However, Touka was the only person with the lowest rank ―― he was an E-rank hero.

His status is overwhelmingly low in comparison to his classmates. Moreover, Touka’s peculiar skill is supposed to be an absolute failure 【Abnormal State Skill】and therefore he was abandoned and thrown away into disposal ruins…

Thus the former mob-character and abandoned hero, will absolutely become the strongest as he advances and strike back.

I read the manga and thought that there wasn't enough world building and details to support the abilities and environment. Then I look at the chapter list for the novel and think that the adaptation was glossing over all the world building it thought it didn't have time. Finally I actually read it and think there is somehow both too many details and too little world building.... more>>

This becomes unbearable when they arrive at the witch's house and the only thing we get is confirmation the story still isn't going anywhere and a romantic subplot that stands out like sore thumb, and not in the good way. Over the span of 20-ish chapters.

I feel like the story has all the components for a good anti-hero isekai story but the way the story is written and the development for the main character is mediocre and kinda cringy. I tried reading further into the novel thinking that it maybe the story would get better, but I was wrong.

The novel is good so far, but there are a few things that irk me. For one, it's the fact that it doesn't get on with it. Often times I find the author lingering on something for way too damn long. Like, I know what's going on, you don't need to continue to repeat and reiterate the situation for 10 more paragraphs.

Also, some of the characters are very frustrating. They don't stand up for themselves when they're being treated like tr*sh. They definitely have the strength to stand up for... more>> themselves, but they act super meek and pathetic.

Overall though I do like the story and the premise of it, and overall my review is still 4/5. <<less

The story is Mainstream, the plot is mainstream, and I can't see what's unique about this novel. The other villain characters are made so bad and bad that it triggers the reader to want to read this novel continuously to see the villains beat by the MC. And I am one of those people. If you like the novel about the MC being betrayed by his friend (idk) because he is considered weak then surprising them after suddenly getting the power of the OP is a suitable story for it.... more>> I don't know what will happen in the future because I'm still reading until volume 2 but I can see things like that will happen.

- Story

As I said. This is a mainstream story that you can find everywhere, about MC being thrown away because it is considered weak then becomes OP and takes revenge. Looks like it doesn't matter right? The problem is below

- Character Development

Gross. I gave -1 star because of this. MC classmates are really disgusting. Honestly, I hate stories with characters that are made so bad for the sake of plot. Believe me, you will want to see his classmates tortured because of how disgusting they are. They are even worse than Hajime's classmates.

- World Building

I'm still reading 2 volumes so I don't fully understand about this world. But an explanation of the countries of the world has begun to appear towards the end of volume 2, at least this is good enough for a novel of this class. Conflicts between countries and what is in their countries have also been raised little by little. This is still volume 2 so let's look forward to volume 3 <<less

I love the story, but the author doesn't properly explain the leveling system in the story.

Spoiler

At the start, Touka is stated to have stats that are average for a normal person in that world. All of his stats are increased over a thousand fold after leveling up to over 1, 000. So by that logic, once his level is in the thousands, he should a thousand times stronger than regular people of that world, making him stronger than most, if not every other person in that world. But for some reason, he had to come up with a strategy to kill Civit Gartland with his 【Abnormal State Skill】Why didn't he just grab Civit by the neck and snap it? It can't be that the stats don't mean anything. There are rare times where his physical stats shine. Like when he and Seras are traveling and she gets tired due to the long trek, but he still feels perfectly fine. He even mentally attributes it to his high stats. It's like the author wants him to be overpowered, but, at the same time, doesn't want him to be.

[collapse]

I hope this gets explained in more detail, because it feels like a splinter in my brain. <<less

Not a real 5 but I think the rating should be higher than it is

TL;DR: I think the novel would have been better received if the pacing was a bit faster and the author wasn't trying to milk it as much as possible

Whole class gets isekai'd to a new world by a shitty goddess, MC gets supposed tr*sh skill, he is banished to a dungeon where no one that went escaped. MC survives killing a really OP boss, gets out and meets the story' heroine... Sound familiar?

People care about the... more>> negative so here goes:

The author thinks his readers are s*upid? He makes the MC reiterate the same stuff a couple of times as if it wasn't already understood

Five chapters could be summarized in 1 and you would still have the same amount of content.

All villains are really bland, and the main one makes you mad not because of how evil, but due to how dumb and pitiful she is.

The author decided to downgrade the heroine to a damsell in distress for no apparent reason, though it lasted for just 5 chapters.

Characters are either good, or the worst I've ever seen.

That said, I think the MC is one of the best ones in this kind of troupe. He is smart, and doesn't just power throught everything. He is on a revenge quest yet doesn't indiscriminately kill, and didn't need anyone to tell him that. He also knows that he needs people to achieve his mission

I have to say this... FINALLY ANOTHER F*ING WN THAT DOESN'T MAKE THE MC HAVE A HAREM, and has all the girls thirsting on him for no reason.

While the WN doesn't focus around romance, I am so glad that it was decided from the beginning who the partner of the MC would be.

With the exception of some characters, I like how level-headed everyone is. They aren't made dumb so that the MC appears a genius, and are actually useful <<less

Pretty good story so far. Falls into the typical "revenge isekai" category, but the writing style and story are still interesting enough to not seem mediocre. Plus I love the fact that the MC isn't affected by that weird Japanese aversion to killing people who try to kill him, and is instead quite smart about dealing with such threats.

Quite enjoyable. Dark without being too bleak and empty. I'm not sure why it is tagged as a Harem. The MC only has one girl who is falling for him, and it isn't too prominent. Lots of good revenge and brutal villains. The goddess is an awesome villain. Funny and evil as hell. A lot of solid supporting characters. I'm not quite as interested in the secondary narrative, but it's still pretty interesting.

This is one hell of a goddamn awesome novel. The MC is just awesome and so are the characters around him that is his companions. And the best thing for me is the fight scenes of the MC, its so detailed and filled with wits and high level thinking, planning and executions............

IGNORE all negative comment which is totally BIAS toward this novel!

read it yourself & rate it yourself dont let subjectively bullsh*t review mislead you from reading this novel

Pros:

... more>> -MC is not NAIVE unlike any generic LN out there & he truly use his brain

-No plot armor so far for villain unlike any other LN where the villain manage to escape just because MC naivety or s*upidity

-Heroine is so likeable not some random bullsh*t abusive tsundere like Chitoge/Shitoge

Cons:

-some Side character/his classmate is not importance & a bit annoying but it has potential to be better in story so far <<less

I fully agree with what DragonLordADN has said. This novel doesn't deserve anything below 4 star. The cunningness of MC is really great which you don't find in JP novels. It is just like Overgeared in the way you have to be patient before judging. There is a motive behind every action of MC which is explained later. So I would like to conclude don't judge it early, keep reading and will see it's charm.

i do like the story, MC and romance but the plot is horrible, so many cheap stake with over use plot convenient, lot of as*hole character, there are no great motive behind them, just strange up as*hole because they are just for reading satisfaction, those thing can be cut short so the plot can be more progressive like Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu, it drags too long and reader will lost interested in this WN, hope the LN better as 200+ chapters thing get interesting again

I came from the manga and I was curious about what would happen after the current release of chapter 16 as of 3/5/2021. I skipped to the relevant chapter, 77, because that's what I was interested in and I have to say that I agree with the two most recent critical reviews.

The author weighs the story down with too many tedious details and repetitious information.

For example:

Spoiler

The context to the below quote is Touka and Seras were facing off against five Black Dragon Knights who ride on Dragons. One of them was the fabled "Strongest of Humanity, " named Civit and Touka used his abilities on them when they turned their back on him to leave after he closed the distance while having a conversation with Civit. So one of the Knights tried to move and killed himself and then:

Suddenly, the body of the bandaged man began emitting an intense light.

Immediate after that...

Bashuuu!

A thick beam of light shot up towards the sky as if it's trying to pierce through the skies.

However, the thick beam of light disappeared in an instant.

Seras looks puzzled as she muttered.

[What in the world... is that just now?]

I spoke out my guess.

[It's probably a signal.]

[S- Signal?]

For example, it may be possibly be a signal that's telling someone about his death.

It may also be a signal that shows the position of the enemy who killed him.

Underneath those bandages...

There may be an automatically-triggered seal that was drawn underneath them?

Just like that time when we found that black egg wrapped in a cloth inside the ruins...

A signal that could indicate the position of the enemy at the time of his death.

Is it originally used so that Civit would come running towards them when they died?

My thoughts: Notice how the explanation of what the light coming out of the Knight might be is repeated three times in the conversation. Two would be okay because Seras questions Touka and he explains. The third time is unnecessary

[collapse]

There's a lot of repetition in conversation, internal monologue, or the author showing or telling the reader something and then going over it again in dialogue or internal monologue elsewhere. Initially, I just wanted to see this scene play out and it took seven chapters to get to the end because MC and a villain were having a conversation about stuff that was irrelevant, in my opinion. I understood where it was going, but the author chose to repeat several things in the conversation that made it tedious and unnecessarily long. Then after that, MC took forever just to kill them. I know his power takes a while to kill people, but the author decides to have Touka internal monologue about everything, and then stop to have a conversation with Seras about some stuff, and then one more time revisit the dying Knights. A lot of that could've been summed up in a few sentences.

I've found this is often a problem with Light Novels and Web Novels in general, authors tend to repeat unnecessary details, and translators and editors don't seem to feel comfortable taking the liberty to format the translation to remove the unnecessary details.

Here's another example, not far away in the story from the first one I just gave:

Spoiler

The context is that Touka is still waiting on Civit to die from poison and is afraid to approach Civit because he is still kneeling and Touka is amazed that it's taking him this long to die and he's able to talk and move around while under paralysis. The light beacon mentioned in the previous example brought about 20 dragon knights to them now and Touka was preparing some skill that utilized his pet slime. The pet slime was preparing the skill after the Five Black Knights mentioned in the previous example turned away from him. So, the skill finally activates:

—Rustle—

[Pii!]

Pigimaru's signal.

I can see that there were multiple "roots" around my eyes.

The true identity of this "root" is that this is a body part of Pigimaru.

Alright...

It's already been connected.

There were two problems regarding this ability.

One of them is that it takes time to get into this state.

The second one is that it's sucking up an absurd amount of my MP while it's activated.

The part where the "root" has encroached over my face would also raise the vigilance of my enemy who had noticed the changes.

Therefore, I couldn't use this during my conversation with Civit.

I could see that my MP is visibly decreasing.

That's why it would be impossible for me to activate it before I had that conversation with him.

Worst of all, it may be possible that my MP would run out during my conversation with Civit and suddenly faint.

In short, it can be said that this "power" that Pigimaru obtained through the Monster Enhancer is something for really short-term battles.

My thoughts: Again, notice how the author repeats himself 2-3 times with the explanation that the skill drains Touka's MP and is a short-term skill as if you couldn't pick up on that the first time it was mentioned. Then it's repeated again in the next chapter just before Touka starts to fight the new Dragon Knights.

[collapse]

This type of tedious unnecessary repetition makes the scenes long and makes you want to start skimming to get to the point. That's not good.

Then there's the problem of fights being prolonged when Touka could have ended it, but he's not using all of his skills. For example:

Spoiler

Back to the situation with Civit and the Five Dragon Knights. Touka paralyzes them and poisons them, but he also has sleep. He spends a chapter or two worried about approaching Civit because he still feels Civit is dangerous, but he could've put him to sleep and then together with Seras slit their throats and been done with it by the time the calvary of Dragon Knights arrived in response to the light beacon. Instead, he waited on the slime merger skill to activate while he stood at a distance watching Civit die because "a cornered rat might develop some unique skill at the last moment" according to Touka's internal logic. When the calvary arrives Civit is able to tell them not to get too close to Touka and to kill him from a distance. It's apparent at this point that the author just wanted to show off Touka and the slime pet's merger skill.

[collapse]

I could also add the usual cliche problem of the MC being OP but doesn't think he's OP so he drags out fights by doing unnecessary things. See the last spoiler example. MC is high-level, over 1700, and has high-level stats, but acts like he's still the weakest thing often times when he meets a relatively strong opponent. Also, his supposed intelligent way of doing things, most people would think up like talking someone into letting their guard down so he could approach them, close the distance so his skills can be utilized. Anyone who has that skill would come up with that plan of attack in any given situation because closing the distance is the only want to utilize the skill, especially if an enemy is further away from you. What will be interesting, if the author is creative enough, is putting Touka in a situation where talking to a person won't work and he has to risk utilizing his other abilities to close the distance and use his skills.

At this point, I don't feel the story is bad, I just feel these problems can turn people off. <<less

MC has an op skill that forces a status effect on the enemy, eg. Paralyze, poison and sleep. If he hits enemies with his skill, they are a goner.

However he also have a clear weaknesses, his over reliance on his skill, his skill range, the time and action he takes to cast his skill.

If you are thinking this is going to be a arifureta-like story you couldn't be more wrong, this is a story where this guy tries to overcome his limits by creating a team to kill the goddess together. I like how the MC is not too op to the point where the team would not have any part to play. <<less

Overall very solid novel. Everything Arifureta wanted to be but couldn't. The initial premise is the same, however, the MC in this story is infinitely more likable and well-rounded. Instead of rebuilding his personality from the ground up, he reverts back to his original disposition, so he's definitely more mentally stable than the MC from Arifureta.

this story is not a harem, so far. Only one romantic interest and the rest are just normal interactions with women. This may change but I cannot see that happening anytime soon. Regarding his OP abilities, all I can say is that the restrictions more than compensate for it.

Other characters show phenomenal growth with the small snippets we get from their perspectives. Definitely give this a try beyond the initial 30-40 chapters. <<less

There's really a biggest flaw in this novel for me. It's about the enemy always depicted as evil as possible and MC is always right. It's really silly because it's very rare in this world to be black and white, but this novel push it to the extreme. For example: there is heroic party that start of as righteous although psycho (because they're brainwashed), but in the end it turned out that they're egoistic and I feel it's really forced.

This story is slow and cliche at first but it only gets better as it goes. The main character IS a revenge protagonist and may seem edgy at first but as he progresses through the story he is definitely not an edgy character. He's observant, thoughtful, clever, and calculating. So if you like an MC with a brain this is a good one. The side characters have differing levels of depth and the early villains are a bit one dimensional but it all builds into the later arcs. Yes the... more>> writing is a bit verbose and overly descriptive sometimes but this also makes character insights all the more in depth and really show you peoples thoughts and feelings which I really enjoy.
