3 years ago, I woke up as a game character–as a side character, at that.『Heroic Legends of Arhan』. The Protagonist was also a Reincarnator like me, so we decided to stick together and see the story through properly. But something was wrong… He said he didn’t know anything about the game, but this…

“It’s fine, isn’t it? This world is just a game after all.”

『The Player has been killed. You have failed the attempt.』

… This f*cker lost?

I returned to the past; to 3 years ago.

Now’s my chance. I must kill the player.

I Killed the Academy Player is an engaging novel that initially starts slow and convoluted but ultimately delivers a well-rounded and consistent story that exceeds expectations. The fast-paced development, unique plot, and enjoyable content make it stand out in the game-based genre, providing a refreshing read for fans of the theme.

Despite not being the most creative, it features likeable characters and solid character-writing, with exceptional action scenes that can be easily visualized. The story offers a good dose of comedy, romance, and pacing, ensuring that readers are entertained throughout.

The main... more>> character's growth and planning are refreshing aspects of the novel, and character interactions are mostly reasonable, even if some events happen faster than expected. Though some aspects may feel bog standard, and managing multiple character relationships can be a challenge, the novel remains engaging and entertaining.

Be prepared to push through the initial chapters to appreciate the full extent of the story, as the early parts may not do it justice. With its combination of unique elements and familiar tropes, "Academy Transmigration" is a worthy addition to any transmigration or regression fans' collection, offering a satisfying and enjoyable reading experience. <<less

As far as Academy Transmigration novels go, this one is pretty basic. It suffers from the same syndrome as 'Abandoned by my childhood friend, I became a war hero' where the early chapters are pretty bad. Albeit on a much smaller scale. This is due to the convoluted plot which just seems to be a way for the author to make MC both a regressor, AND a transmigrator. I don't really have much to say. There are certain places where the story drags a bit and the mini-arc's payoff aren't... more>> very good but they're kinda just nitpicks. They miraculously manage to make a goody-2-shoes MC who is realistic, likable, doesn't seem ret*rded. (I'm looking at you Ian Percus). Usually a flaw such as bad early chapters would be enough to drive it down to a 4 star but it's saved by having one of the best main (?) heroine in KR novels.

Marie is best girl. Marie is love, Marie is life. Amen <<less

DrVanilla makes a key point - you need to get past the first 4 or so chapters - I gave up on this novel twice before getting through it. The novel is NOT a weird BL thing. The tagline says it all - "I killed the player.... He was one hell of a f*cker." The key is that the MC kills that f*cker pretty quickly, and then the plot develops from that point to a well executed regressor in a fantasy world novel - in fact, its in my... more>> top 5 of 50+ Korean web novels I am reading at any given time.

The MC is a rare example of one who is reasonable and identifiable. He progresses without becoming instantly OP. He doesn't turn beta, isn't afraid of women, and doesn't have overly unnecessary baggage from his past life. The FMCs are all unique and have their own qualities, but none of them turn yandere, tsundere, or exhibit other disturbing character traits (at least to date).

As to di2857295's comments, there is a bit of denseness (admittedly frustrating), but the MC clearly gets Marie (best girl) likes him. However, I do have to admit that this is no Ending Maker - you really need a focused romance pair to match that novel, which very few web novels do - this is more of a weak harem with the potential for one winning FMC. <<less

This is fantastic lol. I came here first from stumbling across the webcomic adaptation, and enjoyed what few chapters were out. When I saw it had 180+ chapters translated, I dove in, and wow am I glad I did so.

I adore the characters and the plot. There's a bunch of humor, but doesn't let it get in the way of major plot (though it does get in the way of the heroines sometimes lol). There were many times when I barked out a genuine laugh, and even more when I... more>> giggled maniacally to myself. The MC is a joy, and the sheer BS he gets into is super enjoyable.

The plot is great, and I really appreciate the Korean take on a fantasy fusion with Gaelic (Irish? sorry, not sure on proper terminology) mythology. But while the plot is enjoyable, with the MC strategizing and plotting his way through, it's the characters themselves that shine. Oh, because the story summary is unhelpful, it's worth noting that when he kills the Player, he gets recruited to be a 'sub-player', which basically has none of the major benefits. So he can't learn by applying skill points, can't use the crafting menu, etc. He basically just gets a visual representation of when he completes quests (he can't even really use his status screen, and all his stat points are randomized/applied evenly). This means he can't learn uber skills, can't be a 'Player', as in min-maxing and such. He has to learn everything the REAL way, the hard way.

And that is the reason the MC is so great. He has a bunch of foreknowledge, but that's of course tainted by the Butterfly Effect, but he has to work supremely hard for personal gains, and to save people and recruit them. So, not only is he hardworking, he's legitimately a wonderful Hero type character. He's legitimately a really good guy, though some might argue that his selflessness is very selfish (pretty much Kant philosophy if I remember my old classes correctly lol). But in any case, he wants a happy ending for all the good people (and it makes him happy to do so).

Just to be clear though, he's not a saint, and his body count is quite high when necessary lol. Also, he's zany as all hell, and loves making references to villains that no one in this entire world would get, such as Immortan Lork (mad max), Pain (naruto), and Joker (batman). Frankly I'm sure all his teachers think he's insane lol.

As for the heroines, I freaking adore them. They're all very varied, albeit more towards the author's clear fetish: yanderes. That being said, it's VERY light on the spectrum. To be honest, it's so light, that it might just well be other archetypes, but all of them are slightly crazy. Like one girl (granddaughter of the Sword Emperor), she's an illegitimate child, and frankly had a pretty terrible childhood. But as a result, she's slightly twisted and finds adultery romantic and hot. (Psychologically, she admits that because if she were to deny adultery, she'd deny her own birth). SO like when her older (half) sister get fake-engaged to the MC, she IMMEDIATELY starts having delusions about seducing and stealing him away (because it's romantic to her!)

I won't spoil the harem, but it is frankly super enjoyable, and while the MC is kinda dense, he's not black-hole-osmium dense that some people are. He may not know that half the girls around him are crazy (and crazy in love with him), but when they flat out state it, and kiss him, he doesn't play it off or be in denial. (Not that he has any clue how to resolve a bevy of yandere honeys after him lmao)

One final thing I want to mention though, is something from like chapter 1-4, not sure. But he engraves 3 geass onto himself, that are basically limitations or oaths or whatever you want to call them, but they hinder him and in return give him power. One of the 3 is the most crucial from a character building aspect, and it's "I will not ignore the misfortunes of good people". Basically, he lashes out against the gamer mentality of 'they're just NPCs, so it's ok if I kill them or do whatever I want'. He legitimately is a hero, and it's wonderful. Far too many stories these days want to say that being a good guy is boring or bad or inherently selfish or something, and it's really nice to have an ACTUAL heroic main character who wants to help people without being mentally broken or something (like Shirou from Fate Stay Night).

Anyway, I highly recommend this story. One of the best KR novels I've read, with a wonderful harem full of great characters, and tons of wholesome romance, action, humor. And best of all, it has all those things WITHOUT having an idiot protagonist or any super negative character traits that you just have to live with. His denseness isn't that bad (I mean, it is annoying at times, but that's because we see things from the girls side really often), but it never gets to the point of 'oh she kissed me, uhhh she must have tripped! and yeah, she said she loves me.... must be like a brother!" or other absolutely terrible tropes.

Plus, due to the precepts I mentioned before, I'm 99% sure it'll end with a true harem ending. Current count as of 183 is like 7-10 people in the harem lol, depending on how you count multiple personalities, and whether or not sisters will both be in (TWO sets of half-sisters, no less lol). <<less

A good novel overall, one of the better ones with the academy/fantasy setting from Korea.

However.

I am honestly tired of MC being a pushover with the love interests. It honestly doesn't work like that with women. Or maybe it works because the love interests all have a screw lose lmao.

... more>> Otherwise, however, the setting is good, the premise is good, the characters are, well, good or at least original. It's just that MC is one dense MF and the things author thinks work on women don't work IRL.

Btw, the TL site has another good novel, with similar failings but even better (Demon Limited Hunter). I recommend that one more. <<less

"I Killed the Player of the Academy" starts off a bit slow and confusing, but ultimately delivers an entertaining story with likable characters. The novel falls into the regression/transmigration genre, with the protagonist Korin sent back in time after the world's destruction.

Korin aims to save the world and everyone he couldn't protect the first time around. The action scenes are highly praised, combining well with the romantic arcs for each of the heroines. Comedy elements add levity to the story at times.

The first 80 chapters focus on Korin growing stronger... more>> while helping various female characters. Romance and harem play a big role, so those adverse to harem content may want to avoid this one. However, the relationships are handled lightly rather than feeling forced.

The protagonist Korin is described as very heroic and positive, focused on saving others, which provides a refreshing change from cynical anti-heroes. He acts maturely rather than rashly, adding appeal. The supporting cast, while not as fleshed out, complements him well.

The worldbuilding sounds interesting, though not hugely complex. Where the story shines is the action, romance, and pacing - keeping things moving along enjoyably. The author balances multiple plot threads adeptly.

In summary, "I Killed the Player of the Academy" starts off confusing but develops into an entertaining heroic fantasy. Readers who don't mind harem and gaming transmigration themes will likely find it an appealing, satisfying read, with highlight on the action scenes and protagonist. Those looking for really intricate worldbuilding may be disappointed. Overall, its a worthwhile novel with fun moments. <<less

It is the usual tropes. The only difference is that some aspects are better written compared to most others. Characters are more developed, their inner monologues are quite common to read and add more personality to each of them.

I Killed the Academy Player starts off a bit slow, but ultimately delivers an entertaining transmigration story with likable characters and solid plotting. The protagonist Korin regresses after the hero fails to defeat the villain, vowing to save the world and help those he couldn't before.

The novel shines in its action scenes, which are vividly described and paired well with the heartwarming story arcs focused on Korin helping the heroines. The positive tone and the MC's heroic motivations make for a refreshing change from the prevalence of evil/antihero protagonists. The... more>> comedy sprinkled throughout also lightens the mood.

The pacing is fast but not too rushed, finding a good balance between Korin's strength development and progression of the storyline. Side characters feel fleshed out with their own purposes instead of just being wallpaper. Romance develops naturally over time instead of the heroines immediately falling for the MC.

While the setting of an academy in a game world is fairly standard for the genre, the novel still manages to feel unique thanks to the charismatic protagonist, well-executed action, and uplifting plot. Fans of transmigration stories looking for a heroic lead and addictive plot will find I Killed the Academy Player delivers plenty of entertainment value. <<less

The story starts with our protagonist regressing after the hero fails to kill the main villain of the story and the world is doom.

Korin Lork, the protagonist of this story, swears that he will be save the world and save every person he couldn’t in his past life.

One of the greatest aspects of this novel is the action combined with the story arcs of the heroines. And also, but not as important is the comedy tone this novel some time has.

Most of the first 80 chapters revolves around Korin saving... more>> people at the same time he does everything he can to become stronger. Also most of the arcs until now are about Korin saving or helping the heroines of the story with their problems. So you should be aware this a harem novel.

Overall the main apeal of this story is the MC, the actions scenes and the heroines plus the comedy undertone this novel has from time to time. <<less

this is a good novel. To be honest I didn't get my hopes up at first because it had academy written in the title. But it turns out that the content is good enough, so it's suitable for killing time.

Protagonist:

Spoiler

The protagonist of the novel, after regressing, sets his sights on killing the player and single-handedly saving the world. The protagonist is a morally upright individual who does not let his principles become an impediment to his goals. He is rational and strives to save as many people as he can within his scope of awareness. His oaths of saving the world and not ignoring the misfortune of others reflect his commitment to doing what is right.

The protagonist in this novel should not be referred to as a saint, as he values allowing good people to have a best ending. However, this does not mean he hesitates in killing those who he deems necessary to eliminate. He embodies the characteristics of a chad, a definitive hero, distinct from the self-centered individuals found in typical cringe Chinese novels and the hesitant beta depicted in junkfood Japanese novels. This unique hero is perhaps only found in this masterpiece, making the protagonist a truly remarkable character.

Harem:

Spoiler

Rich Potato mommy supermacy. The female characters in this story are all exceptional and play critical roles in the plot. Each of them brings unique qualities and charm, making it difficult to choose just one as the "best girl." Their contributions to the story's development cannot be understated, as they provide depth and complexity to the novel. In short, it's refreshing to see a story where every female character is a standout in her own way.

I definitely enjoy this series quite a lot. The main character has to put actual effort in to get stronger and actually plans ahead in a way that most series don’t bother with. Most character interactions are reasonable. That being said, character events happen faster than feels realistic, like some other reviews pointed out, however that itself is mostly fine because it’s based off of a game.

its still interesting, but it is starting to feel a bit like bog standard character writing. We have immensely dense MC, and perhaps too many characters. It kinda feels like the author is struggling to manage all the character relationships while not giving them each enough time to grow. There also seems to be a kinda heavy parallel with Ending Maker where the MC and crew can't really do any real wrong, but this story is missing the witty banter and endearing antics that make that aspect enjoyable.

C78 review

It's still... more>> really fun and the story arcs have been interesting. I don't think it's the most innovative sorry, but it is well executed.

Marie (blue girl from cover) is an absolute babe.

c28 review

I don't normally do such early chapter reviews, but I wanted to just put a review out there since there aren't any others.

The first arc of the story is pretty good as far as reincarnated with game knowledge genre goes. I also really enjoyed the first couple chapters that had the twist in it, but it really doesn't play that big of a role in the story at least so far. It does provide nice motivations for the main character, though.

I think it has potential to be a pretty good variant of this type of story although you have to be worried about how the romance is written... I don't want it to fall into the standard harem tropes where girls fall for MC for no reason. To be clear, this hasn't happened yet but I am still early story so I think we will see more of how the author approaches that in the second arc.

It appears genesistl is picking this up, with more releases starting in December 2022. I'd recommend giving it a try. Will update as I complete more story arcs. <<less

The novel commendably demonstrates a consistent quality throughout its narrative. While the premise, plot, and setting are rather conventional, the execution is commendable, and the characters are generally appealing. The human combat sequences are particularly impressive, although the numerous human versus monster encounters are less engaging. Each character plays a significant role, contributing meaningfully to the story without feeling extraneous.

The protagonist stands out as a charismatic leader, adept at harnessing the potential of his companions due to his experience from a previous iteration and gaming background. His interactions are refreshing,... more>> characterized by strong social skills, yet he embodies the clichéd trait of being obliviously dense to his romantic interests. This combination certainly adds a nuanced dynamic to his relationships, however it failed to pique my attention due to its blatant ab*se of the trope of a dense protagonist in a harem. It feels cheap.

However, the narrative suffers from a perceived lack of stakes, as the protagonist's preparations, with his utterly perfect memorization of every single action he has to take to succeed (and the enemies moving as expected), create an impression of inevitable success. The exposition and world-building fails to engage more often than not, lacking compelling reasons for me to invest in them. Although the novel was an adequate read, it failed to generate sufficient suspense in me for its overarching plot or mystery.

On a lighter note, the comedic elements, though subjective, provide a hilarious diversion and enhanced my overall reading experience. It left me cackling as I read.

This is a great read. The MC is strong, but not cheat skill OP strong; he's strong because he's basically Batman and prepares well in advance and trains religiously. He also wields a spear, which is something you hardly see nowadays.

The cover and title makes this seem like edgeshit, but it's a comedy most of the time. The humor hits pretty well, too, in my opinion.

My only complaint so far is that the harem aspects get ramped up around chapter 70 or so onward, and it detracts from the main... more>> quest in my opinion. Also, the MC is your usual dumbass harem protagonist who causes misunderstandings with his entourage of b*tches for the sake of comedy. There's a really cringeworthy forced melodrama situation from chapter 100 onward, all because the author wanted to get some cheap drama about the harem I guess. It's entirely because the MC is a braindead ret*rd. It's like he suddenly dropped 30 IQ points from somewhere around 70 onward, so the harem stuff becomes the usual you'd see in JP novels.

Translation: The translation seems solid, no complaints here. <<less

I Killed the Player of the Academy is a story about struggle, perseverance, getting back up once you are knocked down, overcoming obstacles, harem, Rizz, Rizz and even more Rizz. This story has been explained far better by other reviews than mine but I would just like to add that Korin is an MC whose story you can't stop wanting to read more of. The presence of taking actions to change the future to save the world is there and the fact that this is a game world which Korin... more>> is very knowledgeable about blends well with this element of regression and the fact that he is not immediately OP helps a lot with grounding his character, giving the reader a sense of urgency and allows him to form relations with the main heroines much more organically.

Spoiler

Korin's shenanigans as Immortan Lork are one of the best and funniest parts of the novel but the action is nothing to be scoffed at, in fact, it has some of the best actions out of the hundreds of webnovels I have read but the real backbone of the novel is it's harem, as in the interactions of Korin with all of the heroines.

TLDR: 9/10 novel, must read, very good translation <<less

Without a doubt, one of the best novels I have read in a long time.

Very good world construction, characters with well-defined background and evolution, interactions between characters or world-characters also very clean. I was delighted.

It is clearly not perfect, for example, at the beginning several secondary characters appear who seem to be very important to the plot, but in the end they are forgotten and do not have much background, being removed when they are busy in battle.

Or also elements like the inn that was very important in several arcs... more>> for several chapters, but was never mentioned again at a certain point.

However, regardless of its flaws, this novel gives us epic battles, funny moments, a nice romance (most of it at the end), and a beautiful happy ending.

On the other hand, I liked the harem in this story. I'm a person who definitely says no to the harem, but this story was different, I really enjoyed it, not only because the majority of the female cast is very fun to read (excluding Marie, who is annoying), but also because of the attitude of the protagonist towards the harem, since he is a supporter of monogamy, but he was forced to have a harem by his precepts because his survival depends on it haha.

In short, a very good novel and totally recommended. Although warn that, although it seems short because of the few chapters, those few chapters can last between 15 and 20 minutes each because of how long they are.

Not good at making reviews so here goes

The novel has a good start, it starts off a bit slow but delivers a consistent story. It has decently paced development with enjoyable content with a unique-ish plot. Works well as novel junk food honestly.

It has well written characters with good writing with reasonable interactions with the side characters. Although MC being thick as a brick in some situations is kind of annoying, like I get bro went to an all guys school and the military but bro is either denser than... more>> tungsten or consciously avoiding them most of the time. While it may not be the most creative plot wise, it offers a good romance and comedy filled read outside the more serious parts, which is entertaining, especially the mindsets of some of the female leads lmao.

I love how the MC, despite being the cardboard cutout goody two shoes kind of guy, doesnt feel as annoying to read unlike the other mc's who act like this. MC also shows considerable growth considering all he really has is his flunky player system, runes, and his honed spear skills from the first run.

As others have said, while the early parts feel slow and dont do the later parts justice, it is definitely worth reading through the slower parts to get to the meaty and better parts. Overall this novel deserves a 4/5 and is a fun read, and spear users are cool man.

If my grammar felt off in the review, I am sorry as english isnt my first language. <<less

The novel is good so far, in my opinion for the reason being:

•Yandere Harem-many may dislike it but in my opinion it is one of the charms of this novel.

•Kind mc- although he is kind, he is not naive enough that he will actually spare an enemy which is good enough for me.

... more>> •Side Characters are not there to just glorify the mc's achievement.

•Comedy- the interaction between the love interest is just hilarious.

•Weak to strong mc- the MC actually trains to get stronger after all his cheat is non-existent under normal circumstances.

Now the reason I gave this novel a 4 star is:

•The MC is just extremely sense thus the romance aspect is just as slow as a snail. <<less
