Gu Jin, your average day-to-day worker, crossed into a novel as the supporting character and best friend and cousin of the female protagonist, Cheng Xin, who was frequently surrounded by men of status and quality. The two cousins believed they’d enjoy this friendship for a lifetime.

But soon, Gu Jin discovered that the body she had crossed into had memories of future events beyond the novel’s plot, including finding out that her marriage would end in utter failure. Her husband, the second male lead named Shao Chong, would neglect their marriage because of his infatuation for Cheng Xin. On the day that Gu Jin was kidnapped and beaten to death, her good husband stayed by her cousin’s side and accompanied her to the hospital.

When Gu Jin transmigrated into this novel world and learned of the truth, she refused to waste this new life as a supporting role for her cousin the way the previous soul had done. She refused to live her life as a spectator in someone else’s love story. No. She would be the protagonist of her own romance in this new life.

I'll give 2 stars for it being HE and with a cute child. BUT it still don't deserve that mercy. The story was platonic and without emotion. I never felt their progress and was shocked that they were already declaring their undying love to each other. Where the f*ck is the love? I don't see it. Such a waste of completed translation when there are better novels out there left untranslated. What a shame.

P.S: Believe me when I say you're wasting your time 'cause I did. Those other good reviews?... more>> They must be blind. <<less

I went in expecting a cliche transmigration story, even so I was disappointed.

The story feels very lacking and it's full of comments to fulfill the author's vanity.

I really detest stories where the major point is to describe how flawless the female lead is constantly; all other characters are just there to make her look better. One thing that's common in these stories is how they make the original soul seem worse than the transmigrator; here before MC transmigrated, the woman was a plain/dull existence easily overlooked. As soon as MC... more>> arrives, she becomes dazzling and everyone is filled with regret. (Que massive eye roll session)

For someone so constantly described like they're an amazing existence, I found her incredibly boring and plain. It's like she didn't care about anything.

Let's talk about the male lead. What kind of role model is he? As soon as they first meet;

Spoiler

Of course, he's been drugged and she enters his room at a restaurant. He tries to do her and takes in her scent, then when she fights back and hurts him he gets ticked off and decides to deal with her later. All this while he blames her for hurting him! He then blackmails her to enter a sketchy relationship, and he's always overbearing and doesn't care about her wants or needs.

[collapse]

Later, in their relationship;

Spoiler

Without even talking to her, he tells her parents they're getting engaged and hope to marry after she graduates. I don't think I need to explain that any further.

[collapse]

This guy isn't even a yandere, he's a creepy and disturbing man who seem to be forgiven for everything because he's cold, handsome &rich. I just get goosebumps, though.

The side characters were all half-heartedly used and left behind, leaving a lot of questions.

MC forgot about the original soul, pretty much. I don't understand why she was even transmigrated as a plot when she was going to be so shitty about it. She died so cruelly but they never went deep into details about it. Most of the story felt focused on her and ML's very dull romance.

I haven't felt this frustrated in a while, probably because I expected it to be mediocre but it was worse than so. <<less

It is a HE. The romance was sort of automatic and a bit rushed. Another soul occupied the FL's body so she is more objective since she knew the book's ending. I gave it 3.5 stars because some parts of the story annoyed me with their actions. The FL was annoying at some points.
Spoiler

One thing is the new FL didn't go after the thieves who mu*dered the original FL?

[collapse]

I like the epilogues after the ending, especially the FL's original husband's POV.
Spoiler

He realized how much of a dirt bag he was and his prioritization was wrong. He thought that he too, has a second chance with re-incarnation, that he can make it up to the FL. But the original FL is no longer there but a different soul has occupied her body. Sadly, he could have had true happiness in the first life but will never achieve it in the next life. He will never meet that unborn child of his with the original FL's. He can never get redemption for his mistake.

[collapse]

About the antagonists:
Spoiler

I felt it was too lenient on the male antagonist. The female antagonist changed for the better but how she easily accepted the male antagonist again after he threw her away for his business and wife-to-be, I felt she should have more backbone. At least she isn't dense/self-centered anymore and forces emotions onto people

[collapse]

About the original FL's soul:
Spoiler

In an alternate life, she gets her HE with another guy who loved her but never got the fate to start it in the first life. She has more backbone against the antagonist and can see objectively. Lol. I want to read more into her storyline!

This book was just so-so, it wasn't bad, but not as good as I expected. 150 chapters flashed by in a blink of an eye. Good enough to kill some time I guess. But I did like how the transmigrated FL didn't immediately cut off the heroine and planned everything slowly. She also wasn't stubborn in rejecting the ML, even took the initiative to get together with him after she realized her own feeling.

The ML... well, he is your typical overbearing male lead. He did force the FL to be... more>> his girlfriend by using her family heirloom to threaten her right after he assaulted her in a drunken state. Not the best way to start a relationship, and certainly did not leave a good impression. But meh, he's called the ML for a reason. I'll let that slide.

The heroine also admitted her mistakes and changed for the better. I've read a few books where the heroine turned into a s*upid villainess and it annoyed me every time. I wasn't really satisfied that the author hinted she got back together with the book's original male lead tho. He was a total scum, you deserve better, honey.

The extras which showed the life of the original host caused me to shed some tears as well. I couldn't help but empathize with her. But it's great that the original host was also rebirthed into an alternate universe. I wish her well.

Overall I still feel that this book is lacking in some parts. The story didn't get too deep and it left me hanging. But as I said, this book was just good enough to release some boredom. I finished it in less than a day. 5/5. <<less

The plot was promising but the final chapters just barely saved the whole story.

The translation was pleasant but because the storytelling ran ragged (too fast when it should have been more detailed in some parts and the opposite in others), I couldn't help feeling that it was abrupt.

If you're looking for a quick read though then this story is just fine.

There nothing special about story or character, its type of story that I would forget after finished reading it.

Its light reading material, with not many conflicts and drama, the pace feel rushed.

When I'm reading chapter 103, suddenly I'm realizing, that I reached more than half of story but there nothing significant grow of plot line.

interesting at the beginning, but like many of these shoujo second lead getting revenge sort of novels it gets boring. The start of the relationship between FL and ML was so fcking weird?!?! Completely no logic in how humans interact. The whole drama part is also pretty boring. Overall boring.

A bit boring... I did like the beginning, but the heroine's academic dumbness and lack of ambition was off-putting. As is her lack of ability to do anything other than stomp on people with her heels, dress pretty, and act petty. Her emphasis on looking 'pretty' with nice makes up, fancier clothing, jewelry, and heels is so silly... And the perfect, rich, handsome, cold male lead is so improbably, he lacks character (as of ch 27)

The best character I think is the puppy like brother. I wish there was... more>> more of him. <<less

I actually really liked this one. Mostly because it broke away from a lot of tropes that crop up in Chinese romance novels that I've read.

First of all the female lead is a strong and capable character. She really stands out from the pack in that regard since she honestly seems like she could take or leave the whole "romance" part of the story for most of the wordcount. She has her own ideas and goals and she doesn't instantly become delicate like a flower or fragile like glass every... more>> time the male lead steps into the room. She sets firm boundaries in the relationship between her and the ML and doesn't let him trample over them. A female lead like this is really a breath of fresh air.

The male lead was also much better than a lot of comparable male leads in other stories. He still has the whole "powerful domineering CEO" setting but he acts a lot more like a normal person. He gets possessive and jealous but it gets expressed in the story in a way that seems romantic... rather than "rapey" like a lot of OTHER male leads in this genre.

The supporting cast is also really good considering how short the story is overall. The "original female lead" has a real character arc and seems to grow as a person throughout the story instead of being cartoonishly evil the way a lot of opposing female leads are. And the whole arc with the second (or is he the third?) male lead was really poignant. Even though by the end I still felt that he was s*um that didn't really deserve redemption, at the very least I can say that his whole little mini-arc made for a very compelling storyline.

In short, I would highly recommend this story to anyone who likes the Chinese romance genre but is tired of the same old boring "weak and delicate female lead gets crushed under the domineering and overbearing CEO male lead" mold. In so many of these stories I'm halfway to tearing my hair out over how s*upid the female leads tend to act (you know, forgiving people who obviously shouldn't be forgiven, provoking people who obviously shouldn't be provoked, and constantly getting 'naively' played with in the hands of the male lead)... but this one was not like that at all and I really enjoyed it because of that.

The only real negative point is how short the story was. It ends kind of abruptly and the last few chapters before the epilogues are more or less just an exposition dump that fleshes out the male leads past a bit more - it's a really clumsy way for the author to give the readers insight into the male lead's character and since it's the very last thing that happens in the story it left a bit of a bad taste. If the author had stretched out another 30 or 40 chapters to introduce all that information more organically it would have been a better story... but what we got is still pretty good overal. <<less

A shallow, bland story with equally bland characters. It honestly hurts me to rate a novel low despite the translators efforts but there really wasn't anything redeeming about this novel. From start to finish nothing really grabbed my interest and the characters were not intriguing in the slightest. It's a short read but probably wouldn't be your best use of time.

i really don't know how to rate this piece of work to be completely honest, though, I thought I still might share my opinion to anyone thinking of having a good read. This story in my own opinion, is pretty decent. Although, many times it feels predictable, rushed, and the start of the ML and FL's relationship is less then desirable, it still has a decent plot and characters that are interesting enough. My personal favorite part of this story that really bettered my view of it was the ending... more>> chapters, they made me cry. The ending was open-ended enough to keep you wondering but still make you feel satisfied. It jerked many hot tears out of dehydrated desert-like eyes and when a piece of writing not only pulls tears from me but also makes me feel satisfied with an ending but also makes me want more the novel certainly deserves a 4 stars in my book. I wish you happy reading! ≪3 ;)

Gave it 5 stars but it probably deserves 4.

I like it because its realistic. The enemies get realistic punishments and go on with their lives. Very open ended because life does go on even if they are an "enemy". Its not satisfying but its realistic. The open endedness for some is kind of nice but it makes u want to know more about the side characters lives because they have stories of their own. Overall its a pretty short decent read that u wish had more chapters.

It's not that bad but it isn't that good either.

It's your typical Mary Sue plus the cliche.

The story was promising it's not that bad, well aside from the actions of ML from the start. My only concern was the flow of story isn't good. There were many plots that were left hanging. It felt rushed.

good

not particularly memorable and kinda cliche but I do like the ML and FL

no pointless face slapping or revenge plots, the FL simply lives her best life and gives the ML a chance rather than the story getting dragged on due to misunderstandings

everyone in the novel gets what they deserved

At first I like this novel and it totally sparked my interest on how the MC actually carried herself after transmigration. I am so satisfied when she took the initiative to actually cut off everyone who are pretty toxic in her life and this gives off a very good impression on her.

Sadly, the MC relationship with the ML is not really that appealing to me. She acted as if its better to actually not associate with the ML but still linger around. It will be great if she can actually... more>> set her mind on whether or not she want to be his girlfriend.

Overall story is interesting and quite satisfying. Just a bit boring (for me) after the actual event.

Character development is okay. I dont actually see MC or ML change a lot but maybe in the near future. Other characters changed in a way when they got what they deserved.

For those who want some satisfying second-chance novel, this is a great recommendation but not really great as a romance novel. <<less

The plot has no flow, and the skips are confusing. Pretty ordinary romance story.

The characters weren't very developed, this whole novel is basically about all sort of romantic relations built on the wrong motivation and poorly executed slag plans. It annoys you to no end but I still end up reading to the latest chapter.

Still, Not my cup of tea

This novel has a good plot and start but the ending was kinda felt like it was not enough, like I feel that this could have been better if the author added more chapters so that the audience will get into the story more.. FL is good strong and funny, ML is the typical cold kind but loyal one, Their interactions was cute though and I really like reading their cute scenes.. Yeah I know some don't like the ML because of what happened at the start and how he... more>> force FL into a relationship with him, but just give him some slack, it was the first time he felt attraction to an opposite s*x and kinda noob on how to start things with her..I think lol? But it could have been better if the author give more reasons for them to fall in love.. Really a pity! The whole story feels rushed that it just ended like that.. But the end was still satisfying

Spoiler

Especially the extra chapters on what happend after Original Gu Jin died in her previous life and how Shao Chong felt after he found out the news.. I cried a little bit though because Shao Chong is an idiot and did not appreciate what he got.. He got what he deserved but it was still not enough because Gu Jin and her child died, so sad for Gu Jin ?????

This was an okay read, not a great one but it can alleviate your boredom. <<less

This novel is alright. What attracted me to read this novel would be the female lead’s personality.

The female lead is a very calm and someone thinks ahead and plan ahead type of person. An example where it shows that she is of such personality is when she first met the male lead after the incident in the restaurant. Even though it is true that she is harassed, she still stayed calm and she only agreed to the terms with the male lead because she thinks he is of useful value... more>> where it would be easier to distance away from the second Male lead and female lead.

As for the male lead, well, it is true that the male lead sexually harassed her, that part I can’t deny it. But our female lead is still strong and defend herself by hitting him back like their first meeting. The Male lead is somewhat similar to the female lead. They are both cautious and manipulative. It is honestly funny to see how they ‘plot’ against each other though each party actually knows what the other party is thinking. The Male lead after falling for the female lead is very possessive and persistent in chasing her.

There were many funny parts in the relationship where the female lead will dare to do certain actions when others wouldn’t dare to do to the male lead which is hilarious. Honestly, there is no clear description on how they fell in love but from what I infer I think they got attracted to each other because of their own personality.

The writing style of this author consists of a bit of show no tell which is exciting to read and anticipate. Though it may not be as complicated to infer as other authors, but it is exciting to see especially when they ‘plot’ against one another. I was a bit disappointed with the ending though. It is a bit abrupt but somehow still makes sense as there are extras to complete the story. It made me wanted more though.

In conclusion, it is a good read I would say. Though it may not be as fantastic and exciting as others, what is attracting of this book would be the female lead’s personality and interactions between the female and male lead. I would recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a novel who has very mentally strong personality. <<less

All the characters except for the Female Lead in this story are brainless, senseless, disgusting in their thinking and down right disturbing. From Cheng Xin to Jing Hao to his grandfather, Shao Chong, don't even get me started on Mu Mingchen. The novel itself had a lot of premise but the characters ruined it. Though Cheng Xin changes later which is good.

Omo I'm the type to normally give a novel a try despite all the negative reviews but omo this one was just bad and the characters are infuriating, did... more>> I also forget to mention disgusting, even the Male Lead. Shao Chong is 2nd worst after the ML <<less
