen? Like there’s no... inner monologue about how MC feels torn... no touching moment where MC is suddenly stuck with some positive emotion. No it’s literally “I hate you! I want to run away! I hate having s*x with you!” and then he suddenly has some weird reluctance to part with ML.

When ML and MC reunite after ML supposedly confessed to MC, I was again surprised because I didn’t even realize that what he said was a confession. I had to go back to read the previous chapter again and even then I couldn’t connect how what happened led to them being reunited because ML ‘explained’ (a pretty ridiculous explanation imo), MC got mad and fainted and then in the next scene they were happily reunited.

[collapse]

I think it’s pretty wasted that given how psychopathic the ML is, and how destructive his actions are, the way the MC is written completely doesn’t give off any feeling of tragedy or pain. I don’t even feel angry that ML is batsh*t crazy or that MC is such a door mat, I just thought it was pretty comical. If anything, the random side character, the uncle seemed to be more of a tragic character than the MC but the treatment the MC receives from the ML is so much worse.

so I think generally the story does deserve low reviews. Even for readers who like tragedies or cruel heart breaking romances, there are other books that do it so much better. <<less

If you like really tropey early 2000s BL like Viewfinder you’ll probably enjoy this. I personally don’t have anything against it so I read it out of boredom and it was fine.

If you didn’t get it from the Viewfinder comparison this novel has a TON of noncon within the main cp, some of it is actually pretty graphic too so if that makes you at all uncomfortable this is not for you. Please love yourself and don’t try to read this. I knew what I was getting into so for... more>> me it was pretty tame and if you have read stories like it’s it’s pretty par for the course. You have the cold domineering ML who’s extremely abusive towards the MC and essentially puts him through hell. I was actually surprised by the MC, he stands his ground and actively fights back which is rare for this kind of novel. He actually leaves and makes the ML come to grovel for him to come back. And of course the MC falls in love with the ML for... some reason and they actually end up living happily ever after.

All in all my thoughts can be summed up as, it was ok. If you like this kind of set up it can be entertaining enough to take up a couple days but if not then steer clear. And to those complaining that it’s unrealistic, no sh*t it’s a BL from the early 2000s I think the last thing the author intended it to be was realistic. <<less

I reread this book again after 2 years and still not liking this book that much.

I think that the story is a little bit messy, but the writing is top tier,

I liked dark story but I think this is not a cup of tea for me, still enjoyable though.
