The protagonist of a war fantasy novel, Theo, competes with his rival and antagonist, Luke, for the position of Supreme Commander.

Having been reincarnated into Luke’s role, he struggles to fulfill his duties as the villain.

“It seems like principles as a soldier, the duties I should uphold, don’t matter to you at all.”

Even if misunderstood by Theo, Luke silently remained faithful to his role as the antagonist.

After completing all his duties, Luke successfully gave Theo his happy ending, cast aside his military uniform, and retired from the army.

Now, Luke planned to create his own future story without interference from anyone.

That was the plan, at least…

“Why go this far? I’m no longer a soldier, and if you really think about it, we were never on good terms anyway.”

To make matters worse, not only had he unexpectedly reunited with Theo, but now, Theo was persistently and seriously pressing him in a way he hadn’t imagined.

“I want to know you better.”

It was a completely incomprehensible statement, and it wasn’t even an appropriate answer to the question.

The protagonist came to the antagonist and suddenly asked for help, simply because they wanted to know him better?

I really enjoyed this one!

It ended a little abruptly but I'm overall happy with it. I don't know if there will ever be any side stories but that would be nice. It's completed as of Ch. 181.

The MC is strong, the ML is a green flag and there's no relationship drama.

First of all, I would say it is a great novel not the best but definitely an okay read for those who're bored and look for something to read. Aside from that, as a Korean transmigration novel lover, there were some issues for which I believe it is not one of the best novels I have read:

1st issue: I think the beginning or rather everything about the start of the plot seems weird. For me, imagining I am the transmigrator learning that I am the villain in a story I... more>> read before, I don't think I would try to act as the villain I mean it is not like there is any system or whatsoever forcing the MC to act as the villain so it is rather absurd that he willingly takes over the role so I don't think it is realistic at all.

2nd issue: the MC being one of the best soldiers of the Empire just started to act too weak for my tastes. It was a bit like cliche BL tropes we have been encountering all the time.

3rd issue: I think the background story&plot of/with the empire is a bit lacking and not too captivating. I believe it could have been more interesting for me it felt lacking

Cant think of anything else for now. Overall great for spending time but I couldn't get fully invested into it but still recommended for an ok read. <<less

The premise is interesting but the writing is meh that sometimes I got second-hand embarassment fron reading them. The author writes like junior high wattpad writer. Also, idk if it's the translation or if it's originaly has really stiff dialogue.

The most important thing is I was really interested in the intrigue and political aspects of the story, but the things that come out of the characters mouths are something a 4th grader will spout, like when you expect a character to be oh so clever in his strategies and ideas... more>> but they turn out to be most basic thing ever <<less

The premise is great, I love the MC and ML’s especially the breaking points in their relationships and how it changed both (mostly ML) of their attitudes. Tbh from plot and how truly enjoyable this story was, I rate it 3.5 would’ve rated it 4.3 but then I can’t help but think of how the author massively nerfed MC’s character... here I thought i’d read a badass MC and HE IS well at the beginning lol. after that he just turned into someone who was conveniently saved by the ML... more>> or who vulnerable or weak to the ML and I hated that.

The MC is still a very badass person to the others in the story but to us the readers, he just got nerfed and I get that it makes the MC more human but it distasteful how his humanity just became a tool to boost to the ML’s... awesomeness?

Meanwhile, the ML is kinda typical ngl. he does what an ML does and I expected more humanity, struggle and frustration (?) from him ig. But he is very green flag and fun to read.

Another thing that took some points on the rating is that the plot point of the MC’s misunderstood “villain” character didn’t exactly stick. I didn’t feel bad of angsty for the MC so its really sad that the author couldn’t bring out the emotions for that one, I mean its a real good cliche that I particularly enjoy so it was disappointing to see it fail here (or maybe it hasn’t failed, i’ll review again when I finish reading this)

Overall I do recommend this story. Its a real page turner, I didn’t even realize I was at the 100+ chapters lol. If I were to change anything I wished the MC remained badass even to the reader like a badass with struggles are more endearing to read and also the angst of his misunderstood “villain” character but it was a fun read. <<less

Personal rating 4.2 what can I say is that MC is in harsh way a dedicated chunnibyou but if u look deeper he just get coping mechanism to distracted himself from suddenly transmigration inside a novel (bcs he so obsessed about a complete ending for our ml, he became reckless and his life just one mission that's to make ML commender) if u not just read it but try to feel it u can grasp full essence of MC feeling about his life an so on, btw author way to... more>> make side char became MC emotional consultant is a good and satisfying way for me (bcs if MC not have it I really doubt he and ML will got together after so many chapter). Basically how author tale the story is not problem, but I need to remind you that author having forward and backward narration although is not make u feel jumbled but for someone who usually read forward narration it's make u a bit impatient (but don't worry it's not repeated something but essentially part that need to present for us reader). And finally my regret is that we can't see more oh them anymore, I actually hope for scene which MC and ML parents meet, how mc-ML life or maybe died or maybe something like transmigrate back to the modern omg... I'm so greedy hahahah. <<less

3 stars.

This is definitely one of those stories that teeters on the edge of whether you like it or not. This has the same pacing and serious tone of a young teenage high-school drama story. It's easy to read but when the setting is military based, I need more depth of seriousness from it.

I think what really made me stay was the MCs personality. He's bold and unafraid to speak his mind. When he makes a decision, he commits to it and takes the consequences for what they are. He's... more>> silly and his reactions to certain situations made me stay with this.

ML on the other hand has that level of introspection that keeps the romance plot interesting. I honestly think that if the author stayed with the romance plot and left the military side be, this would've been a more interesting story. The summary of this story even set it up to where the main focus would be the romance. The beginning was great and the slow burn would've and has burned so well. It was the military/political side that made this kind of dull in the end.

I honestly still would give this a try if you have nothing else to read. While it was a 'meh' story, I don't actually regret reading this especially when I wasn't in a specific mood for a particular genre. <<less

I really liked the beginning of the story, but it got to a point where it plummeted in quality. At times it felt cringy and unrealistic for these grown military adults to be saying some of the things they be saying.

I challenged myself to complete this novel and it was truly a chore for me. I found so many plot holes in one read alone that if I go back to find more, I fear there will be too many holes to count. I won’t mention them here, but I... more>> implore you to look for them if you decide to read this.

At some point, I got so used to the story beats that I somehow correctly guessed the entire ending of the story.

ok so there is one thing that bothered me the most about this story, and it involves the first intimate scene.
Spoiler

I have no idea why the author decided to write their characters like this, but their absurd desire to keep their adult characters innocent is so bizarre. First and foremost, Theo learned about gay s*x by overhearing some of his colleagues/classmates talk about it in public for some reason. And apparently these conversations were so intense amd detailed that he had to leave the room by the pure vulgarity of it. And then several years later, using only the half knowledge they gave him years ago, he perfectly preforms the acts with Luke. The author could have just had him read it in a book because they said he reads books or whatever. That makes more sense than vaguely hearing it. And now my criticism with Luke in this scene. What do you mean you agreed to doing something intimate with someone and you don’t even know what you are going to do? Thats not even consent because they literally said that Luke didn’t know what gay s*x was. Bro you can’t consent and be unaware. I know Luke is reckless but this is actually insane. Also Theo said he should get oil of some sort to make it more comfortable and less painful for Luke but he decided against it because he didn’t want to leave the room. How is brother a green flag? He knows more about this then Luke and yet he still isn’t taking responsibility?

Idk guys I was thinking about dropping it for good after this one but decided to push through. I get that it’s fantasy and doesn’t have to be realistic, but that scene was literally killing me I had to tell someone about how odd it is.

[collapse]

also it got kinda annoying with the amount of times Luke is described as handsome. We get it lmao

Other then that, there are some plot elements and scenes that were actually really interesting and kept me guessing, but that really was minimal.

i think I would recommend this to someone that doesn’t really read too deep into things.

If you like a light read that mainly focuses on the main characters and has decent plot, then this is for you. Otherwise I don’t recommend it unless you want an ulcer. <<less
