I Thought It Was a Common Transmigration

As if it wasn’t enough to be hit on the head by my co-workers and boyfriend, I died at the hands of my gambling-addict older brother. Without even regretting my unfortunate death, I realized that I had possessed a supporting role in a romantic fantasy novel, which I just read yesterday. To be precise, a villainess destined to die at the hands of her husband. I know it’s cliché!

‘Possessed a villainess in a romantic fantasy novel! So this is what it feels like?’

I thought it was pretty good for the price of my unfair death. Until I realize that no matter what I do, I can’t deviate from the flow of the original. For the female lead Lizé, it’s a delightful cider series, but it’s nothing more of a bloody story for Edith, the villainess I possessed.

I am the protagonist in my life. If I’m going to die according to the original story, I should at least kiss my super handsome husband! In the original story, Edith is greatly despised by her husband, but who cares, I’m going to die anyway. However…

“You pretended not to be, but now you’re so hot to play with. Well, that’s good.”

“Yes…?”

“Satisfy me like Riegelhoff’s serpent. Well, who knows? I might be interested in that body of yours.”

…why is the original story starting to change now?

Why you'll like it:

Spoiler

You WILL cry. This one has a big emotional wallop.

It is very well written, with an interesting take on the isekai experience. The FL does not have godlike powers of detail via plot knowledge; some things change and wind up surprising her. There's some mystery about how things work, and we figure it out alongside her, in a way that is fun and not frustrating.

The characters, especially the FL and the villain, are psychologically nuanced and complex. And it's just fun and dramatic, but in a not-t00-stressful way.

Has many scenes you'll want to read and re-read.

I enjoy being a dramatic little B, and this lets me without going overboard.

The world building is well done, and not in a 'let me write a 5 page essay on this world I designed' way.

[collapse]

Why many people hate it or, more typically, find it frustrating:

Spoiler

The entire concept and plot only really works and is made possible because the FL was horrifically ab*sed and neglected in her life before getting isekaied.

She spent the majority of her youth sick and suffering, then her adulthood being overlooked and taken advantage of. Because of this, she is thrilled at any attention her grumpy husband gives her, and perfectly content to be fully ignored.

Being treated like garbage is her normal, so their treating her like garbage doesn't phase her, and this is the magic formula for getting the chemistry to work.

Plus, bonus! she at least gets good food, a healthy-ish body, and nice, fancy things to enjoy while they keep her under house arrest and surveillance yet again. So she's just having a grand old time, since the hell scape she wound up in is marginally better than her regular life.

Any normal, well-adjusted, mentally healthy woman would protest 99.9% of the garbage treatment she is required to put up with, and she doesn't even seem phased because she doesn't realize this is not a normal or good way to treat people.

There's a lack of the 'you go girl' female-becoming-empowered triumph in favor of the FL finding the happy home life she wants. So, instead of demanding a divorce, torching her POS in-laws' family reputation to the ground, and running off with the hot private secretary guy while we all cheer.... she and her husband work through everything and wind up happy together. Which is lovely, but I wanted castles burned to the ground and groveling.

While she and her husband do work and have the natural chemistry of a pair well-written to match each other, he is sex-motivated and that's a bit of a yucky mouth feel. The main reason he likes her is her s*x appeal, because she's got a seductress bod and flashy looks, and his emotions tend to be physically-based. It takes him a long time to acknowledge the rest of her stellar qualities, like her personality and intelligence, and he just comes across like one of those guys whose main priority in a relationship, which outweighs the combined total of all the other characteristics of his partner, is s*x. Which, I get was needed to get him to like her before he actually liked her, and she is a willing and happy participant (a rarity in these stories) but c'mon, this was written for women, can't we get a better guy? This one has a bit of a blecky aftertaste.

He's also got a drop of a v*rginity obsession which is very unappealing: he's always had to compete with his older brother, Cliff, so he is thrilled to death to realize he gets to be many of his wife's 'firsts', from first gift to first bouquet to first outing, to more physical firsts and likes how innocent she is... while still having a killer bod and being DTF only him. Yuck.

Spoiler

Edith eventually finds out that she is 13th woman to isekai into this role.

The deaths of 12 other Ediths before her is conveniently brushed over and forgotten by the FL so she can have her happily ever after with her husband. This is the most frustrating thing to me. I get that the plot armor system prevented him from evolving his character.... but that doesn't mean he isn't the type to ab*se his wife (like, literally ab*se his wife), and then kill her when the inevitable happens and she decides "screw this family". If he had been even slightly polite to any of his 12 previous wives, she wouldn't have picked her the 'traitors' path (though is it really a betrayal when her in laws treated her that poorly?)

In short, the husband and the in laws are not good people, and while they suffer a little (the duke and duchess must endure a girl they raised as their own and love dearly turning into a hated, shrieking harpy while their eldest son and heir becomes her bit*h boy and gets tortured that way) it ends pretty quickly and they all get to go on to have happy, fulfilling lives that make me want to scream at them.

Extra twisted is that the previous Ediths, aside from the original, were healthy, normal women with basic self esteem, and that's what got them mu*dered, because they would stand up and protest against the abominably unfair treatment.

I feel very torn up about the OG Edith never getting justice or vindication, especially since she was made live her hellish lifer over, and over, and over, and over again until the villain got bored and began brining in the others. I like to imagine she at least got to switch places with the first replacement girl and live well, but that's just wishful thinking.

My lengthy ranting in the 'why you won't' section aside, this really is one of the best stories on here. <<less

To be honest, OG FL was a real b*tch.

I don't think anyone will actually read this but this is for future readers!

The novel itself is quite nice and the manhwa, although missing many details, doesn't disappoint! The FL seems like the MCs of those saintess novels, she's a really forgiving person much like the OG FL was supposed to be. There was a real lack of cider cause of this since she mainly relied on the ML to save her. Don't worry, she is strong and never asked for help.... more>> It was only the situations where he chose to help himself.

Spoiler

Like when he was going to 'kill her' like in the OG novel, he chose not to even when she gave up. She didn't ask for help and he did it on his own volition.

[collapse]

Cliff is decent by the end but I still hate him.

Full spoilers below.

Spoiler

According to the story, OG FL was also possessed by the Author of the story and had lived the same life as Lize multiple times. She eventually got bored and chose to have people possess the villain, Edith. She successfully got through 12 lives like this and she enjoyed it very much. She lived a life of killing her readers for self-satisfaction. Then came the 13th (our FL) who acted similarly at the beginning. However, as time went on it became clear that our FL was different from the different Edith's. She convinced everyone of her innocence using logic and soon the ML fell in love. OG FL used her privilege as an author to give rules to prevent FL from becoming 'a good person' as most of the other Edith's tried but the FL broke through the first by attempting to seduce ML. Contrary to OG FL's expectations, FL succeeded and they slept together. The next rule was to reject the ML 10 times and the FL succeeded since she thought ML was testing her. The last rule was to die as a villainess, but there was an exception and that was accepting her death. Time skip to before FL was going to be executed, she accepted her death but ML didn't want to kill her so she broke all the characters free from OG FL's control (she had an extra privilege to control characters with importance but the control weakened every time FL broke a rule) and then she spent time with ML. Soon FL confronted OG FL and said that she won't kill OG FL (I was really annoyed at this point). Instead, FL told her that since this is now a story with an unexpected future she could possibly end up with an even better ending. OG FL and OG ML get married extravagantly and then ML and FL leave to go to their new house. FL improves everything with modern knowledge and also tells ML about her being a transmigrator. He says that he'd try to understand her but he won't unconditionally believe her. Soon, she has to children and they live happily ever after.

Spoilers for OG FL and OG ML: They get married but she keeps wanting attention. So she tries seducing a bunch of people only to have more arguments. She pushes to act extravagantly which causes the Duke to dislike her and the Duchess basically gives up on her. Soon, she attempts to seduce the CP so he falls for her like in the OG story. Fails miserably and she gets scolded by Duke. And then, she tries to find the lost relative of the Emperor to gain favour. To do this, she goes to the s*ave auction where he was before but she only found a lookalike. She takes the lookalike and teaches him how to be a noble so she can fool the Marquis house (said relative was the Marquis' child) this also fails since his birth mark changed to a different area and she was imprisoned. Also, if you're asking why OG ML didn't divorce her, he made a contract. And it basically stopped him from leaving her optionally. Anyways, FL turns out to have found the child but she didn't know. When she visited the Duke's house she brought him and he was found. OG FL was allowed to survive but was sent to a monastery where her marriage was annulled. Then it goes to ML, FL and OG ML talking, he opened up about unconditionally loving her for some reason and I think he said he fell out of love as soon as they got married. But anyways, it ends up with FL telling him to get it together and find someone who he mutually loves. Timeskip to when FL and ML are going to the capital again, OG ML finds someone who he loves like a normal person and they're happy together. Story ends with FL thinking that it was really a common possession.

[collapse]

My honest feelings were that the story wasn't terrible but it was annoying that the FL acted like she was some kind saintess. Cute interactions between FL and ML tho. <<less

10/10. I liked it, it was so- what's that word, very addictive to read. The story has so many ups and down, the author has a knack to erupt our emotions as well as make it calm down.

I dont have any opinions about the Male Lead compared to other reviews, as everything that the ML did was only because of the constant manipulation and controlling of a specific someone.

Reccomended Read, sincerecely from me

Dont get attatched to the original heroine, tho in the first parts the MC will also like her. Shes a b*tch, end in end.

I read the guava-reads translation,

let me tell you, what I want from these books is; entertainment, and I have to say I had a blast.

Isn't that what's the most important? I loved the book that made me laugh and made me cry.

Edith and Killian were a lovable couple with a lot of banter and chemistry between them. The ending was satisfying. I don't have anything more to tell you it is a fun light read with a plot twist which is easy to guess after the first part of... more>> the novel. <<less

Loved this novel so much that I immediately re-read it after finishing the final chapter. Thank you Guava for the near perfect translations, and the author for a story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Loved both ML and FL and how the development of the story unfolded quite logically under the circumstances and plotline. Very well done.

Firstly, the translation for this novel was fantastic. I saw very few errors within the text! (Great Job Guava! ~) This is one of the few clichèd romance novels that kept my attention, since it wasn’t constant smut, it was bearable (the steamy scenes were very toned down and infrequent (no graphic details)) The romance that develops between the characters was entertaining, and the plot had an interesting twist that kept it fresh, and finally, it was pretty short. I love it when an author keeps a work concise and... more>> not drawn out with filler. Bravo! ~ <<less

I had high expectations since everyone was saying it was good, but it’s literally just another common transmigration story and not even one of the best ones. I can’t understand how the FL would fall in love with someone that treated her like a vulgar prostitute (and I’m quoting his exact words) and there is absolutely no chemistry between them. There is no sense of satisfaction at all in the whole novel, and the ending is just disappointing.

this is a great story! Edith is such a good FL and while it takes Killian sometime to get there, he's so good to her when he does. I really love their relationship! Kudos to the author and thank you to the translators for this wonderful novel!

In the begining, you don't read it to full satisfaction. BUT, somewhere between the first 30 chapters you can grasp what is the plot and what can the characters turn into. From that point on, it is a good read. Better than the manhwa. You end up hating EVEYONE that is forced to follow the original plot. But that's the cactch: the people controle by the OG story are awful because you can notice how the OG author is an imature and cliché person. The OG plot doesn't allow anyone... more>> to be more than an unidimensional character, so the reader feel angry and frustratd very often. The OG characters are bad constructed, tacky even. But as soon as Edith starts changing the plot, it feels delightful! The characters that are free from the OG stroy control are awesome. They are funny, different between themselves, with peculiar tastes, preferences and backstories. Edith is also a strong willed and funny person. Her way of going through life is refreshing considering other stories of the same genre.

There are a lot of clichés, but they are well aplied and there is a good dose of author knowledge about the use and humor. I did read 120 chapters in 20 hours because that's this kind of stuff. <<less

The story itself has a very interesting and unique plot which is what got me to read it in the first place. However, it gets frustrating as you follow along the FL and all the injustices done to her until almost the end. Of course, there’s an explanation for all this yet the ending was anti-climatic, unfulfilling and boring to say the least.

I loved Edith, she is an intelligent MC, but she also has some sort of innocence and good-natured heart, which makes it easy to relate to her. And Killian really is a good ML, at some moments he acted s*upidly, but with the pass of time, at his own way, he started to fall for Edith, and taking care of her; even if they had a rocky relationship in the beginning, both of them learned to communicate with each other their feelings and their experiences, I believe that this very... more>> one factor made me love their beautiful relationship

Overall it was a really enjoyable story to pass the time, it made me feel anxious, happy, irritation and even sadness. I highly recommend it, you won't think that you wasted time reading this remarkable novel. <<less

If you like novels like "How to Get My Husband on My Side/How to Win My Husband Over", this novel is for you.

There are two translators here, but one of them seems to be using MTL, so I suggest on reading it on guava.

This novel, albeit similar to the novel above in some way, but it had a different twist/trope in it, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The whole plot had me in suspense and kept me guessing who is the "antagonist" here. Pacing is good, not too draggy and not... more>> too fast too.

Although it's R-15, the "implied scenes" were certainly more.. Implied and detailed? But not as detailed for it to be R-18/R-19. I find that it is actually a really good amount of spice (although I wished more haha)

I also liked how in the side stories, we were able to get closure for all the main characters. (Although I did wonder what happened to the Sinclairs but I guess they're not important enough here). In the side stories as well, we are able to read everything from perspective of the "antagonist" here. Although I mostly speedread through it because I couldn't care less. <<less

Silently screaming inside my heart because I love this novel so so much!!!

It was an emotional ride through. At first I didn't even realize that this was a novel with tragedy tag, it made me cried so so much. I think it was really well written that I could even feel the pain just from reading through the words. Honestly, this novel even got me stayed awake all night through around 6 am in the morning bc I can't stop reading about this. I was just too curious about the... more>> story to stop reading in the middle, really. Totally recommended.

Accidentally found this novel one day and since it was completed, I decided to read this on a whim, but it was totally a gem in my opinion. Feeling super grateful for the author and the translation team for this novel. Thank you so much for writing and translating till the end.. <<less

Thinking this is a common isekai novel, I got hook with this one. I like the characters, Edith being wise and Killian whom later had loose the grip from the author's manipulation loves his wife dearly. The plot is good too and was happy that Edith overcomes the three condition which led her to being the main character that she is. I recommend this one, and I would like to thank the two person who's translating this novel, grateful for your efforts.

This reminded me so much of death is the only ending for the villainess but I prefer this one much more. I like how Edith stayed through to her character as good-natured and forgiving even after the ending. To be honest, at first I was quite dissatisfied with its ending before I felt like Lizé wasn't punished even after all of her misdeeds. But after reading the side story, I felt more satisfied although Edith still remained pure and didn't even seek retribution. I really did hope she had even... more>> the slightest bit of grudge because Lizé got away with everything too easily and her punishment is too light.

Side Story (actual ending) :

Spoiler

But I'm glad Lizé was no longer a part of the Ludwigs and was banished. She was no longer adored by the Duke and Duchess. Cliff grew restless with her attitude. Her marriage with Cliff was annulled and the latter was able to move on from her and fell in love again with another person who became the duchess. Also, Edith didn't get her hands dirty even in the side story like a true pure female protagonist (which I despise most of the time because I like my protagonist to be flawed and petty and seek retribution) and she saved Lizé. She's too nice and forgiving as if like a saint. Killian and Edith also had a family and Ryzen was apparently becoming successful so it was all good karma in the end.

It is a refreshing concept in the currently crowded isekai flood. I liked the down to Earth and mature approach that Edith had about the whole thing, specially how she decided to live her life, focus on Killian and leave her in laws and the villain where they should be, eating dust in the distance while she is off enjoying her marriage with her hot husband.

Yes, Killian can get frustrating and hurtful in the begining but for a character that was pretty much a puppet in the villains grasp, he... more>> did put the effort to slowly get out of the influence and see the real Edith, then to learn to love and treasure her. <<less
