At the age of eighteen, Fu Zhen’s father brought an illegitimate daughter from outside.

The father and elder brother who loved him so much since childhood seemed to have changed from then on. For the sake of an illegitimate daughter, his elder brother rebuked him for being an inters*x monster. His father even drove him out of the house after breaking his leg.

In order to avoid offending the illegitimate daughter, Fu Zhen lived a miserable life in the outskirts of Pinghai city for two years. He had a hard life and after being secretly plotted, got drunk and slept with a strange man.

And he had just gotten accustomed to living this way.

One day, his father and elder brother came to his door, and he thought that they were going to drive him further away.

Instead, they told him that they regretted it.

Definitely enjoyed the first 60-100 chapters. It's my first time reading one of those stories where the system actually goes away and the consequences wreaking havoc on the world it left behind. It was definitely fun... for the first half.

The last drag on and not in a fun way:

Spoiler

A lot of the chapters past chapter 80 get filled up with talk about the MC's work and while it's not bad, it does certainly feel like it's just. There. And it probably is just there as a plot device. I think the first two introduced (the animated show he created and the movie for his father) were fine and fit well into the plot, everything else after just wasn't that interesting unfortunately. I think largely because they lacked personal connection to the plot/characters.

[collapse]

The next part of what made the the latter half a drag was:

Spoiler

The MC's father and brother. Not going to lie, I'm hella biased for familial relationships and such. When I read the summary, I was expecting some reconciliation or even a distant "I will not forgive you immediately, but I still want you (distantly) in my life".

The story does not immediately go in that direction, which is understandable given the absolute ab*se MC went through from his family. He was essentially the beloved pampered son and brother and then woke up to being treated like the spawn of satan just because a chick showed up on his front door, was crippled by his own father, and had some really REALLY bad insults hurled towards his person. I am not surprised by his attitude near the end.

However, I'm just sitting here looking at my screen like "Okay, but that wasn't their fault though, that's the system's, what the hell???" They, along with basically the entire world but MC and ML, were essentially brainwashed into giving all the love/common sense they had to the random chick #6 from hotel 69. It probably wouldn't be so bad if every other 1-2 chapters, there wasn't a cutaway to the family feeling sorry for themselves in time out while looking pitifully at MC+ML having fun in a kiddie pool. It happened a LOT. At some point, it just got repetitive.

I admit I highly sympathize with MC's family purely because??? They just?? Got brainwashed??? They don't even understand what the hell happened themselves. They, and many others, literally had their lives/relationships ruined by random chick and for some reason, the author though constantly showing their pity party while taunting us with how they'll never get it back.

[collapse]

It had a really interesting premise with the system breaking down, but... it feels like the author just didn't know what else to write for 20-40 chapters?? I think the plot got more interesting again after skipping 50 chapters, but it's a shame that I couldn't be hooked on it without skipping chapters.

Spoiler

The fact that the world exists in a novel is not really explored beyond the narration/translator notes or, later on, when the system actually comes back to pretty much torture random chick #6. While it does get noted occasionally how odd that the random chick seems to have had a FL halo around her, nothing beyond that was done about it. Which makes things feel... a bit incomplete? Like there's a collective haze that literally the world had been under for 2-3 years, but now that it's gone... no one??? is??? a bit confused on what the f*ck happened???? Or even makes a comment about it beyond just thinking to themselves "I'd look crazy if I told people that I was under mind control for 2 years" as if half the sh*t some of these characters have said or did wasn't already crazy.

The author also repeatedly shoots the thought of confronting this truth down, but it feels like they just didn't want to write a deeper story much further than what they already were doing with their commentary on plagiarism. I definitely understand not wanting too many things to muddle that, but it feels like it got muddled in the end anyway because of the story dragging on.

[collapse]

Update as I quickly skimmed to chapter 203 (prev read up to chapter 154) :

I think I was onto something when mentioning about how it felt like the author was dragging on the story with MC's career and such. A lot of the stuff involved with it really fluffs up the story's length; some of the stuff that happens chapters 160 onwards feels like they should've been happening a LOT sooner. The pacing is just really off in the middle.

It's an interesting read for the premise alone and I found the ML and MC's relationship interesting at first, but definitely once you hit the chapter 80, you're just wondering why the story hasn't ended yet. <<less

I think the best way to describe this story is that it's really good to cry too I'm giving it a kinda low rating because it buries a lot of the leads. It has potential to be riveting but it skips over too much info. there's a lot of give me a little bit at a time and not enough explain the idea fully or show motive for this character's actions. At this point I feel like I'm skimming so I don't think that I'm going to finish it... it's... more>> good it's just has too much I'll get back to that later... <<less

Summary had nothing to do with the story. I mean it sounds funny and all but it's more dramatic. But it still good to read. No smexy scenes sniff, just use imagination. There's a turnaround that's surprising! Author is very good to reveal it later even thought we have some clues before

Chap 43:

Im staying for the future chapters because I want to see how it progresses. But I don't find this novel being able to leave a good mark on the Re-reading pile. Sentences seem more structured along the line of how American novels write. Telling and not really showing. Translation effort ✓ but quality is a little...

... more>> Chap 74:

I'm going to leave this novel as incomplete. I got very interested because the premise is unique but I cannot console myself with the relationship between MC x ML. How did they fall in love with each other? It's like.. no link. The way they met and fell in love is unclear and that's a pity. <<less

I finished reading till chapter 109 from here and mtl-ed rest of it till chap 89. btw chap 109 here is somewhere between 50-60 in raws.

About the plot there's not much to say... it is just an okay novel. I admit I cried little bit in the beginning but later I was bored. I skipped many chapters especially from 63-73 and I don't feel like I've missed anything that important. Overall for me it was boring but I liked that the plot has (cannon fodder?) pov or the bad side... more>> of system which us quite different.

I'm still going to stop at c89 only. <<less

I really don’t like story inside story (my personal opinion). For me, this type of writing easily took away the reader focus from the main story. And when it’s focused back on the main character...I’ve lost it. Second problem for me maybe, too many character to the point I’ve forgot who is who already and their purpose in the story or are this character necessarily to the story. This two problem give me a migraine trying to understand and finish reading it. But I praise the translator wording this story,... more>> 👍 <<less

The story was quite refreshing the MC characteristic was on point, strong, cute and especially fluffy. I found the MC very intriguing. The male lead is a riot !! Frankly an amazing person. Love the ML I mean can one person be this good in reality. Enjoyed reading.

Err... I'm not really sure what I should write.. seeing the summary, the plot seems interesting. delving into the story up to 17th chap, maybe it's too early, but it seems to me all the characters were controlled somehow by something unseen.

Spoiler

spare for the "evil" little sister, who seemed to bewitch/enchant/drug/voodoo the people around her which caused them to 'lose' their minds, she's a clear villainess, in which I also somehow see her as one of those who were also controlled by that unseen thing which caused her to act Mary Sue-ish with heart and mind as black as a bottom of a pot

[collapse]

What I want to say is.. the author, at least to me, a bit failed to appeal to me, in constructing the world in a normal flow. The MC somehow falls in love so quickly, the ML is no different, and the way the fell for each other doesn't appeal to me much. The flow seemed unnatural to me which makes me see them "being forced-controlled" by something unseen. (in this case, of course it's the Author)

Maybe there will be explanation somewhere in the later chaps about this part, why they are like that.. but at least for me.. I kinda lost my appetite. <<less
