I Became A Flashing Genius At The Magic Academy

Description

A character with extreme difficulty and the worst performance, Baek Yu-Seol was considered tr*sh in the game because he couldn’t use magic in a fantasy world where everyone else could.

However…

[Due to the wrong ending, 90% of Aether World has been destroyed.]

[Please reach the ‘True Ending.’]

Suddenly, those words echoed in my mind before I was transmigrated to the Aether World.

[You can use the skill ‘Flash’.]

“Why did I possess this character?”

Flash was the only magic skill I was given.

Surviving in Stella Academy where many genius mages ran rampant, I became the notorious Flash Mage.

I liked it a lot. Although the game the MC played before transmigrating seems like a mess, it doesn’t seem to be relevant to the main plot so it gets a pass in my opinion. I think the dynamic where there is the OG ml, the reincarnated main character, and our main character is kinda interesting. Personally I like these kinds of misunderstandings but if you don’t then it might be jarring because misunderstandings is a pretty important part of the story.

Haha, what can I say? Let's start with the title, I guess. It's a very misleading title, but it's not the "flashing" you might be thinking of xD Although I admit, when I first saw the title, I was a little suspicious, but ahem xD

As for the novel itself, it's an isekai, as you could probably tell from the description. And well, what can I say? If you like misunderstandings like TNE, give it a go. I myself am a sucker for these kinds of misunderstanding stories xD

Basically just sit... more>> back and watch the characters react and misunderstand his use of flashing or inability to use magic and be impressed by his knowledge from the game.

One interesting thing to note is the multi-layered transmigration. I won't hide this in a spoiler, since he mentions it very early on because it's part of the setting of the game, but the protagonist of the game he plays is a transmigrated character. So basically the game itself is about a character transmigrating into a novel, and now he has transmigrated into that game as a different character, which to me is quite an interesting premise.

The reason I mention this aspect specifically is because it creates some rather interesting interactions and misunderstandings as of c27, which I'm sure would be a pleasure to read for some people who, like me, enjoy seeing these misunderstandings xD And I'm eagerly looking forward to how the misunderstandings develop, haha. <<less

I have no idea where to look for the MTL so I guess I'll just wait for the TL of it, help plz.

Now then, onto a review on this, I like it, I'm actually hooked on this, if this were 40 chapters, it would've just ended in a day, none of the chapters are short either (less then 200 words... I think).

Now then, if you've read the synopsis, you'll see that he played a tr*sh character for 10 years, he mained said character for the entirety of those 10 years... more>> and with that alone, it's pretty obvious the dude ain't normal.

The prologue starts off with him slightly prior to transmigration and I'd say the prologue is chapter 1 so don't skip it.

Let's see, anything else I can say? Uh, the kuudere is the best girl. <<less

A very great read. Many arcs in the novel are very well-written and keeps you engaged. The MC is a smart genius and he is likeable. Honestly it's one of the best academy setting novels out there. It is just so well-executed and the plot is just great. There are many interesting characters as well, and they definitely add to the story. Especially I think Flame is the best character besides MC, and I love all the misunderstandings about the MC that occur. There are many novels that have boring/limited... more>> characters but it isn't the case for this novel. There were many times I would just want to binge read this and enjoyed it a lot. There is a sort of harem but honestly it's not really annoying atleast so far, since there is a development of affection towards the MC that happens naturally over time. I would say the only downside for me is that it does tend to focus more on MC's relationships with the girls, instead of other interesting characters like Ma Yuseong. The pacing and execution of the story is very good though. The story is exciting and makes you curious about what cool things the MC will do next. I am definitely a picky reader but this novel is one of those that I enjoyed a lot. Overall, I definitely recommend. <<less

I really want to like it, but it focuses on a lot of mundane stuff.

It was looking great. A MC who can only use Flash (a unstable teleport spell). The first fight was fun to read and already showing readers how the combat will be like with MC's unique fighting style.

However, it went the dreaded school route. A lot of stories do this and it's a hit and miss arc. This one missed for me. It introduced a lot of characters, but failed to keep my attention. There were some... more>> interesting characters, such as the villainess and the game's world protag, but it's short and focusing on mundane stuff like magic lectures or school interactions.

I think I just failed to get interested on any of the characters. Which sucks because I really like the idea of reading a novel that focuses on using Flash in fights; since I used to play League of Legends.

Overall, give it a try. Maybe it's be more attention grabbing for you than me. <<less

I enjoyed reading the novel up til c219 where the writing quality declined story wise. It started to feel tedious in plot progression as it introduces new elements that weren't mentioned in the past 200 chapters without providing a satisfactory explanation or lore regarding it. Also, just turn off your mind regarding the fact that Baek played a female-oriented dating simulation game b/c it feels like it gets described more as Visual Novel RPG game than a dating sim???? IDK how to describe it, but def not a dating sim.

However,... more>> the overarching mystery for each main character (Baek, Flame, Eisel, Hong, Ma Yuseong) are interesting and opens up new questions about them after learning new information. This aspect is what kept me reading.

Character wise, I'm mixed feelings about as it shoved a lot of the male characters to the side making them "relevant" when Baek needed to team up with other characters. I wish they were better integrated into the overall plot line as the female characters were.

Now for the female characters, I enjoyed all of their character developments which made them fascinating individuals to read; however, this novel is unfortunately a harem. Once the said characters had their internal conflicts resolved (while the external problems are ongoing problems), they misunderstand some of MC's past actions as it got re-contextualized hence falls in love with him. I dislike it. It feels weird and turns them 1 dimensional when interacting with Baek.

This aspect is actually more of a nitpick from me. 280+ chapters into the novel what the f*ck do you mean that with all the hospitalizations and events that occurred so far, it has not even been a year, but more like 6-8 months? I feel that the main cast should be in their 2nd year by now and not... just entering their 2nd semester as 1st year students.

Overall, a solid read for the first 200 chapters, but loses its way afterward. Hopefully later chapters becomes more cohesive and less janky by not adding random new elements that were never introduced <<less

Eh its above its class when in comes to Academy stories

The characters are great imo the way they interact with the MC is great nonetheless they do be making kinda annoying when they mention how amazing the MC for like the hundredth time but I should've brought myself already knowing that as for the story progression its very solid as so far I don't see their being a problem somethings are a bit mucky like how the story only seems to rotate around females as it seems like author didn't... more>> think of making at least one male character more prominent.

Another problem I got was the fact that brody seems to be a chick magnet cause somehow every single girl seems to want to be with this man like its actually crazy how quickly every female began obsessing over this guy.

As for the fights their are ok since their pretty quick and usually end with everyone admiring the MC for once again and personally I think his main ability is somewhat lacking not the concept but the way he uses it kinda makes me question if the Author cause maybe im talking out of my ego but I feel like theirs more ways to use flash when it has a 3 second cool down.

Even tho it seems like I did a lot of hating for rating this a 4 I honestly think that its pretty good so far and thats through mostly the story plots and the interesting main characters mostly the 3 heroines and some other side characters, give this a try if you like academy stories and don't mind the normal tropes that fill these stories

Side Note: Damn Bronny to lakers honestly thought the knicks was going to pick him up but its fire seeing LeGoat with his kid and we can all agree Jared Mccain had the toughest suit on, so proud of my man he going to be doing tt dances in the nba now. <<less

The story has some cliche setting but execution of the story is the best so far, characters in the story develop in three dimention. Mistery around the MC questioned repetedly unlike other stories. You can see writer has spent some effort for small details so plot hole seems non existent.

I like that the MC is not too OP and unlike most harem novels, there are many competent and OP male characters other than MC. The MC is okay but the FLs are all so full of themselves. Somehow, they always categorize the MC's actions as MC's silent love for themselves. But that's typical of harem genre to create a harem for MCs that are not that interested to FLs, for FLs to misunderstood MCs actions as woos to them.

What I don't understand is the setting of the game. It's... more>> supposed to be a female-oriented dating simulation game and a single player game. In MC's experience of the game, how come you can proceed with the plot story when you're not playing the female protagonist, how does that work as a single player female-oriented dating simulation game? The MC also mentioned that in his last time gaming, the female protagonist was missing. How do the game plot progress? <<less

I've only read the manhwa (chapter 22 after massrelease) so I can't particularly say anything about the writing/translation (not the plot-writing type thing) but for the manhwa, it's been an exciting read so far. I do understand that some may think his Blink/Flash is OP, but regarding how it's been inferred to by other students in the manwha and the MC himself, I feel like it's not as OP as a certain someone believes it to be. If its simply teleporting to a place— you stand at f. Ex B2,... more>> flash, you're suddenly standing at E4, then sure, it'd be pretty simple. However, the MC says he has to take note of calculating the distance, timing, and use the terrain to his advantage which makes it unnecessarily complex— hence why the skill in question is regarded as such. I feel like more than just a teleporting ability, it's like going in a 'straight line.' Now, don't take my words to heart because I don't remember half the details of the skill so I may be wrong, but MC also says that if you were to do even the slightest miscalculation you could bump into something/someone and die instantly because of the force. At first I was like ??? But then I kinda thought about it again and I just feel like the ability is more akin to moving at a fast pace (in other words, at the speed of light) while going in a straight (?) line/direction. The reason MC can only teleport infront of an enemy instead of behind is because he would die from the impact of crashing right into said enemy, I think. I don't know though, it's just my speculation so I wouldn't know if it gets explained later on or not. Or maybe I'm entirely wrong. Who knows! <<less

the idea is good, I like a char with limited skill instead of stealing, copying, devouring all skill. His usage of flash is awesome ngl, but I can't bear with the flow.

Spoiler

at the early chapter when the gray robbed girl, kill the pursuer with ice magic. MC asked her why did she help him. She answered like, I don't help you (not in tsundere mode, but more flat tone). I was like sis, you just killed without a reason you were more dangerous. Then why you helped him? Were you just enjoy killing?

small disturbance, but it's ok, let's try a bit more.

[collapse]

then at enrollment whatever test.

Spoiler

MC already stated that he is on the bottom rank, and the school already showed us the top five. Then why not just divide the class based on that result. But no, somehow the academy wanted to test them again maybe to set a stage for MC to 'shock' people on combat test

[collapse]

so on the written test is the reason I can't bear it anymore

Spoiler

there are thousands student on the test. Somehow when MC pull out his spectacles to cheat, immediately the professor caught him (how?). Then the prof check his spectacles, found nothing wrong, gave back the spectacles. MC happy but after answered like 3 questions then the time's up (wut?).

then the prof checked mc's test then asked for his spectacles again. Prof found nothing wrong with it, then called another prof to check, and it's still nothing wrong. Then the prof said "interesting". Then nothing happened.

yup that awkward/weird scene is so out of the place for me.

why not just skip the written exam when there is nothing useful happened? Just glossed it over with. The written exam is hard for MC because he didn't know anything so he could only count on combat exam blablabla.

Coming back to read after so long with this new novel has made me excited! It really has some potential to become the outstanding isekai without that cringe "I can dominate the world!" or "Because I have developed lalala lilili" things. The first 14 chapters already show that each character has their unique charm, with emphasis on the main character BSY, and they are similar to how students in the real world behave.

With foreshadowing of course because that's the main point of changing an original storyline. All in all, I... more>> am eager to read the whole story and uncover the stellar things in the Stella Academy hehe~ <<less

As others reviewers have already mentioned, though isekai, it has an interesting concept of layered transmigration (Game that is an otome in which the heroine is transmigrated from a reality of a modern world, into the "original" story of a novel.) Its very much a misunderstandings story, and as such it will not be for everyone.

But from my admittedly limited experience on this novel and other reviews, its far more amusing than it is frustrating, because the main man is genuinely just trying to survive, has tried to be nice... more>> to some and is a troll to others, and as such gets roped into matters. To not mention being a wizard of a single spell and a commoner in an academy of elites.

Its ripe with shenanigans and misunderstanding, but it leans far more into being enjoyable developments than simply the author "Stalling" on a realization via denseness or miss-interpreting intentions. <<less

The Synopsis might need a little tweaking but it kinda explains the goal of the novel.

MC gets isekai-ed into a video game.

Spoiler

To keep things even more interesting - there's another character in the video game's story who got isekai-ed into a novel which is currently the video game - so technically while this character is from the "real world" their world is also based in the fictional one.

[collapse]

A slightly unique take on isekai - the MC is only good at one type of magic while being a wizard - because he has some sort of medical condition which is also beneficial to him in a way? Idk its not really explained well.

Can't really say anything about the writing since its currently only machine translated - if u check the current translators site it has a disclaimer explaining that while its a "high quality MTL" it may have issues - which it does, im sure other reviewers have mentioned it. If the translations get sorted out, this could be a decent novel.

While they have made the MC look weak with his singular ability, it does seem like he's besting everyone who has multiple abilities so wish that would tone down a bit so we could see him progress since this is a progression type novel and not an already-progressed type of novel.

So far so good, 3.5/5 <<less

The first novel that I read, and it's very good if we don't include the ending. 🙃 I love the characters, especially Flowerseorin. Their my favorite character even though they didn't get a gender in the end because their love for Yu-seol never truly blossomed 🙁

The reason why I dove into the novel is because of the fact that there are 3 main characters, which was very unique in my opinion. And also the art of the manhwa which was also unique and I was captivated by it.

Overall, It's a solid... more>> 8/10 would be 10 if the ending wasn't so horrible. <<less

all the characters are actually really distinct and funny especially the MC half of the time he doesn't even know what he is doing since he doesn't remember the original plot and actually has to improvised to move the plot instead of completely following it, the heroine are great to they don't feel bland at all and each of them has their own motivations.

Very excited to see this being translated! It's a fun story with some familiar tropes (Character isekai'd into a video game world as his character, has to get the 'good ending' with his game knowledge, has a special skill that carries him through many problems while also being a problem in and of itself).

One thing that sets this apart has been its focus on the characters, as well as how the story uses the idea of multiple forms of media to change the world. I'm reminded of the differences in... more>> the Witcher books and games, and how people being brought into one would have a very different view of many of the themes and endings than the other would.

Looking forward to seeing more! <<less

Finally, a proper translator picked up this novel.

Story: 9/10

I like this kind of story where the MC has limited talent, instead of having all kinds of talents. So, we can see how MC will use his brain to maximize his limited talent.

... more>> Characters: 8/10

MC is likable and other characters have a real personalities. It's still in the early story, so nothing much to say.

One thing to note, I just hate the character's name. Some have western names, and some have mixed western and Korean names. Like, c'mon author... Can you just stick to one naming convention!!?

Overall, worth your time to read. It's currently one of my favorite ongoing novels on this site. <<less

I've read the MTL and found the concept fresh and engaging. The MC's ability to weave through the different challenges he face doesn't rely on the usual system BS, but the creative use of his limited arsenal. I don't have any strong opinions on other characters as I've read only this far yet, but so far I can see it's pretty promising.

The translation is decent, and I'm hoping the translator keeps up at it. I'll revisit this after it reaches 100+ chaps, though I have an overall pretty good impression... more>> about this novel. Very thankful that proper translations got picked up! I read ahead from the previous translations, but this translation seems to be the most consistent to read!

The story itself is quite simple, but the world-building is also unique and interesting to learn about. MC still mostly sees the world as a game and has fun but is portrayed in a refreshing manner instead of being annoying/repetitive.
