I Will Fulfill the Role of the Villain

The protagonist of a war fantasy novel, Theo, competes with his rival and antagonist, Luke, for the position of Supreme Commander.

Having been reincarnated into Luke’s role, he struggles to fulfill his duties as the villain.

“It seems like principles as a soldier, the duties I should uphold, don’t matter to you at all.”

Even if misunderstood by Theo, Luke silently remained faithful to his role as the antagonist.

After completing all his duties, Luke successfully gave Theo his happy ending, cast aside his military uniform, and retired from the army.

Now, Luke planned to create his own future story without interference from anyone.

That was the plan, at least…

“Why go this far? I’m no longer a soldier, and if you really think about it, we were never on good terms anyway.”

To make matters worse, not only had he unexpectedly reunited with Theo, but now, Theo was persistently and seriously pressing him in a way he hadn’t imagined.

“I want to know you better.”

It was a completely incomprehensible statement, and it wasn’t even an appropriate answer to the question.

The protagonist came to the antagonist and suddenly asked for help, simply because they wanted to know him better?

That gorgeous cover and clickbait title scammed me. That's not to say the story's bad; it's ok for a light read. But it's not what I thought I was signing up for. First, to call Luke a villain is... a gross exaggeration; at worst, he's a difficult, unpredictable coworker, and at best, he's a shonen-style frenemy. The title makes it seem like it'll be about a Villain committing dastardly Villainous acts for the greater good, but nah, Luke quits his post as a Captain very early on and thus isn't... more>> in 'opposition' to the ML anymore (insofar as we can even call being a fellow Captain opposition in the first place). He's never been a villain and he never really behaved in a villainous way; the worst he did was a bit of reckless but helpful insubordination and running his sassy little mouth off. Some readers have criticized Luke's downgrade to a damsel, but personally, I didn't think it was that bad and Luke is still perfectly capable, intelligent, and fun, even if we do get the occasional flowery description of his beauty lmao. Let the man be pretty and appreciated for it, damnit! I have no issues with that.

The cover suggests enemies-to-lovers energy and high tension, but surprisingly it's pretty saccharine. The political stakes for the story, while technically high, don't really harmonize with the almost childish romance. There are obvious cliche setups for shojo-style romantic scenes that feel out of place in a story set in the imperial military, like 'oooh, there's only one bed' or 'oooh, your hand is injured~ guess I'll have to wash you', or 'oh no, you're too drunk and being unwittingly sexy'. For two grown men well into their career and at the top of the military hierarchy, I'm just saying... this... requires heavy suspension of disbelief. The couple is giving real 'first-boyfriend-in-high-school' vibes - which, while cute, is tonally inconsistent with the established setting/characters. That's my biggest gripe. But they're genuinely sweet together and I like their dynamic; it's just not really what I expect from this setup. When the Welharune section started, I was intrigued because it felt like 'oh, finally, some actual stakes!' but there's this... cheesiness in the way everything is wrapped up. For example, the dialogue between Theo and the real villain reads as so corny, I can't take it seriously even if there are stakes for the in-universe characters.

It's fine for an unserious read, if you're into stoic but sweet male leads and a sassy and competent MC. There's light chasing, some regret to spice things up, a few action scenes for fun... The overall 'plot' of uncovering a scheme against the nation is pretty lackluster so I can't recommend it for that, but when the MC and ML are together, they're cute so long as I forget they're grown men acting like that. <<less

In progress review at ch 58 but I was really angry and I had to get it off. Will update if I finish or if I end up dropping it

But tl;dr: its a wife chasing novel but ML has absolutely zero empathy skills and cannot even think why MC would be happy in a place away from him/the military and wants to drag him back while MC just wants to garden in peace and bury his unbloomed feelings in peace

Story premise: 4/5

... more>> MC: 5/5

ML and attempts at romance: -100000/5

I'm quite angry at how Luke (mc) has finally found a bit of inner peace even if there's the seeds of romance and regret in there but ML just goes into forceful look at me remember me and barges into his life looking into every single rumor of MC and doesn't let him be happy alone. Like, okay he's introduced as a no-nonsense rational military leader but he's practically pulling the pigtails of MC so that Luke can pay him attention even when Luke has already said he doesn't want anything to do with military life anymore and is actively threatened with an investigation of the nameless mercenary work he did so that ML has an excuse to spend time and "learn more about him"

It's very tasteless and I want to punt ML very very far away from Luke and I'm considering it dropping very soon depending on how forceful "pay me attention!!! -Pulls on your hair- ML ends up being.

Oh also very angry at author Luke "suddenly" is very powerless and gets pushed to the ground by the drunk lecher and has to get rescued by ML. Luke WAS the special forces commander and you spent like 10 chapters before of characters with triple the workload mourning that they didn't know how actually useful and how much work he did. Cmon, at least have some realism in inserting your cliché tropes!!!!! <<less

Very interesting story!! The premise is easy to follow. A story wherein a transmigrator tries to fulfill his role as the antagonist to the main character of the novel. Although, Luke (MC) tried to stay true to his character, the genre seemed to changed once he achieved his goal. After several confrontations between Luke and Theo (ML), the latter seemed to grow curious and fond of the MC. Both are pretty slow and clueless on the love aspect but you will find the development at later chapters. This is a... more>> slow-burn romance so don't expect too much lovey-dovey moments. The plot is military-based wherein several conspiracies and conflicts will arise. At first, it is pretty off-putting as some of these conflicts are only faced by Luke on his own. But this is where he shines and tries to solve them portraying his wits and strong demeanour. On later chapters, Theo soon discovers Luke's true nature. The guy is pretty smitten with love for our MC. He is also reliable and what one may call a green-flag. As Luke is pretty much an outcast and a lone wolf from his military peers, this later changes and you will see how Theo and the others perceive Luke on a different light coming as more of a reliable, kind-hearted and sympathetic person.

Please don't be discouraged by some of the reviews. We are all diverse readers who have different reading levels, views and interests but I do recommend you give it a try^^ It is pretty easy to binge-read as the translation is also excellent. ✨ <<less

RECOMMENDED!!!

The story starts out slow but it does develop the story's setting quite nicely. This novel does remind me a bit of Tanya the Evil, with the military and all. But these two stories are not the same though ^^

The protagonist is super mysterious and he's also so cool! He's definitely a complex character that might have the most depressing and interesting backstory in the story. Luke is definitely my favorite character so far.

The male lead is written to be a normal person for once! He doesn't immediately fall in... more>> love with the protagonist but instead their dynamic resembles the Rivals to Lovers trope. I like seeing Theo's POV since it's quite funny.

The side characters are pretty believable and I like them so far. I do wish an important female character would be introduced soon, so we can get more insight into how this world works. Considering the fact that women can enter the military in this novel.

Thank you so much, Translators! 💛✨ <<less

The main character starts off pretty strong. He's cool, unpredictable, and almost unbeatable. However I dropped it as he starts getting weaker, more s*upid, and less impressive in comparison to the love interest. I don't want to read a story where the MC becomes a damsel. It's so lazy for the author to contribute to this plague of a trope.

This started off really interesting, I loved the premise and the MC and I was looking forward to seeing the development of his relationship with the ML after he leaves the military. But as the story went on somehow MC becomes so much ditzier and plays into all the BL tropes of being weaker and less intelligent and needing to be saved by ML over and over, even though they'd been they'd been seen as equals until then. I found myself very frustrated by the plot-imposed long-term restriction on his... more>> strength which felt entirely intended to make him rely on ML. And it just became incredibly boring to me because his character felt so different to what I grew invested in and reading new chapters was frustrating instead of fun.

Maybe I'll give this another go once the story's progressed some more to see where things end up, but for now this feels like just another bland cliche with a cute, dumb MC and his strong, protective ML. Don't get me wrong, I'll absolutely indulge in the trope-iest of stories when the mood strikes me but I like to know what I'm in for. This story was made much more disappointing by how much I enjoyed the start when MC came across sharp and more than capable of taking care of things himself, even if he was playing the role of a villain I wasn't expecting the more interesting parts of his character to disappear once he stopped.

Spoiler

In fact a lot of his supposed villainous actions are just misconstrued to paint him in a bad light, made worse by him playing into the role with his attitude. My hope when I started reading was to see other characters eventually have that realisation without significant change to the core of his own character after he dropped the act.

Tldr: I feel like I should've expected this from the cover art <<less

Frankly this is the problem with many authors.

!!!CONTAINS SPOILERS AND RANTS!!!

READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

This is a biased Review!

1st half (60 chapters)

Spoiler

MC starts off almost equal to ML, a rival.

But when he leaves the military and meets ML, he gets manipulated within 10 sentences. ML acts righteous but resorts to threatening MC. MC being a commoner really didn't want to make his life uncomfortable. So I get that he goes with the flow, but MC could definitely have done something about it instead of being led by the thumb. Seriously within 2 chapters of meeting ML everything was agreed on, there was no thrill or tension. I would have liked it if the author had made ML actually work hard for it, instead of using MC so easily. The more I read, the more I get frustrated. It would have been fine if ML was actually a good person. He is stoic and a man of few words who goes by the protocol. Where does he get to act righteous when he is clearly threatening a Civillian MC. MC living comfortable life, gets pulled into the madness of military because ML feels uncomfortable with MC's absence.

In the chapters of MC leaving the military and after meeting ML. He gets pushed by 2 common men!!

Like really?! Are you saying this is just because MC has stopped training for 8 months, but is still able to hunt high ranking monsters.

One was the village chiefs son, he accidentally gets pushed by his body weight and falls. Okay!! Let's say he got startled, then ML enters, gets angry, pulls the man away, then asks MC if he is having a lover.

2nd when MC is exhausted, he collides with a person in the crowd almost falling. But ML pulls him over and asks him to hold his robe to not lose way!

I mean... rolls eyes

Can the author please write a strong shou without him having to always be behind ML. I can definitely sense that MC got everything through his hard work. His body, height, muscle isn't as high as ML. So I can sense that after he stopped training that the gap between them will further continue to widen. But not to the point where walking around normal commoners need ML's help for MC.

And there is an issue about the banter as well. In the beginning of the story, both MC and ML were on each other's throats. Sometimes one wins and the other times, the other one wins. Even if MC loses, it was due to his position of being in military where he had to follow orders.

After MC meets ML he gets manipulated easily by ML. ML who is known for righteousness even threatens MC. MC being a curious kid and thinking it would be more problematic of surveillance agrees. It was agreed that MC is extremely smart to equal ML or second to ML. But he gets used around very easily. The problem isn't the outcome, since it was decided that for the progress of the plot both definitely had to go together. The problem was the execution!! There was not much banter or thrill. It was done as easily as in 10 sentence and within 2 chapters. There was no mystery, no jabs, no highs or lows for conversation. ML took MC as easy as kidnapping a child with a candy!!

The third problem, ML's over righteousness!!! MC does get into verbal spats, talks down to others, doesn't like carrying dead weight of his soldiers. But he does duty well. What's wrong with a commoner wanting to be at a high position. Does being in 2nd place all throughout life, takeaway a person to never be first place or dream about it. The soldiers constantly break protocols and talk sh*t about him. Everyone knows but does nothing. He saved them so many times. But just because they act in groups and hyena who know to chummy others, and are jealous. He deserves it?!

In more than 5 years of military did no one realize that he has saved their ass all the time. He has never ab*sed his authority. Never gave them orders that put them in danger, or do something illegal. Where did they have the audacity to judge MC? Where is he a villain? They themselves are parts of the hundreds, but they have the audacity to have an opinion on number 2 rank in military?! They can't get themselves higher but use ML as a pedestal and try to be under his ship, and justify their s*upid bullying behavior. That Miles character is the worst. Is he even a Military captain? He can get away with buying soldiers and tripping others, but still behaves righteous? Disgusting filth!!

Ml is even worst, why did he say that he is disappointed in MC. You can't sort out the entire situation. You put sh*t in your mouth when speaking?! Just because MC said something without even glancing a second thought you put the blame on him? He uses his position and high authority all the time like this. He doesn't protect or stop the rumors and bad mouthing and goes along the flow! I thought maybe because the words of soldiers shouldn't be controlled too much, he turned a blind eye. But then I realized that he himself actually holds those beliefs!!

And people blame MC for not speaking out! MC is playing a villain role according to his own choice, so he deserves it! But frankly if everyone is a good character as they say they are. Then they should understand the weight MC carries in his missions. The work he excels, the number of lives he saved. Does him leaving the military made them realize his importance. No! it was the burden which he was carrying all along on his shoulders that fell on them now, it made them wake up from their slumber. If MC had actually stayed in Military, they would have bullied him so bad. If there was an actual person who didn't know the situation and with pride and little EQ, either he would have killed himself or cause a coup de et. Then they would even use their righteous words as stones and stone the villain to death! It reminds me of the saying:

It's not that life has been too easy for you, it's just that someone was carrying all your burden for you!

MC is too kind for his own good. I don't even like the Fael guy, he was ready to kill the N number of soldiers to keep his mother alive. Kill his superior officer and get him loose all his hard work. If successful he would have said, anyway the MC was always bad, I have slain the evil dragon. No guilt from me.

I didn't like the goody too shoes attitude of MC. He should have just played the villain and brought the truth to light. Maybe that's me who is ruthless. But frankly people who switch sides like that, have never been to my 'good guy' list! Albiet MC turns the situation around, and that guy becomes one of the most loyal people. But I just don't like him.

I can understand the MC's pov

I can understand the ML's pov.

But MC is like my baby, all his wrongs are circumstances to me, all his rights are glorified!!!

I am like MC's friend, who sees MC in a bad situation, gets led by the nose. Love him and hate him for his personality and character. And want to shake the hell out of his shoulders, asking his why?!! Why go through so much trouble?? That shitty ML is not worth it. Those back stabbing subordinates aren't worth it! Those other captains aren't worth it. Just live your life in peace and for yourself. Don't get carried away by the novel plot. Wake up! Wake up, please live peacefully without having to deal with the buzzing mosquito ML!

And if he was anyway gonna work for the military and with ML at the end, why even quit his high ranking position. He doesn't get money from monsters slayed, gets blackmailed instead.

Loses position of captain, demoted to a commoner.

Didn't want to be bossed around by the ML. Only to end up in a position where he can't even say No, since he is just a commoner now. Having absolutely no authority and defense

Of course I know this is not because he is doing it voluntarily. It's involuntary reaction of MC to try to be close to the ML. In those entire world without a family, MC's goal was success of ML. Now in an unknown world without anyone close by, he gets his sense of security by being close to ML involuntarily. Cause he knows no one there and has no emotional ties with others. Except for the ML. For the past 5 to 7 years his only goal was ML. Now he is willing to be led by ML for that sense of his worth, unconsciously and slowly the thread keeps pulling him

And ML isn't as bad as I described in the novel. He is amazing in his own sense. But in the review I just described his bad points. Of course he is the ML, he has his own plus points and he did many things for the MC and for his good.

[collapse]

But my fingers hurt while typing this long review... And he is not worth for me to write few more sentences.

If you wanna know, you can just read the novel!

As for the rating, you can see above. Since I liked this novel, despite the frustrating cliche aspect of it!

2nd Half 61-113:

Spoiler

The ML redeems himself!! Theo I love you!! You take everything step by step, first he understood his own feelings and seeing how MC is dense, he became vocal about it. Through little actions, little words, little compliments, he swoons MC over. He gives MC to understand his own feelings and never rushes. Learns to understand and respect MC even more.

I say this man is already head over heels. He keeps gazing and getting lost in MC. Every little action of MC is turned into something cute or sexy by him.

This man has a seperate filter for his own man!!! He even uses his authority to address the wrongdoings of the men of army and does his best to protect MC and gives him his well earned respect. Of course the major part of the change of opinion is because of MC himself. He doesn't act like a villain anymore and doesn't do any villainous shit. He let's go of his uninhibited self and people just love MC and people respect him on his own. Of course, it is also because the soldiers realise how much the MC carried the team out!!

I just love how the author actually wrote a slow burn which isn't just a name say slow burn but every step makes a little progress. Every conversation holds it's place and brings them together.

I have read many slow burns, but the one where both the leads balance each other in terms of talent, respect, position, mutual pining is very rare!! So adorable. I am glad that I got through the ugly part, that's why the second half felt even sweet!!

LOVE THIS NOVEL!!! Luke and Theo are such a cute couple—I'm absolutely obsessed with Luke! I've always been a sucker for transmigration stories, especially when they feature a clever and capable villain-type shou/soo. And this one hits the spot.

I don't know what some readers are on about, calling Luke weak or a damsel?! Like, seriously—fight me!! /J

Yes, the story leans into a few cliché or tropey moments, but come on, my boy Luke deserves better than being dragged by readers who can't see past outdated stereotypes. He's already been through... more>> enough dealing with the hot mess that is the military in this story (cough Mile, I'm looking at you).

Is it the most groundbreaking plot or world-building out there? Not really. But it has charm, and that counts for a lot. The relationship progression is slowwww—I think I've only seen 2 or 3 R18+ chapters so far—but it's a sweet kind of slow burn. Don't expect too much steam or heavy romance, but if you're in the mood for something light, cute, and just a little bit spicy, it's definitely worth a read.

I binged it in a few days and honestly? Zero regrets! <<less

if your looking for an action heavy military novel with tons of conflict with expansive world building this is NOT it..

but!! If your looking for a lovely romance with our MC (luke) and ML (theo) whose very possessive (not overbearing, , still a green flag, though he does have some questionable moments) then you won't be disappointed!

the MC is very lovable; smart, strong, and kind, although he is denser than a diamond. He's an excellent narrator and he's very funny. While the ML is also quite likable, strong, and he's... more>> obsessed with our MC. He's always had a fixation on our MC and never treated him negativity like the others. the plots not very conflict/action heavy (ahem, Bermuda (excellent novel similar to this PLEASE read it)) but rather it's almost like a character study? Anyways one of the thing I adore about this novel is how realistic the characters are, , they don't fall in love easily (actually 100 chps in and they've JUST realized). Additionally the way side characters treat the MC is very infuriating but also makes sense in a way?? He constantly acts arrogant, rude, etc etc (dw, it's ALL AN ACT) so all the characters don't like him, , it's pretty refreshing and realistic imo. anyways just read it!! The translation is very fast and accurate and it's literally caught up to the novel, , very good read if you're looking for a power couple!!

Although I got hard baited bc 116 chps in and there's NO R-18 SCENES?? I loike through the KR Raws too and as of chp116, there's no smut even though it was tagged 🤕🤕 <<less

Great read if you want magic, military and the historical/medieval times

Spoiler

I'm also loving this arc when MC runs away and ML chases behind. I can't help but love it when MC's go through with their decision of obtaining the life they want, just like Luke. I love the dynamic of how he went from acting as his arrogant commander self to his kind self after retiring. Can't wait for the reveal when everyone, and cough ML, learns that Luke isn't the villain facade he puts up, but just a kind soul that actually helps everyone behind his harsh actions.🤭

I really like the book. It was kind of frustrating in the beginning because of what the MC had to go through.

I saw someone mention in the comments, after Luke was told by Theo that he was disappointed in him (I'm still not sure why Theo felt comfortable saying this instead of just saying he expected that out of him or only reprimanding him. This specific wording makes it seem as if they're close when they're not) And Luke is rightfully annoyed. He's hurt as well because he was misunderstood... more>> but he also understands it's because of how he's portrayed himself so he doesn't lash out.

The commenter goes on to say "what else did you expect. There are other ways to be his rival. You should've seen it coming." Essentially saying he deserved it.

Which makes no sense. Theo doesn't even know Luke so to say "I'm disappointed in you" just comes off as overstepping, as if he's convinced himself into thinking Luke should care what he thinks. In fact, if he felt disappointed, I'm not sure why he felt the need to voice it in that situation.

It seems some people are confused. Some readers find Luke frustrating? Did they not read the beginning of the book or are we now all so brain fried? He's assumed a role he thinks he needs to fulfill. In his head, things need to stay on track so he can safely predict his retirement. In his mind, the story needs to go the way he knows it so that he knows his future of retiring is set in stone. Yeah, he's not acting the way you guys want so now you're upset. If you want a nice, perfect MC there's plenty of Mary Sue in the BL section. That commenter would fit right in as one of the gossiping and unprofessional soldiers lol.

Luke isn't even really a villain. At most, an antagonist and not even that much of one. He gets his job done as the captain of the special forces.

It was like the stories characters hive mentality also affected a few readers cause some of them weren't making any sense.

Every character in the beginning other than one of the higher ups who they described as softhearted, had this weird film over their eyes. Yeah, Luke wasn't likeable, at most.

But what about it? Is being likeable one of the requirements to be a captain in the military? I was confused why people agree that he deserved the crap treatment he got.

Because let's say he wasn't acting and this was his real personality. It's highly unprofessional how the characters (soldiers and captains) were acting and the fact that the commenter agreed makes me think they'd be just like them, unable to form a cohesive and critical thought of their own.

What people are frustrated with is the fact that they can't read a romance because Luke isn't making it easy for them to see a romance come into play. They're frustrated because of the treatment Luke is getting but instead of pointing at the perpetrators, they're pointing at the victim.

Because honestly, I can't think of one actual thing that Luke did that even made him deserving of the treatment he got. Sure, judging him as someone who's more likely to do something bad or being more suspicious of him makes sense, but the prolonged and unprofessional treatment (low-key highschool level bullying) was just confusing. As well as the readers who were frustrated with HIM and not the ones treating him that way.

I also find it funny that when Theo was overstepping boundaries and using his position as commander to pressure Luke who's a regular civilian, no one had a problem with that (except for like one person in the comments. The same energy the other commenters gave Luke was not at all given to Theo). It seems people don't have a problem with annoying actions when it comes to something involving romance.

Theo quite literally said, "I want to get to know you." When Luke asked why he was abusing his power. In what world would that ever be a reasonable response? Theo also said he would blackmail Luke if he didn't do what he asked. But only one comment calling it out on the translation website compared to how many were disliking Luke (when it's literally explained why he acts like he does), because people crave romance so much they like the possibility of them getting closer even if it means the MC had no choice in it. If you want romance THAT badly, that you're letting it cloud any sort of critical assessment of a character and blindly getting enraged, just go read another book. It's not that hard.

Luke for the majority, as well as Fael and Roena, were what got me through the first chunk of the book. <<less

For plot and background setting, they seem to be jumping all over the storyline. Explanation of the world map and the world system are usually being written in the beginning, right?

For how the story is being written, compared to other, I find it enjoyable. I often find other Korean story with unclear point of view. In one sentence, it is the... more>> first person then the next one turns into third person.

While ML and the friends like Leo and Fael have steadily character development... In the latest chapter, I feel MC has lost his personality. I know everything that he did because he is a villain at the time... But that doesn't mean he lost his habit so suddenly in acting as villain (smart but unpredictable, unkind, unfriendly, untrusted, and disobedient person). In one night, he turns into a tsundere and a little dumb. Too bad, his character in the beginning is what made me interested... <<less

Same opinion as a few other reviewers with 3 stars, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the premise of the story. The start was so strong, the MC Luke was great, he was snarky, provocative, reckless, confident and everything you'd expect for someone playing the villain role. But after? Well...

When he leaves the military, I was a little apprehensive since I wondered how the story/plot would go, and hoped it would go in a satisfying way where the plot is still relevant (which it is), however, the protagonist, Luke, unfortunately falls short... more>> of standards afterwards.

I understand that the villainous persona he portrayed in the military is not his true self. However, after acting the part for so long, it should still be difficult to revert back to your old self, as acting as someone you're not for a really long time will, one way or another, affect you to a degree (great examples include Jack from Pandora Hearts and Furina from Genshin Impact, if you've ever watched or played them), and it'd be nice to hear debates about this but the novel doesn't explicitly say when Luke joined the army and how long he's kept this act up so eh.

I began really despising how weak and sloppy he became as a person after leaving the military, and how the ML just sorta... idk, sees his appearance in a romantic way (which is fine) but something about it just feels off putting and I can't quite put my finger on it. Anyways, the more I read, the more I realised that it's probably the author, because I assumed Luke was a smart person but in reality... I don't think that's the case at all. But mostly, I don't like how sloppy he is around the ML and the forced proximity (okay, I think I found the issue now) just feels wrong to me, like it wasn't done right. But it makes sense if the author couldn't think of a better way to force the MC and ML to interact with each other and develop a romance considering their positions would genuinely make it difficult for them to ever meet again (recently retired soldier x new commander) sounds very hard to write without a plot connecting them together, which fortunately, works in this case. I think I probably also know why I don't like the romance as much as I thought I would, and this is mainly due to the fact that I thought the romance would be something like enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers, but instead it's more like both sides don't hate/dislike each other at all. However, Luke actively showed that he didn't like Theo (and honestly I'd say antagonised but he doesn't do anything to sabotage Theo) while he was in the military and one thing I hated was that Theo and Luke's interactions during the military weren't fleshed out enough which ends up falling flat when we get Theo's thoughts about how different Luke is now compared to the past, we have to rely on the fact that we're told Luke and Theo don't get along (in Luke's 3 rd person perspective) and make up scenes ourselves about their 'clashings' as rival colleagues.

Overall, strong start being extremely entertaining, middle was mildly entertaining with a bit of wonder on what would happen and then when you hit around 100, you begin to lose interest for some reason without being able to pinpoint it for a while until it hits you. My main issue was MC becoming a weakling (I hate the trope where whenever the MC is strong at the start, the author always has to find ways to "weaken" or put "limitations' on their power, and I really hoped it wouldn't happen to Luke, but it did, and that's probably what triggered me to lose interest the most out of everything) and maybe MC and ML's relationship development I guess. The plot is still highly interesting tho and I do want to see where it goes, but with Luke handicapped like this and probably, for a long time, will need to rely on the ML, turns me off the story highly so unfortunately, I can't give this novel a rating higher than a 3. <<less

Personally, I found this story entertaining. The way side characters genuinely help Theo and Luke grow as characters. In addtion, the author writes in a way that really makes you visualize what youre reading.

And Luke finally understood. This feeling, this overwhelming surge that couldn't be put into words — this was what people called love. The culmination of something deeper than affection, something unshakable and undeniable. Just then, Luke slowly opened his eyes. In the darkness, his irises looked like a deep, warm brown as they fixed on Theo. Luke said nothing for a while, just stared at him. His persistent gaze felt like it carried a will of its own, as though he was trying to etch something into Theo's soul through his eyes

Luke blinked, caught off guard by the unfamiliar, shadowy desire stirring deep inside him. He never thought he'd experience anything like this — lust, arousal, that kind of raw, physical want. He'd assumed he'd live his whole life without it. But clearly, he was wrong. Heat seeped under Luke's clothes as Theo's rough hand slid against his bare skin. The contrast between Theo's calloused palm and Luke's soft flesh sent a shiver down his spine. Every place Theo touched burned, stinging and smoldering like fire — but Luke didn't want it to stop. He welcomed the sensation, relishing the reality of Theo's touch, the undeniable proof that they were connected.

like damn 😭😭😭 it really got mw reading late at night with how genuine the characters fell inlove.

But this does not mean that the novel was a masterpiece—clearly not. It fell short in its world building especially with how Welharune got introduced in the end. The supposed "villains" felt flat in comparison to the main characters. Midway, you'd forget this was a transmigration story as the author didnt bother to mention MC's life prior to trasmigrating and failed to utilize how Luke could've contributed to the story by using his knowledge.

In the end, I fell inlove with Luke as a character—someone who wholeheartedly dedicated everything he had. It may not be the best of the best but I'd like readers to give it a try.

I got through about half of the novel, but there was a shift in how the MC was portrayed in reader's and ML's perspective. Of course, it's not a problem to be pretty and have a small waist, but I feel like it was emphasized and mentioned more often ... more>>

I was enjoying how strong-willed and powerful the MC is, and his "mean" but kind personality. In the beginning, MC and ML spars on equal terms, which I adored, but later, MC was constantly saved by ML. It was rather sad how MC got nerfed so much.

ML is a green flag, the perfect man to lead and all that. Not gonna lie, he was like cardboard with a backstory. His character doesn't invoke emotions.

For the first half of the novel, there was some plot and I dropped it just as the plot was picking up since I couldn't stand MC's new portrayal, which was a pity. The plot is pretty standard, with the story set in the military for the first half.

I do recommend this novel. I read through half of it in a day. <<less

Looks promising! It's interesting! I'm not a fan of some serious military background plot. Such a dizzy topic. But this one is very ok because it's not so deep explore about strategy war thingy, more about the main cp development and their conflict, plus the problem in work that can lead to war or peace of course. Some Fantasy Spice like magic, monster and medieval empire thingy make this story more edible for someone like me. I really love to see the main cp developt their feeling, despite in the... more>> love and hate situation. I like how the MC looks so tough but still softie, and how the ML slowly try to understand MC and himself. Waiting for the burn stage and more clear plot. <<less

The premise is great, I love the MC and ML’s especially the breaking points in their relationships and how it changed both (mostly ML) of their attitudes. Tbh from plot and how truly enjoyable this story was, I rate it 3.5 would’ve rated it 4.3 but then I can’t help but think of how the author massively nerfed MC’s character... here I thought i’d read a badass MC and HE IS well at the beginning lol. after that he just turned into someone who was conveniently saved by the ML... more>> or who vulnerable or weak to the ML and I hated that.

The MC is still a very badass person to the others in the story but to us the readers, he just got nerfed and I get that it makes the MC more human but it distasteful how his humanity just became a tool to boost to the ML’s... awesomeness?

Meanwhile, the ML is kinda typical ngl. he does what an ML does and I expected more humanity, struggle and frustration (?) from him ig. But he is very green flag and fun to read.

Another thing that took some points on the rating is that the plot point of the MC’s misunderstood “villain” character didn’t exactly stick. I didn’t feel bad of angsty for the MC so its really sad that the author couldn’t bring out the emotions for that one, I mean its a real good cliche that I particularly enjoy so it was disappointing to see it fail here (or maybe it hasn’t failed, i’ll review again when I finish reading this)

Overall I do recommend this story. Its a real page turner, I didn’t even realize I was at the 100+ chapters lol. If I were to change anything I wished the MC remained badass even to the reader like a badass with struggles are more endearing to read and also the angst of his misunderstood “villain” character but it was a fun read. <<less

I really enjoyed this one!

It ended a little abruptly but I'm overall happy with it. I don't know if there will ever be any side stories but that would be nice. It's completed as of Ch. 181.

The MC is strong, the ML is a green flag and there's no relationship drama.

First of all, I would say it is a great novel not the best but definitely an okay read for those who're bored and look for something to read. Aside from that, as a Korean transmigration novel lover, there were some issues for which I believe it is not one of the best novels I have read:

1st issue: I think the beginning or rather everything about the start of the plot seems weird. For me, imagining I am the transmigrator learning that I am the villain in a story I... more>> read before, I don't think I would try to act as the villain I mean it is not like there is any system or whatsoever forcing the MC to act as the villain so it is rather absurd that he willingly takes over the role so I don't think it is realistic at all.

2nd issue: the MC being one of the best soldiers of the Empire just started to act too weak for my tastes. It was a bit like cliche BL tropes we have been encountering all the time.

3rd issue: I think the background story&plot of/with the empire is a bit lacking and not too captivating. I believe it could have been more interesting for me it felt lacking

Cant think of anything else for now. Overall great for spending time but I couldn't get fully invested into it but still recommended for an ok read. <<less

The premise is interesting but the writing is meh that sometimes I got second-hand embarassment fron reading them. The author writes like junior high wattpad writer. Also, idk if it's the translation or if it's originaly has really stiff dialogue.

The most important thing is I was really interested in the intrigue and political aspects of the story, but the things that come out of the characters mouths are something a 4th grader will spout, like when you expect a character to be oh so clever in his strategies and ideas... more>> but they turn out to be most basic thing ever <<less
