The original owner of the body had a face that went against the gods and could clearly rely on this face to dominate the entertainment industry. However, he believed in the instigation of his brainless agent and took part in a special ‘drinking party.’ He ended up disfigured and ruined.

He was an 18th tier cannon fodder who only appeared in three chapters. He simply had the word ‘miserable’ engraved on his forehead.

The movie emperor Ji Li transmigrated into this book and ripped up the terrible character design on the spot. He examined his appearance in the mirror—

There was no rhyme or reason to it. Why do dishonest things? With this face, wasn’t it good to start a career on his own?

It was fragrant.

***

Ji Li just wanted to take the career line. He used his sinister insight to pick up unexpected work—

He wanted to be the third male lead in a movie and was ridiculed by his fans.

He wanted to pick up the advertis**ent of a small perfume brand and was stabbed by a rival for having no future prospects.

He wanted to accept a poor travel variety show and his agent team frantically tried to stop him.

As a result, Ji Li became hugely popular in three years! A big explosion! A top traffic!

Everyone: ??? My face hurts. [Lighting a cigarette through the vicissitudes of life.JPG]

Ji Li: Thank you for the invitations. I am just an average worker in the entertainment industry [Puts out the cigarette butt.JPG]

2.5. This book is unfortunate. It has a lot of good refreshing aspects to it that are all dragged down by one big unfortunate common decision in entertainment novels: extensive, overly done (what I've coined) "surprised Pikachu face" syndrome aka too much opness.

Pros:

    • So far no nonsensical variety shows but I'm only at 59
    • Although the ML always manages to get involved, the MC technically isn't filming with the ML all the time which is nice
    • This is a transmigration into a book so the original protagonist is actually really cool and nice to the mc
    • The acting scenes are extremely well written (although it titters between the amount of details that gives the acting life and too much emphasis that it seems kinda cheesy) ; this half a con, bc there's a lot of opness involved when it would've been just nice to have details on the acting scenes without fawning on the MC so much. It's unfortunate bc the acting scenes are so well described. (It makes me remember why I like entertainment stories to begin with - I think everyone is trying to look for a good novel vers. of skip beat)
Cons:

    • The netizens are half ok, half too much there half enough there. Honestly it's whatever I've seen worse lmao
    • The antagonists do seem overly egotistical and dumb. Idk it is the entertainment world but tbh the way they always try to fight the MC and always lose their career is so formulaic; it's boring to read at this point. It's good if u like face slaps. But idk it's kinda really low IQ face slaps only bc why do none of the antagonists consider all the angles?
    • Lastly, it's the surprised Pikachu face syndrome. Everyone is surprised, shocked, amazed at everything the MC does in acting and beauty. The directors, producers, other actors are all pressured by his acting chops. The netizens make him red hot even when he was unknown. Every thing he does is trending. Every face slap is trending. He. Is the star in every show. That's the vibe. It's entertainment I know but give it a little moderation for realism will u please? It would have made it better to read and honestly less boring to read imo. (Honestly I've seen worse and this is comparatively better in certain moments, which is so unfortunate!! If they just toned it down more, this couldve gone from 2 stars to 4 stars for me...)
Idk if I'm gonna finish it right now. I don't think it's bad. It's mostly weighed down by this last con for me. You just have to have a preference to this kind of mindless op entertainment writing. Which is fine. Everyone can have a guilty pleasure. I would have a guilty pleasure for it too if it just dialed it back just a little more in the opness and unnecessary predictable antagonists.

I really enjoyed this novel. As a Movie Star Novel, this author creates phenomenal sub stories that the MC needs to act and I'm not gonna lie, some of them are legit sad.

Now my gripes. Taking into account that I read via RAWs, I did not read MC ever telling the truth about his transmigration to ML so ML does not know that MC is 3 years older than him which is kind of frustrating to me. It also makes the dynamic infantilizing from ML which is not my cup... more>> of tea. Like dude, MC's older than you and able to handle himself in most situations.

There also is the big identity power imbalance which is really common in Danmei which while I don't inherently hate, but the market is oversaturated with it and I kind of want something different. <<less

I enjoy the story. It's good but actually pretty common. Well, I still like it.. It's still a Lil bit fresh enough to pull me in the pit, really. It's about a professional actor crossover the book as a beautiful Canon fodder. He is a trainee actor, bullied by other trainees because of his pretty face, has no acting skills, has a bad aunt who sold him to entertainment companies, and in the end his face gets ruined during a fight at a party. After MC crossover, Combining his unbeatable... more>> face and professional acting skills, he became the strongest rookie actor of his generation.

ML, the unbeatable actor for Ten years in the entertainment industry began to be interested in MC when MC did his first casting movie with his acting skill. ML is a person who is quite cold, polite but feels distant, mature, possessive and a caring bf. MC is a typical person who is quite friendly, knows how to behave, sometimes childish. They together on the middle of story.

The protagonist of the book become mc's bestie. Storyline of the original book is not explained in detail, only part of the outline. So the original protagonist of the book doesn't interfere much in the plot. And we don't know too much how the protagonist step by step success in the story. The story mentions more about MC and his career. And MC trying not to snatch what's rightfully for the protagonist. That is good.

There's no potential third party, no dog-blood, some brainless villains jump in hotplate and black fans get slapped. A face slapping routine novel. If you like it, then this novel is quite good for you. <<less

Rated it 4 stars.

The story is well written. The MC is smart and talented, and since he has been an actor in his original life, he can just easily navigate in the book world. Although, I think his greatest golden finger is the ML. All throughout the story, the ML is there to help the MC. But this doesn't mean that the MC is helpless/ USELESS. On the contrary, he is quite powerful. I like that the MC doesn't fall to any villains' plots, and slaps back everytime.

There are some... more>> parts of the story which I wished were written differently. The author didn't tackle much of the original story in the book world nor did the author expound the protagonist story. It just focused on the MC working as an actor, getting recognition, and find love with the ML.

Overall, looking forward for full translation. Highly recommended read. <<less

It was enjoyable up until the author expanded the story to America, maybe even before that. I love face slapping stories but it got too repetitive - where Ji Li would star in a movie/ advertisement, haters would diss on him (which would take 1 whole chapter) and then Ji Li would slap them in the face with his skills.

Spoiler

I enjoyed this at the beginning and middle part of the novel but once Ji Li won an award and was past being a small-time actor, you would think there would be less haters trying to tear him down. This is also in terms of other actors trying to slander Ji Li - or reporters - the face slapping doesn't stop. This whole cycle continues throughout the whole book even at the very end.

[collapse]

It's the first time where I've ever been exhausted reading - I still finished it because I had already committed and I was interested to see how Ji Li and Qin Yue's romance progressed. Based on how formulaic the face slapping felt - I took off a whole star, it dragged the story down and made everything feel flat compared to the first 80ish chapters.

I do love how much detail the author put in her movie plots - that's what drew me in and kept me hooked. As well as reading Ji Li's interest in acting. Not so much when every single actor was absolutely blown away by Ji Li's acting. It got too Gary Stu for me. There were actually times when I teared up from the movie plots and I enjoyed the tension between Ji Li and Qin Yue. But I felt the confession scene happened too quick. That was something that could've been drawn out more - rather than the face slapping. <<less

Mary Su (Gary Stu) is here!!

I don’t want to be bad with this novel, it is true that the story of transmigration is the basic without surprises (it comes to occupy the body of a cannon and ends up entangled with the villain love, love, love), little or nothing to tell here.

Where I was surprised by this novel is in the small "substories".

... more>> The protagonist is a recognized actor before his death and after transmigrating decides to follow the same path. Of course he is perfect in his work.

Every time he finds a new script, it resonates with the reader and when it’s time to play the role, you tell it to us in the first person, as if we were reading another novel, with other characters and their own story.

It’s these little cuts where you really get immersed in those other stories, wanting to know what happens and interested you in their characters as if you were suddenly reading a completely different book.

These "actions" are little pieces spread out but if you get to see the whole story of the script and I was surprised to realize that I was more attracted to these pieces of story than the overall plot of the novel, that in the end somehow stopped being guided by these little side stories. <<less

This is one of entertainment novel that make me hook with each of MC work. I love how author potray MC acting.

This is one of the rare novel where MC and Og MC have good relationship. They become bestie. Og MC so loveable that I wish he have lot of scene.

The romance slow burn maybe because author want to focus on MC career.

I ended this with a happy satisfied sigh. This was such a great read and hit my craving just right. When I'm in the right mood, I enjoy showbiz themed novels that really go in on the movies/stories the MC/ML produce. I hate tragedy but I like how emotional a good story can get me, and the beauty of the showbiz novel is that the tragedy is short lived and balanced out by the overarching story of the MC and ML to give me sweetness after the momentary pain.

One of... more>> the best showbiz themed novels I've read in some time. <<less

I really tried but I could not get myself to finish this. I already felt like shelving this novel in earlier chapters but continuously kept kept going, trying to ignore the issues I had.

(Mental) Age

The novel starts with a 36 year old MC reincarnating into the body of a man in his early 20s. His exact age is not mentioned but I'm assuming its around my age, so 21-23? First of all, MC does not feel his age. Him being the body's age mentally as well makes... more>> way more sense to me than him actually being in his mid thirties. His career aside, he is far from feeling as mature as the characters supposedly around his age or even younger. Really the only reason I can find for why he was written to be a transmigrator and decades older than the original body's owner is to explain his insane acting skills.

Shaming of original body's owner

Something else very prominent in the earlier chapters, at least to me, was the constant... shaming? of the original body's owner. Not one chapter could go by without pointing out how "dull" and "boring" he was and how much better our MC is in any way, shape or form. It almost felt like the author was trying to say it was good he died and got replaced since our MC was so much more likeable anyways.. That made it feel very mean-spirited and unnecessary to me, especially since it is also established he wasn't a bad person and got mistreated most of his life.

in*est

Something else which made me very uncomfortable and consider stopping my read was the very weird obsession with in*est. Genuinely, wtf was that about. It all started out with the first movie our MC and ML where they played a pair of blood-related brothers and those characters, NOT our MC and his future boo, kept getting excessively shipped by fans. Already very odd but I kept reading and was hoping that would be it. Incorrect, not only is it continuously brought up again whenever that movie is mentioned, the next TV drama they act in forces them into ANOTHER in*est CP. This time Uncle x Nephew, with the uncle even having raised his nephew. Once again a big amount of the fan reactions will focus on the in*est ship. I was honestly surprised I did not see anyone else bring this up cause it caught me by surprise and made me feel sick. Some of the other readers might not have a problem with it, but even fictional in*est is a big no-go for me personally even in contexts like this. And especially since the actual CP does not have anything to do with problematic themes like that made it so much more random.

ML helping out MC with EVERYTHING

At that point I still kept reading, honestly just trying to repress any of the weird in*est shipping continuously mentioned. The last straw for me after all was how the ML was EVERYWHERE. MC could not do any job without him miraculously either acting opposite him, being part of the production or finding out about it and casually stopping by. And since ML is also consistently involved in those jobs, the actual success of them don't even really feel like they're thanks to the MC and due to his hard work. When MC got in trouble he also pretty much every time without fail would find out and solve it for him. I don't have a problem with Gary Sues or anything like this usually, but all of it just felt very overbearing and in your face here :/ Especially since he does not even seem capable outside of acting even though we are told that he is.

Relationship itself

I also could not really like their (developing) relationship because it felt very very superficial up until now as well as very love at first sight -esque which I'm not the biggest fan of. They really weren't even given the chances to develop any feelings so far, despite the amount of interactions feeling forced and overbearing.

Honestly, it might get better and all of these issues I had with the novel were not too bad. However based on what I have seen so far I don't really want to keep going to find out...

first actual review I wrote on here cut me some slack <<less

An enjoyable read of entertainment style novel. I normally really love Rainbow Turtle's translations as they're very good.

This one had some highlights, however a few things detracted from my enjoyment:

    • There were way too much line-by-line netizen reactions; the author wrote a RIDICULOUS amount of filler to beef up wordcount; most of the reactions are identical copy-pasted and add nothing to the story (I actually feel bad that RT had to translate so much crap?)
    • Too many brainless villains; it's like reading a soap opera, the main character can't go anywhere without provoking some form of mindless antis, mindless reporters, mindless actors who say randomly offensive things to the MC where other people can hear them (?) like who actually does that?
        • and then cue the main character slapping them all that night or 2 days later.
        • this plot cycle is recycled ad nauseum x infinity to push the main character to the top (literally the author doesn't have a single other plot point to use)
    • The nationalist brain of the author is a bit too brainwashed; it's constantly peppered in the text; and what a surprise the first korean actor the MC meets internationally is an a**hole
Some good things:

  • The OG!MC of the novel end up being great friends with the MC despite their rocky start
  • The first half of the novel was very cute and fluffy and a lot better written compared to the second half
  • The movies are very detailed, but honestly... I think some of other showbiz novels I've read (and ones translated by RT) have better plots (It wasn't convincing to me how the plot of the gay movie that was filmed could win international awards... but okay)

4 stars is already generous.

MC is the Gary Stu of acting and is often described with nonsensical terms like "pure yet lustful". Everyone is always surprised by his looks, acting skills, and even personality.

There's hardly any conflict in the novel and even the adjustment period from transmigration was nowhere in sight. It was a slog to go through at times especially the filming scenes where most of the movie's plot would be explained. I get that it's done so that we understand what MC is supposed to act but it's... more>> become pointless as the story progresses because MC just breezes through all of them.

The only redeeming factor was the healthy progression of MC & ML's relationship. But even that seemed corny at times too.

Anyways, this is not one of the better c-ent novels. Read only when you're bored and you want to fill in the gap from waiting for other novels. <<less

I like this story enough to MTL it. The MC is a clever, earth to earth character. There is no angst, and the ML is very likable too. Not the type who will toss the MC around, and try to get s$x when the MC doesn't want. A lot of stories have dubious contents imo, this one is not one of them. Both have an healthy relationship.

I like the secondary characters a lot, including the original MC. Oftentimes, the OMC is a bad person who go against the MC. Not... more>> in this story. Even more, I find him almost more likable than the MC. So refreshing!

The not so good now: toouch drama and face slapping. I like the latter usually, but in this story it's way too much. Each time the MC do something, black fans write bad things, always the same, on the web. Then, there is the reversal and the face slapping. Like each time there is a new movie/series or a premiere or a reward is happening/given. Sigh. After 6 or 7 times, it became boring. Apart that, the story is pretty good. The other boring aspect is how strangers are depicted when the MC went to a premiere in another country. It gave me second hand embarrassment for the author. But it's ok, it's not the first Chinese author who is weird when depicting non Chinese people behaviour. <<less

A more engrossing story than expected. The first half of the writing feels a bit immature, but the last half is gold. A lot of public opinion face-slapping and counterattack. It's really weird that black fans keep claiming that MC acting skill is poor, even though he already prove his godly acting skill from day one, and even won acclaims and literal trophy *sweat*. MC luck is against the sky, he can always counterattack all dirty water poured on him. But the best thing about this story is MC &... more>> ML super sweet, tooth ache inducing relationship. MC's transmigration into a book aspect isn't important, just a background story to give MC his godly acting skill. I do have my gripe about this wn, but for the most part, I think this story is reread worthy. <<less

I binged this between my presentation week

if you're contemplating on whether or not it's worth it, my answer is it is :").

Personally I rate this a 5 instead of a 4 purely because it's very easy to digest, the drama always have slapbacks and the MC is basically OP. It has relationship progression and subtle hints throughout. I'd recommend you to read this if you want something relaxing, have fun if you chose to read it.

5/5 stars!!

This is such a fun entertainment circle story. Despite already becoming a film king and retiring, Ji Li is transmigrated into a small 18th tier actor cannon fodder with the same name as him where he goes on to repeat his path to stardom. The works and advertisements Ji Li shoots are all well written and interesting. This author has a good knack for finding interesting stories within a story vs the typical ones written in stories such as this one. I even shed a tear for a couple... more>> of them (but then again I'm an easy crier lol).

The main power couple here is so sweet. I really like their interactions along with the sugar we're given with their actions.

It's basically a well balanced story that I recommend you give a try. :) <<less

I don’t think I’m going to finish. I really enjoyed the beginning of the story but it started dragging after the third acting role. It felt like the scripts were more entertaining than the actual story and the rivals were dispersed too easily.

I did enjoy many parts that focused on how the entertainment circle works and the hidden darkness but even that started feeling like a plot tool to keep the story going. The romance became bland after a while because ML followed the MC too much. I wish he... more>> would do more roles/business activities on his own during the time the MC’s career is progressing. Because it started feeling a bit creepy that he was so hyper focused on him.

Also idk how MC was so blind to his clear affection since he acted so differently with everyone. And, when MC realized he said he only admire the ML and it wasn’t love... sir, you are so willing to be spoiled by him and show grievance (and not to anyone else) but you are not interested in him in that way?? Nope, I can’t do an overly smart character who is “oblivious” to love. It always hurts my brain cells because the math doesn’t add up. 😂

Additionally, the pace of his released work is so much slower than how many roles he has so I was getting frustrated because it felt like the author wanted to hold back all the releases to the end of the story. But it left me frustrated because I wanted to know the response of the public to his work and how it affected his career. I kept waiting and waiting but then the story focused on a new script right after 😑

But I’m only half way through so maybe it got better. Would still recommend this novel. <<less

I’ll be very honest I enjoyed the plots of the movies in this novel way more than the novel itself. Like it is not bad, just a standard show biz novel, fluffy and full of face slaps. But the plot synopsis of Time Lobbyist, marvellous. Chef’s kiss. Like if there was a movie like that I would probably put it on my all time favs list. I hope somebody can write that novel.

One of my favourite entertainment novel. To be honest, everything was really good and satisfying to read. This novel is something relaxing and easy to read mainly because how smooth sailing the progress is. Not saying the MC Ji Li won't face difficulties in his career, just that it won't be much of a problem and gets resolved in a few chapters.

(Spoiler alert ahead❗️❗️ I have warned)

Plot - I love it. The progress of the MC's career is pretty much predicted since he was a movie emperor... more>> in his past life. However, I still liked the fact that his first role was an 'insignificant' role to the general public and peers in his original company, a beggar 🤭. This clearly shows that he has an excellent eye for good characters and scripts. Even after proving his 💯 acting skills, he still took on supporting roles that were considered 'interesting' to him. That is how he is even in his past life and I love how he stayed the same throughout, not letting anyone influence him. The pace was alright, MC slowly rising in the entertainment circle, MC and ML slowly getting to know each other, them realising their feelings and getting together, them working hard for their career and future, and finally a happy ending.

Characters - I have to say, this novel really has one of the best group of characters. Not just the main characters, even the side characters are all so lovable. If I have to give an example, MC's female agent who is also known as his mom fan hahahaha. The way she cares for the MC like he's her cub 🥹. Also, MC's bestfriends Yuan Yifei and Ji Yunqi ahhaha. Ji Yunqi is actually the novel's original MC so I was a little worried that he might be an antagonist or something. I was hoping not when he first appeared and I'm glad that he really was not. It's rare to see how the original novel's MC is not the antagonist tbh... Lastly, I want to say that I really love the ML Qin Yue. I have seen quite a few reviews and comments that have a bad impression on the ML and tbh when reading them, I almost didn't want to start on this novel. But I'm glad I did because although I wouldn't say he's a super duper very green flag, he is definitely a green flag.

Romance - (I shall be continuing why I like the ML here) Firstly, the ML got to know about the MC from an assessment video sent by someone he knows. He saw the MC act and thought that he acted really well and even portrayed the role better than him (pls remember that that was the ML's debut role and MC was a movie emperor before). Afterwards he met the MC on set (pure coincidence) and gained a favourable impression of him. Although he did think highly of the MC, it wasn't as if he would chase after him or do anything at that point. As the plot progresses, the MC also took up some supporting roles in movies/dramas. As you would have expected, the ML also acted in them. He may have joined the crew with the purpose of acting in the same film together but let's be realistic, it's really not a big deal that they are acting together in the same show for multiple times. There are some reviews that say that they find the ML's action not pleasing since he always act together with the MC but have yall thought about it in the other pov? The MC seems pretty happy acting together with the ML don't you think? This was because their so called philosophies and acting beliefs are very well aligned and that was also why they clicked well together. The MC is not even complaining about it so why are you complaining on his behalf :<

Next, about the Long Island Iced Tea movie, I know that Qin Yue 'schemed' a little so that Aldophe would recommend Ji Li to director Cameron but in the end, it was still Ji Li's choice to decide whether he wants that role or not right? Are yall underestimating Ji Li a little too much? He is a movie emperor in his past life. What hasn't he seen and experience before. He is also aware that he empathises with the character alot and may accidentally fall in 'love' with Qin Yue's character in the movie. But when he decides to act in that movie, he knows what he's getting into and is aware of the potential consequences. Also, wasn't it already obvious that before that movie, Ji Li already had a little feelings for Qin Yue? It has been somewhat hinted throughout the novel. In this case, it's not that Qin Yue tricked Ji Li into this movie but Ji Li jumping into it himself.

No matter what you guys think, I think that the ML was very conscientious and patient during his pursuit of the MC. Qin Yue has never presured Ji Li in any way and always took the slow boiling the frog approach. Before they got together, he has always treated Ji Li very well. After they got together, he treated Ji Li even better. Even after they got together, Qin Yue always worried that Ji Li might still be under the movie character's influence and that his 'love' might slowly fade out. This shows how much love he has for Ji Li and how he is actually an insecure person/lover. I hope that you guys can cut him some slack when reading because although you might find his actions a little possesive, in the end it's his first time loving someone and first time getting into a relationship. As much as we love the MC, the ML also loves and treasures the MC alot.

Script for the movies/dramas - Damn I really wasn't expecting the filming part to be this entertaining to me. Usually when I read entertainment novels, the movies filmed during the novel is average at best. But this novel payed attention to the scripts and plot of the movies/dramas. I can say this because I really want to watch the movies/dramas that they filmed during the novel 😭 especially Time Lobbyist.

One minor thing in this novel that I am not very satisfied with is that since the MC is a movie emperor and his acting skills are already 💯, it felt as if he stayed the same throughout. Not that it's bad or anything since this shows that his acting skills is really top notch. It's just that I feel like no matter how good you are at something, there's always something you can learn from others. It would have been nice to see scenes where the MC learns or gets inspired by others :") but no biggie. The overall novel is fantastic and really satisfying to read. I usually don't write such a long ass review but I truly am happy with this novel sooo 🤭 <<less
