This is an okay slice of life novel, it honestly did better than I expected because the book undersells itself at the beginning, saying the MC is an average guy with no golden fingers or superior knowledge who transmigrates into ancient times.

That aside, my major annoying tick with this book is also one of the most realistic parts of it, the romance. Unlike other comments that just blame the MC, I found both sides annoying (but understandable). The MC has a 10 year deadline to leave this world so he... more>> wants to be responsible. He doesn't want to initiate a romance or develop feelings or do activities that would bring more children into the world because he might have to abruptly abandon them when he leaves the ancient world back to his own time. Unlike other novels, he is aware he is returning back but he also has no way to negotiate or ask questions about this. It's a quite a helpless situation to be in.

Spoiler

The ML also falls in love with the MC who treats him with kindness & care. He is very much in love but also very emotional and struggling with low self esteem. So he is hurt and keeps pushing hard the more the MC tries to create distance. The ML ignores/forgets the MC's explanations & boundaries, he just wants to consummate the relationship, then cried & gets depressed when the MC doesn't want to. The MC even tried to take a precaution of clearly rejecting a romantic relationship from the start. Even when the MC later tells him a version of the truth as to why they can't be together, the ML still pushes. Fortunately, the MC does have feelings for him and it's eventually okay/profitable that the ML never listens and uses every emotional tactic to get closer... Otherwise such pushiness after several rejections would be annoying & intrusive. Though the MC is a knuckle head that is scared to face his feelings because of his future (of returning back to modern times after 10 years), the ML is even ready to settle for a short term relationship. This drags the relationship dynamic as they face the same issues repeatedly, it's a push & pull.

[collapse]

It's a real portrayal of a cluster of emotions in both characters, making them multidimensional because the plot doesn't gloss over the difficult hurdle their relationship has to go through. <<less

This was okay. I like to read this genre (transmigration, farming BL) when I don't want to have to think. This genre usually has a lot of fluff and characters with plot armor. This story tried to deliver that, but wasn't as good a read as others in this genre. The rating would have been higher if the romance wasn't so lackluster and the MC so unlikeable. If it was Shounen Ai (where the romance takes a backstage to the rest of the plot) I could have given that a... more>> pass, but this was yaoi where the romance should play a bigger role.

Spoiler

The MC has to return to his original world after a specific amount of time. As a result, he decides not to have a relationship with the ML and to discourage the ML's feelings. Fine. This is actually a great plot point, and having him deal with the conflicting feeling he's developing for the ML would have made a great story. That isn't what happened. Insted he leads the MC on, is intentionally cruel, practically pushes other men on the MC, and then at the end gets possessive. Also the ML can come across as a dependent doormat with all his self-worth issues unresolved and overcome with the power of 'love'.

[collapse]

ML moral standing and economic development approach were topnotch, but there was still and issue with his sactimouious enforcement of ideals he expects everyone to accept and agree with despite people from the era being socially conditioned for years to accept something else. <<less
