I'm really enjoying this novel so far. The premise of a modern guy getting transported into the body of a beautiful but crazy female martial artist is ripe for comedy, and the author delivers in spades.

The main character, A-Qing, is an absolute riot. Her complete lack of understanding about the murim world's culture and her foul-mouthed, confrontational personality leads to countless hilarious interactions and misunderstandings. Yet she also shows flashes of an existential crisis over her reality, giving surprising depth.

The action sequences are great, mixing traditional murim fighting with A-Qing's... more>> unhinged berserker mentality. The world-building of the murim itself is well-researched and immersive.

Most impressively, the novel manages to be a martial arts gender-bender comedy without feeling creepy or fetishistic at all. The gender swap is treated as just an absurd premise to mine for laughs, not sexualized.

My only minor gripe is some of the humor relies a bit too much on Korean-language puns that can get a little lost in translation. But the translator does an admirable job explaining them.

Overall, this is a fresh, funny, well-written murim novel that transcends its genre trappings. I highly recommend giving the "crazy b*tch" a try! The opening chapters had me hooked. <<less

Honestly, probably my favorite novel for this genre.

Comedy hits perfectly, the translation is decent, and the main character has real struggles. Not only so, but there's actual growth and change. This is no typical overpowered, static main character novel. Previous decisions come back and actively shape the story, and we get to go on a tour of this world's "Martial World".

I think that novel encapsulates the struggles of what an actual transmigator would go through quite well, and there are many logical decisions as well as enough emotional decisions to... more>> balance it out.

Although the MC has extreme bloodlust due to their choice in the character creation screen, this is well balanced by their personal policy of only killing 'bad people'. (There's still plenty of slaughter, though.)

About the "Racism" claims:

I've seen some other reviews call the novel "blatantly racist" which I think it is not.

  1. In some parts, you may think it's racist, however, you have to read further. It seems the author has a unique style of humor, as they repeatedly call China barbaric or behind the times, but then preach about the greatness of China. In fact, I'd say this novel gave me a better impression of Ancient China.
  2. Furthermore, the author (Korean) is trying to mimic the stereotype of an unknowledgeable Korean person, which I think is where most of A-Qing's (MC) "racist tendencies" may seem to come from. A lot of the 'racism' is also tied to comedic situations or in context where it causes laughter, not hate.
  3. If you genuinely felt this novel was racist towards the Chinese people, then feel free to, especially if you are Chinese yourself. At the end of the day, how it's written, translated, and your English reading level will all affect how you perceive this novel and what you take away from it.
If you're willing to give it a try, despite the negative reviews, do it. I promise you it will not disappoint. <<less

Currently one of my favourite novels - I've read a lot of murim but this one feels like a breath of fresh air. The MC is very unhinged It has great comedy, story and good characters. The one downside is MC is racist so I would recommend it if you're able to overlook that.

"This is an apocalyptic landscape where the dead easily outnumbered the living" THIS NOVEL IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Honestly, the speed of translating and publishing the chapters makes the tl's effort visible, as there is a lot of slang and South Korean.

BUT just based on the story this is easily a 5 star rating! F*ck the old good versus evil. This is a political war for power between multiple factions. And the protagonist is an absolute beast. A conqueror. Loyal to her allies (in the chapter I'm currently in). Unshakable principles... more>> (Lmao). And ruthless with his enemies.

Mainly, since you've read the synopsis, you should know that it's a Murim World, where the development of the world is well explained and shows the martial arts of each sect that the protagonist sees or faces, and I really like female warrior protagonists, where you hardly find one, like for example in Ending Maker, or the youngest son of Master Swordsman, think of it as a simple and direct beating Shounen, only feminine, you will realize that even if the formulas are similar, you will see that it is different just because of the genre, what I liked about this difference, even the fights are detailed and in most chapters, I always end up with a smile at the foul mouth and the jokes.

Conclusion-> If you want to laugh a lot and enjoy a Murim world, welcome and read it. <<less

As a Murim hater, this didn't hit.

I try to like Murim, I really do. Every time I see a new Murim novel translated, I give it a read. I want to enjoy them. I like the power system, the fights, and the nonsensical things that happen. It's just the "Murim" part that I hate. Maybe if it was in any other setting, it'd be good, but everything about Murim just sucks. To me, every character in a Murim novel is terrible, especially side characters. Then, there's also the fact that... more>> there's so much politics in the genre that it feels like you have to wait 50 chapters to actually do anything because of some nonsense.

With that being the case, this novel should've been something I loved. It's not filled with so much Murim nonsense, and when it is, it's usually comedic and crazy. The MC is truly chaotic (which I feel fits Murim novels way better than whatever Righteous/Unorthodox/Demonic garbage) and goes at her own pace, unbothered by the world around her. And I did like it, until the MC met her teacher. This is an unpopular opinion, but I think "Masters" in a Murim novel is the worst thing you can do for the story and MC. They're like shackles. People always say, "But it's a hero's journey!", "How are they supposed to learn swordsmanship/martial arts/etc without a Master?" And all I have to say is: Look here! Exhibit A! (This novel)

After the MC meets her Master, the story takes a turn for the worse. She starts acting more "proper", watching her words and actions, not quite as vulgar, not quite as chaotic, and becomes 'Average Righteous Murim Character A'. She starts to become more like everyone else.

The author literally took what made the MC unique and shot it in the back of the head. Now she's just an idiotic ditz that's pretty strong.

That's the problem with "Masters", especially in Murim. You take a truly good and unique character and completely ruin it. More often than not, the story becomes more reliant on the Master than it does the MC and you can't tell me that's a good thing. Master's enemies become MCs enemies. Master's allies become MCs allies. Master's techniques become MCs techniques. Master's ethos becomes MCs ethos. MC can't do things the Master sees as "wrong" or stray too far along his own path, despite some even saying "take your own path". What they really mean is "take your own path that I approve of." (I know, a bit of a rant, but I'm kind of sick of it)

And that's pretty much what happens here. The MC can't stray too far from the pre-approved path or she gets beaten and locked up...

There's also the physical ab*se this MC takes from her Master. Maybe it was comical to get hit in the head once or twice, but it's not funny anymore after a dozen times in a SINGLE chapter. At least hundreds throughout the entire novel. At this point, I want the MC to stab her Master in the back for how much pain she's caused. It's almost to the point that the only pain the MC feels isn't from any enemies but from someone who is supposed to guide her under the guise of care... It's not funny.

All for what? A few techniques? That she can learn with a click of a button?

What a waste of potential.

Don't even get me started on the fact that 90% of a chapter is just filler after she meets her Master. You can summarize most chapters in just a few words. Then again, that's just Murim in general. If you're not yapping about useless nonsense 90% of the time, it's not a Murim.

The other 10%? That's plot that's in the Master's hands... MC literally has no agency anymore. Only used as a comedic relief tool that isn't even funny.

Some people are bothered by the racism, but that's honestly the least offensive thing in this novel. Also, if you feel it's racists, I'd say you need to read some more Chinese shitter novels (because this is clearly a rip on things like that, or at least that's how I take it). I also just have a general dislike toward Murim, so I don't mind the jab every now and then. I can at least relate to the MC on that.

The final nail in the coffin is the translators. Not the translation (as that's actually really good), but the site itself (Genesis). Not only are premium chapters (subscriptions) crazy expensive (like 10x some other sites), but after a novel is done, they only free up the premium chapters at a rate of like 2 chapters every 2 weeks. I know they can do whatever they want, but this feels excessively greedy. It's ~$40-$80 for just a few chapters a month on top of the few premium chapters you get... insane.

However, what brings this from a 1/5 to a 2/5 for me are the fight scenes and the pre-chapter 22 scenes. Other than that, I'd rate it at (I'd rather watch paint dry/5) <<less

How tf do yall rate this novel above 3? Not only did this novel is unfunny where the comedy is supposed to be the main attraction and point. MC IS

objectively racist incredibly unbearable absolutely ignorant annoyingly dumbwitted ret*rded, arrogant, slow, s*upidly naive, not right in the head unfunny piece of shi with some neurodevelopmental issue and mental ret*rdation with the WORST TEMPER ever. For thos saying this novel aint racist has gotta be

RACIST themselves. Its literally written and literally exposed everywhere blatantly, like literally right in front of your eyes.... more>> Its undeniably racist to the point where u started to think whether the author has ulterior motives or not. Bad intention and implications written all over each chapters. MC is pretty much a dumb type psychopath who was constantly pissed off and threw shi to the word around her by executing it or handling each situation shes get herself into in a worst way possible js to then whine and throw a tantrum when shi dont go her way or when she face a consequences. Also how could you only consider learning something after few of chapters already passed or for a period of long time knowing you alr mentioned it but not even trying to achieve it in the first place js to pull it back later? Is you ret*rded?

let's be fr with me for a second. Take a step back and consider this. If she isn't a Protagonist, and instead js be a mere side character, she would UNDOUBTEDLY be a third rate villain who everybody hate.

The way the author execute what they consider crazy was flawed, as they thought they cook in the comedy department, but it mostly fall flat. And you know when it comes to that, it's always giving you the most cringed unbearable feeling. It feels like the Protagonist just being an as*hole for no apparent reason.

Piece of garbage. Overrated as f*ck. If u think this type of racism funny u gotta be sped or sum. This ain't funny. This is just an insult.

This will give you the same feeling of that dark joke meme. It's not funny. It's just being Cornball and edgy with no solid foundation. And if it's supposed to be a joke than the entirety of this shi must be a joke in itself cause I'm laughing at it, not with or through it. Such a bad execution. No payoff or good delivery whatsoever. The punchline was dried asf.

It got you thinking that this shi migh have been written by sum edgy child old write in their spare time or at least some typa loser. You could literally see the sign all over it. Don't forget about the tell don't show flaws too that are wayyy to apparent in this bullshi.

The comedy department of this novel is soooooooo failed dat it turns unbearable, unreadable, and problematic. At best it could be slightly good. Mostly annoying or slumbersome

Summary: A cheap fcking knock off murim version of madman In fantasy novel if the Protagonist is dumb and sped headless racist neanderthal piece of shi with ZERO CLEAR THOUGHTS WHATSOEVER

For a comedy/parody take on the isekai to a world of Murim, there's a lot of problems.

I do like the main character. Too many times do we see characters in Chinese cultivation novels get gifted such broken systems that they don't even need to lift their finger to progress realms. They have a "sign in bonus" system where all they do is sit there and sign in and cultivate a million times faster; they don't even need to compete for cultivation resources! And this is why the novel is somewhat... more>> successful. The main character is floundering around, completely mentally unstable, and despite having knowledge that this is a game world, doesn't know too much about it.

While the MC has a completely broken set of abilities, since he doesn't know what the world's plot is at all or what's going on, he's still running around like a headless chicken. Rather than say that his OP abilities benefit him, some of them straight up make him go crazy instead.

This is the start of what sounds like a fun novel to read. The problem, however, is that the novel isn't funny. For a comedic novel, it's really lackluster. The whole appeal of the novel is that the MC is crazy sometimes, loves killing, and also has a lack of "common sense" of the world that allows for some fun situations to happen. The problem is that there is no side cast of characters. The side characters, their POV and reactions are honestly what make a novel fun to read. This novel just has our MC walking around Murim, interacting with new faces, only to leave the area and do it over and over again. It's not really fun because there's no existing set of side characters to complement our MC.

There's only so many times our MC killing over food is funny or going on his tangents and whims is going to be funny. When all the characters he talks to just got introduced a few chapters back, there's a complete lack of immersion and no one to play off him Overall, a fun concept but the author can't write. <<less

It's pretty good. The protagonist is not at all likeable - but they aren't meant to be. They have a strong personality which is often used to drive forwards the plot (even if some of the time, they're motivated by external forces instead).

Translation quality is excellent, with footnotes to explain cultural differences between the original writer and the reader, along with being as faithful to the original as possible.

I'm really enjoying this novel so far. I've only recently started checking out murim novels and this one is definitely my favorite so far. The MC not being into the Murim setting leads to a lot of funny moments and leads to genuinely making me laugh occasionally. Also, the novel does a good job of avoiding being stale, plus MCs heaven slaying star affliction is clearly getting worse and worse as the novel continues which to me shows that the author won't get stuck in. A single status quo and... more>> the MC will have to change/do something to address the star as things go on. I only have two criticisms, one is that (like all Genesis TL stuff) the update frequency is painfully slow. The second is that unfortunately the author has the MC say random racist stuff (once against black people, all other times against Chinese people) and while it's only happened 5 or so times and doesn't really ruin the novel as long as you ignore and move past it, it still sucks that it's included, to the point where I kinda wish the TL would just editorialize a bit and take them out (literally adds nothing to the story) <<less

For now 3.5 stars. The story start off good, pretty refreshing despite MC is a girl (most stories I read have male mc). It somewhat was chill and lighhearted while still able to contain good action scenes and gores. MC was kinda crazy but at the same time naive. She is the very chaotic crazy kind who go with the flow, yolo everything, but still have good nature at her core. But the more I read the more I find her reckless, mad rabid dog nature surface. She is very... more>> ignorance of everything, not the kind of harmless naive but the kind of idiotic deadly self-harm. Idk she became more vicious and ruthless solely because of the evil Martial art she learned or it is just the trait her body pocess from the beginning but it become way less enjoyable when all she think all the time is to kill bad people recklessly. It will be fine if she is at least scheme and good at covering up her bad deeds but she always show it out blatantly and be at the mercy of other. So pretty much she is surviving by relying on plot amor. Still I think this story has potential so I will keep reading it and hope for the best.

Edit: drop at chapter 160. MC is just too crazy for my liking. <<less

OP protag who is troll and is rightfully slightly insane upon being thrust into a video game. The MC is a bit of a mu*der hobo but it really fits. It's a fun story to spend time with. The MC is s*upidly naive in a what can you do sort of way but it kinda of makes sense given where she ended up and how she got there. The side characters can be a bit bland but they're few and unique enough to be memorable.

The only real grip I have is the blatant racism disguised as humour. I've made it pretty far but it's gotten to be annoying to read about Chinese barbarians that are dirty and crude. It's not... more>> too often, about once every dozen chapters or so but it's definitely noticeable enough to be a main part of the story. The the translation quality can also be a bit iffy, like some character names not being right or reading like a typical translated novel.

Other than that it's a pretty good story. The genderbend is entertaining, the plotline is fun and the mu*dering manic who only kills definitvely evil people is a weirdly addictive. <<less
