I Start with a Bad Hand

I’ve reincarnated as an extra in an original novel, a character who is unclear in wealth, title, and even whether they are a villain. I possess no starting capital like the surprisingly resource-less protagonist and no skills applicable in this world. Life is too exhausting to live in utter poverty.

All I want is to safely escape from this novel.

I don’t need the annoying ducal family, the intimidating crown prince, nor the promiscuous foreign nobility.

“Please, just let me out!”

In the midst of struggling at the academy to return to reality, I keep hesitating to escape because of one person I meet.

The story is really good. The premise and the plot wa written pretty well. Although the translation isn't good it was bearable. One thing negative about this is maybe the translation or writing but often times I don't know when and how one and another character come and goes. The story didn't tell whoever in the room, and just casually that there are people chatting or the people go. Such as how FL argue with crown prince, and then icarus came and then there is no talk about how and... more>> when the crown prince left. It felt ambigous and it happened often times. But again besides the writing, the story is really good. It got me sitting in the edge of fl's decision and what could happened next. Pretty unpredictable I might say.

Also, I was sad that there is no disscussionbof the spoiler forum in novel update. I was looking for the side stories. Can anyone pls share with us what happened to icarus and jaehee-dietrich after time skip? Pls <<less

A sweet and touching story, I felt bittersweet when it ended. The premise of the story is interesting. While it uses the typical reincarnation/transmigration tropes, it talks about a pretty important issue/plot hole often not talked about enough in the trope: the MC (Dietrich) truly wanting to go back to her original world and being unwilling to live in someone else's body ... more>>

because her conscience felt that it was unfair to receive the benefits and opportunities of someone else (aka the real Dietrich). The MC even went so far as to accept death simply because she didn't want to "leech" off of someone else's body until she realized she *did* want to live and even then she only fully accepted it when the real Dietrich told her she didn't mind.

[collapse]
I feel like that's a more realistic reaction than simply wanting to go back home only for the first few chapters and fully embracing their new 'selves' right away.

I also like how the story behind the transmigration is really fully carved out and is a central plot point of the story.
Spoiler

The real Dietrich wanted to change the past so much that she killed herself to be able to turn back time and have someone else live as her to change her past.

And throughout the story, MC had to continuously dig out the real Dietrich's life to solve all her regrets and uncover the truth of her birth.

The story had its touching and heartfelt moments,

the scene with Evan (MC's younger half-brother and also the only decent person in that family) and the side story about Maria and Tristan made me tear up, sheesh

[collapse]

The friendship with the side-characters was really sweet, the bond between MC and Evan (MC's younger brother) was so touching too, and the whole story with Dietrich and the original FL of the novel MC transmigrated to ended in such a nice way as well,
Spoiler

it's interesting how Roxanne (OG FL) went from being neutral with MC to being jealous of her and hating her to then be at peace with her again. At her core she's just a girl in an unfortunate situation who becomes insecure because of the way the people who 'loves' her treats her, I'm glad she got a good ending in the end.

.

The love story with MC and ML was so pure

(it really was so pure lol they only kissed twice in the whole story and it was described within one sentence)

and, as I keep repeating, sweet (the things he would do for her, my goodness). Their relationship started off as a simple friendship and slowly developed into love, it's pretty well-written. You can really see as the story progresses how ML falls in love with MC and in return how MC slowly starts to accept her feelings for ML.

The way MC handled all the characters who disliked or hated her was also very nice to read, she's just so nonchalant and mature about it without being a doormat. Her responses are very entertaining to read lol.

My only criticism for this would be about the ending, around the end of the story MC's friends just sort of disappear? We don't get any proper or conclusive endings for them even though they're pretty important characters.
Spoiler

Irene, specifically, barely had any scenes with Dietrich at the end; she said she would talk to Dietrich about some stuff but we never read anything about it afterwards.

, perhaps in extra chapters if the author had written one.

But all in all, if you decide to read this novel I doubt you'll regret it (unless you're part of the group of people who don't like these types of stories lol). This was a solid read, I couldn't put this down and ended up finishing the whole thing in less than a week haha.

P. S. This story also kind of reminds me of 'Ariel Dalton Wants to Graduate', with the academy setting and the writing style. If you ended up reading this novel and liked it, I recommend reading that novel as well. There's a good chance you'd like it too. <<less

I've only read the first 10 chapters, and I'm already thoroughly hooked! Initially, the premise seemed to tread the familiar path of yet another isekai story, but it quickly distinguished itself from the usual tropes.

Granted, I am still at the beginning and have not seen too much of the world, but the (FL) is both strong and smart, and doesn't try to make a deal with the ML or villain. What makes it so enjoyable to read is superb translation. Lastly, at least for now, the story has a nice... more>> pace and no fillers. <<less

It's so good. At first I was a bit skeptical because the atmosfer was too dark to my liking, but as I read further, the story became more and more interesting. I haven't laughed this hard since I Don't Want to Be an Ojakgyo, but this story is as funny as that. It's too good, the dynamic of each character was excellent, it's as if I witness their interactions myself. Recommended, really.

Good story. Nothing too exciting, but flowed well. I liked the variety of characters and the acknowledgment of the limitations of the world.

Decent translation (a few pronoun issues, nothing major). Website was annoying for popup adds blocking text and going down almost every day... but I persevered.
