I Became the Protagonist of a Reverse Harem Romance Novel with an Obsession with Men

I became the protagonist of a reverse harem romance novel where the main character ends up committing su*cide, but instead of being a female, the protagonist is male.

With the gender reversal, the female protagonist becomes male, and the male protagonists are all turned into females.

So, does that mean it’s a harem story, and isn’t that a good thing?

Well, it would have been if it weren’t for the obsessive and toxic elements.

The Protagonist is an idiot. There's simply no other way to describe him. He's just s*upid.

I'll repeat the basic plot of the first few chapters to explain this:
    Spoiler

so, MC wakes up as sickly heroine in a yandere reverse harem story at its begining, only as a guy instead of a girl. naturally, he panics and tries to run away from the incoming yandere guy, only to get helped by a woman who turns out to be that yandere guy also s*x swapped. In the process the yandere finds it funny and takes a liking to him. Ok. Fine. It makes sense. Problem is after this everything the MC does is s*upid.

yandere keeps on visiting? instead of rejecting her as much as possible he's passive about it.

yandere will get hurt so original MC awakens healing powers, which only happened cause original MC liked yandere, which in turn brings the other yanderes to him? instead of just letting things play out, because ofc MC does not like yandere and thus won't awaken powers, he warns her, which ends with subordinates of yandere getting hurt, because yandere is a lunatic who doesn't think, and since the MC is kind (no matter how much they say they aren't), they awaken the powers anyways to help them.

Finally, when the MC is approached by people asking if they can heal them, which the original MC didn't causing them to say shes a witch causing the second yandere to investigate her, and then fall for her because she is kind? you guessed it, MC heals them, which makes more people ask to be healed, and he heals them, and this grows, which eventually causes the second yandere to come anyway, and when shes sees how kind the MC is...

Fact is, MC doesn't think things through. they do something in the moment that attempts to solve the problem at hand, and because they don't understand cause and effect it always gets worse.

    [collapse]

    Spoiler

Another big problem with this novel is that the MC has no agency. What I mean is they only ever react to things or events around them. Seriously, at no point does the MC actually do something to better themselves, or be proactive in preventing stuff.

    [collapse]

Honestly, the whole novel can described as:
    Spoiler

Event happens/someone appears-> MC tries to solve it in the moment without understanding anything (often like an idiot) -> Surprise! because MC doesn't think things through, the event not only gets worse but causes more events and problems-> repeat

    [collapse]

... It's really, really frustrating reading this. Like those game ads where they play the wrong way.

The only good thing here is the translations quality, its good. like a dumpster fire being brought to you in 4k.

    1 star.

It's a well translated story that is brought down by the main character's complete lack of agency.

The starting premise is that the MC is brought into a Novel where the heroines are psychotically obsessive. If the story is allowed to play out they will cause significant harm to him in a bid to have him to themselves. As far as opening hooks go it's not too bad. There's even a clear and immediate obstacle for the MC to overcome.

It only goes straight down hill from there. The protagonist's "plan" is... more>> to act opposite to how his character did in the novel. That's it, there is no back up plan or alternative solutions he attempts. What's more, when this inevitably fails the MC takes no other actions to distance himself from the heroines. He even goes so far as to start including them in other aspects of his life when clear alternatives are available.

For example: The protagonist needs to go down to a village to heal several villagers. However, being frail, he needs someone to help him walk there. The MC decides not to ask his protective mother, who is the count, or any of the countless servants of his household, but instead asks the heroine to help. The heroine who, according to the novel, will eventually criple him out of jealousy.

If the author wanted to make this story a light hearted romcom I would reccomend not setting up the heroines as the central antagonists. It makes scenes like the one described above idiotic. <<less
