A meteor shower brought a large number of radioactive meteorites, causing the abrupt evolution of a hundred thousand people all over the world. As a result, supernatural abilities manifested, and turmoil and panic followed closely behind.

In order to stabilize the social structure, supervisory departments have been established all over the world, aiming to use all their strength to solve supernatural crimes and ensure public order.

Shenhai City’s great supervisor, Shen Zhuo, is famous for his cold, tough, iron-fisted, and efficient way of doing things. The evolutionists fear him, hate him, and have no choice but to obey him.

Lazy writing, is the kindest way to describe this novel.

Despite being an anthropocentric story featuring our world's geopolitical and social issues, the author does not actually have a basic understanding of the world around them.

Huitian's setting isn't limited to China, but features different countries and an ethnically diverse cast. Yet, the author's "knowledge" of the world seems to be strictly limited to information you can gather from a three-minute mainstream news segment. Rather than actually support Huitian's global perspective with any commentary or insight about global events, the author instead... more>> emphasizes the novel's setting with offhanded remarks and jokes about these real-world issues that inevitably fall flat because there's no real substance behind them.

The author also seems open to calling an ethnic cleansing of an alien race a genocide, but refers to a very real, ongoing genocide as a "conflict." And this "conflict" is only mentioned in passing during a humorous situation. Even the invasion of Afghanistan is reduced to a joke.

If you want to consider its ethnically diverse cast a plus, the stereotypes and lack of cultural construction of these characters make it impossible. They are virtually without cultural background aside from their names, while most of the characters who are from countries stereotyped to have darker skin tones are stereotypes and depicted as immoral. The nameless characters from Myanmar are described as criminals or willing to engage in criminal activity. The supporting character, Antonio, is described to be a "South-American" arms dealer (?) from a "mob" family, while the explicitly-labeled-Mexican character (also nameless) is a criminal (cannibal).

As for the supporting character, Amatullah, who is an Egyptian woman, her cultural background is only ever referenced when she offers

And despite being so "diverse" with white characters from European countries, the only black characters in Huitian who are explicitly referred to as black are

nameless thieves (described as "thugs") in the last extra of the novel who threaten the ML with weapons, including a homemade gun, in New York.

Aside from all these points, what the novel fails to do, even by the end of the story, is support its main argument. As it turns out, the moral of the story, its overall message, the point the author is trying to make through an anthropocentric narrative is that humans will always fight against subjugation. Yet this message is conveyed through the main character, who is unapologetically a fascist.

The author doesn't understand their own moral of the story when they can't even grasp the intent behind mass protests in cities (people rallying against the state to fight oppression of some kind) and the very human devotion to protecting their communities. This is clear to see when the main character casually suggests tear-gassing protestors, initiating military takeovers, and inflicting corporal punishment. Rather than emphasizing community care and featuring civilians who take care of civilians, the author only glorifies a state-sanctioned authoritative force (led by the main character) that jumps at the chance to carry out excessive force, torture, and inhumane punishment. Thus, Huitian argues that it is not actually civilians who fight against subjugation, but the very state that inflicts it.

Huitian, basically: "I can excuse oppressive governments and systems of policing subjugating humans, but I draw the line at aliens doing it too."

Sure, I have read and enjoyed my fair share of copaganda novels. However, there's one key aspect that determines whether readers can sit back and ignore a propagandist narrative, and that is the novel's allowance for readers to suspend their disbelief by reinforcing its fictional perspective. Huitian fails in this aspect entirely because it is set on calling you back to the real world. It constantly and meaninglessly references global issues, explicitly or implicitly, placing you in a parallel world where ability users exist, but the genocide, the same government overreach, the same sociopolitical issues of this world also exist.

It is the author's insistence on referencing the real world, despite how dismissive they are towards geopolitical issues and state oppression, that backfires on them. You cannot argue against subjugation while in favor of the state.

Had the author actually done any research—or had the author chosen to make up cultures, countries, global affairs, and governments—and had the author excluded the colorism, racism, and stereotypes, the hypocrisy of Huitian's main message would have been a bit more easier to ignore. There wouldn't have been as many jokes in the story, but that would have been an even better outcome anyway. <<less

Hmmm... Huai Shang's new novel?! Say no more, I am in~

Apparently, I have a thing for 美强惨 shous so this novel is definitely my cup of tea hehehe =u=

I wrote this review on a whim during 2am at night after catching up to the latest raw updates, so my thoughts are kinda jumbled and all over the place... Given that the novel is still ongoing at the time that this review was posted, I'll come back to edit it once in a while.

Now, let's briefly talk about world building to start things off... This novel takes on a doomsday theme as the world is on a brink of war between the commoners and the evolutionists—— As stated in the summary, a meteor shower was the cause of an abrupt evolution that bestowed supernatural powers to those who came into contact with it, and they are ranked according to the following letters: D and C are the lowest ranks, numbering in eighty thousand, developed enhanced senses and telekinetics. B rank evolutionists, numbering about twenty thousand, developed bullet resistance and elemental abilities, while A rank evolutionists, only numbering about 2, 000 worldwide, are on the top of the hierarchy (second to the S ranks of course)... And finally, there's the commoners living under the oppression of the evolutionists who have no supernatural abilities at all.

P.S. One's supernatural abilities are also developed according to one's inward desires, the commoners who were unaffected despite coming into contact with the meteorites neither have inferior genes or no inward desires in general which is highly unlikely.

There are a total of 36 supervisory departments worldwide established for the purpose of preventing conflict, and our MC Shen Zhuo, despite being a commoner himself, overlooks the city of Shenhai where the most densely populated evolutionists gather, as one of the top ten global supervisors.

Prior to becoming a supervisor though, Shen Zhuo worked as head of the HRG project at a research institution (also known as Human Genetic Regeneration Program) where he was rumored to have used evolutionists as test subjects..... This project has continued for 30 years and its former purpose was to alter human genes to extend life expectancy. However, after the occurrence of the meteor shower that posed a threat to world peace, the project changed its course under Shen Zhuo's guidance...

As Shen Zhuo personally stated later on in the novel, the HRG project's aim was to invent a syringe that bestows supernatural abilities to commoners with as few side effects as possible—— However, due to an event (a deadly explosion to be exact) that occurred during an expedition three years ago involving the death of an S rank, and the comatose of an A rank, the project was forced to come to a halt as Shen Zhuo was chased out of the institute. The culprit of this deadly explosion's identity was left unsolved and the accountability was shoved onto Shen Zhuo because he was the only one who came out unscathed despite not being an evolutionist himself.

It should be said that the death of an S rank is a big deal, and this caused a huge uprising among the evolutionists. They directed all their anger at Shen Zhuo and their anger intensified as Shen Zhuo gave the court a vague outline of the event and insisted that Fu Chen, (the S rank that died in the explosion) was the one who incited the explosion.....

However, against all the evolutionists wishes, Shen Zhuo was appointed to become one of the top ten supervisors worldwide by the International Head Supervisory Department for reasons unknown.

Now that you get a gist of what the novel is about, let's move onto the main story line——

We don't know a lot about our gong Bai Sheng's past so far except for the fact that he is a rich twenty-seven year old second generation S rank evolutionist whose parents passed away when he was at the age of eight. In addition, we also get to know that he is a boxer and a philosophy doctorate from a top academic institution abroad~

His first encounter with Shen Zhuo was during a trip back to the mainland, and all the passengers of the flight he was on happened to be held hostage by an A rank whom Shen Zhuo was trying to capture. Later on, their encounters became more frequent, and Bai Sheng will eventually get involved in Shen Zhuo's affairs as the storyline progresses.

At the moment, we still don't know what motive Bai Sheng has in approaching Shen Zhuo, but he did personally state that his only intention was to "develop a relationship outside of being friends" with Shen Zhuo when being questioned... In addition, Bai Sheng's persistence as well as how he shows up whenever his wifey is in crisis despite getting pushed away and receiving cold shoulders from him every time is truly worth admiring—— Oh and did I forgot to mention that Shen Zhuo literally have three near death encounters (excluding the ones from flashbacks) and has already been hospitalized twice near the end of the first arc =u=

—— Anyways, I gotta say that his shenanigans are top notch, I just can't get enough of him~

The first arc of the novel kinda poses as an introduction, but there are still a lotta stuff left unsolved at this point in the storyline, like the truth behind Fu Chen's death, and the origin of "Mister Rong" whom I presumed to be the final boss.

Next up, a little bit of info regarding the second arc——

Mister Rong and his underlings strike back with another plot, but this time involving a sixteen year old girl and the comatose A rank, Sue Jiqiao from the explosion three years ago.

Cases of "gnawers" started surfacing around Shenhai City, starting with a forty-something-year-old man who mysteriously went out of control and started gnawing on his own flesh in the subway station.

The sixteenth year old girl who was foreshadowed earlier made her re-appearance when the second case occurred and Shen Zhuo happens to be nearby the scene.

After our leads got some clue from investigating the homes of the "victims", they were then informed that not only had Rong Qi (Mister Rong) invaded Sue Jiqiao's hospital chamber with the aforementioned girl a few days prior but also "borrowed" his supernatural ability, Daydream.

Later on, our leads tracked down the girl and Mister Rong manipulated Daydream from afar, sending Bai Sheng into a dreamscape... (The dreamscape essentially let's its victims relive their most miserable experience, and will lead to coma if not broken in time)

After some twists & turns, Shen Zhuo acquired a way to safely break Bai Sheng free from the dreamscape by going into the dreamscape himself and taking the burden off of Bai Sheng. However, instead of being willingly sent back, Bai Sheng entered the second dreamscape with Shen Zhuo and became an invisible spectator.

Inside the second dreamscape, Shen Zhuo relived the events that led to the explosion three years prior, and Bai Sheng put an end to the dreamscape with his ultimate skill/fatal strike, the law of cause and effect.

Looking back at my paragraph of words, I lowkey feel like this is more of a summary of the novel (so far) rather than my own review & opinions lol =3=

If you are familiar with Huai Shang's writing style, you'd know that you are in for a lotta knives whenever the shou has flashbacks or dreams and this one is no exception :'D

The theme of this novel is quite refreshing in my opinion, as it not only features thrilling action-packed scenes interspersed with supernatural powers, but also touches upon topics such as the destructive nature of war and the preciousness of peace.

I couldn't really make any personal assumptions at the moment, but I do believe there's definitely more to the HRG project than what Shen Zhuo has revealed given that the words of Huai Shang's shous are known to be not trustworthy so what can I say 🥸

To sum up, I have high hopes for this novel even before its serialization and Huai Shang did not disappoint 💖 <<less

Man, who in the world is review bombing this novel? Tldr, I highly recommend this! An interesting premise, well-executed story and written by one of the most meticulous authors I've seen. MC and ML are well-developed, and have very good character progression. Side characters are also distinctive in their own ways (and the found family theme is so touching!!)

Romance is definitely one of the best selling points of this novel. The MC and ML's dynamics is literally similar to the author's other novel BTTC. I absolutely adore the duo... more>> here, and their back and forth quips always never fail to make me burst out in laughter numerous times throughout the book. ML is such a drama queen (in a good way!) and it perfectly balances out the more reticent MC. Their unconditional love and trust in one another shines throughout the entire story and melts my heart like a marshmallow. They're a menace and totally suit one another

This author really has a way with words, and I absolutely adore how she magically weaves together so many impactful scenes. The part that hits home and got me hooked on this novel is the scene right after when we got to know of ML's past.:

"How strange, " he muttered, as if in a dream, "how can I cry in front of you?"

Have his tears and resentment, which have not surfaced since he was eight years old, not entirely vanished yet?

As if an indestructible shield has disintegrated, the years-old armor crumbled away with ease; this was supposed to be the person that he wanted to win over and possess the most, the person that he was supposed to display his strength to. And yet, in the moment when the other party had extended his hand, like a wild beast eager for shelter in the wind and snow, he desperately let out a cry of grievance.

As if he had already known that in front of this person, it was alright to show his weakness.

Under the gaze of these beautiful eyes, he could completely retract his claws, spread out his fur, and expose his unsightly wounds and unhealed flesh and blood.

Bai Sheng pulled Shen Zhuo into a tight embrace, using his strength to bury his face into the crook of his neck, kneeling on the ground and whispering, "are you here to bring me out?"

My personal take on the plot was that it has a rather slow buildup initially (filled with manyy manyy mysteries), but it was necessary for worldbuilding. I skimmed through the lengthier portions. But once the plot picks up, especially at the last quarter of the book, boyyyy it hits hard. Everything was so fast-paced and action packed I could barely put down the novel. The story may seem straightforward at first, but the plot twists at the end gave me an urge to reread the whole novel again just to catch the nuances I missed in the first reading.

I don't regret reading this book and definitely recommend it! <<less

Overall, it's a very entertaining and engaging novel. The plot is nicely executed, the characters are intricately fleshed out, and the small dynamics & interactions are well crafted. I just have a few issues to pick with it, that in my opinion make it fall short from being a solid 5-star read. These include:

  1. The relationship for the most part felt unequal, with the ML giving it his whole and the MC treating it like a chore. I understand this is because of the "behind the scenes" reservations that he had, that made him scared to let the ML into his life. But still it felt unfair to the ML (specifically given his past experiences), the poor guy was just looking for comfort and a sense of familial security. (Note: don't worry though, the MC does eventually reciprocates so don't let it deter you from reading it)
  2. The author really overdid themself trying to convey just how brilliant, gorgeous, attractive, ethereal, powerful, impactful, intelligent, and "special" the MC is. It was over done to a point where I wouldn't be surprised if the author were to write something like "the MC blinked, a blink so refined and sharp everybody at the scene stopped what they were doing, unable to take their eyes of the cold aura that blink exuded". It felt really ridiculous at times.
  3. Often times the supposed scientific explanations given for anything that was happening were too... nonsensical. At times the author was just throwing jargons at you, giving vague, barely-makes- sense descriptions and theories. But somehow it all worked so Hurray!
  4. Plot holes! The opportunities the villains had to kidnap the MC are too many to count on one hand for example, but for some unexplained reason they chose not to take it? I was also confused by the main villain's on again off again rebound ability? And if the HRG is what the villain wanted they didn't really have to go after the MC specifically and could have just kidnapped any of the HRG scientists directly from the lab with their spacial ability (the ability blocking instruments were deployed much much later, and even if they were deployed Bai sheng was very often not at the lab to defend it, Rong chi could have just walked in and kidnapped the scientists any time. Who could have stopped him?)
Anyhow, despite these shortcomings it was still a nice read.... more>> The kind that you fondly look back upon. <<less

THIS NOVEL IS SO GOOD, shou and gong is power couple, shou is genius and protected by many parties, gong is strong but shameless, yall will like it. The storyline is really extraordinary and there are several plot twists that will definitely surprise you, the way the author writes the fighting parts is very detailed, the only minus part is there is gore for those who don't like it.

Anw theres a gxg side couple and our couple has an adopted son and daughter who is also strong.

This is a good book but sadly I felt like reading it further is a waste of time.

But still it did not deserve a rating lower than 4. I think the reason I dnf this was not because of conflict of interest or preference, because objectively, this book had a good foundation in many areas. I am interested with the themes and genre used in this book. It's just wasn't compelling enough for me to continue reading it or spend a time on it.

It could be seen as I already... more>> drop my phone while reading this thrice. Once because I decided I needed to take a snack rather than reading this, one because for some reason I just want to open TikTok twice, and there's a fourth time, I went to the bathroom even if I my bladder did not need it yet.

With this, I realize the book was not holding its hand for me. There are several reason why.

Its plot was not that innovative or elevated to my liking. The plot resembled a popular genre where people develop abilities in a normal world and there are also those people who did not have it. Several stories came into my mind, one prominent one is Xmen series. They are inherently different but the overall world setting revolves on the same area, two forces fighting each other, the normal and the evolve ones, and ability forces fighting each other. For me, this book did not hold much plot interest than Xmen.

You have a plot, then make it interesting. The plot in this book is complicated, well crafted, was not sloppy and indeed wasn't utterly boring. It was just that the direction was not that hooking enough.

Let's compare it to Xmen. In Xmen, we have a group of characters tagging together into an organization fighting an evil force or dealing with social unrest with the power imbalance, seems familiar with this book. In Xmen they have variety of characters, all interesting, either they were the villain or the side characters. You will be interested to how they were explored and how the plot matters to them and to the world they live in.

In HT, we have a supervisor who wanted to quell unrest to the jurisdiction that he was assigned, with mediocre subordinates following him faithfully, an ML with quirky or trigger happy attitude, and a villains that was not that interesting, more so because there were so little to them at the moment.

It wasn't that bad, but I was looking for something that would tickle my reader spirit. A goal so encompassing, as a reader I also wanted to follow, a character's circumstance or growth I want to witnessed, a character's daily life experience I was fond to look at or something like a plot that grabs my interest. I did not find in this book.

They have goals but it was more political. The overall goal they realistically pursued was a stalemate situation where two forces could counter each other to a resemblance of peace. It was realistic, but not that monumental for me to spend a lot of chapters to read.

They have enemies to defeat, but I still did not see how they were detrimental to world peace. They may and they can be but even in that event, their influence was not that great to be a threat. Kill them and everything somewhat ends or cleared for the mean time. That is not something I wanted to be invested to. It did not feel gratifying.

Then I look towards the characters. F*ck plot, a character could even let may stay on a boring story as long as they are charismatic or relatively interesting to me. In no way the MC here is uninteresting. He's even enigmatic. But sadly I could not find anything inside me, even a tidbit of drive to see where his story will lead. It's mainly because his character background was unrelatable and also because his character did not leave any leeway to cheer for.

For a story where people could have abilities and not, there are two effective areas that would make the character compelling to the readers. One is weak character growing strong. A character that was once weak making people root or feel for them, wanting them to grow and be strong. Or the Strong character, that is so strong that watching them reveal their abilities and rolling around in their power would elicit excitement for the readers.

The main character is neither of the two. He was not weak, but definitely not that strong. He had ways to make himself strong but he was overly reliant to external things, making it not his own but a will of chance and conveniences.

His position made it unnecessary to root for him because in no way he was weak. The other way too is the same, he was not that OP that made me want to see what his abilities were. He was not a person that gives assurance that tagging with him will be a breeze. Most of the time he would be in a dire situation where he would spent so much from himself, sacrifice things just to solve it. He did not give the feeling of assurance.

This is not a rule though. Even this not weak but not so strong character could have machinations to them making them interesting. A lot of author explored it and made good characters from it. This one though did not accomplish it based on my personal evaluation.

So the other thing to do was focus on his inherent character and find something to relate to it or to sympatize to it, something to hold interest to the character. But I found nothing, even when his character was not typical and even well made.

He was a very famous person, he was so handsome seducing people was so easy to him, people love him and he know it and even used it in his own way. He is pragmatic, even able to sacrifice civilians for the greater good if he did not have any choice, it was commendable, worthy of being a supervisor, realistic but it was not charismatic. He was impeccable, calm, and smart person but this was just trait that any character could have. He did not elicit some real characteristic, more like humanistic characteristic. He is so rigid, cold, and elusive with his real personality. He did not have a selfish goal, or not yet, did not have cracks on his personality making him human and did not showed personal wants and likes.

He did not feel lacking, his character was well made. I don't hate it, I just don't love it or at least care for it. He is the MC but the viewpoint was not inside, it was like following a close off stranger to do things. Even the readers was not that welcome (yet?) to his personal world.

I made peace with that, as I weirdly respect this characters decision but again it made me care less.

Then I turned to the romance. Would it be interesting to see this two people's journey to their romance? And I find myself uninterested.

For one because I did not love the MC so I could care less about his love life, and two because the ML was a bit predictable. He had a doting love interest pasted on his face. He liked the MC from the start and had been pursuing him. Though he might also have objective reasons behind it, but it was clear he would be a devoted love interest it was just a matter of time before the MC fell too. The process and the result of this romance did not excite me. It was not that dynamic enough. It did not feel equal. There's only a little tension and the chemistry was not established yet or is not working.

It wasn't bad. I had read worse. It was not that simple and generic. It's decent but I could not care more.

This book is not bad, it only felt lacking to me but maybe personal preference and one's standard took a part of it. I could not nitpick it but I have a lot of things that could make it better or in line with what I want. This case is more in line with respecting an author's choice, not a critic to one's talent as this was objectively decent, it felt uninteresting to me but maybe not for you. <<less

a seemingly undefeatable antagonist, charismatic main and side characters, power couple and a romance transcending time and reality. This novel has it all. Huai shang you have done it again. The moment I clicked on the novel’s page and saw it was by the same person that wrote poyun, I was like “say no more” and immediately clicked on it. And let me tell you, this had me on the edge of my seat by chapter 1 to chapter 119. The world building is absolutely fantastic. The racial tensions, the... more>> social conflicts, human relationships, the extreme groups, the political issues and corruption, the hrg plan, the skills of every evolutionist you see in the series and their uses, you can see every consequence brought by a possible sudden evolution of the human species was thought through. The characters backstories, the trauma they have experienced, and their emotions and reactions were also believable. Also, this novel has the most diverse cast I've seen for a danmei in a while, if not ever. We got egyptians, latinos, germans, the japanese, the french 😒, and even extraterrestrial beings in this series, apart from of our chinese characters, which i’m pleasantly surprised and impressed the author managed to capture the cultural differences without being racist, which is very nice!

i love the main couple of course, our powerful supervisor shen and his loyal main wife bai sheng. Their romance was well fleshed out, with believable conflicts and reasons for shen zhuo’s inicial rejection of bai sheng and his unwillingness to admit his feelings for him, and lots of lovey dovey moments coming mostly from our very wealthy comedian philosophy major bai sheng’s initiative, who subverted all expectations and defeated the stereotype of “broke college student”.

the side couple was also really nice, and although we didn’t have a lot of shui ronghua and italdo moments, I found myself also rooting for them to be able to stay together until the very end.

and lastly, the seemingly immortal main antagonist, who actually posed a threat to the very delicate balance between evolutionists and normal people human society had going, was actually terrifying. He always seemed to be one step ahead of everyone, and really had me doubting how could anyone possibly defeat this guy until the very end.

this is a really well written book. The plot twist were plot-twisting, the romance was romancing and the plot was plotting. Dare I say huai shang’s best work. Read this people! <<less

The novel left a pleasant aftertaste. It weaves together many different emotions, but the end result is something truly beautiful and worthy.

Unlike Breaking Through the Clouds and Swallowing the Seas, which have a great start but a lot of "Santa Barbara" in the middle and towards the end, everything in this novel comes together more pleasantly. And there is no such principle in the relationships between heroes: push and pull.

Wonderful story! Especially for those who like: Power Couples, Snarky Dialog, Funny Side Characters, Amazing Battle Scenes, Epic Battles for Future of Humanity, and just sheer craziness.

Of course, none of that would matter if the story wasn't tightly plotted with well developed characters that have layered backstories, and interesting setting that I would term pre-apocalypse with -most- of the characters trying to prevent the worst from happening, plenty of secrets and twists, examining the problems that come with longstanding power imbalances, all beautifully managed and controlled as the author brings... more>> the story to a thrilling conclusion.

Definitely worth reading! <<less

finally modern novel from my beloved danmei author~

well I won't say much because it's still ongoing, there may be many 'traps'.

even it's modern novel, it's more like alternate universe where meteorites triggered evolution toward humanity. so yeah, X-men but danmei.

gong is hilarious, but strong and friendly. I still want to know how far his friendliness goes... though it's quite certain he has top sense of justice.

shou, oh boy, this shou is practically a do-S queen. nothing can make him faltered, nobody can touch his heart.

yea, at this point gong still can't really open shou's heart. edit: after ch39, finally our pretty shou tried hard to save gong! yey!

still need more observation.

LMAO. because, yeaaa, Bai Sheng is definitely the hilarious, tough and funny guy like Yan Xie. tbh, I'm really impressed with the world setting, but you must know that HS's strength is not setting, her specialty is characters. but if you ask me which HS' novel has more knives...... Tunhai is still the top, still unbeatable.

An advice. After the first 30 ch try thinking about everything: from plot to characters, world building and logical links. I did it too late and realized I don't like this story as much as I though...

It's an alright Novel, decent quality. But I have different points that didn't sit right with me and make it difficult to go on reading:

1- MC is portrayed too much like some mystical figure (both cool and handsome, beautiful and smart, cold yet sometime compassionate, and they go on...). I get that he has... more>> a God sent IQ level but we don't even really see him working on the research itself, only from time to time mentioning some (il) logical connection and theories when they get new clues.

Which brings me to the second point:

2- Non-sensical world building and weird hole-filled plot. I admit it is difficult to convince me with any type of supernatural context where people suddently gain sort of magical abilities. But. I guess it would have helped not making everything so Human-Evolutionary centred and maybe more of a global case, changing not only people but also animals, plants, even inorganic material, maybe the planet ecosystem. This world is too shallow, it's like reading about the Tolomeic system with the universe rotating around Earth.

Even more considering the presence of alien forces - also shallowly described, they could have made them appear more involved in human history and evolution - with concequences of the face slapping of genetic superiority from this seemengly advanced societies. I get the gist but by how it was described, so superficially, it's totally unbelievable. They couldn't have been more generic. Also the events are pretty predictable and at time the characters made such obvious points like they were world-shattering truths and I was like "No sh*t Sherlock"

Antropocentrism at it's greatest, I can get it being a thing among people but why is the universe going along with this bullcr*p. Also for science and research being a main plot pillar the things said really sound like something my middleschool aged self could have phantomed (not written, tho). And everything from a genetic, biological point of view is so generic, undetailed, basically has no real foundation, they cite Darwin twice and expect us to be like "Ohhh, smart people talk". I might sound b*tchy but that's how it is...

3- MC has too many admires, like c'mon, I won't count them for spoiler sake but it really gets tiring after a while. Also, why main couples always have to end up adopting random kids left and right. The romance is alright, they click well, but MC has some serious as*hole tendecies, at first it was refreshing and even understandable at times, but became too much and don't make him really likeable, especially in avoidable situations. Also, why is he never wrong if not for silly things...

I'm writing this review after I finished reading the work. In fact, the reading took me several months to finish. There were many reasons for that, but that's not to say that the work is bad.

In some places I found it dragged on, at the end I wanted to finish it sooner. The moral agony of the choice was harder on me than the bloody scenes. That's the end of the cons.

Further only pluses: well-developed balanced characters. Many characters, many lines and no one is lost. Everyone got their well-deserved... more>> finale. The work flowed briskly. And I was almost tearing up with excitement at their final extras.

I was confused by some of the animal scenes, but I turn a blind eye to that because the rest of the dynamics of the work were sobering.

I was a Nielsen fan, but I've moved on to the Cameron clan. (We listen, but we don't judge:). The cutiness of the main characters was sometimes excessive, I needed someone to balance it out.

The work is an unquestionable 5/5. I found it by accident and my first impression didn't seem deep or important, but the book took a huge part of my heart.

The moral and ethical dilemmas brought to the surface are reminiscent of George Orwell's “1948” and “Animal Farm”. Can you imagine how much the writer has modernized and re-purposed still stable problems?

And if Orwell is unbearably difficult for me to read, then here everything goes off without a hitch.

I'm in the club of fans and admirers. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in the translation and a big bow to the writer. It was a powerful. <<less

OMG!!!! This is so good.... the novel is packed with every element in proper proportions.... although some complex science stuff things went over my head but it's easy to get what they are saying.... translation is also good... the best thing is that it's COMPLETED!!

I just read over 30 or 40 novels lasts months, only entirely reading the ones that were fine, but I was desesperate to find another gem in this website.

I found it. This novel is a gem.

... more>> Yes, it might not be the brightest gem ever bc there are some inconstancies, the problem were easily resolved at the end and some would even complain about the end itself.

But it was, without a doubt, a gem.

If you like absolutely beautiful MC who are also extremely smart / intelligent, sassy, broken but capable of dominating the entire world by their intelligence, read this.

If you like handsome ML who are also smart, very funny, very possessive and extremely loyal and loving towards the MC, read this.

If you like good second characters, read this.

If you like good fleshed villains and good plot, read this.

Of course for the romance part bc I see some critics, yes it's not instant love.

It's extreme interest at first slowly developping towards an amazing love between our two main charaters, both having complex personnalities.

The MC isn't cold as some said, but knowing his past, his personality, his intelligence and how the world view him, of course he just couldn't just be submissive and instead, his love shows first with actions rather than with words.

For those complaining honestly, just tell me at least 20 romance light novels better than this, bc personnally I can't.

I was really hooked at the start and couldn't stop reading it, the universe and most of the characters are pretty interesting and even tho the power system is simple it makes for a lot of interesting fights.

The main problem is the progress of the main couple that is pretty stagnant and develops in such a weird way. After their "breakup" at the hotel you would expect more changes in their relationship but they stay basically the same, they get close again and even with MC being affectionate towards the... more>> ML and showing to care about him the whole situation still seems to be a chore to him, especially after the implied s*x scenes in which he just seems obliged to control a beast and doesn't seem to get any pleasure from it.

They still have some pretty cute and compelling moments together through the novel but I think having the progress of the romance be like that at 57% of a damnei is pretty tedious.

Also there are some inconsistencies in the antagonist's plan, it looks like there were a lot of ways in which they could have achieved their objective easily, but the story makes it look like the only way to do that would be getting the MC which doesn't really make sense. <<less

I am so so soooo happy I read this epic story 😭💝 It got my heart aching at one moment, then laughing out loud the next. So much action, and so we'll translated, I could see it in my head playing out like a webtoon or even an anime.

I am in love with the MC. He's so OP in some ways, but it's like 'hell yeah he should be' in a world with superpowers.

I love the ML too, and so many secondary characters made this such a joy to read.... more>> I loved the sprinkling of found-family.

This was a great read. Definitely coming back to read this again in the future. <<less

Only halfway through the novel at present, but I had to stop and write a glowing review first.

The characters are so well-written and compelling, they feel like real people with real, human motivations. I love the character growth and seeing how Shen Zhuo (our cold, principled, super-intelligent MC who definitely has many layers of secrets under his skin) slowly thaws and becomes more human around Bai Sheng. By volume 2, Shen Zhuo's true personality is coming out - and under the coldness, he is snarky, bitingly funny, always ready to... more>> trade quips with Bai Sheng, and less rigid than we realise (when he deals with children like Yang Xiaodao, for example).

Bai Sheng, also, is an amazingly intriguing character. He looks like the less mysterious of the two, but under his joker's persona and charismatic and sunny disposition, there are times we see flashes of his own ruthlessness and the darkness in his past. A running gag is that he is just the stereotype of an air-headed, rich 2nd-generation heir who will throw money around cheerfully, and that he can't match Shen Zhuo in intelligence, but from subtle clues we learn that's not true. Bai Sheng is as smart and strong as Shen Zhuo, he just hides it better behind his extroversion and good humour.

Also, I can't get over the endless stream of nonsense that comes out of his mouth - I've not laughed so hard at such shamelessness since Luo Wenzhou from Silent Reading. The banter between Bai Sheng and Shen Zhuo is 10/10 entertaining and is a good break from all the action and serious plotting in the background.

The translators are doing an amazing job, clearly. Give it a read! <<less

One of my favorites. The ML is such a hoot and I love the way his powers work. The characters are all fleshed out nicely, and the plot points make sense as new information is revealed and breadcrumbs are dropped. Overall, solid worldbuilding and a satisfying resolution to such a complicated world.

This is a great novel though the plot dragged on a little bit more than it should be. MC is a normal human who couldn't evolve no matter what due to certain reasons. Yet, all the evolved people fear this one ordinary human being because of his talents. ML although has OP power, the chance that his power would fail is also high so the character is quite balanced imo. And the fact that ML sometimes couldn't save MC (he saved himself or solved the problem with his own strength)... more>> is also a plus point for this novel. Lastly, I have never seen a novel that mentions my country Myanmar (though it was stated as the land where bad people are at ^^!) as this one. I guess bad red is also red so I am satisfied that several events happened on our land xD Anyways, you can give it a try if you like strong MC, complicated plot, surprising plot twist and an almost completed novel world with very little plot holes. <<less

MC - Shen Zhuo x ML - Bai Sheng - On the surface it has an antagonist that is omnipotent, it has a charismatic MC and a dashing, philosophical ML with side characters both good and evil that add a powerful layer to the story. This power couple and their romance transcends time and space. But underneath all of that is the moral conundrum of what it means to be human and how accepting are we as a race.

Entertaining, unpredictable read. Although at first I felt resistance in continuing since MC's, Shen Zhuo, exceptional looks were brought up too often. But thankfully the author chilled out and the tone of the story became consistent.

The plot, romance, and mystery is good. However, I felt that MC's interactions with ML, Bai Sheng, was out of character at times. Maybe it's just me being overly sensitive (I won't specify it, possibly other readers will think the same though). Most of the plot was logical but I didn't completely understand

ML's causality ability. If it erases the existence of a person in the timeline, even that their children no longer exist, then won't the butterfly effect morph into a nuclear explosion? Why so little impact to the plot? 🤔

Anyways, the romance is intense sometimes. ML is like an untamed beast, possessive of MC and still willing to be at MC's service. MC has to cajole and lay down the law to keep ML nature in check. The dynamic can't be considered bad but it isn't ideal either. It's a flaw that ML recognizes in himself and tries to control.

MC is an orphan. He lost his childhood memories due to a traumatic event. Later, it is revealed that MC's parents were scientists. With information from an alien entity, they birthed MC, a genetically perfect child.

With the success of MC's birth, his parents worked to create a perfect body for the alien to occupy. However, before this was completed, they found out that the alien was actually an imprisoned criminal exiled into space. The alien wanted to rule over the human race with his followers.

MC's parents tried to prevent this from happening and ended up dying. The things that happened to MC later was due to the alien returning to earth with the meteorites.

In the end, ML erases the alien with his causality ability and MC turns back time to before the meteorites enter Earth. The meteorites bypass Earth, with one meteorite hitting ML. Only ML is affected and becomes Earth's only ability user. Later they do help others regain their abilities but only a handful. MC and ML work together to stabilize the world since a large population still retained their memories of the five years before time was rewound.
