In a certain League of Legends (LOL) match, a streamer well-known for infuriating people, was providing commentary and live streaming.

Streamer: This support, so tr*sh.

Streamer: If this jungler was my teammate, I’d already be idling at the fountain, playing piano for him.

Streamer: I suggest this player go back and practice last-hitting properly.

Audience: Stop talking crap! If you’re so good, why don’t you do it?

Streamer: Your daddy here can actually do it.

Audience: Yeah, sure. If you’re that good, I’ll chop my head off and let you kick it around.

A few months later, the veteran LPL team TTC announced their new mid-laner. A boy with flamboyant blue hair appeared in front of the audience. His Zed gameplay was so astonishing that whoever he faced ended up dead. Female fans teetered on the edge of betrayal, tempted to switch their loyalties.

During a post-match MVP interview, everyone held their breath, eagerly watching this talented newcomer.

The young man took the microphone, smiled, and asked, “To the water friend with the StarTV username ‘Suburb King 101,’ my team’s address is on the official website, when will you be mailing your head over?”

After one regular-season game, the staff went backstage to fetch the team for an interview, only to stumble upon TTC’s new mid-laner and their jungler standing in a corner.

TTC’s star jungler, Road, was pressing the team’s new mid-laner, Soft, against the wall. Leaning in close, he asked in a low voice: “You know what to say during the interview, right?”

The fiery mid-laner, who had cemented his tr*sh-talker reputation in his very first game, was currently blushing furiously.

“I know. I won’t tr*sh-talk… I swear I won’t.”

THIS IS FREAKING GOOD!!

It's an e-sports story, so we'll have the most issues dealing with this industry like new comer, Injuries, team conflicts, world championship and all. The pace of the story is good and it's funny too. Mainly the fans of MC is hilarious, I almost got stomach ache from laughing at their comments given to MC. ML is the god of his lane and probably fall in love at first sight with MC. MC have sad past but it didn't shown much in the plot. ML is extremely... more>> dotting and he is wolf fattening the rabbit when it comes to MC. HAHAHA.

It's slow burn romance. ML is MC's idol. The one who showed him a little light in darkest period of his life. ML is like MC's lighthouse during his struggles. It's a sweet story in my opinion. The e-sport game chapters are all so exciting, while reading I felt I was watching a real match and was so excited. <<less

I don't play LoL but I do play online games, so even though I don't get some of the terms I can still generally understand what's happening. Tiny Salt Translations did a really good job with making everything easy to understand, and the dialogue flows very nicely and casually. The plot is written similarly to a sports anime, which can be a bit diappointing when you actually analyze it. ... more>>
Spoiler

Master and HT were hyped up from the start, but in the end... they're pretty sh*t compared to TTC? I guess it could be attributed to TTC growing, but it's such a lowkey thing that it feels like TTC suddenly became overly powerful. The latter parts seem sort of like the author was venting their own frustration, but I can't confirm since I'm not into the competitive LoL scene.

[collapse]
However, the writing is still emotionally engaging so I only go "hey, wait a minute..." after I've read the chapter and am taking a break. In fact, it's so good that I couldn't stop reading until I finished the entire thing.

Soft/JR/MC is a troll of justice who's also a fanboy of Road/LB/ML. I've been reading a lot of CN danmei recently where the snarky shou scorns the doting gong, so it's very refreshing to see a "kid with a crush" type MC who from start to finish eagerly fanboys over ML, and ML who goes from teasing senior to affectionate pursuer to the kind of doting boyfriend who revenge kills. The side CP is also pretty fun. I'm actually glad they didn't get together in the main story, because their pre-ship CP is funny and adds to the humorous fluffy-ness of the main story. The side story for them is a bit more serious, which can be a bit of a mood whiplash and might be a turn off for people who are coming in for just fluff.

The people in the world are also interesting. The side characters don't just exist for the plot, but they don't show up a lot anyway because the novel is too short for that. The hints of the side characters' lives, like the bits of interaction with LB's parents, Savior's journey integrating to a CN team, Squid guy (??) 's growth from annoyance to comic relief, etc, are all interesting but a bit unfulfilling and abrupt. Even the mob NPCs were generally fun- JR's anti/dad fans are, as a commenter put it, "a world of tsunderes", who are just as snarky and funny as JR and provide our MC with someone to trade barbs with.

All in all, a very enjoyable read for me, and I'll probably look for more of this author's works. (as well as the TLer's stuff) <<less

For a reader who always skips every e-sport novel (because I don't understand T_T), I give this 10 out of 5 stars!

Omg, I'm so in love! My friend always recommends me a lot of e-sport novels, and I always skip them because I don't really have a clue about e-sport. Then, she told me this which translator gives an excellent explanation for the game part.

When I start reading Chapter one... I can't stop. I really like this, no, I'm so in love T_T

The plot is good (again, even though I... more>> don't understand how the e-sport work, I think, now I can understand it, thanks to this novel!)

It's total fluff! And Lil bit hurt/comfort.

overall I really love all the characters on the team.

The MC was a strong character. While the ML, ho ho.. a hidden wolf. hahaha

Also Xiao Bai, oh! He is my favorite besides the main CP.

I so happy that the author creates an extra with his CP. I'm so in love!

and for the translator, thank you for picked up this story. I think I will start looking for another e-sport novel because of this <3

Thank you for the hard work and the explanation! <3 <3 <<less

TLDR: Author amazing. Translator amazing. MC? Amazing. Highly recommend. Very rereadable.

Let's talk about the gaming aspect first. I am someone who can be considered a casual fan of the LoL Esports scene. I used to follow the NA LCS, LCK, and LPL almost religiously back in 2015-2016, and nowadays I still take the time out to watch major competitions. If I wanted to be really technical, there would be quite a few things to nitpick. For example, the meta in League is constantly changing, and the author designed her own... more>> 'meta' instead of adhering completely to competitive history. There are some rather arguable points on how the meta isn't realistic, but I still think the author made a reasonable choice. Also, some of the gameplay sections are a tad unrealistic, but it definitely falls within the realm of creative liberties. After all, some things need to be exaggerated to keep the readers hooked. For the most part, the author follows the game mechanics really well. As someone who understands League and its champions, I could almost visualize some of the game segments through her descriptions. You can tell that the author herself plays the game or at least knows an extensive amount about it. The commentators for some of the competitive games were a little bit... exaggerated. Some of the things that they say are probably considered unprofessional, but I think I find it kind of endearing so it's fine.

Now for the MC and ML. I love the MC. So much. I think I just have a soft spot for angry foul-mouthed boys who's prickly like a porcupine but really really soft to the person he loves (the ML). ngl I immediately got art-baited when I saw the cover of this novel because I really liked the MC's character design. The blue hair, the small cute face, and the height difference between him and the ML. So good *chef's kisses*. And when I found out that this tiny cute human (who I think is actually like 5'9 and not actually that tiny) speaks so aggressively and gives absolutely 0 f*cks about it. Boys, this is what we call gap moe. As for the ML, I found his personality less distinctive than the MC's, but I still quite like him. I think one of the moments I remember the most from the story was when he sat down the MC and was like, I'm not as good as you think I am. Due to how they met, the MC has always pretty much idolized the ML. And in the beginning, I also believed in this reserved and calm exterior. Like he really seemed to have his sh*t together, y'know? But then you find about more about his past, and how he started, how he got to where he is today, and you realize that the MC and ML really were once pretty similar. Also this might kinda be a spoiler so:
Spoiler

My heart h u r t s for the ML's hand injury. I feel like every esports novel I read someone's gotta be injured. It's seriously heartwrenching every time I think about how short the peak period of an athlete, esports or not, is. The fact that they have to retire so young, and it's almost always unwillingly, just ahhhhhh. And it's not just the ML, other veteran players in this novel too just make me :' (

[collapse]

The relationship between them is!! Very good!!! I actually am such a fan of the pacing of how they got together. It wasn't too fast, but it didn't feel too slow either. There would be a good amount of cute scenes often enough that I didn't feel like going crazy. But it wouldn't be overdoing it either. And the way that they fell for each other was realistic too and I absolutely loved reading the MC's PoV and how he was so Confused^tm for so much of it. It's so goddamn cute. And everything's really fluffy. Like MC and ML both had it rough in their earlier years, but the novel took place after they got through that rough patch. And the MC has come to terms with his tragic backstory^tm as well, and the ML already went through the whole family feud of being well off but running off to play esports. Even the whole coming-out drama wasn't nearly as much as it could have been. Love the ML's mom by the way.

This is important! The translation! Is! f*cking God-tiered! The translator doesn't play League and it's just so f*cking unbelievable because they translated the matches so well??? Like the sheer f*cking amount of Googling and Wikia-ing they probably had to do. f*cking god bless. Like I already mentioned above that I could visualize the games from the author's descriptions, but there would have been no way to do it had the translators not done as amazing of a job as they did. Every skill name. All the gaming lingo. The item names. Like f*cking how the heck. And even aside from the gaming, everything read so fluently. Like you know that they didn't MTL and then edited. They read it line by line and then reinterpreted it in English. Like this is probably one of the best translations I've read, lots of love to the translation team.

Other misc things: Side characters very cute. All the teammates are easy to remember and have distinctive personalities. Some core characters from other teams play important parts too (shoutout to Savior, an actual baby. And XIU, the poor old man.) There's a side couple that doesn't realllyyyy appear in the main story (but the hints are all there, trust me). But the extras have a side story featuring them! Also, MC's fans are absolutely hilarious. I too now have become a dad fan of the MC. I don't know how it happened but now I have a blue-haired son that I will flame but adore at the same time. It just how it be sometimes.

Note about the xenophobia. Although the author did try to center the villainization around the HT team, a lot of it still seeped out to the LCK in general, especially with how some of the Korean commentators/anchors/gaming staff were depicted. Even though I don't know the ins and outs of the LCK scene in real life, in the many many games I've watched with LCK teams against teams from other regions, behaviors like the ones shown in the novel were non-existent. It did make a bit uncomfortable reading it, especially because I'm quite a fan of a few LCK teams. The whole thing with how other regions import a lot of Korean players is a little too real. In the NA LCS, you can find Korean player names everywhere when you look at the team rosters. But I doubt, or at least I hope, that the players in the LCK look down on the Korean players in other regions like how HT did in the novel. Esports is an industry and being a professional player is a career, there's nothing to be ridiculed in recruiting players from other regions or for going to other regions that are providing them with a better contract. However, despite all of that. I understand that the author is trying to fill in the role of a "villain" with this HT team. And it made for an exciting final arc with a very satisfactory resolution. I don't necessarily believe that the author has some inherent prejudice against Korea, because she did portray the audience members and other players from the LCK as being uncomfortable with HT's actions. I think she tried her best to make it clear that HT's actions do not reflect that of LCK as a whole. <<less

Ive read a few novels with cold love interests and they always make it seem like its a one sided conversation but the author managed to make him seem cold but also showed that he is interested. I also really liked how its realistic for as although he is accomplished and smart the love interest doesn't know everything as often in some novels the love interest is like a god that know everything. For some reason it really pisses me of when the love interest is portrayed like that while... more>> the main character is portrayed as foolish to make him 'cute' idk. Anyways its a good read. <<less

I love this novel soooooo much omfg, you should definitely try it out ! However if u cannot handle slowburn and xenophobia then stop turn around and dont read this cuz this novel has alot of slowburn and xenophobia included in it.... which although I am annoyed about I still can't stop loving this book also actually am loving the slowburn rn. Anyway you should check it out! Just do be mindful of that while you are reading this.

It isn't that romance focused at the first place, so if you... more>> want alot of lovey dovey moments (which although this novel has but not that much cuz they didn't even kiss for so long) you should be aware of that but the lovey dovey scenes increased alot by ch 100+

Again the xenophobia is real in this fic tho sooo if that makes you uncomfortable then you should not read it only to give bad ratings when you had been warned in the first place because you had already been warned by the reviews. if you know you can't handle it but still wanna read it then just skip the parts that include those paragraphs.... cuz it's truly a good book

I love the MC he's such a troll lol and god lu he's so cool. I could go on forward abt them but the dynamic is like *chef's kiss*

I won't say more just go read it ~

However dont read it in the first place and rate it bad when it could have been avoided in the first place if you had just read the warning. And honestly I'm just saying that cuz I love this novel even with its faults and it hurts to see it being rated rly low just cuz of one of the warnings listed above <<less

This is a very cute novel. It is not drama focused so it's easy and light hearted to read, kind of like a slice of life. So, I totally recommend it! |ω・) و ̑̑༉ The game they play on is League of Legends. It was a really good idea since the story didn't need to really focus on explaining the champions, and even for someone like me who doesnn't play it, I didn't have any troube inderstanding it. Using a real game also made it feel more realistic. *⸜ (•ᴗ•)... more>> ⸝* Jiang Rong is always toxic and pissed, which really contrasts with his short and delicate figure. Like imagine a small kindergartener being triggered by almost anything LOL. ꉂꉂ◟ (˃᷄ꇴ˂᷅ ૂ๑) ༡л̵ʱªʱª✧ He is really cute and his personality is very strrong and dynamic. However, I will say that, he seemed more OP while he streamed than later on, since Lu BoYuan basically carried every single match they won. He never really plays with a strategy so yeah..I wish the author could let him shine more. ATM he really does seem kinda useless, so please carry more rongrong gege~ (ʃƪ ˘ ³˘)

Also, do I need to mention about how LBY just keeps showing up at the worst times (for JR) ! XD Every single time ISTG. Also, it's so cute whenever Jian Rong wants to swear, he always stops and behaves so obediently if LBY is next to him. (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ LBY gives me mix hearted feelings. He's cold yet affectionate, always spoiling JR-BUT ! ! The books always describes how fit and much broader than JR but that does not really match with the novel cover ! Anyways, it's really nice how he never denies liking JR. Their fans ship them too lmao. I remember one time an anti-fan was shaming JR for being shipped with LBY, and none of his fans defended him, but instead brought more evidence for the CP out. ଘ (੭ˊ꒳ˋ) ੭✧ Yeah, you know what, I think Jian Rou's fans are the true MVP (๑•̀ㅂ•́) و✧ <<less

As you can probably tell from the other reviews, it's quite. A cute read, though it might be a bit difficult for people who don't play LoL.

I don't play it, though I do play other MOBA games similar to it, and I had a confusing time understanding the champions, since I only really know a few like Teemo, (I only know the names in Chinese), but I'm not familiar at all with their skills or whatever you call them in English. So this might be more suitable for players... more>> of LoL to read.

The romance is quite cute, the whole thing is light. Despite not understanding some parts of it, it's still overall very enjoyable, so I think you'd enjoy it just as long as you know the basic rules of LoL.

I'd recommend this to honestly just anyone who'd enjoy a good e-sport romance. Sorry for the bad English and have a nice day. <<less

I enjoyed the novel. It was cute, fluffy, and funny. However there were a few elements that made the story "meeeh?" for me.

For example, the ending was a bit rushed. There were a few events in the story unsolved: closure or development with the MC and ML's family when they came out, the world championship, and ML's injury.

The novel definitely could have gone on longer and developed the interpersonal relationships more rather than just focus on the game and even then the games were alright.

This story, although enjoyable and cute,... more>> isn't as well written compared to some other LOL danmei novels.

However, this did have a good balance of love and game elements which is why I rated this a 5 star. Many e'sports novels focus on one or the either and they don't balance it out well. Plus, as the story is fiction, some real life elements are alright, you know for connecting with the characters and such, but if you make it exactly like real life then ill be bored to death. I don't want to be reading paragraph after paragraph about game practices lol, gove me some spice.

Therefore, this novel did a good job on balancing the love and game elements. The author also had a good sense of humor too. I loved the bickering with fans and the comedic background characters. But ngl, I lowkey became annoyed with light bulb xiaobai shining around being a c*ck block for the leads lmao.

That aside, the novel is good. Very cute and fluffy but rushed and meh in the latter half of the story.

4/5

I love everything about this! Since I don't watch esports or play LoL (bad eyesight and hand coordination 😭) I was worried I wouldn't like this. Well as much as the game and vernacular is used in this the explanations or what's going on, interactions between players, the audience reactions, and game descriptions are actually well explained. I love the development of the relationship so far and find the to be the best I've read in a while! And the humor!! I've laughed so many times and so hard in... more>> this too!! RongRong and his water friends are hilarious 😂😂😂 I can't recommend this enough!! <<less

I agree with reviewer earlydiaries review to a certain extent and would like to expand on it.

The story in itself is okay. It's not really all that creative and it's main aspect is the streaming content which honestly was really boring, I gave it a try since it's teacher Jiang's work but it's quite disappointing. It's sort of cute, but really just tragically bland. Especially the characters. I read it quite a while back so details may not be accurate.

MC was okay, he was cute and knew what he wanted.... more>> I would consider him pretty mature.

I actually quite like ML character, he had a very pleasant personality, it was pretty good. Side characters were boring, can't really remember anyone.

As for game mechanics.. As a LoL player myself- tragically boring. If you guys like the esports aspect, I highly recommend glory. It's a masterpiece in this genre, teacher Long never fails to deliver.

And as for the pe*ophilia and racism..

pe*ophilia.. Not really.

There's nothing really all that gross. The entire reason why pe*ophilia is morally wrong is because it's inherently predatory and the point of it is to groom young unsuspecting minds (especially those before abstract reasoning stages- preoperational stages, 10-12 years old.) Those who enjoy young flesh primarily enjoy the manipulation and power they gain when they control these young kids, developing them into who they want them to be. That power play is what turns on pe*ophiles. This entire concept has been blown way out of proportion and calling LBY a pe*ophile makes me cry. He's just a guy in love goddamn it. Remember, if MC was 22 and ML was 25 no one would say anything but that's actually worse as 25 is when the brain completely develops, not 18. Not 20. So in reality MC and ML maturity isn't that far off, moreover, age doesn't decide how fast one matures. I have my prefrontal cortex develop extremely fast and at a very young age, while my father is still as mature as a 16 year old boy. Remember what truly defines pe*ophilia is the mindset you have when dating someone younger. What do you 'want' from them? LBY simply wants to give JR love and affection.

As for the romance itself though- it's pretty bland. I liked the umbrella and ktv scene but that's that. They just, I don't even know why they like each other, they've never had any sort of deep connection or anything at all. It just happened and we just have to accept.

as for the racism, my god.

Again, I wouldn't consider the author racist. We can see that she didn't isolate or degrade any Koreans because they were Koreans but because of their character- they just happened to be Korean.

The arc itself though, was uncessarily rubbish. What even was that? Instead of amazing technical gameplay we got a cliche dogblood. It was so bad I had to skim through it. I'm so disappointed. Teacher Jiang, what is this! <<less

Man do I love Soft's interation with his anti dad fans! They are so funny and so wholesome at the same time. The dad fans bully Soft like heck but get angry when others bully him. They really treated him like their son, it's so cute.

Love Soft and Road's interaction as well. I love how soft and obedient he is with Road and how Road let Soft go crazy and supports him all the way through.

AHHHHHH SCREAMING SHAKING GIGGLING KICKING MY FEET OHHUEHWHDHW

OK STARTING THHIS OFF WITH I heard so many good things about this danmei since the very start of my danmei journey (esp considering my first non mainstream one was glory!! which is similar to ICDI!!!) BUT I AVOIDED IT CUS I READ ONE BAD REVIEW RHAT MADE IT SOUND LIKE THIS NOVEL PATRONIZED THE SHOU SO MUCH BUT I GUARANTEE YOU THAT IS NOT THE CASE AT ALL AHHHHH

i figured no novel written by the author of wait for me after school... more>> would be bad but I still was hesitant to pick this up- now I only have one question for myself: WHY DIDNT I READ THIS SOONER?????

gods. you have NO CLUE im talking to the point where this made me so happy that I was walking around school with a smile on my face and probably scaring a couple people with that!! WHAT?!?!?

no because there are soooo many things I want to talk about. FIRSTLY. MY FAVORITE PART ANT THIS NOVEL. THE HUMOR. wfmas was funny but it was so heartbreaking I forgot about all the funny parts but THIS. LADS, THIS IS PEAK. PEAK HUMOR I WAS LAUGHING AND GIGGLING AND GENUINELY JUST HAVING A GREAT TIME READING IT. never before do I think a novel has made me so genuinely happy like this.

THE SIDE CAST. oh boy the side cast. I LOVED THEM ALL?!?!? big reason why I love jiang zi bei’s writing: not only is the side cast incredible, but... SIDE SHIPS!!! SIDE COUPLES!!!!! now, I don’t wanna spoil but... JUST KNOW THEYRE SO CUTE!!! AND UGHHH ALL THE CHARACTERS WERE ALL SO FUNNY AND HAD SUCH FUNNY INTERACTIONS!!! I have so many screenshots of just the funniest moments from this novel!!!!

and, of course, THE COUPLE. starting this off with there is no weird possessive behavior or patronizing of the shou or some weird dynamic where it’s obvious the shou is powerless/way less powerful than the gong. WHICH I LOVE?!?!? ofc, that’s expected from jiang zi bei, BUT ANYWAY. the point is that they’re so incredibly strong and cute and handsome and funny in their own ways, and I feel like that balanced scale never really tipped, even when they got together. WHICH IS THE BEST???

and boy, they’re so so cute. SO SO SO CUTE. from their starting dynamic to their ending dynamic I found myself giggling and kicking my feet, blushing and smiling, OHHHH they’re so sweet. I just love love love their dynamic SO MUCH!!!

IM SO UPSET I DIDNT PICK THIS UP EARLIER. it’s genuinely SO GOOD, do NOT let someone tell you otherwise. READ IT NOW!!!! <<less

family dinner or JR going to his parent's grave

since it was told multiple time and all, but im satisfied

JR and R are both really cute, I squinted a bit at the age gap ? Especially since cn bl novels LOVES barely out of high school MC with in-thei-thirties-or-nearly-there ML but here they have just a 2-3 years gaps at most, and JR isnt an overtly naive and UwU type of MC so it balances out

Their relationship is somewhat basic ngl but hey why change something that works ? And I like how much of a greemlin JR is.... unless its his idol in front of him lmfao

The rest of the team are nice too, they get their time in the limelight respectively. Also, there's a second couple ! But only in the extract I didnt read because ngl I dont care for second couple, just putting that out there for the people that do

and for the one controversial arc of this novel.... idk about the korean racism. imho (really just my impression, read it if you really want to forge your own opinion) saying this arc wasnt influenced by the pretty bad international relationship between China and Korea (while funnily enough the only japan team we see are cuties patooties not kidding lmfao) would be a lie, and I do think the author goes overboard a bit too much wih it. That being said, the author also mention HT as an exception and how even their fans turn away from them at the end + Savior who is just adorable (JR pls... stop bullying him....), there's also mention of his experience with racism when he plays so... its a bit more nuanced than 'koreans bad : the arc' I feel.

Anyway, I didnt feel like it was too long or too short, I didnt know much about LOL but the translators/the author does a really good job to work around it. The games aren't really all that important in the grand scheme of things, they are rather short and not described in details unless necessary, anyway, I recommend reading ! <<less

It's a nice novel, similar to GLORY and All-Round Mid-Laner. Though I did prefer those two novels better, this one's also ok.

It's a little bland. I ticked a star off cuz I think the rating's too high- I would give it a 4.1 or 4.2 personally, but this doesn't mean it's a bad story. I'm ignorant about LoL but I was still able to enjoy the gaming aspects, and I'm not gay but the romance wasn't annoying, and there's a good balance between both.

I'm South Korean, so I backed out... more>> before the supposed racist part cuz I'm not mentally strong enough to shrug off my country getting dissed... Or so I tried. Somehow I ended up reading through the arc accidentally. I didn't notice it enough for it to get on my nerves; either I'm blunt and unpatriotic, or the xenophobia is too subtle, or I've read too many xenophobic Chinese novels to notice now. Likely all three are true. Part of me actually feels proud that Korea gets mentioned so much here, aw... you know that hate from your opponent in games equal compliments, right? Lmao.

Anyway, it's not a bad novel to pass time with, especially if you're into BL. And if you're not the very sensitive type, the little bits of country clashes won't bother you much either. East Asian countries have fought for centuries, anyway, it's no big deal. Just try not to fixate on the negatives. And thank you, previous reviewers, for the heads up. <<less

Love it! I will reread it again. Both the main couple and side couple are cute, funny and a joy to read. No crazy angst. No big misunderstanding. Translation quality is good. A lot of comedy that make you rolling on the floor laughing out loud.

As a League player myself, this plotline smacks in the technical side. And, it really is so sickeningly sweet without being graphic with the romance scenes. It was super satisfying and I pulled 2 all-nighters because I literally could not put this book down.
