One of the best CN novels I've read. The story is fresh and entertaining because the MC is a villain and acts like one.

From the perspective of MC, he just trying to live his life, as the protagonist always targetting him because he is the villain so he needs to defeat the protagonist, either directly kill them or make them lost their protagonist halo. He uses his brain to defeat the protagonist and to get the girls.

I just finished this novel. Noice's work on the 200 or so first chapters is solid and the rest of the 755 chapters are available as MTL. I got pretty hooked, for the last few days I've hardly done anything else than read this.

The MC rises from a minor rich second generation villain to a powerful cultivator, though the cultivation part only takes about the last third of the novel and feels a bit rushed. At first he relies on his money, system and brains: even after he becomes a... more>> powerful martial artist, he usually hides his abilities. But in that last third, the system's role diminishes considerably and he relies more on the cultivation cheats he has obtained from various protagonists.

It's one of the best large harem novels I've read, at least half of the 40-50 female leads and supporting characters the MC conquers are fairly memorable. Mostly, of course, the ones introduced in the first half of the novel. In the latter half of the novel, the MC often cheats by using system cheats to make them fall for him at first sight, which expedites the conquest and makes the process and the heroine much less memorable. Large harem is very difficult to write satisfyingly, the result is usually a large cast of mediocre, forgettable characters, but this novel does a pretty decent job.

The most outstanding part of the novel is, in my opinion, the interesting system of villains, protagonists, female leads and supporting characters. Each of them has their own "halo, " which basically represents their luck, which the MC's system quantifies and which the MC aims to devour by obstructing the original "plot" of each protagonist, preventing them from showing off, messing with their heads, stealing the heroines etc. The protagonist luck thing is nothing new, but this system in its entirety is far more intricate and fleshed out than usually.

The MC is pretty likable: he's ruthless and scheming enough to pass for a villain, but doesn't mess with the innocent and cares for his women and family. He's forced into the role of a villain by whatever force reincarnated him, as his villain halo naturally attracts protagonists, and if he were to let them grow, they would eventually kill him. He does enjoy the process of seducing female leads and destroying protagonists, but most of the protagonists aren't really any better than him personality-wise, and like I said, he takes good care of his women, so apart from one exception, I didn't really feel sorry for his victims.

The ending is rushed, but most of the plotlines are neatly tied up, so it's not particularly unsatisfying. The MC never leaves his home planet, the novel ends when he becomes an invincible existence there; his cheats allow him and his women to cultivate rapidly despite the relatively thin spiritual qi, so he can continue developing while being a big fish in a small pond.

I'd say it's about 4 or 4.5 stars out of 5. It could even be worth full 5 stars, if the last third of the story wasn't rushed. Even if just the ending/epilogue was one or two chapters longer, it would be a firm 4.5 stars. <<less

If anyone is concerned about what reviewer Larriken said about the father and son let me put your concerns to rest

Spoiler

The son is a protagonist and the MC would naturally have to go against them but what Larriken doesn't mention is that all the protagonists in this novel are h**ny idiots. All they do is to get p*ssy and nothing else. The son they feel bad about actually has one of the most insidious protagonist halos of them all. It actually allows the protagonist to r*pe any heroine and it would force the heroine to forgive him and actually fall in love with him immediately after. MC made him a eunuch so you can imagine how many heroines he would have gotten just from his r*pe power. Does that sound like someone you should let live? Not only that, the protagonist actually tried to kill his ex fiance just because she slept with another man (she got tricked into thinking she slept with the MC by the MC as a reverse to her plan to use the MC to break her engagement) so he gave her 3 days to kill herself. This wasn't the only time he thought about killing a heroine for "betraying" him either. The father is actually not that bad if he didn't spoil his s*upid son so he started to try to plot against the mc's family business. As for the mom, she actually never loved the father of the protagonist and only married for the benefits so she never had loyalty to the father or son. What I don't like about this is the man she married isn't a master martial artist. He doesn't really have a high cultivate base and is only rich so he can't provide anything really to her ancient sect and yet we're supposed to believe she married for benefits? Ladies from other sects and even her protagonist son think money isn't important and it's better to marry someone who is strong so why did she marry this loser? It's obvious this was just a story setting with nothing going for it except to put a green hat on the protagonist's dad.

Plus they divorce a little while before they're killed off. Their whole family story is a mess but killing them off was the only way to continue the plot with the MC and the mother still getting together without involving anyone else who could interfere.

[collapse]

The real problem with this novel is the same thing that is wrong with some of these system type novels: the MC becomes a s*ave to the system. Seriously, all they care about is the system and nothing more but it's especially clear in these villain type novels and this one is no exception. Throughout the whole novel, it never feels like the MC gives a f*ck about the heroines, his parents, friends or anything besides defeating the protagonists and getting rewards. Even with all that, it's still an okay read to kill time with and to see how he gets the heroines but even that gets boring because of his op abilities. It's fun but has it's brutal moments that will turn some off but they are very few and far between. <<less

This is gold, as an enjoyable experience.

But there is a requisite, you must be familiar with the usual harem cliche in CN. One thing that this novel really does better than the other villain genre novel is making justice for the protagonist that the MC face. The author understands well how CN protagonists usually act and it really felt like you read CN protagonists every time a new protagonist appears on the MC path. They have cheats of their own and their plot to follow.

The MC also acts like a... more>> genuinely sinister and insidious villain to the point that you would feel bad for some characters because of how MC does things. He does get really OP at the end, but it was worth it, as the journey to get there is really satisfying.

One thing to mind is that the MC's job is mostly stealing harem members so his harem is really massive to the point that I lost count of how many women the MC slept with and they weren't one-off characters either, they would sometimes appear again either to advance the plot or complete their own plot.

Edit: completed the series. The ending was beautifully done even though it was a very rushed one. The story itself still has much value and potential to be continued, don't know why the author decided to just end it right there. A novel that could be described as a peak of wish fulfillment, it takes you to blissfully dream. Great job author, but I hope that you would make the pacing even for the entire series next time <<less

It's quite a good no-brainer novel. First thing though, don't get too caught up on some of the logic of the story. In some sense, the world is like a dating sim game so it does make sense that some things he does is just to increase the likability of the char and the girl would just like you no matter what you do. Also, some MCs sounds more like villains over MCs and his scoldings of some of the MCs stereotypes was also quite funny especially if you recognise... more>> it.

And the MC does netori... basically grab girls from all the MCs, some in ways where you might be uncomfortable.

By the end, his ability gets a bit over OP and lucky at the same time but his means is still something to see.

(Though there's also some parts that the author is trying to end the story soon.)

Not the best ending but the closure was sufficient, though you would still prefer something better nonetheless.

I find the overall story structure to my liking that I have a raw epub of it that I made myself with the bookmarks when the girls fell into the dark hole. LOL <<less
