In a certain League of Legends (LOL) match, a streamer well-known for infuriating people, was providing commentary and live streaming.

Streamer: This support, so tr*sh.

Streamer: If this jungler was my teammate, I’d already be idling at the fountain, playing piano for him.

Streamer: I suggest this player go back and practice last-hitting properly.

Audience: Stop talking crap! If you’re so good, why don’t you do it?

Streamer: Your daddy here can actually do it.

Audience: Yeah, sure. If you’re that good, I’ll chop my head off and let you kick it around.

A few months later, the veteran LPL team TTC announced their new mid-laner. A boy with flamboyant blue hair appeared in front of the audience. His Zed gameplay was so astonishing that whoever he faced ended up dead. Female fans teetered on the edge of betrayal, tempted to switch their loyalties.

During a post-match MVP interview, everyone held their breath, eagerly watching this talented newcomer.

The young man took the microphone, smiled, and asked, “To the water friend with the StarTV username ‘Suburb King 101,’ my team’s address is on the official website, when will you be mailing your head over?”

After one regular-season game, the staff went backstage to fetch the team for an interview, only to stumble upon TTC’s new mid-laner and their jungler standing in a corner.

TTC’s star jungler, Road, was pressing the team’s new mid-laner, Soft, against the wall. Leaning in close, he asked in a low voice: “You know what to say during the interview, right?”

The fiery mid-laner, who had cemented his tr*sh-talker reputation in his very first game, was currently blushing furiously.

“I know. I won’t tr*sh-talk… I swear I won’t.”

This was such an incredibly enjoyable read. I've been holding back reading this because of the shounen ai tag since I would very much love to read more explicit s*x lol but the humor and story made up for it. The implied smexy times was fine too.

I'm not much into e-sports but I've found that I actually enjoy reading about it as long as the story is good.

Loved the MC and ML here, and all the side characters

The main couple is great. I really liked the MC and the ML, and this novel also portrays a lot of non-s*xual intimacy that many Danmei neglect--to clarify, too often two love interests only hug, kiss, and have s*x. In this novel, the MC and ML express their affection through many different gestures and words and I appreciated that a lot.

The reason I rate it 4/5 is because I do agree that the treatment of Korean characters made me uncomfortable. Insults thrown at fellow Chinese players were based on their... more>> personality or skill, while most of the insults the MC threw at the Koreans referred to how their language sounded ugly and, well, it boiled down to discriminating them for being Korean. I forget the exact wording but imagine something akin to Americans calling Chinese "ching chong", but the equivalent of that towards the Korean language.

Even in the case of one of the side-characters from the "good" faction (the "bad" faction being the big Korean team because they were the main antagonists), named Savior, from the moment he was introduced and throughout the rest of the novel he was just made fun of for being Korean and being bad at Chinese. So many xenophobic jabs are aimed his way when he's not even one of the "bad guys". <<less

This book was okay.

The MC has a nasty mouth that can insult others. Although the author tries to give us the impression, telling that it's kind of cute, I couldn't help but be disappointed. He talks rudely even to the people who cares about him, who is friendly to him, and it turns out that's how he shows his love. When it comes to the ML he becomes a red tomato instantly.

The ML is the "handsome, hot, super good at what he does", the typical guy in every novel. I... more>> can't even understand why he loves the MC.

This novel was so good at the beginning, but later it was very draggy, repeating over and over. It is also late romance, but later there were some smut, not much, but there was.

I mean, I cannot understand why this book has so many good ratings while it is average. Anyway, recommended to read if you love e-sports genre. <<less

Seeing so many 5 stars review had me questioning my standards.

Honestly, this is definitely not my favorite e-sports novel. I kept picking it up and then dropping it. There isn’t really a specific reason, I wasn’t even that bothered by the xenophobia, I just got bored. I think this author’s work in particular doesn’t suit my tastes. I’ve read several other works, which had high ratings as well, and the common factor is that I find them tedious to read. I struggle to plough through them. I eventually finished them,... more>> except for this one, but instead of excitement or enjoyment, I feel relieved that I finally finished it. They are works I wouldn’t reread. I have no idea why, maybe it’s the pacing or something. I don’t know if it’s just me but while I would find it entertaining in the beginning, it would gradually die off. I do hope to enjoy it like the rest of the readers but it’s weird how my tastes work. <<less

This is easily one of my favourite stories I've read, and I usually don't enjoy eSport novels that much.

The best part for me was probably the characters and their relationships with each other. Most of the characters don't have a backstory and you don't learn much about them, but it won't stop you from feeling deeply connected to them all. Even the "antagonist/bad" characters are still extremely lovable (Speaking about our horse Doufufu) I managed to binge this story all in 3 days and even lost sleep due to not... more>> being able to put it down.

The pacing is amazing, and the romance between the two main characters is good as well. It doesn't drag the romance too much, nor does it drag the eSport plot; it's extremely well balanced. Not to mention how hilarious the story was - I think I spent more time laughing than I did anything else.

If I had to nitpick and point out any flaws then the only thing that I would say is that the small conflict plots were resolved too quickly and never brought up again, so sometimes I would say that most of those side plots were unnecessary to add, but it was still very fun to read so I don't mind them at all.

Although, fair warning, if you can't handle extreme secondhand embarrassment then I wouldn't advise this story because the main character will bring you physical pain from his embarrassing acts. I still love him either way and the humour in the story makes it easy to deal with those things.

I really loved this story and would recommend it to anyone if they are looking for a light hearted read. <<less

Oh wow this was the first time I read an esports novel and the excitement was almost the same as if you're watching the show live. And I say this because I also watch the live shows of LOL hahaha

This is the 2nd novel I read from the author. It was more focused on streaming and esports but you'd also get some sweet and lovely chapters mostly in the latter parts of the novel. But you'd mostly laugh your ass out from Juan Rong's antics. The excitement was real, like... more>> what the other readers may have felt. But romance wise, it was a bit lacking as compared to the couple in the author's other novel, GHFOD.

I looove sweet interactions between CPs so my ranking so far if you're going to read this author's novels:

    1. Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating
    1. I Can Do It
Next stop: PUBG Online Romance of the Century

Big kudos to Tiny Salt Translations for their excellent TL quality!! I think I wouldn't have enjoyed as much as I did if it weren't for the hardwork they put into bringing this quality TL to us. Cheers! <<less

Just reread it, still love it. This novel actually helped convince me to download league lmao (this and Arcane mostly)

The game is still kinda boring though unless you have friends to play with imo

Soft is precious, I love his character. There's just a ton of humour and happiness from beginning to end of the novel. (Only the side story made me cry for a bit but that felt so well written too)

no need to know anything about league to read this btw, I had no clue at first... more>> and managed fine. Knowing the basic goal of MOBA games does help a bit but you'll learn that anyways while reading ^^ <<less

This is my first review, I cannot not review. I've finished this book already, reread twice, and I really love this novel.

Spoiler

Though the protagonists were OP, they weren't OP to the point where it gets boring.

[collapse]

I loved the story overall, bcs it's quite easygoing so when you want to read gaming novels without experience, this could be an example...

Spoiler

And my fav part was the side ship, I love Pine's and Xiao Bai's little story. And the extra on the book was funny.

[collapse]

I wanna point out that the author actually made their teammates, rivals, have presence not just some mere passerby and the protagonists have friends.

I removed one star bcs
Spoiler

Well, even if one doesn't play LOL or one at least played/experience these 5v5 type of games, it's quite unbelievable for me of, (how 'strong' the protags are) esp since the author mentioned that their competitors were quite good too.

[collapse]

There's not much angst, mostly focuses on their matches and a right amount of romance (well for me). If you're looking for a fluffy, comedic, yet thrilling (not the horror type of thrill) read — this one's for you!

Spoiler

I think the author has some feud with K0×ea gamer (s).

A very cute story. It had quite a few gaming scenes and terms, but the translator did a great job explaining everything. I love the interaction between the players and the fans; it's surprisingly heartwarming. I also love the helpless manager - he has such a hard job 🤣

The one I think would be a bit off putting if the story wasn't so cute and well translated was the idolizing nature of the relationship. While they're becoming closer in terms of gaming strength, and the author makes a point of... more>> showing how the gaming world is one relentless wave of stars after another - new ones coming in and overtaking the old, it is still a strange relationship when one party is so awed they immediately behave differently in front of the other (and their parents). It works in this story and comes off super cute / funny, but it wouldn't be nearly as sweet in real life.

There's even a bit of face-slapping towards the end, though I have a sneaking suspicion it's slightly toned down nationalism. But the author makes a point of showing its not a problem with all Koreans, just one particularly obnoxious team. <<less

Honestly, I had high expectations for this story, after all this story maintained a rating of 4.9 and 4.8 for quite a long time in novel update [In fact this story survived with that rating long before Mist ended (Mist was another story with high rating in novel update) ] before eventually dropped to a rating of 4.7...

But after I finished reading the whole story, I was really disappointed.

I mean it's not like I've never read an E-Sport/slice of life novel before... But this story really disappointed because they have... more>> high rating which 4, 9 - 4, 7 when the story itself doesn't carry anything in it.

Spoiler

Like, there are many things in the story that can be used as discussions for plot conflicts, such as injuries to E-Sport players, ML with his parents when he joining E-Sport, ML mother who was addicted to cigarettes, the accident that make MC parents died, MC grandfather who was sick, and many more.

[collapse]
But none of these things are discussed in depth and clearly in the story... all these topics were only discussed a little before finally being thrown behind.

Last, about the Xenophobia... Does this story really contain Xenophobia??? The answer is yes and no... I mean people who really playing LOL, will definitely realize the fact that Koreans player have a little bit anti habit + feel superior in the game was true, but of course it's not as bad as the story describes.

And the fact is not only in E-Sports, Korea is one of the countries in Asia whose public figures (artists, singers, idols) usually target foreign markets of other countries such as China and Japan for their active promotions, which sometimes causes love and hate reactions from their Korean fans, which almost same like the reaction that this story describes or maybe even worst... <<less

Probably one of my comfort novels, and I find it funny that people are crying xenophobia over something that League (the game the novel is all about) is notorious for. If you've ever played a game in the Asian server, you know how toxic KR players can be. Not that I'm excusing PH and CN players, but that's just how it is.

Anyway, on to the review:

CHARACTERS: 5/5. All of them are written great. Even players from other teams are given enough reason to make readers understand that, "huh, that's why... more>> they're pros". No one's a throwaway. I wonder how much of a headache it must have been to keep up with all of them, maybe that's why the author just chose random names for some of them lmao.

PLOT: 5/5. It's the perfect mix of life and esports. Made me start playing again after 8 years. Also, the romance? You'll have no choice but to ask, "Universe, when?". Nothing dragged, not even those chapters with a lot of socmed comments coz they were funny and entertaining.

EXPERIENCE: 5/5. As I said, this is my comfort novel. No going back. <<less

I usually don't read e-sport novels; I have nothing against e-sport; it's just that I'm bad at it and it's hard to understand what's going on during games, but this novel is an exception. I was intrigued by the synopsis, so I gave it a shot, and I regret nothing. The novel is well written, the plot is interesting but without much drama, and the pace is neither fast nor slow. I personally think the most charismatic part of this novel is its characters; not only MC and ML but... more>> also side characters are lovable, and their interactions are hilarious. The banter between MC and his fans is something. I also loved that both MC and ML were well-rounded characters with interesting backgrounds. MC's life was hard, but despite that, this novel itself is light reading. This novel made me laugh out loud a lot of times. I also liked that despite not being good at e-sports and my lack of knowledge in LoL, I still could understand what was going on, and reading match descriptions was interesting. The translator gave us useful notes that helped me a lot, so separate thanks to the translator. It was my pleasure to read this novel, and I would recommend it to other readers too. <<less

I absolutely loved this novel. I finished it in 2 days. I usually don't read esports novels but this one just drew me in. If you like semi OP protagonist, this ones for you.
Spoiler

Although the MC does lose a couple of times, most of the time they are OP without being overly OP like a Gary Stue.

[collapse]

The interactions between the MC and the ML are so cute. MC is kind of hot tempered and argumentative but when it comes to the ML he's so soft and shy.

The MC's interactions with his fanbase is absolutely hilarious. Legit, I laughed so many times reading this, at least once every chapter.

There's no angst between the main CP or misunderstandings.

I almost didn't read the novel because I read some reviews that called it xenophobic, but I decided to give it a try anyways, and they were absolutely wrong. There's just the typical my county is better than yours arguments. And while I admit there is an as*hole Korean team the MC clarifies that only this team is extremely mean and that all the other Korean teams are cool.

A solid 4 out of 5.

PROS:

The couple’s interactions is what kept me reading till the end. Just be warned it is a slow burn... and I really mean a slow burn. I also appreciate that the side characters are not two dimensional. Xia Bai for example was hilarious and probably my favorite character overall aside from the main CP. He offer quit a bit of comedy relief.

The ML was a bit boring at first, you really don’t get much from him other than the occasional chuckles for like the first... more>> 50 chapters... but thankfully he does get better! It’s quit endeavoring how he spoils the MC rotten.

The MC is a huge fan of ML. Although he is very feisty, he becomes meek the moment he is in front of ML. This tend to put him in embarrassing situations where he dig his own grave.

CONS:

Lack of strong opponents. The MC seem to be able to overcome his competitor relatively easily... even despite being his first year competing professionally.

The biggest disappointment was the final arc where the team face off the Korean team in the finals. Their opponent (aka, name Master) was hype up to be this strong player where even MC lost to him before, so I was expecting this ‘Master’ to at-least put up a good fight. But nope, he also turn out to be just a petty mediocre nobody that is just salty because he lost to ML previously.

Also, in the final arc, you can tell very well that the Arthur has a bias towards his own home country. Although it is normal for teams from different countries to have some hostility towards each other, the authors way of approaching this was just not very tasteful... The author clearly painted the Chinese team to be the good guys and the Korean team to be pure evil. In reality, it is not so black and white.. <<less

I completed this novel in two days without rest and it was worth it. This is something different. There is something exceptional about this novel which hooks you. So damn good!

I am not lying when I say this, I have been only ever hooked by three novels (including this). The other two are 'Heaven Official's Blessing' and 'Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation' and now this one too.

This novel is just so good that words are not enough. My heart feels empty now that I just finished the last chapter. The feeling's... more>> like I've lost a good friend.

This was truly a masterpiece. It was different. It was special. It was addicting.

In short- 'This was one of the best books I've ever read.' Don't wait for anything else and just go for it. I promise that it wouldn't disappoint you. <<less

I binge read this in 2 days, slept less than a normal amount of time, and was motivated to do all my weekend chores within just an hour so I could get back to this book. I was completely addicted.

I loved the dynamic between the couple as well as the team's relationship. Soft and his fans are adorable and it felt like a breath of fresh air to have a troll, smack-talking main character whose fans show love by insulting him back.

The extras were also adorable 🥰.

I almost want to... more>> go back and reread it even though I just finished... Hopefully I can find something else this amazing!

edit to add: I have now read this story 4 times in 3 years. It has set a really, really high standard for me. <<less

This is one of my favs, in all of the novels that I have ever read, I have only read 3 and this is one of them.

I love the characters very much! I personally like savior. He's just too cute!

I, of course also love jian rong and his dad fan, haha! And he always listen to his boyfie which is sooo cute. I love reading the interactions between him and his fans. They literally have a love and hate relationship, haha! Overall this novel is a must read

I really liked this one to start out and was expecting growth out of the MC and a great relationship, sadly I was disappointed. Add in the xenophobic undertones and I would say this is the authors worst one that I've read. On a positive note, there is actually a girl gamer who is good at gaming and is in the pro scene.

The last half of the book is so focused on LoL that I was bored and skipped a lot. I am a gamer but not LoL and not... more>> really an esport fan, so to have most of the last half was meh (I do get how some would appreciate it though) their relationship could probably be condensed into 15 chapters.

I also agree with another review, the MC rebellious character was kind of cute to begin with but got annoying as he didn't try to improve himself at all. Really not sure what the ML fell in love with either, just 1 minute he wants to take care of a jr and the next he is in love
Spoiler

I honestly thought it was more of love at first sight and was surprised when ML admits it wasn't until they shared a bed that he realized.

[collapse]

The translators and editors did a good job explaining game elements so its very LoL noob friendly, the author was even honest when they couldn't find confirmation if something could be done in competitions and put it as notes at the end of certain chapters, kudos to that.

My biggest complaint with the novel though is the xenophobia towards Korea. I know that China and SK have a strained relationship but this type of story just continues the viscous cycle. <<less
