Xiao Shan is a famously profligate prince, the kind that makes his emperor father angry just by being seen. Xiao Shan’s greatest wish in life is to be a salted fish who lives without any worldly strife, until his father bestows upon him Xie Zhui, a ger who has been mixing with men, to be his bride.

Xie Zhui took his brother’s place in the army at fourteen, achieved great merits by successfully defending against enemies outside the northern border city at sixteen, and was discovered to be a ger after being seriously injured at eighteen.

After returning to the capital, the emperor pardoned Xie Zhui’s crime of deceiving the monarch and bestowed him to Xiao Shan as his rightful spouse.

Everyone says that Xiao Shan has married a ger who came out of a pile of men, with a vast grassland above his head. They think about how much the emperor must dislike Xiao Shan to have given him such a troublesome marriage.

Laid back story, with no unneccessary dramas. I liked all the characters. But I felt that the plot twist just Suddenly came & went, like summarized in 2-3 chapters. It would been better, if the plot twist had some development few chapters back. Overall great one to read.

Also, WHY THE HELL THERE IS NO UPDATE OR CLOSURE FOR XIE CHEN....... I was kinda waiting......

Firstly, I really loved Xiao Shan—he's truly one of a kind.😍 But what I enjoyed the most, was the bickering between Xiao Shan and Xiao Rong. Gosh, they’re hilarious! HAHAHA! I just can’t with them. Their love-hate relationship is really something. At first, I thought Xiao Rong would end up being a villain, but luckily, that wasn’t the case.

Xiao Shan - I don’t think I’ve ever been this endeared to a prince before. He’s such a refreshing character compared to other royalty-themed stories. I absolutely loved how honest he is... more>> and how open he is about what he’s thinking—even when it comes to his grievances. Considering that in most royal families, it’s normal to fear the emperor, Xiao Shan stands out as someone completely shameless and fearless. 😆 I loved his relationship with the emperor and the loyalty he shares with his second brother, the crown prince. The trust between them is so mutual and firm. However, there were moments when I just felt bad for Xiao Shan. At the same time, I felt lonely for Xiao Jin as well. He gained the throne, but his closest brother had to leave.

The only thing that left me feeling a bit cheated was missing to read the "Shounen-ai" tag—haha! The censorship was really censoring. The intimate moments were described so vaguely. 😅 It’s a good thing our MC, Xiao Shan, was still such a joy to read.

Also, who’s Xie Chen’s lover?!!! I know it’s wrong, but is it Xiao Jin? Hahaha! Or maybe it’s Gu Ning? <<less

The character of ML will never stop making you laugh and the MC and ML's relationship growth is very satisfying.

The twists and turns and the bonds between the characters was a unique point.

However, I disliked that all the villians were female and the good ones were all male.

Apart from this, overall a very pleasing and satisfying novel to read with a little bit of everything mixed in and in the right proportions!!

Definitely recommend: 10/10

4.5 stars. I actually really enjoyed this a lot and have gone back and forth about whether or not I consider it a 4.5 or a 5 star.

Probably one of the best court dramas I've ever read. If you're gonna do court drama, this is how it's done. Constant scheming, twists and turns and an MC intelligent enough to navigate it all.

I absolutely love the MC. He's a character with a ton of personality. Extremely blunt and quick witted, while also being lazy and fun loving. He's also one of... more>> the greenest flags I've seen from a gong character. Not ONCE was vinegar drank by that man. ML wants to go do his own thing? Cool, it's good to have hobbies. ML wants to talk to his former military squad? Makes sense, ML is a military hero. Not once did MC ever question MLs integrity. It was REFRESHING.

Though they are married right off the bat, it doesn't follow the common trope where they hate each other. Instead, they are respectful of one another and slowly fall in love beyond the physical expectations of their marriage. Their care for one another is truly touching.

I honestly grew emotionally attached to a lot of the characters and there were several scenes that had me full blown bawling. The relationship between the Crown Prince and ML is an exceptional bond rarely seen in these court drama novels. Like these brothers truly love each other despite everyone trying to tear them apart.

Anyway, it's great. I could see myself potentially rereading it. <<less

4.5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The MC is so funny and badass. He really made this story enjoyable. His relationship with the ML is so wholesome. Such a devoted husband.

What I enjoyed the most about this story is the strong bond between the crown prince Xiao Jin and MC Xiao Shan. They trust each other wholeheartedly. Their bond is so heartwarming and there is absolutely no doubt between them.

Spoiler

I only wish there was some happiness for Xiao Jin. After everything that happened, he’s destined to have a lonely life as the emperor. With Xiao Shan living far away. People who try to sow discord between him and Xiao Shan, his broken relationship with the empress and Consort Lan. I wish Xiao Jin had someone who could make him a little bit less lonely.

[collapse]

And say whatever u want, BUT I REALLY LOVE XIAO RONG. He’s just soo funny. The way he reacts to Xiao Shan every time. And Xiao Shan making troubles for him everywhere. His relationship with his wife is also very cute.

I only wish there was more closure for other characters. Like Xie Chen, Gu Ning, Xie Sui, Xiao Xian and Xiao Jin. I would had really enjoyed to read more about them.

But it’s a lovely story. Very funny and it was a nice read. The translation was amazing! Thank you translator for your amazing work. <<less

Personal rating 4.2 a Nice story, it's pretty light despite all those twist and turn, although MC is modern people he really put his past self into corner, he keep modern value but also understand how ancient work, personally I can't link myself with any character. I feel Author just want us stay as bystander and see how everythings done, although it's ok it also gave us empty feeling after finished reading it. If u want character development read it, if u want palace drama but with smooth sailing journey... more>> read it, want early romance read it, want to see good brother relationship must read it (somewhat MC and his brothers antics is healing), if u want modern element in ancient time don't read it <<less

The story kept me captivated that I read in within a day, it is a underrated novel and I feel like I should recommend it to others who like novels that include a romance with a bit of political strife and a nice brotherly bond.

Unlike other palace drama novels I loved the interactions/bond of the princes it was a unique thing that was only possible bc of the MC's weird personality. That being said I was extremely bored. The story started of interesting with this carefree prince who even the emperor couldn't reprimand but that got boring very quick. Also the romance happens pretty early in the story so you don't get to enjoy a build of their relationship so again I was even more bored.

I got to like ch 40 and thought "d*mn... more>> do I have to read this until the end" then I realized I didn't have to. So I'm tapping out at ch 63 there us nothing more in this story I am curious about <<less
